Claremore Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison for
Drug, Firearms, and Obstruction of Justice Offenses
A Claremore man was sentenced in U.S.
District Court for maintaining a drug-involved
premises, being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, and obstruction of justice by using the threat of physical force against
a witness.
U.S. District Judge Gregory K. Frizzell sentenced James Kent Patrick Hill, 58, to 25 years
in prison to be followed by three years of supervised release.
Hill previously pleaded guilty to the charges
on March 12, 2019. During the plea hearing,
he admitted to maintaining his Claremore residence for the purpose of using controlled substances such as methamphetamine, marijuana, alprazolam and diazepam. Hill further admitted to
being a felon in possession of 10 firearms, including shotguns, rifles and
pistols and more than 1,000 rounds of associated ammunition. Hill also
stated that after he was arrested on Sept. 20, 2018, he threatened the
use of force against Corporal John Haning, of the Rogers County Sheriff’s
Office, when he reached for and nearly unholstered the Corporal’s firearm
while being transported to the Rogers County Jail. By grabbing Haning’s
firearm, Hill intended to influence, delay, and prevent the testimony of Haning and others in official proceedings.
“James Hill will have 25 years to reflect on his crimes while he serves
his sentence in prison,” said U.S. Attorney Shores. “My team is focused
on making northeastern Oklahoma neighborhoods safer by targeting drug
and gun related crimes through Project Safe Neighborhoods. James Hill
made a bad situation worse when he attempted to grab the service weapon of the deputy who had arrested him. Assaults on law enforcement officers and agents will be prosecuted by my office. If there is jurisdiction over
the assault, then criminals should expect to meet a federal prosecutor.
There is no better partner than the ATF to help us investigate these types
of cases. I’m thankful the Rogers County Deputy in this case did not suffer
serious injury or worse.”
Hill was remanded into the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service while
awaiting state charges.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Verdigris Police Department and Rogers County Sheriff’s Office are the investigative agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Morgan prosecuted the
case.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

A 39-year-old Jay man was placed under
arrest after he allegedly broke into a home,
berated a woman for cleaning, and then destroyed some items in the house on June 10.
The police report states that a Jay officer
was advised that Richard Anthony Overstreet
had broken into a home in the 200 block of N.
Third Street. A woman at the residence said
she was inside cleaning when she heard a
loud noise. She turned around and saw Overstreet standing behind her. The woman said
he walked toward her and started yelling. He
told her, “You cleaned the house!”
He then started tearing up the house as he
walked toward the front door, breaking stuff
in the living room, kitchen and a bedroom.
When he walked out the front door, the woman ran and closed the door behind him.
Overstreet wasn’t done, however. He kicked the door back open, grabbed
a large plant in the living room and slammed it to the floor.
The woman fled the residence and headed toward a neighbor’s house to
call the police.
Overstreet followed her and said she’d better not call the authorities or tell
them anything that happened.
A man who lived at the residence said he was gone when the burglary occurred, but he came home to find the front door kicked open and the house
in disarray.
Officers found the suspect at the local baseball field. He admitted to going inside the residence without permission. His explanation? His ex-girlfriend
lives there, and some of his belongings were in the house. He wanted them
back. He denied, however, breaking things inside the home.
Overstreet is being charged with burglary in the first degree. His bond was
set at $7,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 5, 2019.

A South Carolina man was caught rubbing buttered toast all over his neighbor’s SUV
window. Seems like a foolproof plan, how did he get caught? According to MSN, He
just dropped the toast a few feet away from the car and made his departure, causing
a nearby woman to notice and call the police. The police charged the now hungry man
with “malicious damage to property” and estimated the cost of damage to be about $1.
What’s the hottest you’ve ever been? Temperature-wise of course, because if it was
in physical terms, we all know we were the hottest at our 5th grade, bowl-cut, chubs
stage. But really, to what extent would you go to cool off?
Hopefully not so far you’d get arrested, but this is exactly what a group of four young
men in Germany did. On a hot day, they decided to make their own pool in a car.
In a BMW no less. A policeman noticed a very strange convertible driving down the
road. Upon closer viewing, it appeared that the bathing-suit clad men were splashing
around in the water-filled car, clearly intoxicated. Though there was no law against driving around with a pool in someone’s car, they were probably charged for driving without
a permit. Talk about hot water.
What do you guys think about sausage? I suppose it’s better than a hot dog, which
in turn is better than bologna (which is basically giant hot dog slices?). And no matter
what, it has to be better than Lunchables *shudder*.
No matter your opinion, sausage was a huge disappointment for this Phoenix man.
He attempted to rob two large businesses, first an Ace Hardware and then a Safeway.
He put his hand under his shirt to look like a gun, but the cashier was not fooled and
calmly said “no” to his request for money. Equally unsuccessful was his attempt to rob
a Safeway, which resulted in him being escorted out of the building. He waited a few
minutes before returning into the store to snag a small breakfast sausage and was
therefore charged with shoplifting. I guess all that failing worked up an appetite.
Sometimes people don’t want their babies. Throughout history, these people have
found convenient ways to get rid of them. In the middle ages, a popular solution was
to leave a swaddled infant on the doorstep of a misfortunate new parent. Worse for the
child, another option was an orphanage. In later times, parents could even put their kid
in the circus for life. The last one, I’m actually jealous of.
It might not have been this Florida woman’s goal to give away her child, but that’s
sure what it looked like. She had gone shopping at Dillard’s, and tried to shoplift $260
worth of clothing using her baby stroller. When a police officer followed her out to her
car, she flipped out and eventually threw her baby in its little carseat at him. The baby
was not injured. The shoplifter received three charges, including “resisting a police officer without violence”. Um. What would be violent, throwing her entire family?

modes of transportation
A 32-year-old Grove man was arrested on June 10
after he allegedly led law enforcement on a pursuit that
involved two stolen trucks and a stolen UTV.
According to the affidavit, an Ottawa County deputy
was dispatched to a residence in rural Wyandotte to
investigate a stolen John Deer Gator. When the victim
confronted the thief, the man lifted up his shirt and put
his hand on a gun. The victim ran back inside his home,
and the suspect rode away on the UTV.
While investigating the incident, the deputy was advised that a truck reported stolen the day before had
been located in a nearby ditch. The person suspected
in stealing the vehicle was Francisco Espinoza, a man
who also had several felony warrants.
A short time later, some employees at a local business advised police that a man there was acting like he
was on drugs. Officers showed them a picture of Espinoza. They positively identified
him as the troublemaker. The officers were advised that the man had fled the scene
in a Chevy pickup.
A deputy located the vehicle traveling southbound on S. 685 Road at a high rate
of speed. Several officers joined in on the pursuit. At one point, a deputy stopped his
car to conduct a roadblock. He watched as Espinoza swerved back and forth in the
lane. Espinoza headed straight for the patrol car. The deputy backed up his vehicle,
narrowly avoiding being struck by the truck.
Espinoza also fired his gun at officers during the pursuit.
The chase came to an end when a deputy conducted a tactical maneuver, causing
the truck to spin out. Espinoza tried to escape on foot, but he was quickly apprehended and after a brief struggle, placed in handcuffs. He advised police he had taken
a large amount of meth.
While searching his person, they found a bag containing methamphetamine. In the
vehicle, officers found a used syringe and a 9mm gun.
During the investigation, they learned that the vehicle Espinoza was driving had
been reported stolen out of Missouri.
Espinoza is being charged with shooting with intent to kill, unauthorized use of a vehicle, assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of firearm and resisting arrest, all
after former conviction of a felony. His bond was set at $262,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on January 23, 2019.

Man allegedly hiding drugs in butt accidentally shoots himself in testicles
A bungling felon from Washington state
made a series of blunders when he shot
himself in the testicles and tried to hide the
weapon — all while storing drugs in his anus,
according to a report.
Cameron Jeffrey Wilson, 27, was carrying a pistol in his front pocket while in his
Cashmere, Wash., apartment on April 5
when the firearm accidentally discharged and
pierced his groin and thigh, according to the
Wenatchee World News.
Wilson, who is a 13-time convicted felon,
told his girlfriend to dispose of the weapon
before heading to the hospital, the paper said.
When the ex-con finally went to the hospital, a balloon of marijuana slipped out of his anus while a doctor was operating on the gunshot wound, court records show.
Cops also arrived at the hospital when alerted of the gunshot wound and
searched Wilson’s car where they discovered a bag of meth in the bloodstained jeans he was wearing when he shot himself.
The officers issued an arrest warrant for Wilson and he turned himself in to
police on April 18.
As he was being processed at the Chelan County Regional Justice Center,
Wilson was strip-searched and another balloon of marijuana slipped from his
anus, the paper said.
While in jail, Wilson made a number of calls to his girlfriend and asked her
not to cooperate with investigators working on his case. Authorities were listening in on the calls.
The convicted felon was charged with possession of a firearm, unlawful
possession of meth, possession of a controlled substance in a correctional
facility, and four counts of tampering with a witness.
Wilson was being held on $110,000 bail and is due in court on June 18.
