MURDER
IN
MCLOUD
A couple from McLoud is in custody for the murder of
a missing man that was staying at their home.
Deputies from the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) arrested Jason Dean Cornett, 47, and
Elizabeth Dee Cornett, 45, on march 1 in connection
with the murder of David Orr. Jason Cornett is facing
charges of Murder in the First Degree and Desecration
of a Human Corpse. Elizabeth Cornett is being charged
with Accessory to Murder in the First Degree and Desecration of a Human Corpse. The charges were filed in
Pottawatomie County District Court.
Orr was last heard from by a family member on January 16, 2021. At that time, he was staying with the
Cornetts at 21 Walker Lane in McLoud. The next day,
surveillance video showed Elizabeth Cornett using Orr’s
food stamp card at a Harrah grocery store.
Based on leads obtained during the investigation,
a search warrant was served at the Walker Lane residence in March 2021 by OSCO and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators dug in several
areas of the backyard searching for Orr’s remains but
nothing was found.
In November 2021, investigators interviewed a subject in federal custody who said that Orr was murdered
in a bedroom at the Cornett’s house and then burned
in a metal box in the backyard. The subject said the box
was then moved to a property located on ‘R’ Road in
Edmond.
A second search warrant for the McLoud property
was secured and executed on November 4, 2021. Investigators discovered blood in one of the bedrooms
and buccal swabs were taken. Those swabs were run
in the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) by OSBI
criminalists. On May 24, 2022, the OSBI lab notified
investigators that the swabs matched DNA from Orr that was in the offender database.
Both Cornetts were booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on March 1.
They have since been moved to the Pottawatomie County Jail.
Jason Cornett is being held without bail and Elizabeth has a $200,000 bond. Investigators also arrested the Cornett’s nephew, Jordan Treaster, 18, a few days later and
charged with Accessory to First Degree Murder in the First Degree and Desecration of a
Human Corpse.
This is a joint investigation between the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs (OBNDD), Oklahoma Department of Corrections (ODOC) Intelligence Division, Oklahoma State Bureau
of Investigation (OSBI) and the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office.

WHAT WERE YOU
THINKING?
Accused car thief released from NC jail allegedly steals bond agent’s SUV
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man accused of stealing a car apparently could not resist another theft
when he bonded out of jail.
According to a bail bond agent in Charlotte, North Carolina, her vehicle was
stolen after she went inside the Mecklenburg County Jail on Dec. 30 to post bail
for a client, WSOC-TV reported. She accused a man who had just posted bail
of swiping her vehicle.
“He has to be the boldest and the dumbest criminal in the city,” Nymea Cropper told the television station. “The audacity to get out of jail, walk outside of the
jail and steal a car.”
According to police, Anthony Deshawn Goddard, 29, posted $3,000 bail after
being arrested on Dec. 29. According to online Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s
Office booking records, Goddard had been charged with possession of stolen
goods, resisting an officer, reckless driving, speeding, and operating a vehicle
without an operator’s license.
According to police, surveillance video showed Goddard breaking into Cropper’s SUV and driving away, WSOC reported.
“The car was definitely stolen at 11:02 (p.m.). I came outside at 11:05,” Cropper told the television station. “So this kid just thinks he can steal a car and
nothing’s going to happen to him.”
Cropper said that she has spoken to other bail bond businesses and believes
that if the alleged thief is caught, bail will be next to impossible to secure. She
also reiterated her message to the person who swiped her vehicle.
“I would say you’re stupid,” Cropper told WSOC. “You’re the stupidest criminal and I can’t wait until you get caught, ‘cause no one is going to bond you
out,” she said.

PATTON PLEADS
GUILTY TO MURDER
Michael David Patton, 30, of Wewoka, entered a
guilty plea to an Information charging him with Murder in Indian Country – Second Degree, which is
punishable by up to life imprisonment, a fine up to
$250,000, or both.
The Information alleged that on or about October 19, 2022, Patton, with malice aforethought, did unlawfully kill the victim. During
the plea hearing, Patton admitted he entered a residence in Wewoka by force and
stabbed the victim over ten times while the victim was sleeping.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma prosecuted
the case because Patton is a member of a federally recognized Indian tribe and the
crime occurred in Seminole County, within the boundaries of the Seminole Nation
Reservation and within the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The charges arose from an investigation by the Seminole Lighthorse Police Department, Seminole County Sheriff’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
The Honorable Gerald L. Jackson, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the plea and
ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report. The defendant was
remanded into the custody of the United States Marshal pending imposition of sentencing.

PREVENTION MONTH
ESSENTIALS FOR CHILDHOOD
The CDC’s National Center for Injury Prevention and Control defines three critical
qualities of relationships and environments
that can reduce the occurrence and negative
effects of child maltreatment and other ACEs
(CDC, 2019):
1. Safety: The extent to which a child is free
from fear and secure from physical or psychological harm within his or her social and
physical environment
2. Stability: The degree of predictability and
consistency in a child’s social, emotional, and physical environment
3. Nurturing: The extent to which children’s physical, emotional, and developmental needs are sensitively and consistently met
CDC’s Essentials for Childhood focuses on four goals that are critical for creating
the context for safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments:
Goal 1: Raise awareness and commitment to promote safe, stable, nurturing
relationships and environments for all children
Goal 2: Use data to inform actions
Goal 3: Create the context for healthy children and families by changing norms
and programs Goal 4: Create the context for healthy children and families through
policies
While each individual goal is important, meeting the four goals together is more
likely to build a comprehensive foundation of safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments for children. CDC has funded seven State health departments to implement the four goals.
For additional information on Essentials for Childhood, refer to the following:
Essentials for Childhood: Creating Safe, Stable, Nurturing Relationships and
Environments

NOW OR LATER
A 28-year-old Seminole man allegedly attacked
officers when they assisted with an eviction notice
on March 10.
According to the police report, Seminole County deputies went to a residence on 3600 Road
to assist in the execution of an eviction order at approximately 8:54 a.m. The
brother of Houa Yang was serving the notice.
When deputies told Yang that he needed to vacate the premises, he told them
that he wasn’t leaving. He said they brought him here and now they wanted him
to leave.
Deputies informed him that he didn’t have an option - he needed to go. They
said he had 30 minutes to get his stuff and go.
Yang once again said he wasn’t leaving and he didn’t have to. Deputies warned
Yang that he would be taken to jail if he didn’t comply with orders.
At one point, one deputy stepped forward to speak with the man. Yang yelled
and lunged toward the deputies. A deputy grabbed the man’s coat and attempted to put him in handcuffs. Yang violently jerked away and continued to yell,
struggle, and resist being arrested.
A deputy fired his JPX at the man, hitting him above his left eye, but the man
continued to resist. Yang then told deputies, “OK, give me 30 minutes.”
Deputies told him it was too late for that.
Yang eventually complied and was put in handcuffs. He was treated at the
hospital before being booked into jail.
Yang is being charged with battery/assault on a police officer. His bond was
set at $75,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on April 6, 2023.

NASH ATTEMPTS
TO DASH
A Ravia man was arrested in early March for
crimes against a child.
The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office received a
call March 11 in the town of Ravia about a subject
committing lewd acts against an underage child.
Deputies Ty Richeson and Brady Bailey responded to the call and began investigating the allegations. The person of interest had already fled the scene prior to
the Sheriff’s Office being called.
Due to the allegations, Deputy Justin Murray, Sgt. Alyson Orr-Dodd, and Sheriff Gary Dodd responded to the area. An interview was conducted by our deputy
who is specifically trained in forensically interviewing children.
An affidavit for arrest warrant was produced and signed by a District Judge.
Throughout March 11 night and into Sunday morning, March 12, we continued to attempt to locate the suspect, Bryan Nash.
On Sunday morning, March 12, deputies received information Nash was in the
process of trying to flee to Texas. A short time later, deputies noticed a vehicle
matching the description in which the suspect was driving pull into a residence
in Ravia. Deputies recognized Nash getting out of the vehicle. Several deputies
and the Sheriff begin closing in on the subject, which again attempted to flee. He
was taken into custody by Deputy Richeson without further incident.
Nash was taken to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office for an interview and
subsequently incarcerated in the Johnston County Jail. Nash was booked in on
the following charges:
1. Lewd acts with a minor child.
2. Kidnapping.
3. Attempted Rape 1st Degree.
4. Contributing to a Minor.
This case has been forwarded to the Johnston County District Attorneys Office for prosecution. As always job well done by all the deputies involved. Special
recognition to Deputies Ty Richeson and Sgt. Alyson Orr-Dodd on the professional investigation and bringing this fugitive to justice.
~Sheriff Gary Dodd
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless
