Four Duncan men are accused of robbing three local convenient
stores after one of them needed money for a utility bill.
Tre Babineaux, 17, Dakota Smith, 18, Payton Thad Graham, 20,
and Quincy J. Sahtaren Barnes, 19, all of Duncan, were charged
April 5 with three counts of first-degree robbery. Babineaux,
Smith, and Graham are being held on a $5 million bond; Barnes’
was set at $2.5 million.
Babineaux is being charged as an adult under the Youthful Offender Act.
According to the police affidavit, on March 27, Chisholm Corner
at Highway 81 and Plato was robbed by two masked men, one of
which had a handgun.
A few days later, on March 31, Stripes Convenience Store at 12th
and Bois d’ Arc was robbed by two masked men, and one was armed
with a handgun in that robbery. Twenty-five minutes later, Love’s
Convenience Store at 2nd and Main was robbed by two masked
men with one man having a handgun.
Video was obtained from all three robberies. The Chisholm Corner video had audio and patrol officers said the voice they heard
belonged to Smith, who was the gunman. The other guy in the
store was believed to be Babineaux.
The video at Stripes also showed two men enter the store, and
one with the gun. The other took beer from the cooler while the
gunman robbed the clerk of the cash from the register.
The video from Loves showed the gunman to be in a pink hoodie,
and the man that jumped the counter at Love’s looked to be the
same guy as the gunman from Stripes. The man that jumped the
counter and took the money left footprints on the counter, which
were later identified as allegedly belonging to Babineaux.
During an interview with Babineaux, he claimed he and Smith
executed their plan to rob the Chisholm Corner Convenient Store
because he needed money for his “light bill.”
Graham is suspected to be the driver of the getaway car at Chisholm Corner and Stripes, but Smith was the lookout at the last
two robberies.

Armed Bank Robber Lets

An armed bank robbery in
Melbourne, Fla., was cut short
when the robber seemed to become a bit mesmerized by the
blonde teller, allowing her an
opportunity to grab his gun.
According to Melbourne police, the man walked into the
Florida Business Bank on Harbor Blvd at around 2:50 p.m.,
pulled a gun from his pants
and demanded cash from the
teller.
The teller complied with the
robber’s demands and placed an undisclosed sum of cash on the counter.
When the robber set his gun on the counter to collect the cash, the teller quickly snatched
it up without hesitation. The robber grabbed what cash he could, stuck it in a bag and fled
from the bank on a bicycle.

A Ringling woman who accused
a Stephens County deputy of sexual
misconduct in 2010 now faces perjury
charges after she admitted to “embellishing” her testimony.
Sara Melton, 25, was charged March
15 and then released from the Stephens County Jail on a $10,000 bond
after her initial appearance on March
22.
Deputy Brandon Balthrop was found
not guilty by a jury in 2012.
According to the police affidavit,
Melton had a phone conversation with
her husband, who was incarcerated after a traffic stop, via a jail conversation and the information she told
her husband about the abuse did not line up with testimony she presented in court. When confronted by investigators, she began crying
and said she had been forced by her mother-in-law, Teresa Tiger, to
embellish the incident to “make it sound worse than it was to assist
in a law suit.”
Melton’s next court date is scheduled for May 29.

Stupid criminals
A woman in Virginia called the police after returning home and finding her Crock Pot empty of the chicken she had put in earlier. Instead
of assuming she had neglected to start cooking it in the first place,
the woman very intelligently decided that someone had broken in and
stolen it. Yes, snatched a half-raw chicken from a boiling Crock Pot.
There was no sign of forced entry, but the woman did not own any pets
that could’ve been the culprits. Anyway, nobody had dinner that night.

A Duncan man was arrested March
20 after he tried to bully himself past a
clerk to steal a pack of smokes.
Kevin Thomas, Jr., 21, was charged
March 21 with attempted larceny of
merchandise from a retailer and assault and battery.
According to the police affidavit, police were dispatched to the Git N Go
on West Bois d’ Arc about a theft that
had just occurred. The clerk told police
Thomas had entered the store and demanded a pack of cigarettes. The clerk
told Thomas he couldn’t just give him
the smokes, he had to pay for them. Thomas tried to force his way
behind the counter where the cigarettes were and then cold-cocked
the clerk in the face. In return, the clerk pinned Thomas against the
counter and blasted him with pepper spray. Thomas took off running
northbound on 9th.
Officers swarmed Thomas’ house on 9th St. A woman answered the
door and said Thomas ran to the back of the house when he saw the
cops. During a search of the house, police found fresh footprints on
top of the refrigerator. Just above it was the opening to the attic. Officers called for him to come down, to no avail. Finally, officers got an
OC spray canister and told him they were going to deploy it into the
attic if he didn’t come down. They gave him to the count of 15, and
just before they reached the magic number, Thomas poked his head
out and surrendered. He had very bloodshot, watery eyes, consistent
with being pepper sprayed in the face.
Thomas was taken to the Stephens County Jail where he was
booked. At his arraignment, he pleaded guilty to the charges and was
given a 15 day suspended sentence, $100 fine and court costs on the
larceny charge. On the assault charge, he was given a 90 suspended
sentence. He was then released.

Answer: The first thing to
understand in this discussion
is that there is only one race—
the human race. Caucasians,
Africans, Asians, Indians, Arabs,
and Jews are not different
races. Rather, they are different
ethnicities of the human race.
All human beings have the same
physical characteristics (with
minor variations, of course).
More importantly, all human
beings are created in the image
and likeness of God (Genesis
1:26-27). God loved the world so
much that He sent Jesus to lay
down His life for us (John 3:16).
The “world” obviously includes all ethnic groups.
God does not show partiality or favoritism (Deuteronomy 10:17; Acts 10:34;
Romans 2:11; Ephesians 6:9), and neither should we. James 2:4 describes
those who discriminate as “judges with evil thoughts.” Instead, we are to love
our neighbors as ourselves (James 2:8). All forms of racism, prejudice, and
discrimination are affronts to the work of Christ on the cross.
Jesus commands us to love one another as He loves us (John 13:34). If God is
impartial and loves us with impartiality, then we need to love others with that
same high standard. Jesus teaches in Matthew 25 that whatever we do to the
least of His brothers, we do to Him. If we treat a person with contempt, we are
mistreating a person created in God’s image; we are hurting somebody whom
God loves and for whom Jesus died.
Racism, in varying forms and to various degrees, has been a plague on humanity
for thousands of years. Brothers and sisters of all ethnicities, this should not be.
Victims of racism, prejudice, and discrimination need to forgive. Ephesians 4:32
declares, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just
as in Christ God forgave you.” Racists may not deserve your forgiveness, but we
deserved God’s forgiveness far less.
What does the Bible say about racism,
prejudice, and discrimination?

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

most wanted What you’re saying
about this on...
Winnie B: The officials must be planning
to run for government office. None others
are as stupid!!!
Haley A: So was he supposed to let the
bear attack him then call for help granted he
should’ve called the wild life people first but
really people he’s 76 like this man means
any harm
Becca W: ridiculous! so the make my day
law protects us from human attack but we
can’t defend ourselves against rampaging
beasts?! wtf!
Kelli O: Crazy!
Elissa T: This is ridiculous-that man was
well within his right to protect himself on
his own property-what the hell is that state
thinking-if i were the officials involved in
that state in this case id be so ASHAMED-so
glad I’m an Okie-that crap wouldn’t happen
hereDarla B: OMG!!!
Brandy M: OMG poor old guy
Margaret T: thats crazy leave the man
alone he was in the right!!!!
Tasha T: So now we aren’t even
allowed to defend ourselves with getting
arrested???????
Evan W: THATS BULLS**T!!!!!
Ashley N: Omg its a freaking bear... Lol
who cares... ugh...nice going America...
yea... lets choose obama.... one more time...
ugh idiots!
Melvin M: Hell saved his Own Life !!
Kevin C: Thats what they get for electing
the liberal idiots is all i can say
Shawna A: Wow just shows how
(beeped) up the government is and let’s
start making BIRD feeder illegal because
it leads to shooting wild animals that are
chasing you in trying to kill you makes me
think would the bear be in jail if he had
killed the man????
Sherida E: Omgoodness how crazy he
was protecting hisself.
Amber V: Ridiculous
Michele H: Everyone that lives around
bears knows that birdseed is NOT OK! That
is their favorite food. I guess if you have
never lived with them this may sound stupid.
But I have and this guy sounds stupid to me!
Of course the guy knew. So, yes, it is called
baiting. He is in the bears habitat and has to
take precautions!
John F: That’s is the dumbest thing I have
heard I would have done the same thing
Peewee M: Need to shoot some idiots
with some common sense. Meat is baiting
to. Don’t cook on your grill there. You are
just trying to kill a bear. Damn idiot
John F: He was in his YARD NOT IN THE
BEARS HABITAT 90% of all animal attacks
r done around homes look it up my has bird
feeders so she can watch birds not bears
Brandi M: I never knew bears like BIRD
seed, that ridiculous. The bear could have
had rabies and was attacking him. I’m
an animal person but if it was after me or
my familly id have shot it also. If he really
wanted to kill it he would have put poison
in his “bait”.
Kyle T: He walked out knowing the bear
was there, brought a shotgun, he intended
to kill it the whole time. I like how this story
makes him out to be the victim.
A 76-year-old Auburn, Massachusetts man, Richard Ahlstrand,
had spotted a black bear in his backyard around his bird feeders.
He went to fill up his bird feeders, and as a precaution, he took
his shotgun. Sure enough, the black bear showed up and started
to chase the old man. The man aimed his shotgun at the bear
and shot it, killing the bear.
Now he’s facing charges for illegally killing the bear, illegally
baiting the bear, illegal possession of a firearm and failure to
secure a weapon. Because he “murdered” the bear, police confiscated his shotgun as well as
two others he had in his possession. Ahlstrand pointed out the idiocy of his elected officials:
“They got me set up now like I’m some kind of murderer. And then the environmental guy
told me, ‘You should have called me instead of shooting it.’ What was I going to do, say ‘Mister
Bear, would you excuse me please while I go make a phone call?’”
Authorities thought that the bear may have had cubs, but as Ahlstrand hadn’t shot the bear,
he may not be here today. He was sure it would have at least mauled him. Ahlstrand recalled
that the bear was about 7 feet tall when it stood on its hind legs, and he estimated it weighed
around 300 or 400 pounds.
Officials say the man “baited” the bear with birdseed... Because we all know that bird seed is
only used to bait bears.

A Chickasha man’s world went
up in smoke after officers were dispatched to his apartment because it
reeked of marijuana.
Brandon Petalcu, 21, was charged
with April 1 with possession of a CDS
in the presence of a minor, causing
a child to be in need of supervision,
and possession of paraphernalia.
According to the police affidavit,
Officer Chad King was dispatched to
an apartment on South 14th Street
on a call of possible marijuana use.
When he arrived at the apartment,
he could smell the odor of burnt
marijuana even before the resident opened the door. When King
knocked on the door, Patalcu answered. King asked if he could enter
and speak with him and Petalcu said okay. King entered into a cloud
of smoke that reeked of burnt marijuana. King let Petalcu know he
knew it was marijuana and asked where it was.
Petaclu led the officer to the couch where he was sitting and pulled
some from the cushions, then he went to the kitchen and pulled
some from the freezer, more was found on a window sill, and Xanax
were in a drawer.
King then heard a small child cough. In a back bedroom, a 2-yearold toddler was sleeping in a bed.
Petalcu was placed in cuffs and taken to the Grady County Jail.
Another person visiting the apartment, John Smallwood, was also
arrested on a complaint of possession of CDS. DHS and the child’s
mother, Katy Chandler, were called. Chandler knew the child was
being exposed to marijuana and knew it was wrong and did not call
authorities, so she was arrested and also charged with causing a
child to be in need of supervision.

fta grand larceny ordered to appear/ pay dus ordered to appear/ pay a&b w/ dangerous weapon probation violation
An 29-year-old Chicksha woman is in
serious trouble after she threatened a
state’s witness as she went through the
drive-thru at the 4th Street Taco Bell.
A felony charge of intimidation of a
state’s witness was added to Yashema
Johnson’s rap sheet on April 8. The witness had reported her with marijuana
back in February. She also has another
pending drug charge that was filed in
August, 2012. In 2009, she was charged
with larceny of merchandise and received a 30-day suspended sentence in
a plea agreement. On top of that, court
records show she has had two protective orders filed against herone in 2002 and the other in 2008- both were dismissed.
Johnson allegedly went through the drive-thru at Taco Bell and
saw the person who had reported her in the February 2013 drug
charge. The witness said she told him she knew it was him who reported her, that she was getting people to go after him, and that she
was going to bash out the windows in his truck. Another employee
told police she received a call from Johnson and she told her the
same thing about the witness.
Officer Clayton Hobbs went to Johnson’s residence and spoke with
her. She claimed all she wanted at Taco Bell was some sauce and that
the witness was rude to her. He asked if she threatened him and she
replied no. She then began to tell her side of the story, first saying
she knew the witness told on her, then she said she didn’t know the
witness told on her.
Johnson was arrested and transported to the Grady County Jail.
On the way, she said she didn’t mean anything that she said to the
witness, and that if Hobbs would just take her back to Taco Bell, she
would say she was sorry. They didn’t stop.

Roderick Smith
Roderick Lynn Smith was
convicted of killing his wife,
Jennifer Smith, and her four
children, Shameka Nicole
Carter, 10; Glen Edward Carter
Jr., 9; Ladarian J. Carter, 7;
and Kenesha R. Carter, 6, in
1993 in Canadian County.
Convicted in 1994, Smith was
handed fi ve death sentences.
Prosecutors say he killed his
wife during an argument
and then killed the children
because they were witnesses.
Jennifer Smith and her sons
were stabbed; her daughters were strangled.
During the sentencing phase, jurors heard from a former
girlfriend of Roderick Smith’s who was stabbed by him about
30 times in 1986. For that crime, Smith pleaded guilty to
assault and battery and was sentenced to two years in prison.
Defense attorneys say Smith has a brain disorder that
triggers violent episodes.
Smith has been on death row since November 14, 1994.
On May 7, oral arguments will begin before the Oklahoma
Court of Criminal Appeals alleging Smith’s death sentence
should be thrown out because the Oklahoma County jury did
not consider evidence of Smith’s alleged mental retardation.

By Lt. Jeff James
Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Ever think to yourself, “what an
amazing time we live in?”
Technology is so incredible, that
we take for granted stuff that wasn’t even possible 40 or 50 years
ago. Whether its cell phones, GPS systems, instant information
through the internet or high tech cars, we go through this world with
a wide array of things that make our lives easier. But what happens
when something goes wrong? I’m going to talk about things that
can go wrong, that may leave you on the side of the road, and ways
you can help yourself in these situations.
Its hard to believe that people still run out of gas these days.
Incredibly, it still happens on an almost daily basis. Sometimes, it
is the result of just not paying attention, and sometimes it is the
result of trusting a little too much in the technology that is built into
our automobiles today. All Troopers have heard from a stranded
motorist that their vehicle said they still had 20 more miles until
empty. The fact is, that number is usually generated by past driving
behavior and gas mileage averages, and is not an actual measure
of how much gas is left in the automobile. Do yourself a favor and
give a cushion...start looking to fill up any time you are under a 1/4
tank of fuel. Also, pay attention to the gas gauge. In the event that
you do run out of gas, be prepared! No matter how high tech your
vehicle is today, its just a big hunk of metal if it runs out of gas!
You may want to carry a small gas can. You certainly want to get
your vehicle off of the roadway to prevent it from being a traffic
hazard and putting yourself and others in danger. If you walk to a
gas station, be alert for traffic. *55 will get you in touch with a local
Highway Patrol Headquarters, but the Trooper may be a long way
off, or on a
call, so be prepared to help yourself! Another common problem
we run into is people who need their vehicle jump-started. You
may forget to turn the lights off and park it somewhere, or leave an
interior light on, or anything that may drain the battery.
Carry a set of jumper cables. If you have those, all you’ll need
is another person whose vehicle is running, and you can get yours
going! Make sure to refer to the owner’s manual to make sure how
to hook up the cables properly. As high tech as vehicles are today,
hooking them up wrong could result in further problems!
Ever hear that old saying about and “ounce of prevention”? Keep
up the maintenance on your vehicle. The owner’s manual usually
has a maintenance schedule for your specific vehicle. Old sayings
usually are old because they are tried and true! Thanks for reading,
buckle up, and be safe!
