WHILE YOU WERE
SLEEPING
A Stillwater man’s curiosity lead to the discovery of disturbing items on his new girlfriend’s
phone that resulted in her arrest.
Ashlee Cheatham, 19, of Midwest City, was
charged August 29 with child sexual abuse under 12, distribution of child pornography, violation of computer crimes act,
and possession of paraphernalia, in Payne County District Court.
According to a press release by Stillwater Police Department (SPD), on
Tuesday, August 22, at 10:11 a.m., a SPD officer responded to the SPD lobby
where he met with a very distraught parent. The parent disclosed he recently
met a girl online from the Oklahoma City area. She became his girlfriend and
moved in with him. While she was sleeping, he went through her phone and
found disturbing images and videos of his three-year-old daughter.
Cheatham was later contacted by SPD officers and detectives. She was
arrested at the residence and transported to the jail where she was booked
without incident.
Bond for Cheatham was set at $75,000.

NEIGHBORHOOD IMPROVEMENTS
TO MAKE IT SAFER
PART 1
Living in a safe and secure neighborhood is one of the
key factors that define the quality of life in a community.
Crime and insecurity create an unpleasant atmosphere
and can even affect the physical and emotional well-being of the residents. To tackle these issues, neighbors
must work together to improve safety in the area, and
it all starts with small but significant changes to the neighborhood. Over the next few
months, Jailbirds will cover some attractive and functional neighborhood safety improvements that can make a significant difference.
Build a Neighborhood Watch Program
Starting a neighborhood crime watch program is a proactive way to promote safety and
security in your community. By working together, residents can help deter criminal activity
and make their neighborhoods safer places to live. Small businesses near the area can aid
the effort by installing security cameras and alarms that can serve as additional deterrents.
With a neighborhood crime watch program in place, residents can support each other,
report suspicious activity, and work together to create a safer and more secure community.
This is Part One of a Six Part Series. At Jailbirds, we provide you with the information
you need to stay safe. DAVID

AROUND THE NATION
Couldn’t he have phoned a friend instead?!?
An 18-year-old man in DeKalb County basically turned himself into police after a robbery
attempt turned ice cold...literally.
On Saturday, July 15, 2023, around 6:41 p.m. the Waterman Police Department in Waterman, Illinois responded to a call about a man being stuck in a
freezer at a local food establishment called Fay’s Finest Foods.
So how did this man get himself locked in a freezer? That is where the story
gets interesting.
According to WSPY News, 18-year-old Gabriel J. Morales locked himself
in the freezer at Fay’s Finest Foods while attempting to ROB the joint, AND
he called 911 himself.

TAG, YOU'RE IT
A Sapulpa man is facing federal charges after
he went on a crime spree earlier this year.
Dakota Dale Deckard, 24, an Absentee-Shawnee citizen, is charged with first degree burglary
in Indian Country; aggravated identity theft;
four counts of second-degree burglary in Indian
Country; and receipt of stolen property in Indian
Country.
Deckard allegedly broke into multiple locations in May and June, including a church, and stole property. He was also
found in possession of a vehicle he knew to be stolen, and knowingly used
identification and a debit card of another without their permission.
Among his victims were the South Heights Baptist Church in Sapulpa,
Dominoes Pizza, and Taco Bueno, of which he stole cash.
A Sapulpa Police officer and another driver was hurt in a crash as the officer was heading to a standoff between Decker and other officers.
Deckard was found hiding in a hidden compartment of his dad’s truck and
was arrested after a standoff.
The Sapulpa Police Department and FBI are the investigating agencies. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Thomas Buscemi and Michael Harder are prosecuting
the case.

ON TO GREENER
PASTURES
Formal charges were file August 17 against a mom and her
daughter after Lincoln County deputies found evidence of animal cruelty on their Wellston property.
Lisa Zumstein, 60, and Madeline Zumstein, 21, are both
being charged with 49 counts.
According to the affidavit, a deputy was dispatched to the
residence to investigate reports of animal neglect on March
15, 2023. When he arrived, he saw some baby goats running
in the road with a large amount of trash. He also saw a gray
horse that appeared to be unhealthy, with ribs and hip bones
showing and bad looking feet. The horse also didn’t have access to food or water. It was standing in a large trash pile
that contained jagged metal, wire, broken wood, and chain
link fencing.
Water barrels on the property seemed empty or knocked
over and deputies didn’t see any food - only trash.
Deputies set up a time to meet with Liza Zumstein.
The next day at approximately 4 p.m., the deputy returned.
Lisa seemed agitated and asked if she needed a lawyer. The
deputy assessed the situation and the condition of the animals. Some of the trash was picked up, the goats were in a
pin, and water barrels were clean and full of water. The deputy
also observed some fresh hay. He told Lisa, however, that the amount of hay on the property, nor the
10 acres of the property, was enough for the animals living there to eat and graze on. He gave her a
30-day notice of compliance with things that needed to be fixed.
One April 5, the deputy drove by and noticed some trash was gone and there was more hay.
He tried to contact Lisa on April 14, but he was unable to. The property was still out of compliance.
Similar events happened on May 29, July 17 and July 19.
On July 20, they served a search warrant along with a vet, who said the animals were in poor
condition. Deputies found three animal carcasses, along with other scattered remains.
On July 26, deputies returned to the property to serve a search warrant and seizure of animals.
Madeline tried to block them from entering the property, but they detained her. They also placed Lisa
under arrest.
