A Stephens County inmate with a sense
of notoriety and a nickname landed himself in deeper trouble after he refused to
bury the hatchet and was found to be in
possession of a contraband item.
On Sept. 26, a Stephens County inmate,
Benjamin Arnold Birchfield, 30, of Tulsa,
was reprimanded for throwing trash out of
his cell into the pod area of the jail. Trustee inmates were sent to clean up the trash.
The next day, a detention officer was
transporting another inmate through the
area of Birchfield’s cell when he noticed
Birchfield pacing back and forth in his cell. He went to speak to
Birchfield about the trash incident that had occurred the day before.
Birchfield retrieved an orange shirt and handed it to the officer. He
told him he was giving it to him because he didn’t want to get into
more trouble.
The officer felt something sharp inside the shirt. He opened it and
found an object made from a rolled up book that had two sharpened
pieces from a broken plastic cup attached with string from a mop,
forming a hatchet-like device.
A note was wrapped around the object that said: “Your trustees
are openly threatening me…please don’t make me…you don’t know
where I been! Hatchetman out I surrender.”
Apparently, Birchfield is known around the jail as Hatchetman.
A search of Hatchetman’s cell revealed more pieces of the broken
plastic cup and a paperclip.
According to the police report, Birchfield has been in jail since July
on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Birchfield is being charged with possession of contraband in a jail
after former conviction of two or more felonies. He is being held on a
$25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 22, 2013.

Like true historic
adventure accounts?
The Bible has them.
Korah learned that
God’s power is greater
than his.
Korah complained
against Moses, but
God chose Moses to
lead Israel. Moses
tells him, “Therefore
you and all your
company are gathered
together against the
Lord” (read Numbers
16:16 in your Bible).
God takes it personally when we don’t honor His servants.
Moses was chosen to lead Israel, but the people grumbled.
They didn’t get what they wanted. We are no different than
Korah and his friends.
We don’t take responsibility to change ourselves, we keep
doing the same things, and when we’re caught or suffer, we
complain and blame others.
What happened to Korah? Read it for yourself in your
own Bible, Numbers 16:28-38. Imagine the horror of this
tragic event! Can history repeat itself? Yes!
Bible Says:

A woman in Florida got so excited after stealing
a family’s Apple technology that she decided to take
some selfi es of her own. She had stolen an iPad
and an iPod Touch out of their car while they were
visiting one of Florida’s regional parks. Apparently
not realizing that photos taken on an Apple device
will show up on the computer, her selfi es surfaced
on the family’s iCloud account two weeks later. All of
these pictures are able to be located geographically.
A middle-aged man was stopped by police as he
rode his horse down the streets of Colorado. Why?
He was seen hitting the horse, but told the police
there was a fl y on his head. Further investigation
revealed that he had a small gun, a pug (yes, you
understood correctly), and beer cans in tow. Not
surprisingly, he failed an intoxication test and was
charged with animal cruelty, possession of weapons,
and drunk riding.
Have you ever accidentally gotten high? Like,
you thought it was a normal brownie, or normal
mushrooms. But nope, turns out you’re absolutely
tripping. Good luck explaining that one to the
police. The only thing less convincing than that is…
”accidentally” growing marijuana on your property.
This is exactly what happened to a 73 year old man,
who claims he found the seeds in a random box and
decided to plant them. Lo and behold, up grows
some weed. The man showed no sign of being a
pot smoker, yet paid the $200 dollar ticket without
argument anyway. Hopefully he’ll stay away from
mystery seeds from now on.
How impatient do you get when waiting for your
food to microwave? Worse yet is when you fi nally
think it’s done, but the plate is a burning fi re disc
from the sun’s core and your food could have been
found in the fur of a frozen wooly mammoth from
the arctic. How mad would you get? Hopefully not
angry enough to use the microwave as a weapon, like
a guy in St. Louis. A 43 year old man and a 36 year
old man got into a heated argument over “personal
matters”, resulting in a knife being pulled and a
microwave oven being thrown. Both were admitted
to the hospital with serious forehead wounds. I
don’t remember these being part of the Easy Mac
directions???
We’ve all seen those movies about crazy people
who believe demons live in their house, right?
Terrifying stuff, but the demons are probably more
scared of you than you are of them. Just…grab a
big shoe. And kill all the fl ies so they have nothing
to eat. Oh. Maybe I’m thinking of something else,
something scarier. One guy in Arizona was so
freaked out he almost burnt down the house. With
his roommates still home, he started a fi re in his
bedroom closet where he believed they were hiding.
He used paint thinner, and is reported to have been
reciting Bible verses. He said he had planned to tell
the police but forgot, and he was admitted to the
hospital with burns on his feet. The important thing
is, the house is now 100% demon free.

A Rush Springs man thought he hit the narcotic jackpot, but boy, was he wrong. Eric Lee
Willoughby, 27, was dealt a bad hand when he decided to purchase meth at a Stephens County casino. Good thing he didn’t play poker.
A Stephens County deputy was on patrol Oct. 9 when he observed what appeared to be a
hand-to-hand transaction between two males in the casino parking lot. According to the affidavit, the area is a common place for the distribution of narcotics.
One of the men, later identified as Willoughby, entered the casino. The deputy requested
assistance and police went in the casino looking for the suspect.
They viewed surveillance tapes that showed Willoughby pull into the casino’s parking lot
and make a transaction with another male.
Police found Willoughby and requested identification. Willoughby told them it was in his
truck and police informed him that if he wanted to stay in the casino, he was going to have to
show them his ID. Willoughby kept putting his hands in the pocket of his hoodie.
The officers followed Willoughby outside to his vehicle and asked him about the transaction. He told them that the
other man owed him money and he had paid him back.
Police explained that the hand-to-hand transaction was consistent with narcotic distribution and asked to search
his truck. Willoughby agreed but continued to stick his hands in his pocket, prompting an officer to ask him to keep
his hands out of his pocket.
Willoughby ignored the officer’s request and continued to stick his hands in his pocket. An officer informed Willoughby that he was going to search him for weapons; in the pocket of Willoughby’s hoodie, the officer found a cigarette box with a piece of foil inside that contained a white crystal substance later identified as meth.
Willoughby told police there weren’t any more drugs in his truck, but he did have a revolver and rifle in his vehicle.
Willoughby is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of a firearm
during commission of a felony. His bond was set at $5,000 and he is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 11, 2013.

Oklahoma couple Elizabeth Pester, 33, and Mark Knapp,
48, have been jailed after they nearly starved their 3-year-old
daughter to death while they allegedly immersed themselves in
an online video game.
Second Life, an online 3d world where players can create an
entirely new virtual identity and then interact with other players
using that identity, became more than a game to Elizabeth
Pester and Mark Knapp.
It almost became a death sentence for the couple’s 3-year-old
daughter, who withered away while her parents spent the bulk
of their time on a computer, pretending to be a married couple in their new virtual world.
According to police, the problem began almost immediately after the child’s birth.
Investigators say DHS agents took the couple’s newborn into protective custody just a couple of
weeks after her birth. Case workers noted that Pester and Knapp had refused to spend much time with
the newborn, and the child was having feeding issues as a result.
In 2011, the child was returned to her parents in healthy condition, however it didn’t take long before
the feeding issue returned, and in a far more severe way.
In June, 2012, the little girl was taken to a local hospital where she weighed just 13 pounds and
appeared seriously malnourished. DHS responded by referring the child’s parents to a therapist who
would weigh the child on a weekly basis. That therapist saw the child just four times and weighed the
child twice over a five month period, according to court documents.
Pester and Knapp have been booked into the Tulsa County jail and charged with child abuse and
neglect. Bond has been set at $50,000 each.

An intoxicated Waurika man was arrested in Comanche while attempting to clean his car at a local car wash.
On Oct. 2, a Comanche police officer was dispatched to the car
wash because a man was there acting intoxicated; he was not able to
stand or walk straight, according to the affidavit.
When the officer arrived, she made contact with the subject, later
identified as Bobby D. Burr, 60. He was swaying from side and had
slurred speech.
He was unable to tell the officer why he was walking to a convenience store near the car wash. His vehicle was parked in a wash bay
and had two small dogs inside.
The officer attempted to perform field sobriety tests, but Burr was
so far gone that he couldn’t understand any of her commands.
After Burr failed the “one leg stand test” and “walk and turn test” miserably, the officer
placed him in custody.
She conducted an inventory of Burr’s vehicle and found a large bottle that contained several pills that Burr identified as Xanax. He said he took Clonopin for his heart and had taken
four Xanax throughout the day. Burr had nearly $1,500 in cash and 40 pills on his person.
During the booking process, the officer obtained Burr’s cell phone and found evidence of
what appeared to be evidence of Burr selling pills.
Burr is being charged with public intoxication and possession of a controlled dangerous
substance with intent to distribute after former conviction of a felony. His bond was set at
$10,000 and she is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 22, 2013.

Chickasha police went to serve warrants on a local man Sept. 20, but the
call ended up being anything but routine.
Just before 10 p.m. that day, officer
David Harper-Head was on patrol
when he saw Kenneth Powers, 36,
in an alleyway between Iowa Avenue
and Colorado Avenue. Powers was
standing near a bush, and HarperHead knew the area had a high burglary rate throughout the past few
months, so he parked in the alley to approach Powers.
Knowing Powers had several arrest warrants, Harper-Head
ordered him to put his hands behind his back. At first, Powers
complied, but when the officer was about to close the handcuff,
Powers lurched forward to knock the handcuffs out of HarperHead’s hands. Another officer on the scene stepped in front of
Powers to grab him, but Powers grabbed him instead, pulling
them both to the ground.
Harper-Head tried to break up the fight, but Powers hit him
in the leg, prompting the officer to use his Taser. When struck
with the Taser, Powers put his right hand in his sweatshirt and
refused to show both of his hands repeatedly. As a result, Harper-Head kept using the Taser until Powers complied.
Powers faces two charges of assault and battery on a police
officer, as well as resisting arrest. He had a warrant for knowingly concealing stolen property after failing to show up to a
court appearance.
Powers has court set for 1:30 p.m. Nov. 6. He remains in custody on bonds for both cases totaling $100,000.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A night he soon won’t forget
Rogelio Andaverde, a 34-year-old Texas man, was jailed Oct 10
after he allegedly faked his own kidnapping in an effort to dump
his wife for a night of partying.
According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, Andaverde
and his wife were home at around 10:30 p.m. that night when two
masked men broke into their home and kidnapped Andaverde at
gunpoint.
Investigators say the Sheriff’s Office launched a manhunt, but
called it off a few hours later when no leads developed on the case.
Andaverde arrived back home that morning, explaining to his
wife that his captors “just let him go.”
When officers arrived on the scene to interview Andaverde,
something about his explanation didn’t sound right to them.
Andaverde was taken into custody and interviewed again at the Sheriff’s Office.
He reportedly admitted to investigators that he fabricated the kidnapping because he
wanted to go out drinking with his friends.
“I don’t think his wife appreciated being kept until 4 or 5 in the morning, being interviewed
by the cops while her husband was out doing who knows what with who knows who,” said
Hidalgo County Sheriff, Guadalupe Trevino. “He’s going to have a lot of answering to do.”
Andaverde was booked into jail and charged with making a false report to police. He was
released after posting $5,000 bail.

Oklahoma County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a substitute
teacher after students reported she was intoxicated and passed
out in a classroom office at Millwood High School.
April Chamberlain, 30, was supposed to be acting as a substitute in a biology class. Students said she appeared disoriented
and used profanity. When students found Chamberlain asleep
in the office, they contacted a coach, who informed the principal.
The principal said after she repeatedly shouted and tapped
Chamberlain on the shoulder, the substitute woke up. The principal said Chamberlain had blood-shot eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol.
When a deputy arrived, she saw an open bottle of Canadian Whisky in Chamberlain’s purse. The deputy also noted Chamberlain kept slurring and was unsteady on her feet.
Chamberlain was arrested and booked into the Oklahoma County jail for public
drunkenness.

A Chickasha man’s plan to empty a local pharmacy landed him felony robbery
charges Sept. 27.
Around 6 p.m. that day, a masked man went into the Grand Care Pharmacy to
demand prescription medication from employees. He implied he was a veteran
and told the employees no one would get hurt if they gave him what he wanted.
He ended up getting more than 1,600 pills during the robbery.
Employees described the robber as a white male with red hair and a full beard
who was wearing a dark mask, dark pants and a blue button-down long sleeve
shirt. He was carrying a backpack, wearing rubber gloves and a hat with a Chickasha “C” on it, they said.
A witness saw the man, James Owens, 32, unmasked seconds before robbing
the pharmacy. Surveillance footage showed Owens was in the store earlier in the
day, but wearing a different outfit. He was acting strangely and appeared to be
scanning the interior of the pharmacy, police said.
Subsequent interviews with witnesses, Owens’ landlord and his mother all revealed Owens matched the
description of the pharmacy robber. The pharmacy employees identified him in a photo lineup, according
to the affidavit.
On Sept. 30, officers went to Owens’ residence to talk to him, and Owens consented to a search of the
home. In the house, they found four spoons with methamphetamine residue and four syringes, which
were in Owens’ backpack. Owens admitted to using “dope” recently but said he did not know the paraphernalia was in his backpack. He was arrested on a drug possession complaint.
Owens faces charges of first-degree robbery, possession of methamphetamine and possession of paraphernalia. He is due in court at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 6. Owens remains in custody on a $100,000 bond.

burglary 2nd degree ordered to appear or pay poss controlled substance public drunk no drivers license
A Chickasha woman’s drug operation got busted after a neighbor called
a noise complaint on her friends Oct.
12.
Just before 1 a.m. that day, officer
Cliff Walker went to the 1200 block of
West Oregon on a disturbance report.
When Walker arrived, the caller said
his neighbors were being loud and
that the door on his garage had been
moved.
Walker knocked on the neighbor’s
door and spoke with a man, who was
not arrested. When the man opened the door, Walker immediately smelled marijuana inside. The man said he didn’t know
what happened in the backyard, but said some of his friends,
including Amber Boswell, 19, had been back there earlier.
Because of the smell, Walker said he had probable cause to
enter the house, detain everyone and ask for a search warrant.
The man then squealed and said one of his friends, another
man who wasn’t arrested, had the drugs on him.
Walker placed the friend in investigative detention, but
found no contraband in his pockets. Boswell, his girlfriend,
went outside to sit with him during the search.
The first man showed Walker a tin in the house, which had
a brick of marijuana inside, as well as various paraphernalia
and an unlabeled pill bottle. Boswell’s boyfriend said he did
not know who owned either.
After Walker told the group all of them could be charged if
they denied ownership, Boswell, standing up for her boyfriend,
stood up and said all the marijuana belonged to her. She also
provided a written statement indicating she was responsible.
Walker later determined the marijuana brick weighed 71
grams, and the pill bottle had several small bags inside.
Boswell was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. She posted a $2,000 bond and will next appear in court at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 6.

More than 100,000 children and youth in the
U.S. foster care system are awaiting permanent
families. National Adoption Month is a time to
raise awareness about the adoption of children
and youth from foster care.
The Children’s Bureau in partnership with
AdoptUSKids and Child Welfare Information
Gateway sponsors the initiative each November
as a way to focus public attention on the urgent
need for adoptive families for children and
youth waiting in foster care for a permanent
family. This year’s focus, “Partnering for Permanency,” builds on the social media theme
from last year. A special web page on Information Gateway’s website helps child welfare
professionals, prospective adoptive parents, and youth partner for permanency. The website
contains resources, stories, and videos on topics such as getting started with social media,
how to build a recruitment campaign, and how social media impacts child welfare and
adoption. The website can be found at http://www.childwelfare.gov/adoption/nam.
