Another New Year has come,
and with it, millions of people
have made resolutions to improve some aspect of their lives. Some
of these resolutions are doomed from the start for a multitude of
reasons. Even though successfully sticking with and accomplishing
a New Year’s resolution goal may not seem to directly relate to
driving safely, I’m going to try and give some tips on increasing
your ability to stick to a resolution, and tie it in to how it could
actually make you a safer driver!
Some of the more popular resolutions are to lose weight, get in
shape, or quit smoking. Each one of these are great goals. So to
achieve a goal, a person must clearly define the actual goal. For
quitting smoking, that one is pretty clearly defined as it is. For the
other, some more clarity is needed. How much weight do you want
to lose? How long are you giving yourself to get there? Once you
define these goals and time lines, write them down somewhere! Put
them somewhere that you are reminded of them each day. Make
sure your goals are reasonable, and attainable. It won’t do any
good to set goals that are unrealistic!
Next, we need to write down how exactly we plan to accomplish
our goals. For smoking, are you going cold turkey, using the patch,
or incrementally cutting down how many cigarettes you smoke a
day until you aren’t smoking at all? For losing weight, write down
your workout program, and schedule. Write down your diet goals
and track it religiously. Try to find someone who will join you in
your workouts and diet. Having someone to count on and someone
counting on you is a great support system for you in your efforts.
Last, tell as many people as you feel comfortable. Get people on
your side to support you, and hold you accountable to your goals
when you have moments of weakness! Believe in yourself! Have a
positive attitude about what you are trying to accomplish.
So how do accomplishing these goals help you be a safer
driver? Studies have shown that people who exercise and eat
right have sharper mental focus. Since a significant percentage
of accidents are caused due to inattention, improved focus will
obviously pay off while driving! Exercise will help improve handeye coordination, which is a big positive while driving! A healthy,
smoke-free body minimizes the risk of heart attack and other
medical issues that could be tragic anytime, not just behind the
wheel.
So there you have it. Successful accomplishment of some of
the most popular New Year’s resolutions will not only have you
slimmer, healthier, and happier, but can have an impact on your
ability to be a safer, courteous driver! Thanks for reading, buckle
up, and be safe!

An Enid woman was arrested on her
way home from work Jan. 28, after police found drugs and a bottle of vodka in
her vehicle.
A Garfield County deputy was stopped
at a red light in the 4500 block of W.
Owen K. Garriot in Enid when he noticed that the vehicle in front of him did
not have a working tag light, the affidavit states.
He initiated a traffic stop and made
contact the driver, Kristine Lynn Valdez, 34. As he told her the reason she
was pulled over, he noticed that she appeared to be overly nervous.
Another deputy with a K9 arrived and conducted a free air sniff
around Valdez’s vehicle. The K9 deputy advised that the dog gave a
positive alert for illegal narcotics on the driver’s side door.
Police informed Valdez of the alert and asked her to step out of
the vehicle.
A deputy asked her is there was anything illegal in the vehicle that
they needed to know about.
Valdez said there was nothing illegal, but there was an open bottle
of vodka in her car. She said she had not been drinking, and she had
just got off of work at the mall.
During a search of Valdez’s car, police found a pipe with a burnt
oily residue, which the deputy recognized as being used to smoke
meth, and a half empty bottle of vodka.
The deputy asked Valdez if she had a methamphetamine problem.
She told him not really, but she had more of an alcohol problem
than meth.
Police transported her to jail and her car was impounded.
Valdez is being charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, transporting open bottle or container of liquor and no tag
light. She was released on a $2,000 bond and is scheduled to appear
in court on Feb. 6, 2014.

Michael Wilson
Michael Lee Wilson was
pronounced dead at 6:06 p.m. on
Jan. 9, 2014, by lethal injection,
for the murder of his co-worker,
Richard Yost.
Michael Lee Wilson and Richard
Kevin Yost were employees at the
local Quik Trip together. Wilson
planned to rob the store with Billy
Alverson, Darwin Brown and
Richard Harjo two weeks prior to
the murder. Shortly after Yost began
his shift on Feb. 25, 1995, Yost was
surrounded by Wilson, Alverson,
Brown and Harjo. Yost was dragged
to the back room where he was beaten to death by an aluminum
baseball bat. Following the beating, Wilson took money from the
store’s safe and cash registers while helping several customers
check out. All of these actions were seen by Quik Trip’s surveillance
tapes.
Shortly after Wilson’s arrest, Wilson’s mother called the police
and directed them to evidence of the robbery that was located at
her home. Police also found the safe and other materials from the
robbery at Alverson’s house.
Prior to this case, Wilson was an accessory to murder in 1995.
While Wilson was in custody, he committed assault and battery
upon another inmate and got into several fi ghts with inmates.
“Michael Lee Wilson was sentenced to death by a jury of his peers
for the heinous beating of Richard Yost, who was simply doing his
job,” Attorney General Scott Pruitt said. “My thoughts and prayers
are with Richard’s family and friends.”

ESCAPE FROM COUNTY JAIL
A drunk man with a love/hate relationship with cops was
taken into custody after he just couldn’t handle his alcohol at
an Enid bar.
On Jan. 24, an Enid police officer was dispatched to a bar in
the 800 block of N. 26th to investigate a report of a man that
had been stumbling around the parking lot for the last 15 minutes, according to the affidavit.
When he arrived, he saw the man, later identified as Wesley
Bryant Archer, 43, sitting on the tailgate of a truck. Two men
were holding on to the Enid man’s coat in an apparent attempt
to hold him up.
One of the men told the officer that he went out to his truck
to get something and noticed that Archer was passed out under
the vehicle.
The officer went to speak to Archer, but before he could even say anything, Archer gave him
a few good ol’ “F--- you”s.
Archer smelled of alcohol and his expletives were badly slurred.
The officer, undeterred by Archer’s less than kind words, asked Archer how much he had
had to drink. Archer told him “enough,” before nearly falling off of the tailgate.
The officer caught the man and kept him from falling to the ground, but as soon as he let go
of Archer, the drunk man started falling down again.
The officer had to hold Archer up to keep him from hitting the ground.
When the officer asked Archer if he had any friends at the bar, Archer became more fickle
than a preteen girl. His responses to the officer varied from alternating “f--- you”s, to “I love
you” and “you’re a nice guy,” then back to “you’re a mother f-----.”
The officer placed Archer under arrest, and with the help of another officer, placed the reluctant Archer in the patrol car as he unleashed another stream of “f--- you”s.
Archer is being charged with public intoxication. He was released on a $179.40 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 19, 2014.
He loves you, he
loves you not

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A former Rogers County Commissioner who spent time in prison is in trouble
with the law again.
Deputies arrested Randy Baldridge on
Jan. 7.
Tulsa police say a witness has accused
Baldridge of picking up runaway boys
and giving them drugs, sometimes in exchange for sexual favors.
Someone else told police that Baldridge
had given him methamphetamine and he
later woke up naked in a field.
TPD turned over the investigation to
Rogers County since the allegations were
centered there.
The Rogers County THUG task force
took him into custody. They say he had a
16-year-old runaway from Tulsa with him
at the time.
The two were at a Rogers County home
where deputies say they found syringes in
the boy’s backpack that tested positive for
containing methamphetamine.
Deputies say they got permission to
search Baldridge’s vehicle and found a
glass smoking device, several syringes
and a silver spoon, all with a white, powdery substance on them that also tested
positive for meth.
They say all this was found less than
200 feet from the
Tiawah Elementary
School.
An affidavit says
Baldridge admitted
supplying teenage
boys with meth, but
he first claimed he
bought it as a way to
keep the boys from going into those kinds
of places.
It says he originally denied using meth
himself, but later admitted, with tears in
his eyes, that he did use it.
This appears to be a long downward
spiral from where Baldridge was when
voters elected him to be a Rogers County
commissioner.
However, in 2007, a federal jury found
him guilty of money laundering, mail
fraud, obtaining money by fraud and
other counts and a judge sentenced Baldridge to 37 months in federal prison.
The sheriff says when Baldridge was
released from prison, he came back to
Rogers County, got a job and things were
quiet until his office received these recent
complaints.
The affidavit says a second teenage runaway boy has been at Baldridge’s home
many times, for long periods of time, but
he was dropped off at a Tulsa house and
deputies are still searching for him.

A Perry man must have been surprised when he was the one that
ended up in the pen after he called cops Jan. 13, to report his neighbor’s noisy dogs.
According to the affidavit, a Perry police officer was advised by dispatch that an individual in the 1000 block of Grove wanted to speak
to an officer in person. Dispatch added that the man said he would
shoot the dogs and the owner if nothing was done.
When the officer arrived at the residence, he approached a man
standing on the front porch. The man, identified as Christopher Job
Van Buren, 50, told the officer that he was having issues with dogs at
a nearby residence that had been barking all day.
While speaking with Van Buren, the officer could smell an overwhelming odor of alcohol coming from his breath and person.
Van Buren told the officer that the dogs constantly bark, and he had called the police department multiple times before wanting to speak to animal control. He said every time he
called, he was told that animal patrol was not on duty.
Van Buren said he is an electrician and needs his sleep to stay safe while working, but the
dogs were keeping him up at night.
The officer spoke to the owner of the dogs, who told him that although the dogs bark when
someone is in the alley or her yard, she brings them inside if their barking becomes excessive.
She said that she was never aware of anyone making complaint about her dogs.
The officer went back to speak to Van Buren and asked if he said anything to dispatch that
should not have been said. Van Buren admitted to saying he would shoot the dogs but denied
making any threats against their owner.
When the officer returned to the police department, he listened to the recording of Van
Buren’s call. He heard Van Buren say twice during the call that he would shoot the dogs and
the owner.
The officer and his comrade returned to Van Buren’s residence. His wife told them that he
went to the convenience store. Police found him walking in an alley. As the officer searched
him, he again smelled alcohol on Van Buren’s breath and person.
Van Buren is being charged with threatening to perform an act of violence and public intoxication. He was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April
14, 2014.

An angry Kingfisher business owner found himself in jail after he took matters into his own hands when he attacked another man after he heard that the victim was interfering with
his business.
According to the affidavit, a Hennessey police officer was dispatched to a local convenience store on Jan. 16, on a report of an
assault. When the officer arrived, he saw a man holding a towel
to his nose.
The man had blood all over his face, hands, clothes and shoes.
The officer asked him what had happened.
The victim said he was getting gas when he heard a vehicle’s
screeching brakes before it turned into the gas station parking
lot.
Unfortunately for the victim, the driver wasn’t there to get
gas; he was there to whoop some ass.
The victim said that Kevin Wayne Roden, 42, exited the vehicle and walked toward him.
When Roden got closer to the victim, he allegedly told him, “I am tired of you talking to my
employees.”
He then allegedly punched the victim in the face before getting in his truck and driving
away.
The victim told the officer that the two men had a long history and that Roden has been
threatening him for the last 15 years. He said in October, a semi ran him off the road. He later
heard Roden was bragging that he ran him off the road.
The officer found Roden and asked him what had happened. Roden told the officer that the
victim had told one of his customers that he shouldn’t do business with him anymore. He also
said two years ago, the victim texted his wife. Roden said that incident and what he heard
about his customer just drove him over the edge.
He admitted to hitting the victim and expressed remorse for what he did. Roden told the
officer, “If I could take it back, I would.”
Later that day, the victim returned to the police station after visiting the hospital and told
the officer that his nose was broken. The victim said he wanted to press charges against Roden.
Roden is being charged with aggravated assault and battery. He was released on a $5,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 27, 2014.

An honest Selman man was taken to jail when police
found marijuana in his pocket after a drunken drive.
On Jan. 27, an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper was
advised that an Enid police officer had initiated a traffic
stop east of Bouse Junction due to public safety, the affidavit states.
According to the police officer, the driver of the vehicle
was intoxicated and had been driving all over the road.
When the trooper arrived, the officer handed him an
Oklahoma ID card that belonged to the driver. The trooper
looked in the man’s vehicle and saw sealed beers in the
front seat and a spilled can of beer in the floorboard.
The driver, Cory Adam Rogers, 25, appeared to be falling asleep in the backseat of the Enid police vehicle. The
trooper removed Rogers from the police car and put him
in his vehicle. He noticed that the man smelled like alcohol
and marijuana.
Rogers admitted that he had consumed “about eight beers.”
The trooper asked him why he smelled like marijuana. Rogers replied, “I have a bag in my
coat pocket.”
After performing standard field sobriety tests, the trooper told Rogers he was under arrest.
Rogers didn’t resist and instead said, “Well yeah, I can’t even talk right.”
The trooper placed Rogers in handcuffs and found a baggie half-full of a green leafy substance that later field-tested positive for marijuana in his pocket. He also found a metal pipe
in Rogers’s other pocket.
Rogers said, “That’s my pipe.”
Rogers also denied the state’s test and told the trooper, “No, won’t do any good. We both
know I’m drunk.”
Rogers is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful
possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with license revoked, failure to maintain security,
transporting opened container of beer and driving a motor vehicle under the influence of
alcohol. His bond was set at $7,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 20, 2014.

FACT:
Most child sexual abusers find
their victims by frequenting
such places as schoolyards and

False. Most child sexual
abusers offend against children
whom they know and with whom
they have established a relationship.
Many sexual assaults of adult
women are considered “confidence
