A Shawnee woman was arrested July 29 for allegedly writing checks to herself out of her grandpa’s checkbook.
She should’ve learned to forge his signature better, because it was obvious he didn’t write them!
According to the police report, a Shawnee officer took a police report on July 23 from the victim.
He said his granddaughter, 32-year-old Lacey Nicole Sanders, had forged his signature on a couple
of checks and cashed them at a nearby bank. He
showed police proof that the signatures on the
checks Sanders cashed didn’t match his. Both of
the checks were made out to Sanders.
On July 27, the victim told another officer Sanders had been staying with him
for about 10 days, and she didn’t have permission to write the checks, nor did he
give her access to his checkbook.
An officer arrested Sanders on July 29. She agreed to speak about the check
writing allegations. Sanders admitted to writing the checks to herself and cashing
them at the bank. She told the officer she knew she didn’t have permission to do
so. It wasn’t her fault, though -- she said her dad made her do it.
In fact, Sanders told the officer that her dad held her at gunpoint while she
wrote the $175 and $423 checks.
Sanders is being charged with two counts of uttering a forged instrument and
knowingly concealing stolen property. Her bond was set at $5,000, and she is
scheduled to appear in court on September 8, 2015.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
There is a saying that all good things must
come to an end. I would like to think that my
monthly Tips From a Trooper articles have
been a good thing, and hopefully put some good
information out there. Alas, this will be my final
installment of Tips. A new chapter has opened
up in my career as an Oklahoma State Trooper,
and I will be taking on a new assignment. It took a lot of thought and prayer to
come to the decision to take on my new assignment, and I thought that process
was worthy of some consideration in this final Tips.
When this opportunity presented itself, obviously it was something that could
not be decided spur of the moment. Usually, when faced with new opportunities,
we can experience either apprehension or excitement initially. Decisions
shouldn’t be made in either of these conditions. A good piece of advice that I
received a long time ago is to sleep on it. If you have time, and we usually do,
take that time, and see how you feel about the issue 24 hours later. If you still feel
excited, or apprehensive, then those feelings should be further explored!
A great thing to do when you have a tough decision to make is the old pros and
cons list. This tool is invaluable, and was for me in my decision! Gather as much
information as you can to help you in making this list. If you have one side of the
ledger that is overwhelmingly longer than the other, then you should seriously
consider what that means, and perhaps decide accordingly!
Talk to your family! Many decisions not only affect you, but your family as
well, so you should get their take on it. Be sure and run down those pros and cons
as they may be able to add to the list. It is important to have your family involved
in those big decisions, as they will be supporting you whichever way you decide.
Last but not least, pray. I don’t intend this to be a religious stance, but it is part
of who I am, and prayer helped me immensely in this decision. Whatever your
belief system is, seek guidance through prayer.
After going through this process, I decided to accept an assignment in the
Office of Professional Standards within the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Taking
this assignment was made much easier knowing that Troop K and Payne County
would be in good hands with the current Command Staff in Troop K. Thankfully,
no move is required, so my family and I will continue to be part of this great
community! I would like to thank each and every one of the people I have worked
with, both OHP and other agencies. I would also like to thank everyone who
came up and said they enjoyed my articles, you don’t know how much that meant
to me!

THOMAS
Tulsa man Dion Shermaine Thomas, 37, was arrested in
Hughes County for allegedly stealing a bunch of stuff from a
Dustin residence.
According to the police report, a Hughes County deputy was
dispatched to the 100 block of South Bond on July 27 to investigate a burglary. A man told the officer he came to check
on the residence due to recent burglaries that had occurred in
the area.
When he arrived, he noticed a window at the residence had
been smashed out. There was no one in the residence, but it
was obvious someone who wasn’t supposed to be there had
definitely been there. Stuff was everywhere and belongings
were scattered throughout the house. The suspect had left
two water bottles in the residence. He also had apparently deployed a small fire extinguisher and threw it in the front yard.
The victim made an inventory of what items were missing.
On August 1, police arrested Thomas for a warrant for another crime he allegedly committed in Hughes County. While at the residence, one of the deputies noticed some stuff hanging
on the wall that matched some items that had been reported stolen.
When asked, Thomas said he bought the items from a man for $40, and he didn’t know
they were stolen.
The man also happened to be in jail – he told police he never sold Thomas anything and he
didn’t know what the man was talking about.
Police obtained a search warrant and went back to Thomas’s house. The owner of the home
told police she saw Thomas bringing things home and when she asked if they were stolen, he
told her no.
Officers found many of the stolen items including golf clubs, purses, sports memorabilia,
and some other interesting stuff, including a metal pipe, pipes with residue, a set of digital
scales and rolling papers.
Thomas is being charged with knowingly concealing stolen property, possession of controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released
on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 8, 2015.

Recent Arrests For Okfuskee County
Weleetka man Jason Cole Payne, 32, allegedly
set his mom’s house on fire, called the cops, and
then got mad when they arrived to help.
According to the police report, dispatch advised an Okfuskee County deputy on August 15
that a man called and said he was going to burn
his house down. He later told dispatch his house
was on fire before hanging up.
The deputy went to the residence and found
Payne sitting outside with some paramedics --
the house was smoking on the inside. When the
deputy walked up to Payne, the man told him, “F--- you. Get off my property. We
don’t need you here.”
The deputy reminded Payne that he was the one who had called the cops. Payne
didn’t care. He said, “Get off my f------ property now.”
The deputy tried to placed the man in handcuffs for his safety, but Payne refused to give him his hands. When he tried to grab the deputy, the deputy ordered him to the ground with his taser. That worked!
Once Payne was in handcuffs, he told the deputy he wasn’t talking to him and
to just take his ass to jail where it belongs.
Payne’s mother arrived at the residence and told the deputy the house belonged
to her and her son was paying rent to stay there. She said she had received a call
from Payne that her house was on fire.
Payne tried to run away a few times during the investigation, but he never got
far. He was eventually transported to jail and locked up.
Payne is being charged with second-degree arson and resisting an officer. His
bond was set at $15,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September
10, 2015.

Shawnee man Doyle Gaylord Brooking,
69, caused quite the excitement at a Wewoka bar when he allegedly pointed a gun
at another man on August 5. His recklessness with a firearm was repaid by a blast of
pepper spray to the face.
According to the police report, a Seminole County deputy was dispatched to the
bar on Highway 270 shortly after 6 p.m. to investigate. On
his way to the waterin’ hole where the incident took place,
the deputy was advised a man had left the bar on a dark blue
3-wheeled motorcycle headed to Seminole.
As luck would have it, the deputy happened to noticed
that a 3-wheeled motorcycle passed him heading west. He
stopped the vehicle, but as he pulled in behind the bike, he
saw the driver grab a gun and set it down beside him.
The deputy yelled at the man, identified as Brooking, to
put up his hands, but Brooking refused. He started to reach
toward his gun, and the deputy knew he had to act fast. He
deployed his pepper gun, blasting Brooking in the face and
head with pepper spray.
Brooking grabbed his face instead of the gun -- the deputy
had won.
He placed the man under arrest and secured the weapon.
There was one round in the gun.
Brooking is being charged with assault with a deadly
weapon, transporting loaded firearm in motor vehicle and
carrying weapon where alcohol is served. He was released
on a $17,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
September 3, 2015.

the car with a woman who was calling her brother or husband trying to get directions and
I had to sit there and pray that we wouldn’t crash into something! So yea, I’m very happy
to see this law go into effect!

Ada man Joshua Evan Watson, 29, should have just
let his ex-girlfriend walk out the door. Instead, he allegedly threatened her with a weapon and wound up arrested for some marijuana.
On August 10, an Ada officer was dispatched to the
700 block of West 24th Street at approximately 7:51 p.m.
to investigate a disturbance. According to the police report, the caller said she had been assaulted by her exboyfriend and he was threatening her with a machete.
When the officer arrived, he saw a man standing in the
front room of the house with his back to the door. He
told the man, later identified as Watson, to walk outside.
Watson showed the officer his hands and said, “I don’t
have a weapon.”
Once Watson was outside, the officer went inside the home to speak to the victim.
The woman said she and Watson had been living together at the residence, but they
had recently broken up and she was there to get her stuff.
As she was packing up, she said Watson yelled at her and pushed her. When she
told him she was going to call the police, the victim said Watson grabbed a machete
off the top of the refrigerator. He pulled the sheath off of it and threw it to the floor.
He then held it to her neck and told her to get out of his apartment.
The victim was able to call the police. She said Watson put the weapon back on
top of the fridge, but he grabbed a marijuana pipe and placed it with her belongings.
The officer saw the machete on top of the refrigerator and the sheath on the floor,
just like the victim told him. The victim handed him a glass pipe with residue that
smelled like marijuana.
The officer placed Watson under arrest and transported him to jail.
Watson is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and
possession of controlled substance within 1,000 feet of school or park. He was released on a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 2, 2015.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
