A Nowata man and Checotah woman were placed in jail cells after
they admitted to smoking synthetic marijuana prior to a traffic stop
on September 18.
A McCloud police officer was on patrol around 2:15 a.m. on McCloud
Road and I-40 when he saw a red minivan driving all kinds of crazy.
The van’s speed kept changing erratically, and the driver appeared to
brake suddenly for no apparent reason, according to the affidavit. The
van also kept swerving in its lane and crossed left of center multiple
times.
The officer stopped the van and made contact with the driver,
32-year-old Justin Lee Owens. The man’s speech was extremely
slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Owens appeared to
be confused when the officer asked him for his driver’s license. He
handed over a learner’s permit.
The front seat passenger was identified as 53-year-old Tammy Darleen McCaughtry. She also had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.
The officer asked Owens to step out of the vehicle. He was unsteady
on his feet. When asked if he had taken any medication, he admitted
to taking Flexoril, but said his doctor gave it to him. The officer asked
McCaughtry to exit the vehicle, and she was also unsteady on her feet.
She appeared very confused, and the officer had to keep repeating his
questions.
More officers arrived to assist. At one point, McCaughtry asked for permission to get her
cell phone out of the vehicle. He said yes, but she instead grabbed a pipe and tried to put it
in her pocket.
An officer asked Owens what was in the pipe — he said it was K2. The officer asked if he
had recently consumed K2. Owens said, “Yes sir, we smoked about two bowls a few minutes
ago after we left the McDonald’s in Shawnee.”
He also admitted to having more K2 in his pocket. An officer retrieved the substance, and
it tested positive for synthetic marijuana.
Owens is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs,
possession of a controlled dangerous substance, driving without a driver’s license and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
McCaughtry is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and
unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. They were both released on a $250 bonds and
are scheduled to appear in court on December 4, 2014.

punishment must match the
injury: ‘An eye for an eye,

I say, do not resist an evil
person! If someone slaps
you on the right cheek, offer

God’s purpose behind
this law was an expression
of mercy. The law was given
to judges and said, in effect, “Make the punishment fit the crime.” It was
not a guide for personal revenge. These laws were given to limit vengeance
and help the court administer punishment that was neither to strict nor

has been charged
Oct. 2 with
conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree in Okmulgee County District
Court.
He was also charged back in July with rape- second degree, unauthorized
use of a vehicle, contributing to the delinquency of minors, and larceny in the
night time.
According to the probable cause affidavit, in early July, a man found a cell
phone near a cemetery in Lincoln County, and when he and his wife looked
through it to find the owner, they discovered text messages between a man
and woman that appeared to be plotting a murder. The couple turned the
phone over to authorities.
After a short investigation, it was discovered that Meyer was allegedly
involved in the plot to kill his pregnant underage girlfriend’s grandmother.
The girlfriend was also allegedly involved in the plot, too.
Meyer allegedly said he and his girlfriend planned to kill the grandmother
so they could run away. He said one way they had planned to murder the
victim was to hit her. Investigators found “a large cast iron skillet” under the
girl’s bed.
Meyer was taken into custody Oct. 2 and bond was set at $50,000. His
preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 20.

A Wewoka woman was arrested
October 11 after she became angry at
her baby daddy because he wouldn’t
give her any money.
According to the affidavit, a Wewoka officer was dispatched to the
500 block of W. 10th Street around
1:23 p.m. A man said his child’s mother, 20-year-old Trinity Nicole Holata,
came to his residence and asked him
for money. When he told her he was
broke, she became angry and left — or
so he thought.
He went outside and saw Holata in
his vehicle. He approached her and
went to his vehicle to see what Holata stole. She jumped in her car
and backed up her vehicle, hitting him. About five minutes later, she
returned and threw rocks through a window on the man’s residence.
Witnesses told the officer they saw Holata hit the man with her car
and throw objects through his window.
The officer assessed the damage at the residence and attempted
to make contact with Holata. He eventually met with her in the 300
block of E. First Street. He placed her under arrest and took her to
jail.
She said the man called her to come to his house to talk about their
son. At some point, they started arguing and she became angry and
left. Holata said she got in her car, and the man pulled on the driver’s
side door mirror. He walked behind her car and when she backed up,
she “bumped into him and he fell.” She also admitted to going back
to the man’s residence and throwing rocks through his window.
Holata is being charged with domestic abuse and malicious injury
to property under $1,000. She was released on a $7,500 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on November 20, 2014.

This summer, an undercover OSBI Internet Crimes Against Children
Unit agent downloaded images containing child pornography on a
Cement man’s computer. That opened an investigation that concluded
Oct. 9 with the arrest of Ronald Chase Williams, 25.
OSBI agents and members of the state ICAC Task Force including
officers from Stillwater Police Department, Grady County Sheriff’s
Office, and the Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office served a search
warrant at Williams’ home at 2762 County Street 2760 in Cement.
A preview of computer devices inside the home revealed images
containing child pornography.
Agents arrested Williams and booked him into the Grady County jail
for distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography,
aggravated possession of child pornography (more than 100 images), and violation of the Oklahoma
Computer Crimes Act.

McCloud man Michael Steele, 23, blamed his cousin for the meth
police found in his vehicle on October 10. He was still taken to jail.
According to the police report, a Holdenville police officer was on
patrol on N. Creek around 4:45 a.m. when he saw a vehicle turn
without using a turn signal and accelerate very quickly. The officer
turned on his lights to pull the vehicle over, but the car accelerated
and ran a stop sign at N. Broadway Street and 11th.
Eventually, the vehicle came to a stop in a driveway in the 600
block of N. Oak Street. As the officer approached the vehicle, he
noticed the driver, later identified as Steele, kept moving around.
When he helped Steele exit the vehicle, he saw a black gun in the
driver’s side floorboard. He picked up the gun and discovered it was
plastic.
The officer administered standard field sobriety tests. Steele was definitely intoxicated.
The officer placed Steele in the patrol vehicle and did an inventory of the man’s car. He
found a small baggie containing a crystalline substance that field-tested positive as methamphetamine. When he asked Steele about the baggie, he said, “I don’t know. My cousin put it
in there.”
When the officer asked Steele if he would take the state’s blood test, Steel told him he can’t
deal with needles and he refused to take the test.
Steele is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and driving a
motor vehicle under the influence of drugs. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on October 28, 2014.

to do. He and his sister were raised the same, she wasn’t a criminal. She
was actually a well-liked, good kid, all around happy soul. People can be
raised by picture perfect parents and turn out to be worthless beings, and
worthless druggie parents can raise a kid horribly and the kid turn out to
be a wonderful success. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it
drink. I guess you’d have to know them to make an accurate comment.

Alan Hruby, the son of a newspaper publisher, has allegedly confessed to killing his father,
mother and sister. John Hruby, his wife Tinker
and their 17-year-old daughter Katherine were
all found dead inside their Duncan home by a
housekeeper on Oct. 13.
Last year, John Hruby turned his son in for using his grandmother’s credit card and charging
nearly $5,000 during a trip to Europe.
Alan Hruby is on probation and a freshman at
OU, but he’s now in Stephens County jail.
If Alan Hruby is found guilty of this crime, do you think the death

Joshua Franklin McCown, 34, went to jail
October 7, because he
attempted to blackmail a woman into
having sex with him.
Guess what: it
didn’t work.
What happened to
flowers, McCown?
According to the affidavit, a woman went to the sheriff’s office and told a Pontotoc
deputy that McCown was harassing her. She said she met McCown on an online dating sex, and they had sex one time. She
told him she didn’t want any contact with him after that, but he
wouldn’t take no for an answer.
For several days, McCown sent her explicit messages, demanding she have sex with him. He allegedly told her that if
she didn’t sleep with him, she would send a recording he made
of their tryst to everyone she knows. McCown added he would
send the video to her family members and post it on social media. The woman was unaware that a video had been made.
She told him she didn’t want to have sex with him, but he just
wouldn’t leave her alone. She told him to stop or she would contact the police, but he continued harassing and threatening her.
He allegedly said if she didn’t “have sex with him or suck
him,” he would post the video online for all to see.
She told him through Facebook messages to stop, but McCown became increasingly aggressive with his messages. The
woman showed officers the threatening messages he sent her.
McCown was arrested and locked up.
McCown is being charged with blackmail. His bond was set
at $50,000.

Fall is upon us, and with fall,
comes the annual increase in deer
activity and movement.
While it is true that car-deer accidents happen year round, there
is no doubt that those numbers increase dramatically in the fall
and winter months. Deer go through their mating season, called
the rut, during those months, and as winter settles over the state,
food sources become more scarce. Both of those things have deer
moving more, and when deer move, they cross roadways, making
the odds of a driver encountering them much higher.
If you’ve driven in Oklahoma for any period of time, you’ve
seen deer. You’ve seen them beside the road, running across it,
and laying dead on or near it. Car-deer accidents can be deadly
not just to the deer, but to the human occupants of the vehicles
that strike them. Since State Troopers investigate those accidents,
it makes sense that we would want to put out some tips to try and
prevent those type of accidents.
First, be conscious of the time of day you are driving. Deer
tend to move more at dawn, dusk, and nighttime hours. Since a lot
of the motoring public are going to and from work around dawn
and dusk, this is when we see most of the car-deer accidents. When
traveling at these times, make sure that you are paying attention
to not just the roadway in front of you, but the side of the road,
especially the areas between the road and the fences. If you see one
of those deer crossing signs, take heed. Those signs are put up in
areas that historically are high car-deer accident corridors.
If you are traveling in a rather open area, and there is a neck
of trees that comes up to the road, or any other type of cover, be
alert! Deer like to use cover to travel, and will use these areas to
approach roadway crossings. Be aware of your surroundings! Pay
attention to the vehicle in front of you. They may need to slow
quickly for deer, and you don’t want to rear-end them! If you do
see a deer crossing the road, or even just standing off to the side
of the roadway....reduce your speed immediately! They can be
unpredictable when spooked, and may just run right in front of
you instead of away. Use this rule of thumb: Where there is one
deer that you see, there is almost always another you don’t! Be
conscious of the ones that you may not see; just because you don’t
see them, doesn’t mean they aren’t there!
Following these steps, and being a safe and courteous driver,
even to our animal friends, will greatly reduce the chances that
you will have an unfortunate and possibly harmful encounter
with them. Lets leave the harvesting of deer to the sportsmen and

A man in Stockholm, Sweden was a bit miffed when the 13-year-old girl
he’d been courting didn’t show up for an arranged sex meeting. Having met
the girl on a dating website, this man deposited an advance payment in her
bank account before their “date”. When the teen stood him up, the man
found her home phone number and called her father to demand a refund.
You can imagine how that ended.
John Szwalla, a 17-year-old idiot from North Carolina, entered an internet cafe and demanded money, claiming he had a gun hidden under his
shirt. The “gun” was actually a banana. The cafe’s owner, along with a customer, restrained John and called the police. John ate the banana while he
waited for the cops to arrive. Apparently the police joked about charging
the kid with “destroying evidence”.
James Blankenship’s first mistake was to try to break into his own mother’s house. Young James had a go at climbing through the first floor window, then bolted when he was caught.
It didn’t help that he conducted the botched raid in broad daylight, but
let’s set that aside for a moment, because this story gets much dumber.
When police found James hiding in a crawl space near the scene and arrested him, the young man was stunned. James thought he couldn’t be arrested for burglary because it wasn’t night-time.
