ALLEGED POTEAU STALKER INDICTED
Rodney Joe Smith. Stalking; Evidence Tampering.
The indictment alleges that between
Sept. 1, 2022, to Sept 18, 2022, Smith,
45, of Poteau, stalked the victim with the
intent to kill, injure, harass and intimidate
her. Smith allegedly installed a GPS tracker inside the victim’s rear bumper without
her knowledge and would track and confront her. Smith threw rocks at her vehicle, cracked her windshield, followed her
and falsely reported her for reckless driving.
Smith is also alleged to have further harassed her via phone. He
left harassing messages and sometimes used an app to disguise
the phone number, making it appear as if his calls were coming from
the Tulsa Police Department.
In addition, he created fake Facebook accounts that purported to
be the victim and publicly shared her home and work addresses.
He also created a fake profile on a dating app purporting to be the
victim, and the victim began receiving phone calls, texts, and unsolicited images from men who claimed to have met her online.
The indictment further alleges Smith pulled down the outside
cameras that were part of the victim’s home security system. His
laptop also revealed he had conducted a Google search on how to
enter a home undetected.
According to the indictment, law enforcement further located a
trail camera, GPS tracker, the victim’s work identification card, night
vision goggles, binoculars, a brown wig, a laptop which had a Google search for the security radio frequency where the victim worked
and a search for how to disable a particular vehicle, a cell phone,
notepads with the victim’s personal information, Viagra pills, and
a ghillie suit, which is a type of camouflage clothing. Then, while
detained, Smith allegedly directed another individual take his cell
phone to Verizon and, in a phone call, requested an employee remotely wipe the contents of his electronic devices and delete his
iCloud account in an attempt to destroy evidence.
The FBI, Muscogee Nation Lighthorse Police Department and
Glenpool Police Department are the investigative agencies.

AROUND THE STATE
Armstrong won’t be able to use the “Get out
of Jail Free” card for this one.
On November 26, around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired at a
home near 4th Pl. and 91st E. Ave. after a
family game night turned violent.
The caller said John Armstrong chased
them down the street with a gun and fired a
shot at the caller and her father. Officers arrived and took Armstrong into custody.
The investigation revealed that the family
was drinking alcohol and playing Monopoly
when a fight broke out between John Armstrong and his stepfather. After knocking over
the Monopoly board and turning over furniture, another family member told
Armstrong and his stepfather to take the fight outside.
During the fight outside, Armstrong suffered a cut to his head, then pulled
out a pistol and chased his stepfather and stepsister down the street at gunpoint. Armstrong admitted to firing one round.
Officers found Monopoly money and game pieces scattered around the
living room. Neighbors reported hearing a gunshot from the street. Officers
believe Armstrong hid the pistol before they arrived, and the gun was not
located.
He was arrested for Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

FEDERAL JURY CONVICTS KREBS RESIDENT OF MULTIPLE COUNTS
OF AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ABUSE AND SEXUAL ABUSE OF A MINOR
Roy Lee Roberts, Jr, age 37, of Krebs, was
found guilty by a federal jury of two counts of
Aggravated Sexual Abuse in Indian Country
and one count of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in
Indian Country.
The jury trial began with testimony on Monday, November 14, 2022, and concluded on
Wednesday, November 16, 2022, with the
guilty verdicts.
During the trial, the United States presented evidence that Roberts sexually abused
two minors in 2017-2018. One victim was
under the age of 12 and the second victim
was between the ages of 12 and 16. Both
victims appeared in Court, detailed the abuse
they endured, and clearly identified Roberts as their abuser.
The guilty verdicts were the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau
of Investigation and the Pittsburg County Sheriff’s Office.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma
prosecuted the case because Roberts in this case is a member of a federally
recognized Indian tribe and the crimes occurred in Pittsburg County, within
the boundaries of the Choctaw Nation Reservation, and within the Eastern
District of Oklahoma.
The Honorable David Cleveland Joseph, U.S. District Judge from the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, temporarily assigned to the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the trial and ordered the completion of a presentence report. Sentencing will be scheduled
following completion of the report. Roberts was remanded to the custody of
the United States Marshal pending the imposition of sentencing.

With a variety of new social media applications, online forums, and chat
rooms increasingly being used by young people, the risk of children and
teenagers being contacted by online predators continues to rise. Young
people may participate in in-game chat conversations or other online conversations with people they believe to be their peers. However, child predators often use these forums to masquerade as young people. Although
these conversations may start innocently, grooming can be a gradual process that increases in severity until sexually explicit requests are sent to
the unsuspecting child.
If you have children in your home or under your supervision, it is important to be aware of their online activity and any changes in their behavior.
It can also be helpful to have conversations with children regarding online
safety and protecting their privacy. Letting children in your care know that
they can always talk to you regarding concerning interactions can also be
a key step in prevention, as many predators warn potential victims to stay
silent due to a fear of not being believed.
The OSBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit works diligently
to protect Oklahoma’s children, but we never want to see your name or
the name of your loved one come across our desk. To help us protect your
children, you can learn more about the warning signs of online grooming
and how to discuss online safety with children you love at this link from InternetMatters.org: https://www.internetmatters.org/.../protect-your-child/.

BAMBOOZLED
A Checotah couple is facing multiple
charges of embezzlement for allegedly
misappropriating funds from several different people throughout the years of 2021
and 2022.
According to court documents, 56-yearold Victor Vince Dowling and 53-year-old
Julie Ellen Dowling duped different people
on 14 different occasions over the course
of two years.
If convicted, they each face up to 72
years in prison and over $100,000 in restitution, according to an Attorney General
O’Connor press release.
According to investigators, the Dowlings,
who owned V&J Steel Buildings LLC, took
a combined $116,922.75 from 14 victims
for construction projects they either never
started or began but did not complete.
The investigation, conducted by the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection
Unit, uncovered alleged fraud dating back
to November 2020.
Attorney General O’Connor suspects
that, because of the Dowlings’ long-term
pattern of alleged fraudulent behavior, there are additional victims.
“If you have done business with V&J Steel Buildings LLC or are
trying to get in touch with the Dowlings regarding work they have
not finished, please contact our office,” said General O’Connor.
“Through these constant prosecutions, we want to make Oklahoma an unattractive marketplace for con men and women. My office
will continue to hold those accountable who try to take advantage
of Oklahomans.”
Consumers who believe they have been a victim of V&J Steel
Buildings or the Dowlings should file a complaint by calling the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Unit at 1-833-681-1895.
Their bonds were set at $40,000, and they are both scheduled to
appear in court on December 20, 2022.

Joseph Goetz’s alleged attempt to rob a York, Pennsylvania, bank met with some
snags. Cops say the fi rst teller he tried to rob fainted and the next two had no more
cash in their drawers. Fed up, Goetz stormed out, threatening to write an angry letter
to the bank.
A German bank robber sent mocking emails to local police, ridiculing their eff orts to
arrest him. First, he let them know they had his age, build, and accent wrong. Then he
corrected their announcement that he’d escaped on foot; no, he had a getaway car!
The cops got the last word in, though, when they arrested the guy a few hours later.
They used his email to trace him.
After a man kicked in the front door of a Texas home at 3:30 a.m., the resident fl ed
and called police. When cops arrived, they were surprised to fi nd that the intruder
hadn’t stolen a thing. Police found the man in the bathroom, enjoying a warm bath.
Robby Rose lost his fi rst-place medal and was charged with a felony after it was
discovered that he’d cheated in a Texas fi shing tournament by stuffi ng a one-pound
weight down the throat of a bass he’d caught. Offi cials became suspicious when they
placed Rose’s fi sh in a tank and it sank to the bottom.
According to the bus driver, it was a brutal, unprovoked attack. A woman got on his
bus and assaulted him with a half-eaten banana. “I had banana all over me,” he insisted. “On my tie, my shirt, and my eye.” The woman explained that the driver had almost
hit her car and that when she entered the bus to rationally discuss the matter, the banana slipped … right into his tie, his shirt, his eye … The court may not have believed
that, but it did believe her when she argued that it was “unreasonable that a banana
could cause this much damage.” They slapped her with a fi ne of only about $100.
Police in Pico Rivera, California, had an easy time pinning a four-year-old murder on
Anthony Garcia. That’s because he pinned it on himself—with an elaborate tattoo on
his chest, depicting the killing. Cops noticed the incriminating ink when taking Garcia’s
mug shot for a petty crime. The tattoo revealed all the details of the night, from the
Christmas lights and bent streetlamp near the liquor store where the body was found to
the image of an angry helicopter—Garcia’s nickname was Chopper—machine-gunning
the victim.
James Rhyne of Memphis was charged with forgery after he handed a waitress a
$100 bill. The waitress knew something was funny with the money: Instead of the portly
visage of Ben Franklin, it was the star of the $5 bill, Abe Lincoln, who was staring back
at her.
A woman in Somerset, Massachusetts, was arrested for breaking and entering. But
she was quickly caught thanks to her ankle bracelet … the one fi tted with a GPS system … that she had gotten from the police … for being on probation from an earlier
breaking-and-entering case.

HASKELL COUNTY DEPUTY INVOLVED IN
OFFICER-INVOLVED-SHOOTING
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is investigating an officer-involved-shooting involving a deputy from the
Haskell County Sheriff’s Office. Based on the
initial investigation, this is what is known at
this time:
• On December 7, 2022 at approximately
1 p.m., a Haskell County deputy responded
to a residence on East Highway 9 in Stigler
after a 9-1-1 call was made from the residence.
• The caller reported that her husband was threatening to kill her and was
loading a gun at that moment.
• When the deputy arrived at the home, he was met by the female caller.
• The deputy noticed the husband, Charlie Brown (9/4/1960), down the
hall with a long gun pointed at the direction of the female and the deputy.
• The deputy moved the female out of the way and fired his service weapon, hitting Brown twice.
• Brown was transported to the hospital in Arkansas where he was treated
and released.
• After his release, Brown was arrested and booked into the Haskell County Jail.
• Brown is currently facing one charge of Feloniously Pointing a Firearm
and one charge Assault on an Officer.
The investigation is ongoing. There is no additional information to be released at this time.

Giving the finger
Deputies assigned to the Patrol Operations Bureau have
arrested a man for a robbery that occurred at a Chase Bank
in unincorporated Seminole, Pinellas County, Florida.
On October 10, 2022 at approximately 1:28 p.m., the
suspect entered the Chase Bank located at 10755 Starkey
Road in unincorporated Seminole, Fla. Once inside the
bank, the suspect, later identified as 56-year-old Paul Sinclair, approached the bank teller, implied he had a gun and
demanded cash. Sinclair was given $120 in cash.
Detectives say the suspect then fled from the bank.
Through various investigative techniques, deputies located Sinclair less than 10 minutes later at 8727 Bardmoor Place in Seminole,
where he was taken into custody.
Detectives interviewed Sinclair, who admitted to the robbery and to putting his
hand under his shirt to form the shape of a gun while demanding cash from the
teller.
Sinclair was charged with one count of robbery and was transported to the Pinellas County Jail.
The investigation continues.
AROUND THE NATION
SINCLAIR
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless
