BREAKING AND ENTERING
Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty 9 | DECEMBER 2018 2018 COMANCHE COUNTY
DECEMBER IS NATIONAL DRUNK AND
DRUGGED DRIVING PREVENTION MONTH
Deaths in crashes involving
drunk drivers with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08+
dropped in 2010, but despite
this decrease, there were still
10,228 lives lost – that’s one
person every 51 minutes. That
makes it everyone’s problem.
It seems that many people
were doing their part to put a stop to this completely preventable epidemic.
Alcohol-related traffic fatalities reached a low point in the late 1990s. Research
also indicates that 62% of Americans exposed to the now-iconic Friends
Don’t Let Friends Drive Drunk campaign have personally intervened to stop
someone from driving drunk, no doubt saving countless lives.
However, since the late 90’s, alcohol-related driving deaths have been
steadily increasing. It seems that though the campaign was very successful, it did not change the behavior of many potential impaired drivers. Many
thought the messages to be targeted at overtly drunk drivers, and not them.
When decision time came, they would consider themselves merely “buzzed”
and get behind the wheel.
The new PSAs created to address this gap were released in December
2005 with the objective to inspire dialogue and recognition of the dangers of
“buzzed” driving and subsequently, to motivate people to stop driving buzzed.
The next installment expands on this message, equating buzzed driving and
drunk driving and demonstrating the devastating consequences that can occur as a result of buzzed driving. The overall campaign hopes to educate
people that consuming even a few drinks can impair driving and that Buzzed
Driving is Drunk Driving.

where? underwear!
22-year-old Duncan man Tristen Kevin Mitchel
Chambers was arrested after an officer stopped
him for speeding on November 15.
According to the police report, a Duncan officer
was parked near 27th and Beech when he saw a
white van headed westbound on Beech at a high
rate of speed shortly after 2 a.m. He turned on
his lights and pulled behind the vehicle. The driver
turned left onto Alice, then made an abrupt right
onto Sequoia, where he came to a stop.
The officer approached the vehicle and made
contact with the driver, identified as Chambers.
He immediately noticed the odor of raw marijuana
coming from inside the vehicle.
The officer asked Chambers if he had anything
illegal inside the van. Chambers looked at him with
a blank stare and didn’t say anything. The officer
observed that the man had droopy red glassy eyes
and dilated pupils. He then asked the man if he
had any meth, heroine or cocaine in the car.
After being asked about each substance, Chambers replied, “I don’t smoke that.”
The officer asked the man if he had any marijuana in the car. Chambers started
shaking and didn’t answer the question.
After reviewing the man’s license, the officer again asked the man if he had taken
any meds or smoked any weed. Chambers admitted to partaking in the drug during
his lunch break around midnight. He again told the officer he didn’t have any drugs in
his vehicle.
The officer asked the man to step out of the vehicle for sobriety tests.
Not surprisingly, the man didn’t do too well. The officer placed him under arrest.
When they arrived at the jail, the officer again asked if he had anything illegal on his
person. He said no.
During booking, Chambers told a jailer he had some weed in his underwear.
The detention officer located a bag containing a green leafy substance that tested
positive for marijuana.
Chambers is being charged with bringing contraband into jail/penal institution and
driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs. His bond was set at $5,000,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on January 2, 2019.

“It’s not mine”
A Duncan man who had some syringes
hidden under his scrotum tried to tell officers
they weren’t his.
Who put them there, then??
According to the affidavit, a Stephens
County deputy stopped a vehicle that had
a headlamp out at approximately 2:48 a.m.
on November 18. The vehicle was heading
northbound on Highway 81 from the casino.
The deputy identified the driver as 40-yearold Jason Deondray Benson. The passenger
was identified as Marlow woman Amber Season Kelly, 39.
The deputy asked the couple if they had
been drinking that night. They both said no.
The deputy asked Benson to have a seat in
the patrol car so they could talk. While checking the man’ information, the deputy asked Benson when he had last had
an alcoholic beverage. Benson said around 7 p.m. the evening before. The
deputy then asked if there were any open containers in the car. Benson said
no and gave the deputy permission to check.
The deputy didn’t find anything, but he administered sobriety tests to Benson. The man didn’t pass, so the deputy placed the couple under arrest.
During booking, the deputy was advised that a jailer had found some syringes on Benson’s person. The deputy asked Benson about the syringes.
Benson said he didn’t know, because the syringes weren’t his.
The deputy told him that the jailer found them under his scrotum, so…
Benson still denied that they were his. The syringes tested positive for the
presence of methamphetamine.
Kelley is being charged with public intoxication. Her bond was set at $500,
and she is scheduled to appear in court on February 5, 2019.
Benson is being charged with bringing contraband into jail and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs. His bond was set at $10,000,
and he is scheduled to appear in court on January 9, 2019.

OBSTRUCTING/ RESISTING AN
OFFICER
14 | DECEMBER 2018 2018 TILLMAN COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
Police out helping keep the streets clean arrested a man suspected of
stealing a street sweeper.
According to Sacramento Police, officers out on patrol near Truxel
Road and Brewerton Drive saw a street sweeper truck peel out of a
parking lot and onto the street.
The truck promptly ran a red light – and didn’t have its headlights on –
prompting the officers to try and pull the street sweeper over. However,
police note, the driver pushed on and didn’t stop until he had hit three
parked cars. The driver then bolted from the truck.
A police perimeter was set up in the area, but the suspected driver –
18-year-old Lavonn Dill – eventually surrendered himself to a K-9 officer.
Dill now faces charges of fleeing, possession of a stolen vehicle and
hit-and-run charges.
A Florida man who was doing a mean-spirited Santa Claus impression
might be spending Christmas behind bars after getting caught in the
chimney of a Naples, Fla., home during an attempted burglary.
Richard Tyler Brandon, 25, got trapped in a chimney after running out
of cash during a night out. His friend, Derek Grenfell, alerted two Naples
police officers about the situation after it became apparent Brandon was
stuck.
A team of police officers and local fire department officials broke into
the home and saw Brandon’s foot hanging in the fireplace.
“I said, ‘Dude, you’re not Santa Claus, what are you doing?’” Grenfell
reportedly said to the police.
It took two hours, but Brandon was freed from the chimney and taken to the hospital for treatment of issues including leg pain and trouble
breathing. It could have been worse.
“There is a chance he could have died,” said Naples Detective Robert
Young. “That space he was jammed into was really tight. He couldn’t
move.”
Brandon was hit with two burglary charges and Grenfell was charged
as an accessory to the crime after the fact.
A Vero Beach, Fla., man who was angry with his wife left a phony bomb
on a kitchen counter, an Indian River County Sheriff’s Office spokesman.
Randolph Smith, 51, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault
with a deadly weapon, planting a hoax bomb and resisting arrest without
violence.
Deputies received a call from a woman who said her husband left a
gray pipe with a wire protruding from one end on the kitchen counter.
There were several hand-written notes on the counter, including one that
read, “This is (an) explosive. (It’s) a bomb.”
Smith’s wife told deputies she is in the process of getting a divorce.
The bomb squad was called and determined that the device didn’t
contain any explosives.
Deputies tracked Smith down at a Burger King and arrested him.
During questioning, Smith tried to leave the interview room and had to
be handcuffed, according to the arrest report.
Smith told detectives that he left the hoax bomb on the counter because his wife “pissed him off.”
STUPID CRIMINALS
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

More Than Four Pounds of Fentanyl
Lead to Prison for Two Men
Jose Avigail Grijalva, 26, of Tucson, Arizona, and Rayment Lee Scott, Jr., 39, of Roswell, Georgia, have been
sentenced to 7-10 years respectively for trafficking in
fentanyl and cocaine, announced Robert J. Troester of
the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
According to court documents, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol stopped Grijalva and Scott for a traffic violation on Interstate 40 in western Oklahoma on April 10,
2017. A drug dog alerted to the back bumper. Troopers found 4.5 pounds of fentanyl and more than seven
pounds of cocaine in the spare tire.
The next day, the District Attorney for Caddo County
charged Grijalva and Scott with aggravated drug trafficking. A federal grand jury indicted the pair on May
18, 2017, on one count of conspiracy and one count
of possessing cocaine with intent to distribute. After
testing revealed the presence of fentanyl, the grand jury
returned a two-count superseding indictment on June
20, 2017.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid typically prescribed in amounts less than a milligram. The National
Institute on Drug Abuse reported in August 2018 that
synthetic opioids other than methadone—a category
dominated by fentanyl—were responsible for more than
29,000 of approximately 72,000 overdose deaths in the
United States in 2017. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, 4.5 pounds of fentanyl, if pure,
could kill as many as one million people.
Grijalva pleaded guilty to possession of controlled substances with intent to
distribute on November 21, 2017. On February 27, 2018, Scott pleaded guilty
to a superseding information that charged him with conspiring to traffic fentanyl
and cocaine.
On September 6, 2018, Chief U.S. District Judge Joe Heaton sentenced Grijalva to 120 months in prison, to be followed by five years of supervised release. On
November 7, Judge Heaton sentenced Scott to seven years in prison and three
years of supervised release. Both have been in state or federal custody since their
arrest in April 2017.

Driver of SUV with 11 Illegal Immigrants Pleads
Guilty to Federal Charge
A Mexican citizen pleaded guilty November 6
to unlawfully driving himself and 10 other illegal
aliens from Arizona to Kansas, U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister said.
Alex They Maya-Dimas, 37, a citizen of Mexico,
pleaded guilty to one count of transporting illegal aliens. In his plea, he admitted he was driving
a 2002 GMC Yukon when a Ford County deputy
stopped him. Maya-Dimas and 10 other occupants of the vehicle were Mexican citizens who
were in the United States illegally. The passengers
told investigators Maya-Dimas drove them from Arizona to Kansas City
through Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 24. He faces up to five years in federal prison
and a fine up to $250,000. McAllister commended the Ford County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations and Assistant U.S. Attorney
David Lind for their work on the case.

do the crime, do the time
It only took just under three hours for a jury to
return a guilty verdict on a Chickasha man accused of shooting several police officers back in
September of 2017.
Alex Warren Klingler was charged September
22, 2017 with three counts of assault and battery with a deadly weapon, six counts of shooting with intent to kill and one count of maiming. A
jury convicted him on all charges on November
5.
According to the police report, Chickasha
officers served a search warrant at Klingler’s
residence in the 3500 block of S. Fourth Street
shortly after 2:30 p.m on September 17, 2017.
They first searched and cleared a detached garage on the property. Officers then approached the front door of the residence
and announced their presence. When no one opened it, they attempted to
break it down. The door opened slightly, and officers could see that it was
barricaded.
Shots then began coming out of the residence, striking one officer multiple
times. Two other officers were injured while trying to help the officer who had
been shot.
Klingler continued to fire at officers, sending bullets through the front door,
north wall and west windows of the house, hitting officers, the ground, and
multiple vehicles.
Police later discovered the man had been using a .308 assault rifle to fire
at them.
Klingler’s granddaughter told police he sent her a text message and told her
he had been shot, but was okay. When she called to check on him, he told
her some police officers were trying to break down his door, but he wasn’t
going to jail. He said he shot at the officers because he didn’t want to go to
jail for the assault that had been reported earlier that day.
According to court records, Klingler sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. on
March 26, 2019. The jury recommended a life sentence for each count.
