hruby
Alan Hruby, 19, has allegedly admitted to killing his family because his father cut him off financially.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Hruby was
questioned the day after his father’s, mother’s, and sister’s
bodies were discovered by a housekeeper on Oct. 13.
Hruby allegedly admitted to investigators that he entered
his parents’ house the evening of Oct. 9 and found his mother, Joy Hruby, in the kitchen. He then took his father’s gun
he had stolen earlier and shot her once. When he saw she
was possibly still alive, he shot her a second time.
Shortly thereafter, his sister, Katherine, came in from
washing her car. He said he waited for her to enter the kitchen and shot her once, believing she was killed immediately.
About an hour after that, Hruby’s father, John, came
home. He waited for John to enter the kitchen and shot him
once, but believing he was still alive, Hruby shot him again.
Hruby then admitted to investigators that he removed “specific items” because “he did not
want to be caught and he disposed of the items.”
Hruby was booked into the Stephens County jail without bond. His first preliminary hearing conference is scheduled for Dec. 17 at 9 am.

Doesn’t the Bible Say “An
Eye for an Eye, and a Tooth
for a Tooth”?
Jesus said, “You have
heard the law that says the
punishment must match the
injury: ‘An eye for an eye,
and a tooth for a tooth.’ But
I say, do not resist an evil
person! If someone slaps
you on the right cheek, offer
the other cheek also. If you
are sued in court and your
shirt is taken from you, give
your coat, too.” (Matthew
5:38-40)
God’s purpose behind
this law was an expression
of mercy. The law was given
to judges and said, in effect, “Make the punishment fit the crime.” It was
not a guide for personal revenge. These laws were given to limit vengeance
and help the court administer punishment that was neither to strict nor
too lenient. Some people, however, were using this phrase to justify their
vendettas against others. People still try to excuse their acts of revenge by
saying, “I was just doing to him what he did to me.”

Never pass out on a bench outside of a bar… Because the police
just might find you!
Duncan man Benjamin Joseph
Copeland, 21, spent a drunken
night in a jail cell after police found
him passed out drunk in front of a
bar on October 8.
According to the affidavit, Duncan police officers went to check
on Copeland around 2:34 a.m., because he had been passed out on the
bench for quite some time. When
an officer approached Copeland,
he noticed that the man smelled
strongly of alcohol. When Copeland
came to, he was unsteady on his feet. He told the officer in thick,
slurred speech that he had consumed a “few drinks” and that he was
waiting on a friend to pick him up.
Dispatch advised the officers that Copeland had a warrant out for
his arrest for failure to appear and possession of marijuana.
An officer placed the man under arrest and conducted a search of
Copeland’s person. He found two baggies containing three different
kinds of pills. Copeland identified them as morphine, Percocet and
Xanax. He also found a Swisher Sweet cigarillos baggie. Inside the
bag was a brown cigarette containing a green leafy substance.
As the officer pulled the cigarette out of the bag, Copeland said,
“shhhhh,” as if he wanted the officer to keep the items hidden from
the other officers.
Sorry, Copeland.
The green substance field-tested positive for marijuana.
Copeland was transported to jail.
He is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and public intoxication. Copeland was released on a $5,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on December 3, 2014.

The term “outgunned” doesn’t quite do this story justice.
Derrick Mosley strolled into a discount gun store with a baseball bat, smashed a glass display case and tried to steal a firearm. Yes, he tried to rob a gun shop with a baseball bat. What
happened next? The manager pulled out a gun of his own,
pointed it at Derrick and kept him in the crosshairs until the
police arrived. Don’t be too hard on yourself Derrick. Guns in
a gun store? Nobody could have anticipated that.
A customer at Applebee’s handed a waitress her own stolen
driver’s license in an attempt to order alcohol. The culprit was
a 26-year-old woman, so she didn’t need to use a fake ID to
buy her margarita anyway, but we’ll set that aside. Kudos to
the waitress, who remained calm, told the customer she was
off to get her drink and called the police instead.
Getaway cars are just for the movies. Real criminals use
getaway donkeys. A trio of Columbian robbers in the exotic
sounding town Juan de Acosta loaded stolen rum, rice, tuna
and sardines onto Xavi, a 10-year-old donkey. It was all going to plan, but then the donkey starting “heehawing”. Loudly.
The racket alerted police to the robbery and the burglars ran.
A would-be lumberjack was casually strolling down a suburban street with an axe in hand when he happened across a
bike, which was chained around a tree. The axeman wanted
to acquire this bike for himself. So he started to chop down
the tree, blissfully oblivious to the stares of passers-by. The
bemused spectators chased him away several times, but the
lumberjack was determined. After a period of about seven
minutes, he managed to fell the tree. Unfortunately, the thief
was chased away again before he could claim his prize.
Joey Miller and Matthew McNelly concocted an ingenious
disguise before trying to break into an apartment. Well, we use
the term “ingenious” very loosely. Matthew and Joey spurned
more traditional disguises like masks or balaclavas, instead
choosing to draw on their own faces with permanent markers.
Here’s the thing about permanent marker. It’s extremely difficult to erase. So when the pair was pulled over by police after
the bungled break-in, they were easily recognizable. The stunt
earned Joey and Matthew the nickname “dumb and dumber”

19-year-old Cameron Patrick Kennedy was arrested September 27 after
he allegedly attacked his girlfriend in
a church parking lot and told police
there were drugs in her vehicle. The
drugs actually belonged to him.
On September 27, around 5:26 p.m.,
a Duncan officer was sent to check out
a domestic in progress in the parking
lot of a church at Second and Oak. The
caller told dispatch that a woman was
trying to get away from a male. When
the officer arrived on scene, a woman
exited the driver’s side of the vehicle
and appeared visibly upset. She had
minor cuts, including a minor cut on her right hand and red marks
around her neck.
The woman told the officer that her boyfriend, Kennedy, was had
been holding her in the vehicle. She said she had been trying to get
away from him and make her get out of the vehicle.
Kennedy told officers he didn’t hurt his girlfriend. He also told
them that there were drugs in the vehicle.
An officer asked the woman if there was anything illegal in her
vehicle. She said no and gave officers permission to search. Police
found two bags containing paraphernalia including cut straws and
plastic baggies. The items had a clear crystal residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. The bags also contained men’s
clothing, and Kennedy admitted that the bags were his.
Officers placed the Chickasha man under arrest and transported
him to jail.
Kennedy is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and domestic abuse. He was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled
to appear in court on November 26, 2014.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Fall is upon us, and with fall,
comes the annual increase in deer
activity and movement.
While it is true that car-deer accidents happen year round, there
is no doubt that those numbers increase dramatically in the fall
and winter months. Deer go through their mating season, called
the rut, during those months, and as winter settles over the state,
food sources become more scarce. Both of those things have deer
moving more, and when deer move, they cross roadways, making
the odds of a driver encountering them much higher.
If you’ve driven in Oklahoma for any period of time, you’ve
seen deer. You’ve seen them beside the road, running across it,
and laying dead on or near it. Car-deer accidents can be deadly
not just to the deer, but to the human occupants of the vehicles
that strike them. Since State Troopers investigate those accidents,
it makes sense that we would want to put out some tips to try and
prevent those type of accidents.
First, be conscious of the time of day you are driving. Deer
tend to move more at dawn, dusk, and nighttime hours. Since a lot
of the motoring public are going to and from work around dawn
and dusk, this is when we see most of the car-deer accidents. When
traveling at these times, make sure that you are paying attention
to not just the roadway in front of you, but the side of the road,
especially the areas between the road and the fences. If you see one
of those deer crossing signs, take heed. Those signs are put up in
areas that historically are high car-deer accident corridors.
If you are traveling in a rather open area, and there is a neck
of trees that comes up to the road, or any other type of cover, be
alert! Deer like to use cover to travel, and will use these areas to
approach roadway crossings. Be aware of your surroundings! Pay
attention to the vehicle in front of you. They may need to slow
quickly for deer, and you don’t want to rear-end them! If you do
see a deer crossing the road, or even just standing off to the side
of the roadway....reduce your speed immediately! They can be
unpredictable when spooked, and may just run right in front of
you instead of away. Use this rule of thumb: Where there is one
deer that you see, there is almost always another you don’t! Be
conscious of the ones that you may not see; just because you don’t
see them, doesn’t mean they aren’t there!
Following these steps, and being a safe and courteous driver,
even to our animal friends, will greatly reduce the chances that
you will have an unfortunate and possibly harmful encounter
with them. Lets leave the harvesting of deer to the sportsmen and
women out there! As always, thanks for reading, buckle up, and
please drive safe.

A Marlow man knew exactly why he was pulled over when a deputy stopped him on October 3. He almost hit the deputy’s patrol car
head on.
According to the affidavit, a Stephens County deputy was on patrol
around 12:39 p.m. when he saw a vehicle traveling toward him on 9
Mile Road. The vehicle was driving in the middle of the road, and the
deputy had to drive into the grass to avoid a head-on collision. He
turned around and stopped the vehicle near the intersection of 9 Mile
Road and Caddo Road.
The driver, James Taylor Brown, 22, appeared to be very nervous.
He told the deputy, “I’m guessing you’re stopping me for almost hitting you.”
The smell of marijuana wafting out of Brown’s vehicle probably didn’t help either.
The deputy noticed that Brown’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He also saw a green leafy
substance in Brown’s lap. The deputy grabbed the substance, and it definitely smelled like
weed. When he told Brown he believed the substance was marijuana, Brown told him he was
correct. He added that there was more weed in the center console.
The deputy asked Brown when he had last smoked marijuana. The man said it had only
been an hour or two.
The deputy administered sobriety tests, and they revealed that Brown was definitely not
sober.
Brown is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs and
possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was released on a $1,500 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on December 12, 2014.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Dion H: Hell yea he death penalty. He killed 3 people. Would you want
him on the streets with you.
Nikki B: Even if he was mad at his dad, why kill the entire family?? He
robbed an innocent 17 year old child of her life!! Yes he deserves the death
penalty!! An eye for an eye! Just my opinion, of course.
Holly P: Yes!!! He was greedy about money so I’m going to be greedy
with my tax dollars. Death penalty all the way.
Tonya F: It’s really sad to think that a 19 yr old has no ‘redeemable’
qualities but I’d have to say, he needs to pay the ultimate price for what he
did.....this wasn’t done in a fit of rage - he thought this out, planned it out
and then went and partied afterwards....that is just pure cold hearted evil
right there !!
Corey W: Life in prison..we cannot kill acording to the bible..but thats
just my belief..not trying to push that on anybody else..but life in prison
would be worse than being put to sleep? Am i right?
Tanna R: f you believe in the bible, it includes eternity in Hell. I think
Hell is a worse place than a building with a/c, 3 meals a day, tv, and xbox
paid with taxpayers money.
Stephanie B: Yes he deserves the death penalty but he will sit on death
row and milk tax payers for all their money.....he should die in the manner
he killed his family
Heather P: I think if his remaining family members are alright with him
getting the death penalty then go ahead with it.
Amanda J: Yes, any son who is willing to kill his parents and sister for
money should definitely be put to death.
Laura J: Definitely deserves the death penalty. He killed three people
plus other crimes. No regard for human lives or respect for family members.
An eye for an eye. Don’t believe this guy could ever be helped by anything.
Vanessa H: Anyone that is going to murder his mom, dad, and sister
them goes to a football game n has fun, yes he need the death penalty! Ppl
get mad but don’t kill your whole family. He confesses like ya I did it so
what.
Dalton J: Killing people doesn’t prove that killing people is wrong. Get
all the non-violent drug offenders out of jail and into rehab and we will
have more resources and more personnel to deal with monsters like this
and make sure they are punished for a very long. The death penalty is an
easy out for these people.
Sarah B: I personally live in duncan & i think it’s an excellent resort for
his behavior.. How could you kill your own FAMILY and have no remorse
for it!
If you know the FULL story he went to the ou texas after commiting these
murders. He posted pictures on instagram at the game smiling and having
a good time like nothing ever happened right after killing his family! I’m
sorry but why give compassion to someone who has none themselves.
Brenda W: I am usually the first one to say let them die in the same
manner they did to their victims, for some reason when I look at the pic of
this young troubled person I don’t get that feeling, just don’t know why.
Ana J: I don’t agree with the death penalty,no life is ours to take....life in
prison,no chance of parole.and let me add what a horrible human this boy
is.
Brett T: This is not only his fault but also his parents fault. They raised
a spoiled ass brat for a kid, probably very little discipline, and when they
finally cut him off this happened. Sorry for the family and the ones who
were murdered in cold blood. Yes he deserves the death penalty, I honestly
believe its his way or no way so he will kill again.
Elana F: How can you blame his parents for him being a murderer? At 19
y/o he knows right from wrong and made his own choices smh
Kristina R: Putting the blame on the parents is such a moronic thing
to do. He and his sister were raised the same, she wasn’t a criminal. She
was actually a well-liked, good kid, all around happy soul. People can be
raised by picture perfect parents and turn out to be worthless beings, and
worthless druggie parents can raise a kid horribly and the kid turn out to
be a wonderful success. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it
drink. I guess you’d have to know them to make an accurate comment.
Andy R: Depends on his mood at the time. Crime of passion, possible
abuse, mental instability, or even insanity? Let think about it before we immediately start saying, “oh yes, yes, yes. Lets kill him.”
Here’s a question for you...
Alan Hruby, the son of a newspaper publisher, has allegedly confessed to killing his father,
mother and sister. John Hruby, his wife Tinker
and their 17-year-old daughter Katherine were
all found dead inside their Duncan home by a
housekeeper on Oct. 13.
Last year, John Hruby turned his son in for using his grandmother’s credit card and charging
nearly $5,000 during a trip to Europe.
Alan Hruby is on probation and a freshman at
OU, but he’s now in Stephens County jail.
If Alan Hruby is found guilty of this crime, do you think the death
penalty is the appropriate punishment?

Chickasha woman Mellissa Renee Periman, 38, ran
her vehicle into a house on September 30, then drove
away, bumper dragging and all. She may have had one
too many drinks. Allegedly, of course.
Chickasha police officers were dispatched to the 600
block of Flanders around 2:10 a.m. in response to a “vehicle colliding with the residence,” according to the affidavit. En route, an officer was advised that the suspect
had left the scene.
He saw the vehicle, driven by Periman, pull up to a
stop sign on Pondridge Road. The officer noticed the
driver’s side part of the bumper was loose and being
dragged behind the SUV. He followed the vehicle and
pulled it over in the 1700 block of Country Club Road.
When he told Periman he pulled her over because she
was identified as being involved in a collision, she denied being involved in a crash.
Yes — messed up bumper and all.
While he was speaking with Periman, the officer smelled the odor of alcohol. He asked the
woman how much alcohol she had had. She said she had had a few drinks, but it had been
awhile. It must have not been that long before she was pulled over, because Periman didn’t
do too well on sobriety tests.
Well actually, after doing poorly on some of the tests, she asked the officer if she had to
continue the tests. He told her no and placed her under arrest.
During an inventory of Periman’s vehicle, the officer found an empty 16-ounce can of beer
and a partially full can of beer in the console. The can was cold to the touch. There was also
another unopened can in a case in the backseat — it was the only beer left in the case.
Periman is being charged with malicious injury to property over $1,000, driving a motor
vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, leaving scene of accident involving damage and
transporting an opened container of beer. She was released on a $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 5, 2014.

A 52-year-old Chickasha woman was locked up behind
bars for her un-neighborly ways on the evening of October 7.
The crime? Calling his neighbor’s wife a whore, saying disturbing comments about the neighbor’s daughter and yelling
obscenities for the whole neighborhood to hear. Of course,
she believed everyone was actually out to get her.
According to the police report, a Chickasha officer responded to a call about an intoxicated person in the 1500 block of
W. Dakota Avenue. When he arrived, it was obvious who the
intoxicated person was. The officer saw a man holding down
Pamela Sue Freeman.
The officer tried to pick Freeman up, but she started pulling
away, cursing and yelling. She also smelled strongly of alcohol. He placed her in handcuffs, but Freeman said she wasn’t
going to walk, and she threw herself to the ground.
The officer picked her up and took her to the car, but she
refused to sit in the backseat. She then twisted the handcuffs around the officer’s hands and
started pulling on his fingers.
Eventually, he was able to get her in the car — even if that involved putting her in one side
and pulling her through the other.
The man told the officer that Freeman walked into his yard, yelling and cursing at him
and his family. She threatened to kick his wife’s teeth in, and she started yelling derogatory
comments about his family. The man’s wife recorded the confrontation, and the officer could
clearly hear Freeman yelling, “Your wife’s a whore!” Among other things.
The man said Freeman stepped toward him, so he took her to the ground and held her
there until police arrived.
Freeman told the officer the man pulled her from her property and held her down. She also
said his wife kicked her in the face, even though there were no visible marks on her face. She
also said in very slurred speech that the Chickasha Police Department “has it out for her.”
She continued to cuss and yell on the way to jail, and she even tried to run from police once
at the jail. She didn’t get far.
Freeman is being charged with disturbing the peace, threatening to perform an act of violence and obstructing an officer. She was released on a $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 7, 2014.

This summer, an undercover OSBI Internet Crimes
Against Children Unit agent downloaded images containing
child pornography on a Cement man’s computer. That
opened an investigation that concluded Oct. 9 with the arrest
of Ronald Chase Williams, 25.
OSBI agents and members of the state ICAC Task Force
including officers from Stillwater Police Department,
Grady County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oklahoma Attorney
General’s Office served a search warrant at Williams’ home at
2762 County Street 2760 in Cement. A preview of computer
devices inside the home revealed images containing child
pornography.
Agents arrested Williams and booked him into the Grady
County jail for distribution of child pornography, possession
of child pornography, aggravated possession of child
pornography (more than 100 images), and violation of the Oklahoma Computer Crimes Act.

An Oklahoma City woman and her boyfriend were arrested after a
struggle with a Tuttle man, because she stole his laptop after he took
back the money he paid her for sex.
According to the affidavit, a Tuttle officer went to the 200 block
of Worley Creek Lane due to a burglary and assault. The victim told
them the suspects’ vehicle had just left his house.
The officer pulled the vehicle over in the 3400 block of East SH 37.
He made contact with the driver, 35-year-old Minh Bong Pham, and
20-year-old Erin Lorane Gallagher. He asked them what they were
doing at the residence. Gallagher said she was trying to get money
the victim owed her and return his laptop she had stolen.
The officer placed her under arrest and found a glass pipe in her
purse. Gallagher identified the white residue inside the pipe as
“crack.”
Pham said he took Gallagher to the house to have sex with the
victim. He stayed in the car, and after about an hour, she ran out of
the house and they drove to a nearby gas station. She later realized
she left her phone at the residence. They went back to the house and
entered through an open door. While Gallagher was trying to locate
her phone, Pham said he hit the man several times with a tire iron.
Gallagher also took the man’s computer.
The couple was taken to jail.
At the police department, Gallagher told police she met the victim
on the website Backpage, and they agreed to have sex for $500. After
she and the victim had sex, she said he took back the money. She left the house but later realized she left her phone at the residence. When they went back to get the phone, she said she
took the man’s laptop.
Later that day, she said the man told her she would giver her the money if she brought his
laptop back. He was supposed to leave the money in the mailbox, but it was empty when they
returned. Gallagher said they then left the residence.
Pham is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His bond was
set at $30,000.
Gallagher is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. She was
released on a $2,000 bond.
They are both scheduled to appear in court on November 5, 2014.

Man arrested for stealing Cowley
County, Kansas, Sheriff’s car
Arkansas City Police arrested 26-year-old Derek
Shrewsberry for allegedly stealing a patrol car.
Sheriff’s deputies stopped the car and found that a
passenger in the car, Derek Shrewsberry, had an active
warrant for a probation violation. The deputy also
observed drug paraphernalia in the back seat.
Shrewsberry was arrested and handcuffed. He was
placed in the patrol car and seat belted in.
As the deputy was removing the front seat passenger,
he saw his patrol vehicle backing up and yelled for
Shrewsberry to stop. Shrewsberry left in the patrol
vehicle.
Approximately six miles south of the original
stop location, Shrewsberry passed another deputy
responding to the area. The deputy turned around and the suspect abandoned the patrol
vehicle on foot.
Authorities spent several hours looking for Shrewsberry, and officers arrested him later
in Arkansas City. He was transported to the Cowley County Jail.
In addition to the arrest on the probation violation warrant, Shrewsberry was wanted on
an Arkansas City Municipal Court warrant for failure to appear. He now faces additional
charges of aggravated escape from custody, felony theft, criminal carry of a weapon and
driving while license is cancelled or suspended as well as other traffic violations.
The driver of the original stopped vehicle was arrested for driving on a suspended license
and no insurance. Another passenger was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.
