An Earlsboro man was arrested on January 29 after he allegedly cussed out Dollar General employees
when they wouldn’t jumpstart his car.
According to the affidavit, a Shawnee officer was
dispatched to the store in the 2000 block of N. Harrison shortly after 9 a.m. Dispatch advised a man
was in the parking lot yelling and cussing.
The officer made contact with the man, who identified himself as Chance Dalton Joseph French, 23.
French was holding some jumper cables and texting
someone.
Officers were advised the man had a city warrant
for trespassing.
When they told French, he took off walking. An officer grabbed the man’s arm, but he pulled away. Another officer told him to drop
the jumper cables, but the man refused, so they officer grabbed them himself.
The officer then told the man to put his hands behind his back. French refused
and kept pulling away.
Officers told him to stop resisting, but French refused to cooperate. A struggle
ensued, but police eventually placed the man in handcuffs.
French wasn’t gonna let some cuffs hold him back though! He started kicking
an officer and refused to get into the patrol car. He was finally placed in the vehicle, but when they arrived at the jail, he refused to get out of the car.
When the man finally decided to exit the vehicle so he could be booked into jail,
he still tried to pull away from the officer.
While the officer was waiting for jail staff to unlock the door, French slammed
his head into the wall. He then screamed and acted like the officer assaulted him.
French is being charged with assault and battery on police officer. His bond was
set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on March 22, 2016.

Okemah woman shows Recent Arrests For Okfuskee County up drunk to drug court
Don’t be like Melinda D. Wiley.
The 32-year-old Okemah woman was locked up
after she showed up intoxicated to a meeting with
her drug court compliance officer on January 25.
As if that wasn’t bad enough, she drove herself to
the meeting.
According to the police report, the compliance
officer called Wiley and asked her to come to the
Okemah Police Department shortly after 4 p.m.
She told him she was getting gas at a nearby convenience store and she would be there shortly.
The woman parked in front of the Okemah City
Hall in the 500 block of West Broadway Street and
walked right into the police department. She started speaking with an officer like nothing was wrong
-- but something definitely was. Right away, he noticed that she smelled strongly like alcohol. She also had an “unsteady gait” when
she walked, and her eyes were red, watery and bloodshot.
When the officer asked her what she had been drinking and how much, she replied, “None of your business.” She later admitted to drinking some vodka earlier
that day.
The officer administered sobriety tests that included the one leg stand and the
walk and turn, but Wiley didn’t pass. She was then placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI and transported to the Okfuskee County Jail.
Wiley is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence
of alcohol. Her bond was set at $2,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court
on March 3, 2016.

Holdenville man Dylan Lane Moore, 21, allegedly attacked a man with a knife after he refused
to leave the man’s home on February 11.
He was later arrested after trying to run from
police.
According to the affidavit, a Seminole officer
was dispatched to the 800 block of Roosevelt
Street at approximately 12:37 a.m. The victim
told the officer Moore had been inside his home
without permission. When he confronted the
man and told him to leave, a struggle ensued.
The victim said during the fight, Moore grabbed
a knife from the kitchen counter and acted like he
was going to stab him. He was able to hit Moore
in the face and head, forcing him to drop the knife.
When the victim’s wife called 911, Moore took off running.
Shortly after the officer left the victim’s residence, the victim called him and
said Moore had just contacted him using his daughter’s cellphone. The man
wanted to return the phone, and he asked this victim if he would meet him at a
nearby gas station.
The officer followed the victim to the store and parked out of sight until Moore
arrived. When he saw the man, he turned on his lights and drove toward the gas
station, but Moore took off running southeast toward Highland.
The officer briefly lost sight of the man. Police noticed that the gate at a residence was open and the front door was partially opened. The officer knocked on
the door and asked if Moore was home. The homeowner said yes and invited the
officers inside.
Moore was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Moore didn’t deny that he’d fought with the victim -- he did however insist
that he never grabbed a knife during the confrontation.
Moore is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and breaking
and entering with unlawful intent. His bond was set at $15,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on March 3, 2016.

Raymond Schwab, an honorably discharged veteran, moved to Colorado
last year to get treated for post-traumatic stress and chronic pain with medical
marijuana.
He didn’t expect Kansas would take
his children in return.
“They’re basically using my kids as a
pawn to take away freedoms I fought
for,” he said. “It’s a horrible position to put me in.”
He and his wife, Amelia, say Kansas took the five youngest of their six children
into custody last April, and they’ve only seen them three times since.
“I don’t think what we’re doing is illegal, immoral or wrong,” Amelia said.
The Schwabs’ case highlights how differences in marijuana laws can make a legal user in one state an unfit parent across the border.
They’re not the only Kansas parents at risk of losing their children over cannabis use. In Garden City, medical marijuana advocate Shona Banda was arrested
on child-endangerment and felony drug charges after her 11-year-old son talked
about his mother’s drug use at school.
Kansas has rejected legislative efforts to permit medical marijuana use. Colorado legalized medical marijuana, then passed a referendum that allows recreational
use as well.
Child welfare officials in Kansas did not return phone calls concerning the
Schwabs.
Raymond Schwab is a 40-year-old Gulf War veteran. He served from 1994 to
1996 in the Navy and later qualified for a 50 percent disability rating.
He lived in Colorado when the state legalized medical marijuana and obtained
his own card.
He also tried to treat his symptoms with an assortment of medicines prescribed
by the Department of Veterans Affairs — pain medicines, muscle relaxants, antianxiety drugs — but “they were making me crazy, they made me worse,” he said.
Finally he developed a heroin addiction, but said he overcame that years ago
with cannabis therapy.
The turning point in his family life began with a VA job offer in 2013. He went to
Topeka to work as a benefits agent for fellow veterans.
“I loved it. I loved my job,” he said tearfully.
But two years later, he decided to transfer to a VA job in Denver, where medical cannabis is legal. That’s when a family squabble led to the loss of five children
aged 5 to 16.
Raymond and Amelia say that as they were packing to leave, her mother took the
kids to a police station in another county and reported them abandoned, an action
her mother now regrets.
Nine months later, they say, child-protection workers and a Kansas judge are
demanding that they give up cannabis if they want their kids back.
One condition, they say, is four months of drug-free urinalysis tests, including a
drug legal in Colorado for therapeutic uses.
Raymond remains skeptical and worried. “What if I didn’t make it through four
months?” he asked. He fears his condition might worsen without cannabis.
He and his wife question why Kansas child-protection workers are holding onto
children who should not have entered their system in the first place.
Among the documents Raymond carries in a battered briefcase is the one-page
result of a Kansas child-abuse investigation.
It shows that in April 2015, the state began investigating allegations that Raymond and Amelia emotionally abused all five children. Three months later, those
allegations were dismissed as unsubstantiated.
So, “why do you still have my children?” he asked.

21-year-old Ada man Jordan Lee Warner led police on a pursuit through a trailer park and neighborhood when he spotted a deputy on January 30.
According to the affidavit, a Pontotoc County deputy was heading west on CR 1560 in Latta when he
saw a man walking out of the Panther Park Trailer
Park shortly after 11 a.m. The man was wearing a
hoodie what the hood over his head, and he had a
gray backpack on his back.
The deputy thought the man’s attire was strange
since it was warm outside. He was also suspicious
since there had been several burglaries in the area.
The deputy drove toward the man, later identified
as Warner, but the suspect took off running. The
deputy briefly lost sight of him. Residents in the park said they saw a man matching the description of the suspect running north toward a pasture.
Officers saw the man walking toward them, but he started running again when
he noticed he was on a straight path to the police. Deputies pursued Warner and
continually yelled at him to stop. He jumped a fence into the Silverleaf Housing
Addition and kept on running.
During the pursuit, an officer hit a hole, damaging his patrol vehicle.
Warner tried to hide in some bushes, but a deputy quickly spotted him. So, he
took off running again.
Officers eventually caught up the man, but a deputy had to taze him to get the
man to stop running. Warner refused to tell officers what his name was. He instead yelled, “Take me to jail already!”
In the man’s backpack, deputies found a loaded .22 cal revolver, ammunition,
loose pieces of a green leafy substance, clear baggies, a full face mask, a file that
appeared to be used to pry doors open, a bottle of alcohol, and various electronics.
On January 31, a jail employee supervised meal handout, and Warner started
complaining about the pursuit. When she asked him why he ran, he replied, “Because it’s their job to chase me.”
Warner is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance,
unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, obstructing officer, possession of
burglary tools, possession of firearm after former felony conviction and malicious
injury to property over $1,000. His bond was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on March 2, 2016.

Attorney General Scott Pruitt announced charges filed against a Claremore nurse for the neglect of an elderly
resident.
Brianna Lynn Parks-Farris, 30, of Chelsea, worked as a Certified Nurse Aide at
Autumn Wood Memory Care in Claremore. A resident of the facility was found
in the hallway, soaked in urine and with
a deep gash on her elbow. Parks-Farris
stated she checked on the resident at the
beginning of her shift, but had been overworked and unable to check on the
resident again. However, cell phone records showed Parks-Farris using the
Internet and texting during that same time period. It is alleged Parks-Farris
later admitted she never checked on the resident during her shift.
Parks-Farris is charged with one count of neglect by caretaker. If convicted,
Parks-Farris faces up to 10 years in prison and fines of $10,000.
