A 19-year-old Earlsboro man led
police on a high-speed chase on his
motorcycle through Pottawatomie
County on August 5, all because he
didn’t have an “M” endorsement on
his driver’s license.
According to the affidavit, a Pottawatomie County deputy was traveling eastbound on I-40 when he saw a
black motorcycle approximately four
car lengths in front of him. Near mile
marker 189, he noticed that his speed
had increased to about 80 mph in a 70
mph zone in order to keep up with the
motorcycle.
He continued to accelerate until he reached 90, then 100 mph. He
attempted to pull over the motorcycle, but the driver only accelerated. The motorcycle and patrol car reached speeds of 135 mph; the
motorcycle eventually exited the interstate and proceeded toward
Highway 9A.
The speed wasn’t over, though. The motorcycle accelerated again
and reached 120 mph.
Eventually, the motorcycle pulled into a driveway. By the time the
deputy pulled into the driveway, he saw the motorcycle lying on its
side in the driveway of the residence in the 14000 block of Highway
9A. As he neared to motorcycle, he saw a man identified as Kayson
Rylee Bryce, 19, walk out from behind a tree with his hands above his
head yelling, “Don’t shoot me!”
The deputy placed Bryce in handcuffs. Bryce admitted that he had
been the operator of the motorcycle. He told the deputy he ran because he didn’t have an “M” endorsement on his driver’s license. He
also admitted that he didn’t have insurance on the motorcycle because he had not yet put it in his name.
Bryce is being charged with endangering others while attempting to elude police officer. He was released on a $5,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on September 30, 2014.

By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
All over the state, kids are either
already back in school or about to
start, so what better time to talk
about bus and school zone safety? Everyone either has a child
starting, going back to school, or knows someone who does. We all
want to look out for the welfare of our young students, so I’ll touch
on a few items to refresh your memories about school zones and
school buses.
First, lets talk about school bus safety. One of the violations I
see most is drivers going the opposite direction not stopping for
a school bus that has its red flashers and stop sign out. I can
only assume that these drivers believe that those stop indicators
are only for the vehicles following the school bus, but this is not
true. Oklahoma State Statute Title 47-11-705 states:
The driver of a vehicle meeting or overtaking a school bus that is
stopped to take on or discharge school children, and on which the
red loading signals are in operation, is to stop the vehicle before
it reaches the school bus and not proceed until the loading signals
are deactivated and then proceed past such school bus at a speed
which is reasonable and with due caution for the safety of such
school children and other occupants.
An exception to this would be on a divided roadway where there
is a separation of the lanes of travel, such as a divided four-lane
highway. The drivers on the opposite side of the road do not have
to stop in this situation, but the drivers on the same side must stop
as stated. Again, this is only for highways that are divided by a
median, cable barrier, concrete barrier, etc. This is not applicable
for an undivided multi-lane highway. On that occasion, all traffic
must obey the bus loading signals.
Next, lets tackle the school zones. All a school zone does is reduce
the speed limit at certain times of the day. These times are when
there is a presence or potential presence of school children. What
this means is, just because you don’t see children out on the
playground, or outside the school building, does not mean the
school zone is not in effect, because the potential presence of
children is taken into account. The way a driver is notified of an
active school zone is with the flashing yellow lights attached to the
appropriate warning signs for the school zone. If a driver is cited
in a school zone, the fine doubles.
As safe and courteous drivers, we should always be looking out
for each other on the roadways, and a potential fine shouldn’t be
our motivation, but the safety of others as well as ourselves, and
especially for our youngsters. Remember, their safety is in your
hands; lets do our part to make this a safe and sound school
year. Thanks for reading, buckle up and please drive safe!

unsolved cases
On June 17, 2007, 73-year-old Rosemary Wolfe was found shot
to death inside her Langley home by her husband. The Medical
Examiner’s Offi ce ruled she died of several gunshot wounds.
The Mayes County Sheriff ’s Offi ce requested OSBI help investigate
the death. Since then, agents have conducted numerous interviews
and collected evidence in the case.
Investigators believe they know what happened to Ms.
Wolfe. However, they need a few more pieces of evidence/
information in order to resolve the case. OSBI hopes someone with that information will come
forward to help solve the case and allow her family some peace. Since her death happened on
Father’s Day – that day is an especially diffi cult one.
Wolfe’s family is off ering up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of
the person responsible for her death.
If anyone has any information on this case, please call the OSBI hotline at 1-800-522-8017.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Recent Arrests For Okfuskee County
Kevin Sweat, who was accused of murdering two
young girls along a country road back in 2008, but who
was not arrested until after being questioned in the
death of his fiancée nearly three years later, ended up
pleading guilty in both cases. He entered guilty pleas
to all three counts of first-degree murder in Okfuskee
County District Court.
Prosecutors decided not to pursue the death penalty
after Sweat allegedly agreed to surrender his right to a
jury trial.
The two girls, Skyla Whitaker, age 11 and Taylor Paschal-Placker, age 13, were both fatally shot as they each
walked down a rural road near Weleetka.
Sweat was not a suspect in either of their deaths until
police began to question him in the 2011 killing of his
fiancée, Ashley Taylor, age 23. Prosecutors stated that
Sweat told a detective in a videotaped interview that he had shot the two girls because
he believed they were “monsters” coming toward him.
The cases were eventually connected after police investigating her death discovered
shell casings also on the father’s property that had markings which matched those
found at the murder scene of the two girls’ back in 2008.
Sentencing should be held in about 45 days.

At approximately 9:30 on August 6, Blanchard police
received a 911 call regarding a shooting at Gators convenience
store at 1235 N.E. 10th, Blanchard. Officers found Gaye Keeler,
57, dead inside from a gunshot wound. Reports state her dog
was also found shot to death.
Gaye and her husband, Larry, owned the store. Employees
identified Larry Keeler as the shooter. Larry left the store after
the shooting.
Blanchard officers drove to Larry’s home at 3094 Misty Lane
and detained him for questioning. He was later arrested on a
complaint of first degree murder and booked in to the McClain
County jail; bond was denied.
The couple was going through a divorce. Blanchard PD
requested OSBI assistance. Numerous investigative and crime scene agents responded.

There’s bound to be trouble where there’s a woman in
a pink dress and high heels walking beside an empty electric wheelchair in the middle of the night.
A Seminole police officer saw the peculiar sight on August 14 around 12 a.m. while patrolling Timmons Avenue,
according to the affidavit. He stopped his vehicle and
made contact with the woman, Teresa Jean Hausle, 52.
He asked the Seminole woman where she was coming
from, and where she was going to.
She said she was coming from a friend’s was and was
walking home, which was around the corner.
As the officer spoke with Hausle, he noticed that she
couldn’t stand still and had a “jittery demeanor about her
person.” He asked her if she took any prescription medication. She said yes, but she didn’t have any with her. He
then asked if she had any illegal drugs. She informed the officer that she didn’t do drugs, and
she was acting jittery because of the inhaler she used for her breathing.
Not convinced, the officer asked Hausle when she last used methamphetamine. She told
him she didn’t use meth.
The officer then inquired if she had anything illegal in her bag that was on the electric wheel
chair. She said no. When he asked If he could search the bag, she replied, “Yeah, you can
search, but I don’t have anything in my bag.”
The officer told her that is she just had some paraphernalia in the bag, he could write her a
ticket. She said she didn’t have anything, but when the officer picked up the bag, she told him
she was a diabetic and she had some syringes and an insulin pen.
The officer found four syringes, a plastic baggie with a white crystal substance and a metal
spoon with residue.
After taking the wheel chair to Hausle’s residence, the officer transported her to jail.
Hausle is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful
possession of drug paraphernalia. Her bond was set at $1,500, and she is scheduled to appear
in court on September 4, 2014.

Prowlin’ Shannon Nicole Nunes, 32, found herself in handcuffs and in the back of a cop car after police caught her lurking in a backyard with some illicit items.
According to the affidavit, Holdenville police officers were
dispatched to the 200 block of Trevyn at approximately 12:35
a.m. on August 11 in reference to a prowler in the backyard.
When officers arrived, they made contact with the woman,
identified as Nunes. They asked her what she was doing there,
and the Holdenville woman told them she was waiting on the
woman who lived there. She said she was worried because the
woman was supposed to pick her up at her home.
Officers made contact with the said woman, and when she
saw Nunes, she said, “What the hell are you doing here? You
need to leave.”
The woman said Nunes owed her money, but had paid her and she just wanted Nunes
to leave. An officer told Nunes to walk to the front of the patrol car; he asked her if she had
anything illegal on her. She said no, and the officer asked her to turn her pockets inside out
and place her purse on the hood of the vehicle.
After placing Nunes in the patrol car, the officer went back to the spot in the where she had
been sitting near the front door. There he saw a black sock with a Diet Coke can and a case
at the base of a shrub. Inside the case, the officer found a scale with a crystalline substance
on it.
He transported Nunes to jail. The scale tested positive for methamphetamine.
The officer took a second look at the Diet Coke can, and discovered that the top of the can
had been cut off. Inside the can, he found a large bag of a crystalline substance, two small
bags of a crystalline substance and a small bag of a green leafy substance. The substances
field-tested positive for meth and marijuana.
During booking, Nunes told police the stuff was not hers, and she had been at the house to
check on the women because she didn’t show up to pick her up.
Nunes is being charged with trafficking in illegal drugs, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on a
$20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 2, 2014.

A Phoenix man attempted to rob two large businesses, first an Ace Hardware and then a Safeway. He put his hand under his shirt to look like a
gun, but the cashier was not fooled and calmly said “no” to his request for
money. Equally unsuccessful was his attempt to rob a Safeway, which resulted in him being escorted out of the building. According to Phoenix New
Times, he waited a few minutes before returning into the store to snag a
small breakfast sausage and was therefore charged with shoplifting. I guess
all that failing worked up an appetite.
A man in Riverfront was busted for buying some heroin and a prostitute
for the night. Doesn’t sound that unusual, right? He used money he had
stolen from his 4 year old nephew’s piggy bank. According to River front
Times, the man was staying with his sister and asked if he could borrow
some of her son’s money. She told him he could have two dollars, but he
took all $500. I’m thinking next Thanksgiving dinner could be tense.
In Seattle, a young man and woman attempted to steal six beers from a
gas station. Malt-liquor (what?) beers, to be exact. The male accomplished
this by hitting the store clerk over the head with a ukulele, breaking the
instrument and cutting the victims scalp. According to Seattle Weekly, the
suspects had fled by the time the police arrived on the scene. Silently, unfortunately.

What you’re saying about this on...
Brian G: Legalize steroids, same amount of deaths as weed and steroids won’t make
you sound like a half asleep pothead
Toni L: Brian maybe you need to do some research steroids do hurt and kill people.
They have very dangerous side effects unlike weed.
Brandi W: I think it really wouldn’t matter which drugs are legalized or not, people
will find a way to abuse, take, sell, make or even trade drugs if they want to! I for one don’t
think I’m in charge of anybody else’s actions or wants.. I say to each their own just don’t
bring others down for your own actions! Be responsible..
Becky P: they use to use it for medical reasons in the old days...legalize it and get the
tax from it...steroids will kill you eventually...go after the meth heads
Brandon H: Legalize bud it never hurt a soul
Jon W: Legalize weed
Sha’Meka M: Steroids can kill you n make you do things ... Legalize Mary Jane..
She’s cool ppl
Gary H: Maybe synthetic weed. Steroids claimed a whole family in Chris Benoit’s
case. If you don’t mind disappearing testicles and the end to your sex life, enjoy......
Andrea G: They gotta get to Rehab, But they say No No No!
Mike B: Tighten control of Prescription drugs . They cause more problems.
Jason H: Free the weed. !!! Unburden the prison industrial complex
Tamara T: Concentrate on where the drugs are coming from. I know in Garvin Co
a lot of the same people that were dealing 18 years ago when I was in high school are still
the main dealers around. Quit making deals with them.
Mallori D: Marijuana should be legalized. Others drugs like cocaine or meth should
not be. I don’t agree with throwing these people in jail and them serving time longer than
people who have killed/rape. These people should be given help. There a lot of people who
use marijuana and don’t go out and kill, rob or lose their job because of it. It’s time the baby
boomers start letting my generation make these choices. It will happen eventually.
Renee M: You get more time for marijuana than drunk driving or being a cook or
tweek. A little backwards. Oh yeah and all because they thought they could win the war on
drugs. Which will never happen..
Alissa W: I have Fibromyalgia. We have very low options to control our pain. It just
so happens marijuana does great things for our pain, and coming off of it is a lot easier
than coming off of narcotics where it all of a sudden wears off and you are in more pain
than before. I think medical marijuana would do great things in our state. Also I think that
if you are a first time offender of drugs and alcohol you should go to involuntary rehab. If
you have kids you shouldn’t get “special treatment” by no means. I believe narcotics and
meth and heroine are more of an issue than pot. Narcotics cause more harm to yourself
and others.
Merrenda L: Colorado is a debt free state and has been. No one has broke out and
caused riots and crime has actually went down. When it comes to pot, make it legal and
follow colorado. Get our state debt free and tax the hell out of it. Use the money for schools
and roads.
Molly E: There is a definite drug problem in Oklahoma, but I believe incarceration
is not the only solution. Jail time will punish drug users/abusers, but it will NOT address
the underlying problem. As soon as they are released, they will go right back to using. We
need to invest more in rehabilitation than punishment. Addiction should be treated as an
illness, not a crime. These people are mothers, fathers, siblings, friends. They’re not monsters because they lost control. They just need help.
David T: Legalize marijuana it hasn’t killed anybody unlike prescription drugs,
meth, alcohol, or any other man made drugs. They need to be more strict on these meth
heads and drunks who take ppls lives on a daily basis instead of a slap on the wrist and send
them on their way. I’ve had to many family members and friends killed by a drunk driver
or somebody under the influence of meth
Lisa H: There are many benefits to making pot legal. Not only for medicinal issues,
but tax dollars added in to our economy as well. No, the judicial system has been messed
up for years. People caught with pot get more time than kiddy rapists! No one comes out of
the womb saying they want to become an addict. Meth has destroyed millions of lives. But
until we as a society, can accept the fact that some people are simply broken and looking
for a way to relieve their pain, drugs, alcohol, etc. will be abused. Send the first timers to
drug rehab. After that, jail time.
Jason S: Alcohol is already legal, now pot should be. Ive seen more problems though
through presciption drugs by far.
Maria E: Well unfair if the pot heads can have mary jane give the dope heads cocain
and ice ... get my point not fair to give some what they want and not others what they want..
if you legalize one legalize all. I’m against any including pain meds because ameicans have
learned to say there back hurts get oxy and instead of fixing the “problem” they claim to
have they keep popping there pills or better yet sell to the pill poppers and buy there weed,
meth ect..
Joel R: the biggest problem i see is corruption in the police and sheriff”s departments/offices.
Dillen G: I’d say the problem isn’t the drugs. Now bear with me, I don’t condone the
use or cultivation of any drug. The PROBLEM, however, is these gun toting punk kids and
the wars they wage for the people who supply them. Did you know on the black market,
the “product” that flows the most, is laundry detergent. Something completely legal is being sold in underground markets just like these drugs. Why? Because the drugs aren’t the
problem, but they are contributing factors nonetheless. Legalizing won’t get rid of these
organizations underground. It may dampen them, and make it harder for them to make
money, but it won’t stop them. When you get down to brass tax, it’s lazy people trying to
make a paycheck. These “gangsters” are pawns for individuals who go unnoticed or unfound because of the loyalty these pawns have for them. They just reel in the cash.
Chuck C: Alcohol does need attention but again it’s effects are scientifically measurable and marijuana doesn’t since it has different levels THC but I’m sure that will change.
Preston S: That whole question as to whether they should be more lenient on women
than men, is just simple minded. An “abuser” is just that, an “abuser.” Whoever runs this
page, should probably have their questions examined by a panel of people before posting.
Okjailbirds: Preston S: It is Senate Bill 1278, so I guess the question was examined before we posted. Men are left out of this bill. http://www.oksenate.gov/.../press.../
pr20140312a.htm
Tucker W: Too many prescription drugs. Every time I go to a doctor they want to
fix it with a pill. What happened to curing something rather than masking the pain?????
Jesse C: As simple as we would like to make the solution to our state’s drug issues
sound, they are extremely complicated. No simple one liner answer will work. Drugs are
a temporary answer to a long term problem. Until we as a society decide to face the issues
instead of escape, we will have a drug issue, legal or illegal.
Here’s a question for you...
How do think the current drug problem in Oklahoma should be solved?
Things to ponder:
• Is there a drug problem at all?
• Do drugs need to be legalized? Which drugs?
• Do all drug abusers need to go to jail? What about recreational drug users?
• Do drug abusers/users need help instead of jail time? What about those who
don’t want help?
• Should judges be more lenient with women
and harsher on men? What about those who
have children (women and men)?
• Do you think our system is fair and just? If
not, what seems to be the problem?

An Ada man was carted off to the pen after he stupidly flipped officers the bird.
According to the affidavit, several Pontotoc County deputies were at a local convenience store discussing a case one of them
was working on August 17. The case was
about Roy Lee Scott, 49, who had feloniously pointed a firearm at subjects.
Well, wouldn’t you know it, but about that
time, Scott pulled up to a stop sign, stuck his
arm out the window and flipped off the officers.
Bad mistake, Scott!
The deputies jumped in their patrol cars and pursued Scott. The
chase reached speeds ranging from 90 to 100 mph. Several vehicles
had to swerve to the shoulder to avoid being hit.
Roy was also waving a knife out his window during the pursuit.
The speeding vehicle reached Seminole County, and the chase continued. Eventually, an officer was able to “spin out” Scott and bring
him to a stop in the grass in the 4000 block of Highway 377.
Deputies gave Scott several commands to exit his vehicle before he
finally threw the knife out his window and climbed out the window.
Scott was placed under arrest and, no surprise, failed a standard
field sobriety test. He agreed to take the state’s test, but on the way
to the hospital, he changed his mind. He allegedly told officers that
there was no need for the testing because he was going to test positive for meth.
Scott is being charged with endangering others while attempting
to elude police officer and driving a motor vehicle while under the
influence of drugs. Bond was unknown at time of print, but he is
scheduled to appear in court on August 18, 2014.
