CONFLICT OF
INTEREST
A 27-year-old Tonkawa man is facing assault charges
for allegedly shooting a man on February 2.
According to reports, Ponca City police officers were
dispatched to the 300 block of Virginia at approximately
5:31 p.m. to investigate a shooting in which there were
two victims. When officers arrived at the location, they
found the suspect, Zane Sidney Stanton, kneeling in
the street. He was bleeding from his arm.
Nearby, a woman was in the front yard of a residence holding the head of another
shooting victim. The second victim was bleeding from his neck.
Stanton told police he shot the other man because the other man punched him in the
face.
The woman said Stanton was her ex-boyfriend. She was living with the other victim.
She and the victim were talking outside to her landlord when Stanton pulled up to the
location. He allegedly pulled out a gun, and the two men started wrestling on the ground.
During the scuffle, the gun was fired twice.
Stanton told officers that when he pulled up to the area, the man and woman walked
outside. He said he was speaking to the woman when the other man walked up to him
and punched him in the jaw. Stanton said he fell to the ground and the man jumped on
top of him, so he fired two shots. One of the shots hit the other man in the neck.
The man then stopped fighting and said he was shot and dying.
Stanton explained to police that the blood was his hands was due to him applying
pressure to the man’s neck.
Stanton is being charged with assault, battery, or assault and battery with a dangerous
weapon. His bond was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on March
1, 2024.

AROUND THE NATION
News Flash! Trucks don’t surf!
A New York man was arrested and charged in
Florida after authorities caught him driving his pickup truck into the ocean at New Smyrna Beach, just
south of Daytona Beach, early on Tuesday.
A video shared by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office
shows a person driving a white pickup truck into the
water — sometimes driving alongside the waves and other times against it — and
even attempting to perform a donut.
The driver — later identified as 49-year-old Jason Brzuszkiewicz, of Bridgeport,
N.Y. — is then seen off the water chatting with deputies, who informed him the
beach was closed due to high tides.
Bodycam video also shows Brzuszkiewicz attempting to hide from a camera by
covering part of his face with a black baseball cap. He then tells an officer that he’s
not really the one to blame. “It’s not my fault truck don’t surf!” he says.
“Yeah, but you shouldn’t be driving on the beach when the gates are all closed,”
one deputy responds.
“I thought I was in England,” Brzuszkiewicz says.
When the deputy confirms they are not in England, Brzuszkiewicz’s response gets
even more colorful.
“We are not in Kansas, anymore?” he asks, using the famous Judy Garland line
from 1939’s MGM classic “The Wizard of Oz” — before laughing at his own joke.
According to the sheriff’s office, Brzuszkiewicz “drove around a closed gate
marked DO NOT ENTER and
accessed the beach in New
Smyrna Beach.”
He was ultimately charged
with a violation of the Volusia
County Ordinance — failure to
pay vehicular access fee — and
then taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $200 bond.

GONE TOO FAR
A Cleveland man is being held in the Pawnee
County jail after he allegedly killed his brother.
Harold Leroy Patton, 39, was charged February
28 with murder second degree, in Pawnee County District Court.
According to the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI), on February 26, the Cleveland
Police Department requested OSBI to assist with
a homicide. Around 3:30 a.m. that morning, Cleveland Police officers responded to a residence near North D Avenue and West Wichita Avenue on an unresponsive adult male. Officers performed life-saving measures as the victim was
transported to a local hospital, but he later passed away.
Reports state Patton was at the home when officers arrived on scene. Witnesses said Patton was talking to himself and would not go to bed. When Patton’s brother asked him who he was talking to and why he wasn’t in bed, Patton
put his brother in a headlock and would not let go, even after the witnesses told
Patton to stop.
After about five minutes, Patton finally let go of his brother and his brother fell
to the floor unresponsive and not breathing.
Patton was arrested and booked into the Pawnee County Jail. Bond was set
at $2M and his first court appearance is scheduled for March 5.
The victim was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner,
who will determine the individuals cause of death. This is still an ongoing investigation.
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless
