A Comanche man was taken into
custody after he got into a tug of war
with officers over a photograph found
in a burned-out house.
Vernon Dukes, 55, was charged with
Jan. 2 with assault and battery on a police officer.
A little after 4:00 p.m. on New Year’s
Day, Comanche Police Officers Teresa
Corp and Keith Corp were called to a
home in the 700 block of Patterson
about a disturbance. When they arrived, several people were in the front
yard of the home, which had burned
earlier in the day. One woman had gotten a picture of her deceased sister’s house (who had been married
to Dukes) from the ruins. Officer Teresa Corp told her to put it back
because it did not belong to her. The woman was advised not to remove anything else from the house, and if she wanted anything from
the house, she would have to consult a lawyer.
A man at the house told the officers he was the nephew of Dukes,
and Dukes had told him to get the picture and his whiskey out of the
house. Because of the dispute, Officer Keith Corp took the picture
and told the nephew to have Dukes retrieve it from the police station.
About that time, Dukes arrived and started yelling at the officers
to give him his “damn picture.” He then got up in Keith Corp’s face
and grabbed the picture, but the officer told him to let go of it. Dukes
refused and said, “If you do not let go of my picture, I’m gonna stomp
a mud hole in your a**!”
As the officer and Dukes were struggling with the picture, Officer
Teresa Corps could smell the odor of booze on Dukes’ breath. Once
again, he was told to stop, but Dukes instead swung his arm at Keith
Corps and he and Dukes fell to the ground. Teresa Corps immediately cuffed Dukes and he was transported to the Stephens County Jail.
Bond was set at $5000 and he was ordered back to court Feb. 27
for his preliminary hearing.
Save the whiskey!

A drunk driver nearly killed herself
and several officers after she failed to
slow down at a accident site.
Nicole Love, 32, of Duncan, was
charged Dec. 19 with driving a motor
vehicle under the inflence of alcohol,
2nd and subsequent offense, driving
with license revoked, and transporting
an open container.
Duncan Police Officer Bryan Eades
was working traffic control at an accident on Highway 7 and Elk. He had
his emergency lights flashing, cones
laid out to direct traffic away from the
accident, and had on a reflective vest. He was shining his flashlight
to help direct traffic when he noticed a car coming upon the accident
scene at a high rate of speed. He flashed his flashlight at the driver,
but the driver continued on. His patrol car was directly in its path.
He knew the car was not going to be able to stop in time, so he radioed the others to watch out. The driver suddenly slammed on the
brakes, steered right, but not before taking out several cones- one of
which was dragged about 100 feet. The driver then made an abrupt
right and barely missed the patrol unit.
Still going, Officer Eades waved his arms and yelled at the driver to
stop. The driver was staring at him over the wheel with a blank look
on her face. He was forced to bang on her car as it went past him, and
she finally stopped the car. He then opened the car door and told the
driver to put it in park. After several repeated commands, she finally
complied.
Eades could smell the booze on her clothing and breath, and there
were several beer cans on the floorboard, all open and one was cold.
The driver, Love, said she had been drinking for the last four hours.
At the Stephens County Jail, she blew a .13 on the breathalyzer.
A close call

By request of the Lawton Police
Department, the OSBI opened an
investigation last month involving
an allegation of inappropriate texting between a 42-year-old Waurika man and a 15-year-old female.
On December 20, Robert Gutierrez, Jr. turned himself into the
Jefferson County Jail. Gutierrez, a
reserve officer for the city of Ryan
at the time, was charged with Engaging in Sexual Communication
with a Minor by Use of Technology.
A $20,000 bond was set by the
court.
Gutierrez was the foster parent of the teenager several months
prior to the explicit texts. The girl’s current foster parent alerted
police to the crime.

There are times in our life when
others hurt or anger us. We sometimes
feel a strong desire to settle the score.
Proverbs 20:22 says Do not say, ‘I’ll
pay you back for this wrong!’ Wait for
the Lord and he will deliver you.”
The feelings that drive us to revenge
are powerful and strong, their
destructive nature can consume us.
The Bible responds with a “Do not...”
statement, not just a word of teaching
or advice but this verse is worded with
the strength of a command.
We would be better off to stifle the
thoughts of revenge early and quickly;
we should not even speak about it. When thoughts of revenge come we should
redirect them to thoughts of waiting on the Lord.
There are many reasons why we need to wait for the Lord to act. To wait without
giving in or compromise is a statement of faith. To wait is a testimony that we
believe in the promises of God and his commitment to us.
We are to wait, not for time to heal all wounds, or wait for an opportunity, or
wait for the sake of waiting, we are to wait for The Lord. We wait on purpose
for the one who created all things and has power to change all things, he is the
one who rules the universe and will judge the hearts of all men. We wait and we
should focus on the Lord and not our anger.
This verse ends with a conditional promise. The condition of course is not to
act on our desire to get revenge but to wait for the Lord instead. The promise is
that he will deliver. It suggest that the Lord will make things right, but it is not
specific; will the Lord deliver us from our enemies, or the situation or maybe
more importantly from ourselves and our bitterness?
As much as we need to be delivered from our own enemies we also need to be
delivered from our desire for revenge. It may be that even though God is a just
God he is more interested in changing our natures than balancing justice. He
allows circumstances in our lives to give us the challenges we need to grow. He
may sometimes deliver us not from our oppressors but from ourselves.

By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
As a Trooper, we see a lot of stuff
driving the roads of Oklahoma
everyday. I’m going to discuss
some stuff that I have seen, or have
heard from other Troopers’ stuff they have seen. Some of this stuff
will have you shaking your head, but each and every thing I am going
to talk about today has the potential to cause an accident and hurt
or kill people. Some of you will read this and wonder if I am talking
about you! I’m talking about things that fall under the category of
inattention.
I’ll start with the usual...talking on a cell phone. A significant
portion of the driving population talk on their cells while driving, and
while it is not against the law, it does divide a driver’s attention from
the roadway. Divided attention slows reaction time. Slower reaction
time can be the difference between a near-hit or an accident! Take it
a step further, and you have texting while driving. There is a national
campaign going on addressing this very dangerous activity. Not only
is your attention divided, but usually your sight is divided between a
screen and the roadway...not a good situation. With texting becoming
a normal form of communication, this problem will continue, and it
has and will cost lives.
Now to some other stuff. I’ve worked crashes where someone was
passing food they had just got at the drive-thru back to their children...
as well as people eating while driving. I’ve seen and worked crashes
involving some ladies putting make-up on while driving....same
context as texting, the eyes are divided up between the mirror and
the road. Guys, you have your own version, using an electric razor to
shave while driving!
Finally, some out of the ordinary stuff. I’ve seen people driving
down the road, with a novel or magazine sitting on the steering
wheel so they can read it while driving! Does that sound safe to
you? Obviously they weren’t seeing everything on the road, because
they didn’t see the Trooper right next to them! Also, watching a
movie has been the culprit of some distracted driving. There is even
a law that forbids a TV screen to be in the driver’s view.
All of these examples are instances of inattentive driving, and all
have caused accidents. How many of them have you done yourself? If
you have an accident while doing one of these or similar activities,
will the loved one of someone killed think that was a good reason for
them to die?
At a minimum, you crash and we give you a citation for inattentive
driving that results in an accident. Operating a 4500 lb plus vehicle
requires your undivided attention, and we owe it to the others on the
road as well as yourself, to give it.
Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

What you’re saying
about this on...
Natasha V: What a dumb*** hahahahaha
Christy C: Scum
Roger S: obviously that guy needs help ....

Ashley W: Wow that’s really low.
Suzi P: Loser:.....go get a freaking job!
Paul D: he will get all the help he DESERVES in
jail roger, he deserves a kick in the head
Julia R: All i can say is what a jerk!!
Matt S: At least he wasnt stealing from an okc
citizen. Dont lock him up. Prisons are over crowded
w petty charges on ppl like this fine him. Send him
on his way. Matt s for okc mayor
Corey W: they still have all that hanging on the
fence..to me its morbid in a way..but it was low to
disrespect the dead like that..guy was prob out of
his mind from hunger and drugs..
Lisa W: Being homeless does not justify stealing
from the memorial. those ppl and their families
have suffered enough without some idiot stealing
their memorials!!
Bethany H: Some people have no respect. A 39
year old man should know better than all that.
Rich L: Homelessness is no excuse.
Kelli E: What a disrespectful PIG!
Kristi C: I don’t see anywhere that says he’s
homeless...all I see is that he is from Spencer.
Sergio C: his actions were disrepecful and his
attitude very disturbing and his behivor nasty and
perverted..........
Lm L: Look at all of these people making excuses
for him!! Disgraceful!!
Cande J: Do people not know what respect is
anymore! Thats a sorry excuse for an Oklahoman if
u ask me! I think they should throw everything and
the book at him for being so rude ans disrespectful!
And shame on the people for giving him excuses!
And u wonder why our country is the way it is!
Glenna W: He is responsible for this action he
performed. No one else. He is a grown ass man.
Just one of many without any respect for anyone.
And that spitting is as gross as it gets. I’ve had
enough if these low life’s
Kelly B: I think the law should be if u kill
someone in cold blood should die! And if u steel
cut off your arm!!
Corey W: should have been punched in the
mouth for spitting that is a very hateful thing to do
to someone..
Roger S: no ones making excuses ....didn’t know
we were in the presence of so many perfect people
Rick J: @ Corey he had a hamburger but I agree
possibly drugs but definitely a thief
Jessica W: He doesn’t need assistance Roger he
needs to get a job!!!!!! He’s 39!!!!! And he needs to
learn respect! That’s probably why he is roaming
streets stealing and spitting on people bc he was
never taught respect, discipline, and how to work
for what he needs and wants!!!!! Geez!!!!!!!
Jessica W: And he was stealing from a federal
memorial...Obvious isn’t physically harming
anyone but i can only imagine what else this doofus
will do! Uh... no Matt we don’t need you for okc
mayor LOL!
Corey W: ya u are right..he did manage to hussle
up a burger he should have sit down somewhere
and ate it...maby he would have simply passed out
then..ha
Robert S: Throw the book at this *&%$.
Worthless people irritate me. This is one of them.
Jamie B: How disrespectful and sad. 🙁
A Spencer man was arrested for taking items from
the OKC Bombing Memorial fence and spitting on
a visitor to the memorial, according to police.
A witness told police he spotted Dominique
Polk, 39, taking necklaces and other items from
the fence at the memorial. The fence outside the
memorial on Harvey Street has become a place
where people leave mementos to remember those
lost in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing.
The witness said after he spotted Polk taking the
items, he attempted to stall Polk until federal
security guards could arrive. That’s when the
man said Polk spit in his face, then walked a short
distance away and unwrapped a cheeseburger,
leaving the wrapper on the bombing grounds.
Federal security guards then called OKC police and Polk was arrested on
suspicion of assault and battery, larceny and littering.

An Alex couple spent the holidays in county
lockup after police say the pair assaulted them
Dec. 29.
Alex police officer David Ivey and a Grady
County sheriff’s deputy were called to a home
on the 100 block of East H Street. When they arrived, they saw Joey Johnson, 52, and Kimberly
Johnson and confronted them. Kim made comments about harming herself, but while the officers were in transport Joey said he didn’t want
police assistance.
When Ivey knocked on the door, Joey said, “My wife wanted to harm herself but she was
drunk. I told them I didn’t want the police here.”
To make matters worse, when Ivey tried to talk to Kim, Joey started a physical altercation
with the officer. Joey pushed Ivey against the wall, took him down by the stomach and then
tried to grab Ivey’s gun, according to the affidavit.
Not one to let the police attack her man, Kim screamed loudly and jumped on Ivey, hitting
him in the face multiple times. Ivey had to call for backup, as the pair took turns beating up
the officer. Eventually, another officer used a taser on Kim, who stopped resisting just long
enough to be arrested. Once Kim was detained, Joey stopped fighting and let the officers take
him into custody.
Both Johnsons face charges of assault and battery on a police officer. They posted $10,000
bonds each and they have court set for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 13.

Two would-be repeat drug offenders
are in Grady County
custody on $2.5 million dollars bonds
each after police say
they were driving
around with more
than 450 grams of
methamphetamine.
On Jan. 4, District Six Drug Task Force Investigator David Gatlin said he received information that Odell Fish and Craig Williamson, both 51, would be meeting up that day so Fish could buy some
methamphetamine. They met at a local church and at a Valero convenience store in separate cars, then decided to drive around town
with the drug together, according to the affidavit.
Soon after they left the church in a Chevrolet pickup, Oklahoma
Highway Patrol troopers pulled Williamson over, with Fish as his
passenger. There was a box of Flat Bread Crisps next to Fish in the
pickup, which contained a black bag concealing a sandwich bag,
seven small plastic bags and a sack of methamphetamine, as well as
$6,000 in cash.
The pair faces charges of conspiracy, aggravated trafficking in illegal drugs and possession of firearms after committing a felony.
Fish was convicted of possession of a controlled substance in 2006
and received a two-year suspended prison sentence. Williamson was
convicted in 2002 of possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute, which occurred in two separate counties in Texas,
court records show. A U.S. District Court also found him guilty of
conspiracy to possess methamphetamine. He was sentenced to seven years in the Texas prison system for the charges.
For the aggravated drug trafficking charge, the pair faces a minimum of 30 years to life in prison.
Fish and Williamson will appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 13.

A stolen car ended with the arrest of
the Grady County version of Bonnie and
Clyde on Jan. 8.
Grady County sheriff’s deputy Sean
Knight was dispatched to Tuttle in reference to a stolen vehicle. When he arrived
at the scene, the victim said a man named
“Chill” stole his car. “Chill” said the man
could not have his vehicle back unless he
gave him $250 or marijuana. The man
lent “Chill” his father’s car but it was
never returned, he said. He told Knight
where the car was, leading the deputy to
go pay “Chill” and his wife a visit.
When Knight went to find the car, he
spoke with Miranda Sorber, 31, and was
immediately overcome by the smell of
marijuana coming from the house. Sorber
said she lives with her husband William
Hall, 35, who has a street name of “Chill”.
When Knight asked Sorber whether there
were drugs in the house, she said no.
However, because of the smell, Knight
believed she was being deceptive, so he
said he would search her home.
Sorber gave consent to search the residence and told Knight there might be “a small amount” of marijuana
inside. Sorber also told them Hall was in the back bedroom, where
the smell of marijuana got even stronger, according to the affidavit.
Knight’s search revealed multiple bags of marijuana and a variety of drug paraphernalia, which included pipes with methamphetamine residue. To make matters worse, the deputy found a loaded
9mm handgun in the house.
Sorber and Hall remain in custody on $25,000 bonds each. They
have court set for 1:30 p.m. Feb. 13.
