Rolling a stop sign gave a Tonkawa man much more than a
speeding ticket March 24.
Just before 2 p.m. that day, Kay County deputy chief Nicholas Grove reported seeing a black Ford drive past a stop sign in
the city, so he initiated a traffic stop immediately after. When
he approached the truck, he confronted Bobby Belt, 47, and
immediately smelled alcohol coming from inside.
Belt, who admitted to being drunk before 2 p.m., got out of
the truck, saying he had “2 or 3” beers. He also told Grove he
had open containers of Keystone Light beer and let the officer
take them out of the truck. Unfortunately for Belt, however,
Grove saw a syringe on the seat of the truck.
Belt was arrested for drunken driving and his car was
searched. During the search, Grove found more syringes and
a silver tin can with 10 clear bags inside, all containing crystal
meth. Also, he found two sets of scales and packages for sale, as well as two pill bottles and
a rolled marijuana cigarette.
Belt, an ex-con, has five felony drug-related convictions on his record, which date back to
2007. He also has multiple drunk driving and theft-related convictions on his record, and
he’s been in and out of state prisons since 1990. He was last released from prison in 2010,
according to his rap sheet.
Belt posted a $20,000 bond April 1. He’s due back in court at 2 p.m. July 12.

A Bartlesville woman’s idea of celebrating 4/20 landed her in lockup
on two felony complaints.
Just before midnight that day, Bartlesville police officer Travis Martinez went to the 700 block of Southeast Seneca Avenue after getting
a burglary report. He arrived to see an elderly female, who reported
Laura Roberts, 36, forced her way into the house. She didn’t know Roberts, but said she was wearing a light green top and black polka-dotted
shorts. The woman ran from the house before police arrived, she said.
Soon after, Martinez heard a scream coming from where Roberts ran.
He ran over and saw Roberts lying on the ground near an apartment
complex, and, realizing she was drunk, started to talk to her. Roberts
had a hard time keeping her head straight due to her drunkenness, Martinez said.
The elderly woman said she cracked open the front door open to see who was trying to
come in, only to have Roberts push her way in, then take away her phone when she tried to
call police. Roberts also pushed her down and made her fall in the living room, all while her
husband stood witness, she said.
Roberts was arrested for public intoxication, strong-arm robbery and first-degree burglary
complaints. She faces a first-degree burglary charge, as well as the intoxication claim.
Roberts pleaded not guilty to the charges April 22 and she has a court date set for 9 a.m.
May 3. Her bond is set at $20,000, providing she doesn’t try to contact the victim in the case.

Kyle T: He walked out knowing the bear was
there, brought a shotgun, he intended to kill
it the whole time. I like how this story makes
him out to be the victim.
A 76-year-old Auburn, Massachusetts man, Richard Ahlstrand,
had spotted a black bear in his backyard around his bird feeders.
He went to fill up his bird feeders, and as a precaution, he took
his shotgun. Sure enough, the black bear showed up and started
to chase the old man. The man aimed his shotgun at the bear
and shot it, killing the bear.
Now he’s facing charges for illegally killing the bear, illegally
baiting the bear, illegal possession of a firearm and failure to
secure a weapon. Because he “murdered” the bear, police confiscated his shotgun as well as
two others he had in his possession. Ahlstrand pointed out the idiocy of his elected officials:
“They got me set up now like I’m some kind of murderer. And then the environmental guy
told me, ‘You should have called me instead of shooting it.’ What was I going to do, say ‘Mister
Bear, would you excuse me please while I go make a phone call?’”
Authorities thought that the bear may have had cubs, but as Ahlstrand hadn’t shot the bear,
he may not be here today. He was sure it would have at least mauled him. Ahlstrand recalled
that the bear was about 7 feet tall when it stood on its hind legs, and he estimated it weighed
around 300 or 400 pounds.
Officials say the man “baited” the bear with birdseed... Because we all know that bird seed is
only used to bait bears.

A Pawhuska man is facing a felony
theft charges after he was caught redhanded stealing copper.
Lee Charles Smith, 26, was charged
April 11 with possession of stolen copper in Osage County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, deputies were called to an oil
lease near Wynona on a complaint that
someone stole wire off the property.
The owner of the property called his
lease and let him know someone was
stealing wire. He also said he saw the
truck and described it to him. The victim then knew exactly who had taken
the wire.
Deputies saw the truck traveling northbound on Highway 99 and
then pull into a convenient store by the gas pumps. The evidence
was in the back of Lee’s truck. He denied he had stolen it, but tire
tracks in the mud at the crime scene matched up with the ones on
Lee’s truck.
Lee was transported to the Osage County Jail and booked. Bail was
set at $5,000 and he was ordered back to court May 9 at 3 p.m.

A convicted rapist was once again jailed after he
was found passed out behind the wheel of his pickup
in someone’s driveway.
Steven Sanders, 25, of Cleveland, was charged
April 12 with APC, TOC, trespassing, and violation
of drivers license restrictions. A motion to revoke his
suspended sentence on rape and kidnapping charges
was filed April 16.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Pawnee
Deputy Steve Seely was called to a home near Keystone Lake around midnight on April 6 about a person passed out inside a
vehicle in the driveway. When Seely arrived at the house, he found Sanders
asleep at the wheel. His seat was reclined back and his truck was still running. An open can of Coors Light was in the cup holder next to the driver.
Seely, with much ado, tried to wake Sanders up. When he finally came
to, he was very disorientated and didn’t know where he was. Seely asked
if he had been drinking and Sanders wholeheartedly admitted he had. He
said he was on his way home when he took a wrong turn. A run on Sanders’ license revealed he had an interlock restriction on his license, but no
interlock was found in the truck.
Sanders was transported to the Pawnee County Jail for booking.
