37-year-old John Garza and 43-year-old Arley Nemo (no relation to the fish) skillfully created tools to aid in their escape.
The alleged tools included a metal item and a toothbrush that the jailbirds used to access untied rebars between the Newport News Jail Annex cell’s walls.
The two Virginia jail escapees literally tunneled through their cell wall and climbed high fences for a romantic meal together at IHOP.
IHOP’s philosophy includes “coming as you are,” which is just what Garza and Nemo did. With clearly no fear of getting caught, the two fugitives sat in that Hampton IHOP thinking they would get away with it.
Garza and Nemo managed to spend the night together before ultimately getting caught the next morning.
While the two were at IHOP, the bozos were obviously recognized. After Hampton police got the tip, Garza and Nemo were apprehended shortly after.
