WHAT'S IN THE BOX?
A 33-year-old Cushing man was locked up after a deputy found drugs and paraphernalia in his
possession on October 1.
According to reports, a deputy was patrolling
the area of Little and North Street in Cushing when
he saw a black vehicle with a cracked windshield
around 2:25 a.m. The deputy made contact with
the driver, identified as Billy Joe Grandstaff, Jr.
While speaking to the man, he noticed an open container of alcohol in the center console.
The deputy asked Grandstaff and two women to step out of the car so he
could search for other open containers. He saw a bag with several syringes in
a mesh pocket. The deputy retrieved the bag and found a cigarette box in the
front pocket. Inside the box, he found a crystal-like substance that field-tested
positive for fentanyl.
The deputy also found a glass pipe with a crystal-like substance. One of the
syringes in the bag was filled with a substance that tested positive for fentanyl.
Grandstaff is being charged with trafficking illegal drugs, unlawful possession
of drug paraphernalia, and transporting an opened container of an alcoholic
beverage. His bond was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on November 4, 2024.

THAT'S METHED UP!
TSA detects methamphetamine concealed in traveler’s groin at Philadelphia International Airport
When a Transportation Security Administration
checkpoint scanner at Philadelphia International Airport
alarmed in the groin area of a Columbia County, Pa.,
man yesterday (September 30), a shotgun shell that appeared to be tampered with was
removed from beneath the man’s clothing.
A closer inspection of the altered shotgun shell determined that the white powder that
had been concealed inside of the shell was not an explosive. Philadelphia Police determined that the shell contained methamphetamine and arrested the man, a resident of
Orangeville, Pa., on a state charge.
Shotgun shells as well as any caliber of ammunition are prohibited from being carried
through a security checkpoint.
“Our focus is in ensuring that nobody attempts to bring explosives onto a flight,” said
Gerardo Spero, TSA’s Federal Security Director for the airport. “We use technology and
the skills of our officers and explosives experts to help ensure that explosives do not get
past our checkpoints.
“In this instance, our explosives experts conducted a test to determine what the mysterious white powdered substance
was and fortunately it was determined not to be an explosive. It
is disappointing to see individuals
attempt to hide items on their person or among their carry-on items
in an attempt to conceal them.
We are not looking for drugs,
but when we come across them,
we alert law enforcement and let
them handle the situation.”
Spero commended his officers
and explosives specialist for their
expert handling of the situation.
“It was a good catch and a job
well done by all involved, including our law enforcement partners,” he said.
Shotgun shells as well as any
caliber of ammunition is prohibited from being carried through a
security checkpoint.

NO EXCUSES
A Depew man is facing six felony charges after
an extensive investigation by the Creek County
Sheriff’s Office.
Eddie Floyd Matlock, 74, was charged September 27 with three counts of sexual abuse- child
under 12, and three counts of lewd or indecent
acts to a child under 16, in Creek County District
Court.
According to a press release by the Creek County Sheriff’s Office, on September 27, Creek County deputies arrested Matlock on multiple counts of child
sexual abuse. The arrest followed a comprehensive investigation after receiving
complaints regarding suspected abuse.
Matlock is incarcerated at the Creek County Jail and held on a $300,000
bond.
According to court documents, at a bond reduction hearing on October 18,
Matlock’s attorney asked the court to reduce his client’s bond to $215,000 because of his client’s health, no prior felony convictions, and he is a veteran. It
was also stated that since the charges range from 1988 until 2004, his attorney
deemed it impossible to defend his client while his client was in custody.
The bond reduction hearing was set for November 1.
The Creek County Sheriff’s Office encourages other potential victims to come
forward. You can submit a crime tip at www.creekcountysheriff.gov or call 918-
224-4964.

PANIC MODE
A 33-year-old man from Oklahoma City was
taken to jail after he allegedly took another person’s phone from a Lincoln County casino on October 7.
According to the police report, a Kickapoo Tribal Police officer was dispatched to the Kickapoo
Casino in Harrah around 10:32 p.m. to investigate
a stolen cell phone. He spoke to casino employees, who told him that they had video footage of Shea Daniel Love taking a
phone. The man was still at the casino.
The officer found the man sitting at a machine and told him, “Look, you can
go with the whole ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about’ story, but realize we
have cameras all over this casino. Or, you could be honest and just give me back
the phone.”
Love told the officer he did take the phone, but he panicked and threw it out of
his car window at the intersection of Highway 62 and Highway 102. They took a
golf cart to the area and found the phone in the grass behind a stop sign.
After putting Love in handcuffs, the officer spoke to the victim, who said he
had walked away from a machine and when he returned, his phone was missing. He said he didn’t know Love and didn’t give the man permission to take the
phone. When he turned the phone on, it showed a screensaver of the man and
his family.
Love is being charged with grand larceny. His bond was set at $3,000, and he
is scheduled to appear in court on December 19, 2024.
