brother vs brother
Blanchard man Randy Wayne Brownlee Jr,
23, admitted to shooting his brother twice
during a dispute on June 10.
According to the affidavit, a Garvin County
deputy was advised of a shooting at approximately 1:30 p.m. The reporting party said she
found a man, later identified as Brownlee,
walking near NCR 3060 and ECR 1570. The
man told her that he and his brother had been
arguing, and he may have shot his brother
with a .22 gun.
The deputy was advised that a motorist located an injured male near NCR 3065 and
ECR 1568. The motorist took the man to
Lindsay for medical treatment. EMS personnel assessed the man and found two separate gunshot wounds. He was then transported to a hospital in Norman.
Officers went to the man’s residence where three campers were set up. In
one of the campers, they could see a .22-caliber rifle lying on the bed.
An officer met with the victim at the hospital to see what happened. The victim said that his brother had shot him twice with a rifle. He said he was sitting
on his ice chest on his property while Brownlee was in his camper. Brownlee
then shot him from inside the camper. He added he fell to the ground and
thought he was dying. He crawled to the county road, where he was picked
up by the motorist.
The officer learned that the victim had been shot in his right ankle and left
ear, resulting in a brain bleed. He required surgery for his injuries.
Officers made contact with the suspect around 4 p.m. Brownlee admitted to shooting his brother twice, and he told a deputy that the weapon was
inside his camper.
Brownlee is being charged with two counts of shooting with intent to kill.
His bond was set at $1M, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 13,
2018.

ag files murder charges in
carter county on drug dealer
Attorney General Mike Hunter has filed
first-degree murder charges in Carter
County on a Duncan man after an investigation for allegedly selling a lethal dose of
heroin that killed a woman the same day
she purchased the drugs.
According to the affidavit, Howard Timken, Jr., 36, admitted to selling a gram of
heroin and approximately 1.5 grams of
methamphetamine to Kimberly Ford in the
early morning of May 18, 2017, hours before her death.
An interview with a witness, who accompanied Ford to purchase the drugs the day she died, said after she
picked up the drugs in Duncan, she injected herself with what the
witness believed to be a fatal dose of heroin and methamphetamine
while on the way back to Springer. Approximately 10 to 15 minutes
after taking the drugs, the witness said Ford said she ‘felt weird’.
When they arrived to Springer, she began ‘nodding out’. The
witness then drove Ford to an Ardmore hospital, where she died
later that day. The medical examiner ruled her cause of death to be
methamphetamine toxicity.
Attorney General Hunter said his office continues its commitment
to working with statewide law enforcement agencies to investigate
and prosecute drug dealers.
“Drug dealers, who prey on addicts and operate illicit enterprises,
are making a calculated decision, knowing their actions could result in the death of another person,” Attorney General Hunter said.
“This atrocity is fueling the ongoing opioid overdose epidemic that
has claimed thousands of Oklahomans. Charging drug dealers with
first-degree murder when justified by the facts sends a message
to those engaging in this criminal trade to stop or face dire consequences.
Attorney General Hunter is pursuing charges under a law he authored in 1989 while serving as a member of the Oklahoma House
of Representative. The late Sen. Larry Dickerson, D-Poteau, coauthored the bill. The legislation amended Oklahoma law to make
the taking of a life during unlawful distribution or dispensing of controlled, dangerous substances or trafficking illegal drugs eligible for
first – degree murder.

ASSAULT ON A POLICE OFFICER
Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty 11 | JULY 2018 CARTER COUNTY
There are a lot of situations where slang is a bad idea; and asking for “dough”
at a pizza joint is certainly a good example. Funny enough though, the robbers
who made off with a bagful of dough weren’t even victims of a bad pun, they
were just stupid enough to point to a bag behind the counter without verifying
that the bag held money instead of pizza ingredients. The moral of the story is
that when holding someone up, you’re much better off asking them to hand
over the cash than simply pointing to a random bag in the store.
“That’s not mine” just might be one of the oldest excuses in the book when it
comes to illicit substances. While plenty of suspects have tried to say their drug
stash belonged to their friends, most of them weren’t stupid enough to say it
about crack in their butt crack. Even if it was his friend’s crack, it certainly was
under his “control” at the time of the arrest, and that’s all that really matters.
There’s a reason real drug dealers have such a vicious reputation to uphold.
After all, if someone takes their supply, it’s not like they can just call the police.
Amateur drug cultivators aren’t always hip to these rules, which is why it’s not
entirely surprising that a small-time marijuana grower called the police when
someone stole one of his prized plants. The police responded to the crime
immediately –by confiscating his four remaining plants.
Robbing a store is a big gamble. Aside from the risk of getting caught, there’s
also a risk that there won’t be much money in the register at the time. If you
lose that gamble and end up only getting $586 in the hold up (which is actually
pretty decent for a Wendy’s), you probably shouldn’t call the store to complain.
One man learned this the hard way after police tracked him down when he
called a second time to tell the workers they’d better have more money in the
register the next time he robs them.
Everyone loves to get off work early, but it’s one thing to want a half day and
another to commit an act of arson just to get off work. Michelle Perrino caught
the attention of coworkers when she later talked about how the fire started in a
file cabinet before office workers had been informed of the origin of the blaze.
It may not be illegal to be sexist, but it is definitely against the law to hold
your mother hostage when she refuses to do your ironing for you. When Robert
Edward Tyrrell Jr.’s mother said she wouldn’t do his ironing, he yelled, “ironing is
woman’s work,” pulled out a gun and held her hostage for six hours. When he
let her go, she drove straight to the police station to report him.
The whole point of a getaway car is to make a quick, nonchalant escape
from the scene of the crime. While you don’t want the car to be stolen while
you are out committing the crime, if you can’t keep track of your keys, it might
be better to just leave your car open. That’s what Jane Murray found out when
she returned to her getaway car after a bank robbery. She ended up having to
breakout her car window to get back in.

Colorado residents arrested in
Murray County after chase
Four people from Aurora, Colorado,
were locked up after leading police on a
pursuit through Murray County on June
4.
According to reports, the driver,
20-year-old Jonathan Conde, initiated
the chase by speeding through Davis.
When police tried to stop the man, he
accelerated, reaching speeds in excess
of 100 mph.
The pursuit came to an end north of
Sulphur when officers deployed spike
strips on the road to slow the man down.
While searching the vehicle, officers
found small baggies of meth and drug
paraphernalia.
The passengers, Nataly Melero, 20, Neyra Valdez, 20, and 22-yearold Aldo Rojas were all placed under arrest along with Conde.
A two-year-old who was riding in the vehicle and not in a car seat
was taken from the scene and placed into the care of the Department
of Human Services.
Conde is being charged with aggravated eluding a police officer,
child endangerment and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
His bond was set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on August 8, 2018.
Rojas, Melero and Valdez pled guilty to the charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. They were given a deferred sentence
until June 6, 2019.

What are synthetic cannabinoids?
Synthetic cannabinoids are human-made mind-altering chemicals that are either sprayed on
dried, shredded plant material so
they can be smoked or sold as liquids to be vaporized and inhaled
in e-cigarettes and other devices.
These products are also known as
herbal or liquid incense.
These chemicals are called
cannabinoids because they are similar to chemicals found in the
marijuana plant. Because of this similarity, synthetic cannabinoids
are sometimes misleadingly called “synthetic marijuana” (or “fake
weed”), and they are often marketed as safe, legal alternatives to
that drug. In fact, they are not safe and may affect the brain much
more powerfully than marijuana; their actual effects can be unpredictable and, in some cases, more dangerous or even life-threatening.
Synthetic cannabinoids are part of a group of drugs called new
psychoactive substances (NPS). NPS are unregulated mind-altering
substances that have become newly available on the market and
are intended to produce the same effects as illegal drugs. Some
of these substances may have been around for years but have reentered the market in altered chemical forms, or due to renewed
popularity.
Manufacturers sell these products in colorful foil packages and
plastic bottles to attract consumers. They market these products
under a wide variety of specific brand names. Hundreds of brands
now exist, including K2, Spice, Joker, Black Mamba, Kush, and
Kronic.
For several years, synthetic cannabinoid mixtures have been easy
to buy in drug paraphernalia shops, novelty stores, gas stations,
and over the internet. Because the chemicals used in them have
no medical benefit and a high potential for abuse, authorities have
made it illegal to sell, buy, or possess some of these chemicals.
However, manufacturers try to sidestep these laws by changing the
chemical formulas in their mixtures.
Easy access and the belief that synthetic cannabinoid products
are “natural” and therefore harmless, have likely contributed to their
use among young people. Another reason for their continued use is
that standard drug tests cannot easily detect many of the chemicals
used in these products.

KANSAS MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO
FEDERAL HATE CRIME CHARGES
Adam W. Purinton, of Olathe, Kan., pleaded
guilty today in federal court to hate crime and firearm charges for shooting Indian nationals Srinivas
Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani and Olathe resident Ian Grillot at Austins Bar & Grill in February
2017.
The announcement was made by U.S. Attorney Stephen McAllister, Acting Associate Attorney Purinton previously pleaded guilty to state
charges for murder and attempted murder arising
out of the shooting. He was sentenced earlier in
May to life in state prison.
A few weeks before the shooting, Purinton was
sitting by himself in the bar area at Austins Bar
& Grill when, coincidentally, Kuchibhotla and Madasani happened to be having a drink on the patio. Noticing the two men,
Purinton commented to a regular sitting at the bar, “Did you see the terrorists
on the patio?”
On Feb. 22, 2017, Purinton drove to Austins Bar & Grill and sat by himself
at a table on the enclosed front patio. Sitting at the table to his left were Ian
Grillot and several other patrons. Sitting at the table to his right were Srinivas
Kuchibhotla and Alok Madasani.
At approximately 6:40 p.m., Purinton approached Kuchibhotla and Madasani, and demanded to know where they were from and how they entered
the country. Purinton poked Kuchibhotla in the chest, called him a “terrorist”
and an epithet disparaging persons of Middle Eastern descent, and shouted,
“Get out of my country!” Ian Grillot and another patron interceded, told Purinton that he needed to leave, and escorted him out of the bar.
Purinton drove home and retrieved one of his guns: a Taurus PT111 Millennium Pro nine-millimeter semi-automatic pistol with serial number TEW13121.
To disguise his identity, Purinton changed into a different shirt and grabbed a
blue-and-white scarf.
At approximately 7:12 p.m., Purinton returned to Austins Bar & Grill. He
wrapped the scarf around his face to disguise his identity and exited his truck
carrying his semi-automatic pistol. Purinton walked over to the enclosed front
patio, opened the door, aimed his semi-automatic pistol at Kuchibhotla and
Madasani, and fired eight rounds—at least four of which struck Kuchibhotla,
who died from his injuries, and one of which struck Madasani, who was injured, but survived. Hours after the shooting, Purinton stated over the phone
to a friend, and later in person to a bartender, that he had just killed some
Iranians.
Purinton admitted that he shot Kuchibhotla and Madasani, attempting to kill
both men, because of their race, color, religion, and national origin.
After shooting Kuchibhotla and Madasani, Purinton ran out, and Ian Grillot
chased after him. As Grillot caught up to him, Purinton turned around and
shot Grillot, who was injured but survived.
Purinton faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, which is the sentence that the prosecution and defense are
jointly requesting. Sentencing is scheduled for July 2.

A McClain County inmate tried his
hardest to escape being locked up when
he ran out of the jail on June 8.
Unfortunately for Moore man Austin
Reed Haralson, he didn’t make it far.
The 25-year-old was located mere minutes after leaving the jail, hiding in a mail
container. His goal was freedom, but he
just earned himself some more charges.
Reports state Haralson was in the jail
on a warrant for failure to appear- possession of CDS charge from Oklahoma
City. He briefly escaped by pushing down
a nurse as she was leaving and running
out of the open Sally port door.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including Purcell police officers,
McClain County deputies and rangers with Oklahoma Game were involved in the search, which only lasted 3-4 minutes.
When Haralson ran out of the jail, he took off into a vacant lot where
he lost his sandals. He then ran barefoot over some rocks and hot
pavement on Main Street before jumping into a mail container behind
the post office, where officers found him.
Haralson is being charged with battery/assault and battery on police
officer and attempting to escape from prison other than penitentiary.
His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on June 27, 2018.

Although they are not a substitute for treatment, self-help groups like 12-step programs
can be a great source of support and encouragement while a person is engaged in treatment,
and after. The most well-known self-help groups
are those affiliated with Alcoholics Anonymous
(AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and Cocaine
Anonymous (CA), all of which are based on the
12-step model.
Most drug addiction treatment programs encourage patients to participate
in a self-help group during and after formal treatment. These groups can be
particularly helpful during recovery, as they are a source of ongoing communal support and encouragement to stay drug free. Information on local meetings can be found on their websites. Support groups for family members of
people with addictions, like Al-anon and Alateen, can also be helpful.
There are other groups in the private sector that can provide a lot of support. To find meetings in your area, contact local hospitals, treatment centers, or faith-based organizations. These organizations often coordinate support groups for substance abuse.
