BARROOM BLITZ
A Big Cabin man was arrested for allegedly
threatening to shoot up a Chelsea bar on the
afternoon of October 8.
According to the police report, Rogers
County deputies were dispatched to a bar
in the 4700 block of S. 4290 Road to investigate a threat made by 47-year-old Wesley
Orlo Burkhead. Bar patrons told police that
Burkhead entered the establishment and announced that he was going to return with a
shotgun and kill everyone who was inside.
While speaking to witnesses, deputies were
advised the man had traveled to another bar
about a mile down the road. When officers arrived at the scene, they saw a man standing
inside the driver’s side door of a truck that matched the description of Burkhead’s vehicle. The man appeared to be reaching for something under the
driver’s seat. They called out to the man, and when he turned around, officers
noticed he had a pistol tucked into his waistband.
An officer called out the name Wesley, but the man informed them he wasn’t
Burkhead – he said he was removing the gun from Burkhead’s truck because
he didn’t want the Burkhead to get into trouble.
Burkhead told police that the truck and firearm belonged to him. He was
placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Burkhead is being charged with possession of firearm after former felony conviction and threaten to perform act of violence. His bond was set at
$300,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on December 11, 2017.

UNSOLVED CASES:
CARINA SAUNDERS
OSBI reinstated a reward on
October 13, which was the six
year anniversary since remains
of Carina Saunders, 19, were
discovered behind a Bethany grocery store. The Bethany Police Department worked
the case for more than a year
before requesting OSBI investigative assistance. For several years now, OSBI has interviewed dozens of people who
claimed to have information,
served search warrants on locations believed to be involved
in the murder, and dug at several sites searching for evidence. As of yet, that
work has not produced enough evidence to make an arrest. Saunders’ case
is highlighted in the OSBI Cold Case Playing Cards distributed to Department
of Corrections facilities, hoping someone behind bars can provide useful information. OSBI is offering up to a $10,000 reward to the person(s) who provides information that helps substantially progress the case. By state law, that
reward is active for 90 days. Please call 1-800-522-8017 with information or
email a tip to [email protected].

A man wanting to stay sober volunteered to serve part of his friend’s one-month
drunk-driving sentence. The 51-year-old Swede wanted to see if he could pose as
his friend and fool the justice system, but he was discovered two weeks into the
sentence. The man said, “I wanted to go to jail to stop myself from drinking for a few
weeks. My pal didn’t think it would work. He agreed to let me try. I borrowed his ID
card and identified myself as him at the prison.” He has since been charged with perjury and wrongful use of another person’s identity.
A Golden Gate Estates man couldn’t fool anybody when he tried to get his vehicle
registration renewed with a fake license, Collier sheriff’s deputies said. Marcial Montes-Lopez, 29, of the 1100 block of 21st Street Southwest, used a driver’s license
described in an arrest report as “obviously fake because of the cartoonish photo and
vibrant colors,” deputies wrote in an arrest report. He faces a single charge of possessing a counterfeit driver’s license. Montes-Lopez was trying to renew his registration at a Collier County Tax Collector’s office in Golden Gate when employees spotted
the fake ID, deputies said. The license number on the ID was issued to Montes-Lopez
but expired in July 2010, the report said.
A man facing drug trafficking charges made a strong first impression at his court
appearance in Broward County when he showed up wearing a “crack shirt.” The shirt
included instructions for making crack cocaine.
Chilean doctors say a 266 pound man who was shot in the stomach was saved
by his rolls of fat. They say the bullet lodged in the man’s fat and did not damage
any vital organs. A thinner person would have been killed immediately. A hospital
spokesperson in Santiago says the man’s thick layer of fat acted in the same way as
a bulletproof vest, taking the impact of the shot. La Cuarta newspaper reports Omar
Alegria Campos, who’s 33, was driving his bus in the San Bernardo area of Santiago
when an armed man got on and started robbing passengers. Alegria stopped the bus
and switched on his emergency lights to alert the police. He then tried to grab the
man’s weapon. The attacker fired twice. The first bullet smashed the windscreen and
the second lodged in the bus driver’s stomach. Despite the wound, Alegria managed
to throw himself on top of the robber, stopping him from escaping. A passing police
patrol arrested the 29-year-old attacker. They also took Alegria to El Pino Hospital,
where doctors extracted the bullet and sewed up the wound.
Two northern Arizona parents were arrested after photos of their young children
allegedly being abused were posted on Facebook. An anonymous Facebook user
reportedly alerted authorities on Wednesday after seeing two children, an infant and a
toddler, bound with duct tape around their wrists and ankles in photos posted to the
social networking site. In the photos, the 2-year-old and 10-month-old are allegedly
bound with duct tape around their wrists and ankles. Their mouths were also closed
shut with duct tape. Police said one of the children was hung upside down on an
exercise apparatus. Jayla Hamm, who was 17 at the time of the abuse, received 10
days in jail and two years probation. Her boyfriend, Corde Honea, 19, an ex-convict,
was sentenced to three to five years for child abuse and received an additional 12 to
24 months on felony possession of stolen firearms.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Q: Can I explore treatment centers even if my friend is not willing to go into
treatment? What should I look for in a treatment center?
A: Yes. If you find centers that might appeal to your friend, either by their location or medical approach, it might encourage him or her to enter treatment.
You can call this helpline and get some advice on how to proceed: 1-800-
662-HELP (4357) (This service is supported by the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services.) You can also look for a treatment center online, which
will allow you to search for a treatment center in your area and also give you
information about the kind of addiction or patients it treats.
Treatment approaches must be tailored to address each patient’s drug
abuse patterns and also other medical, psychiatric, and social problems.
Some treatment centers offer outpatient treatment programs, which allow
patients to continue to perform some daily responsibilities. However, many
people do better in inpatient (residential) treatment. An addiction specialist
can advise your friend or loved one about the most promising options.
NIDA’s Principles of Drug Addiction Treatment compiles 30 years of research into a set of general principles and frequently asked questions about
effective treatment. Using these principles, NIDA has developed a booklet
that outlines 5 questions you can ask when looking for a quality treatment
program. You might want to have these materials on hand when you talk to
treatment centers to help you ask the right questions.

FROM HAUNTED HOUSE
TO JAIL HOUSE
Four women were locked up after an officer found marijuana in their vehicle following a haunted house visit on
October 1.
According to the affidavit, a Nowata County deputy was
contacted by another deputy who was working security at the attraction at approximately 9:04 p.m. The other
deputy advised five women entered the haunted house
reeking of marijuana. When he looked inside the vehicle
they arrived in, he saw a marijuana cigarette – the car also
smelled like weed.
The deputy located the suspect vehicle in the 200 block
of West Cherokee. As he drove behind it, he could also
smell marijuana. He stopped the car in the 100 block of
West Cherokee.
The driver was identified as 19-year-old Tulsa woman
Taylor Jai Lynn Shepherd. The front seat passenger was
Broken Arrow woman Jayda Nicole Credit, 18. Two of
the backseat passengers were identified as Tulsa woman
Ashlee Christine Reamy, 21, and 19-year-old Avery Justine Blount from Broken Arrow.
The deputy was advised Shepherd had a suspended
license. All of the women told him there was no marijuana
in the vehicle, except for Blount. She told the officer where
he could find the drug in the vehicle. He found weed in the
front seat console and under some trash in the front passenger floorboard.
The other girls continued to deny the presence of marijuana in the car,
until Credit asked to speak with the officer. She told him Blount and Reamy
had stolen some weed from a dealer and were selling it. She said Reamy
had evidence of drug transactions on her phone.
Reamy admitted to helping Blount sell the weed “once or twice.” She
said she was struggling, and Blount would put gas in her car if she helped.
At the jail, the deputy looked through Reamy’s phone and found numerous messages about her selling drugs. Officers also found trace amounts
of marijuana in Blount’s purse.
Credit is being charged with possession with intent to distribute.
Reamy is being charged with possession with intent to distribute and
unlawful use of communication facility.
Shepherd is being charged with possession with intent to distribute and
driving with license suspended.
Blount is being charged with possession with intent to distribute.
All of their bonds were set at $5,000 each.
Credit and Shepherd are scheduled to appear in court on November 8,
2017.
Blount and Reamy are scheduled to appear in court on December 6,
2017.

The Ottawa County
Sheriff’s Office partnered
up with several community organizations and businesses to bring domestic
violence awareness to the
county.
Sheriff Jeremy Floyd contacted the Fern Holland Advocacy Center in
Miami about an idea for a wrap on one of the sheriff’s cruisers for Domestic
Violence Month. They were thrilled! Several other local businesses provided sponsorship for the wrap and the new cruiser was unveiled October 13.

MCDANIEL ARRESTED AFTER
PULLING KNIFE ON STORE CLERK
A Miami man was locked up after he allegedly
pulled a knife on a store clerk and tried to prevent
her from calling 911 on September 30.
According to the affidavit, Miami officers were dispatched to a convenience store in the 1000 block
of E. Steve Owens Boulevard at approximately 5:40
a.m. to investigate a 911 hang up call. En route to
the location, dispatch advised the clerk’s husband
had called 911 – he said his wife had called him
and she needed police at the store immediately.
When officers arrived, they saw a man identified
as 25-year-old Cody Lee McDaniel walk toward the
coolers. The clerk pointed at McDaniel and told officers the man had a knife.
Officers ordered the man out of the store at gunpoint. They placed him in
handcuffs and found a black knife on his person.
The employee told police McDaniel came into the store with a woman and
they bought two drinks. He later returned by himself and told her he had just
been stabbed at a nearby hotel. McDaniel kept walking back and forth in front
of the counter. He also said some people were watching him and trying to
rob him.
Then man then pulled out a knife and took her cellphone off the counter.
When she asked him to give it back, McDaniel told her he didn’t have it. She
called her number from the store phone and heard it ringing. The clerk said
she was scared, so she called her husband and told him about the situation.
She and her husband then both called 911.
While waiting on police to arrive, McDaniel pulled his knife back out and told
the woman not to call the police. He said he was on probation and hadn’t
checked in. He then went to the men’s restroom, where she and another officer later found her phone case. Her phone was located near the front aisles
of the store.
McDaniel refused to speak to police about the incident.
During booking, officers found a battery on his person – the battery belonged to the victim’s cellphone. Officers believed McDaniel took the battery
out of the phone to prevent the victim from calling the police.
McDaniel is being charged with robbery in the first degree and interference
with emergency telephone call. His bond was set at $53,000, and he was
scheduled to appear in court on November 1, 2017.

TALK ABOUT BIRD BRAIN…
Game Warden Ben Bickerstaff, of
Alfalfa county, received a call of a suspicious person camping well inside
the closed area on the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge. Upon contacting the suspect, Warden Bickerstaff
found two owl talons on the dash of
the vehicle.
Further investigation awarded 18
raptor talons, several loose avian feathers, raptor wings, wood pecker feet
and many other bird parts. Five deer hides and numerous other fur bearing
wildlife parts were also in possession.
In addition to the illegal wildlife parts law enforcement located and seized a
jar of psychedelic mushrooms, marijuana and pipe, and a psychedelic mushroom honey mixture.
After the search two recently discarded raptor carcasses were located on
the refuge near where the suspect camped.
Federal Wildlife Officer Shelby Finney (USFWS) and Lt. Ryan Webster (Oklahoma State Parks) were also on the scene helping process copious amount
of evidence.
On a funny note the suspect had a bag of live tarantulas that were quite a
surprise to the officers searching.
Obviously several state and federal charges are pending.
