Enid woman Heather Priscilla Morris, 32, was arrested July 17 after police
found her in Enid driving her ex’s truck.
The ex said he only gave her permission
to drive the vehicle to Hobby Lobby in
Tulsa.
According to the police report, an Enid
officer was dispatched to the 1200 block
of W. Rupe at approximately 3:32 p.m.
to check for a stolen vehicle out of Tulsa.
He was advised the suspect was Morris.
The officer didn’t see the stolen vehicle at the house he was dispatched to,
but he did find it a few blocks down in the 1300 block of W. Ritchie.
The truck’s owner told him Morris only had permission to drive
his vehicle to the arts and crafts store. When he found out she had
driven to Enid, he called her and told her to bring his truck back; she
never returned.
Police made contact with Morris, who told them she brought the
truck home to move her stuff.
She said she had permission to drive it, so the officer asked if she
had permission to drive it to Enid, and why it was parked a few blocks
away from her house. She said there were too many vehicles in the
driveway and she didn’t want people stealing things out of it.
The officer asked the obvious question – if she was worried people
were going to steal stuff from it, wouldn’t she want it in front of her
house?
Morris said she had a friend in the area who could keep an eye on
it. The officer retrieved the truck keys from Morris and placed her
under arrest.
Morris is being charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle. Her
bond was set at $3,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on
August 24, 2015.

Well, it took long enough, and
I’m not complaining about that,
but the heat has finally arrived!
Whether its at the lake, pool, or any of the numerous other
activities to be found throughout this great state, there are plenty of
ways to beat the heat! Since summertime travel is a big part of this
I thought I would touch on the way heat can affect your traveling
plans, and some tips to help you!
First, be prepared. Cars suffer in the heat just like we do. If
and when they break down, you’ll want to be ready. Be familiar
with your emergency equipment in your vehicle. This means learn
where your jack, spare tire, and tire tool are. Learn how to use
them. Figuring that out on the side of the road at 102 degrees is
no fun at all. The owner’s manual of your vehicle has a section
on roadside emergencies that can help you figure out where the
emergency equipment is stored, and tips on how to use it. Learn
the steps to change a flat! Although we will be happy to help you
if you are broken down, we aren’t always close, and may not be
able to get to you for a long period of time. If you know how to get
yourself out of a roadside emergency, that’s less time you’ll spend
in the heat.
Take lots of water with you if you are going on a trip, especially
if it’s a long one. Have a cell phone with you so you can call for
help if you need it. Be aware of your surroundings when driving,
so you can give the person you call for help an accurate location for
where you are. Also, if you can get your car to a place of shade, do
so. Temperatures can be up to 20 degrees cooler in a place of shade
such as an overpass or large trees.
Lastly, make sure your car is maintained properly. Ever notice
how many pieces of tires you see on the roadway during the
summer? The heat is hard on tires, so make sure they are properly
inflated and have good tread. If your tread is worn, get them
replaced! The pavement those tires are rolling on is even hotter
than the thermometer is showing! Visually check your belts, and
make sure all your fluids are filled up. That ounce of prevention
can keep you from being stuck on the side of the road in 100 plus
temperatures.
Preparing for roadside emergencies in the heat is just as important
as it is in the winter, but it seems like we just don’t prepare the
same for it. Just a few minutes of learning how to change a flat,
packing in a case of water, and being aware of your surroundings
can keep a bad day from being a whole lot worse!

Marshall County, Alabama, Sheriff Scott Walls said a burglary suspect got more than he bargained for when he attempted to flee deputies
across a field belonging to a particularly ornery bull on July 8.
Walls said it started around 8 a.m. at a residence on Baldwin Drive
in Arab, Ala. The owner of a home on that street came home and found
a truck in his yard belonging to two people who were burglarizing his
home. The homeowner immediately called the Sheriff’s Office and
chased the suspects as they ran away.
A short time later, Sheriff Walls said deputies and Arab Police located
the suspect’s vehicle and pursued it to the Union Grove area, where the
truck crashed.
“The driver, Brad Lynn Hemby, 26, of Boaz, fled across a cow pasture
and grabbed the attention of a bull roaming the field. The bull also gave chase along with deputies,” Walls said.
With more on his mind than jail at that moment, Hemby continued to run. Bad turned to worse
for him when he fell into a barbed wire fence. He immediately surrendered to deputies, Walls said.
The female passenger in Hemby’s truck ran into a wooded area not occupied by a bull and has
not been located at this time.
After the arrest, deputies recovered stolen property from Hemby’s truck, Walls said. Hemby is
charged with burglary, theft, and attempting to elude. Deputies continue to search for the passenger.

After filling out an application for an apartment, Perry man
Eric Dwayne Hartung got drunk, threw flower pots at a door,
stole a bicycle, and offered a deputy some meth. The 23-year-old
was arrested for his antics, but not before yelling some colorful
language at police!
On July 11, a Noble County deputy was dispatched to some
apartments in the 200 block of South Broadway in Billings shortly after 1 a.m. According to the affidavit, a woman told him she
picked Hartung up and took him to Billings to fill out an application for an apartment.
Hartung then left and went to another residence. The woman
said she knew he was going there to get drunk, and she was right.
Hartung returned to her apartment and was “extremely drunk.”
The woman refused to let him in her home, so he started throwing flower pots at her door and kicking it. The door cracked but it didn’t open, so Hartung
took off walking.
While the deputy was looking for the man, a woman approached him and said Hartung
tried to steal her son’s bicycle. When she yelled at him though, he dropped the bike and
walked away.
During the search, deputies spotted someone moving around next to some trailers near the
intersection of West Graves and South Pearl Street. A deputy saw a man who took off walking
through the yard of a residence when he saw police.
The deputy put a spotlight on the residence, and he saw a pair of shoes behind a truck
parked in the yard. A man peeked over the truck, then quickly ducked back down.
Another deputy sneaked up on the man and placed him in handcuffs. The obviously intoxicated Hartung yelped, “I ain’t doing anything.” He tried to pull away from the arresting
officer and told him, “You’re f------ lucky you snuck up on me! I would have kicked your ass!”
He then said, “F--- you f------ deputy mother f------!”
A deputy grabbed the man’s arm and told him to stop resisting. Hartung asked, “Do you
want some meth?” The deputy asked him if he had some. Hartung said, “No, but [man’s
name] does!”
Hartung is being charged with malicious injury to property under $1,000, resisting an officer, and public intoxication. His bond was set at $1,000, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on August 19, 2015.
Well, so much for

What’s an 18-year-old man supposed to do when he needs a beer?
According to Kingfisher man Leslie “Sugarbear” Bates Jr., you head to
your local Walmart and steal some!
Bates was arrested July 22 after security cameras caught him jacking three cases of beer from the store, along with a juvenile. A store
employee reported to police that three cases of beer were stolen around
11:50 p.m. on July 21. He handed over surveillance footage of the alleged robbery.
The footage showed Bates, a woman, and a juvenile female walk into
the store. Bates and the juvenile carried out the cases of beer to a waiting car in front of the store. The woman ran out of the store, and all
three jumped into the car and sped off.
Police recognized the vehicle, and they went to the residence of its owner in search of the
suspects, according to the affidavit. The car owner said she loaned her car to her boyfriend.
She told the officer he brought back three 30 packs of beer.
While speaking to the car owner, officer saw Bates in the house. He admitted to carrying out
a case of beer. He said his cousin carried out the other two packs. He was placed under arrest.
Police located the juvenile, and she also admitted to taking two cases of beer from Walmart.
Bates is being charged with larceny of merchandise from a retailer and contributing to the
delinquency of minors.
He was released on a $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on August 24, 2015.

32-year-old Tory William Ray Ratliff, 32, was arrested July 10 after he was allegedly entering
apartments that weren’t his. He told police he was looking for his ex-girlfriend’s place, because he
had been arguing with his ex-wife and girlfriend.
According to the police report, a Fairview officer was dispatched to some apartments due to an
intruder shortly after 8 p.m. Several residents told the officer a man, later identified as Ratliff, had
walked into their apartments uninvited.
On the way to the scene, the officer spotted a man who matched the description of the suspect.
When the officer stopped, Ratliff raised his arms in the air and said, “I’m right here – you got
me.”
Ratliff had trouble maintaining his balance, and he was obviously under the influence of something.
He asked the officer what was going on. The officer explained he received a call about a man
walking into apartments. Ratliff said after the argument with his ex-wife and girlfriend, he walked
to the apartments to be with his ex-girlfriend.
During the conversation, Ratliff admitted he had been drinking. The officer placed him under
arrest and took him back to the apartment complex. As soon as one of the victims saw the man,
he said, “It’s him.”
Another victim also positively identified Ratliff as the apartment creeper. The officer transported
Ratliff to jail.
During booking, Ratliff said, “I probably was doing stuff in there I shouldn’t have done.”
Ratliff is being charged with burglary in the second degree. He was released on a $24,000 bond
and is scheduled to appear in court on August 13, 2015.
