A federal court jury deliberated
only about three hours on Jan. 29
before finding Ivan Bennett Willis, 22, from Choctaw, Mississippi,
guilty of aggravated sexual abuse in
Indian Country, announced Sanford
C. Coats, United States Attorney for
the Western District of Oklahoma.
According to evidence presented
at trial, on September 22, 2013,
Willis forcibly raped a minor female
victim in a home in the White Eagle
Indian community in Ponca City.
The trial lasted three days and the jury deliberated approximately three hours before finding Willis guilty.
At sentencing, Willis faces a prison sentence of up to life
in prison. A sentencing date will be set by the court in approximately 90 days.

With this most recent ice
and snow storm that gripped
Oklahoma, there obviously were
some significant obstacles to safe driving. One that I have noticed,
that doesn’t really get a lot of attention, is the visibility that is
obstructed by iced over windshields and windows on vehicles. I’m
going to touch on some of that, to try to raise some awareness
about it, and give some tips to help us stay safe.
We’ve all seen it...a vehicle coming down the road with just a
small hole scraped in the windshield so the driver could see the
road. Every time I see it, I cringe! The law that governs this is
Oklahoma State Statute 47:12-404.C, which states: “No person
shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign, poster, other nontransparent material, or debris, including but not limited to snow,
ice, or frost upon the front windshield or the side wings, or side
or rear windows......which obstructs, obscures, or impairs the
driver’s clear view of the highway ahead or to either side or of any
intersecting highway.” What this means to the everyday driver is
that the little hole you scraped to drive by, just won’t cut it! While
compliance is the goal, the reason is safety! Obviously the chances
of an accident drastically increase as visibility decreases...so why
limit our vision to just a small hole out the front windshield?
There are several ways to clear those windshields, both
mechanically and chemically. A simple ice scraper has been the
preferred method for as long as most people can remember. They
are inexpensive, and easy to find. Another method is simply to
go out 10 minutes before you leave, start your car up, and get the
defroster going! When the windows are clear, you are good to go.
Still another way is to obtain any number of chemical de-icing
sprays that are available at most stores. Don’t pour hot water
on your windows, as the change in temperatures can cause your
window to crack or break!
While we are talking about it, lets not forget about those side and
rear widows. A significant percentage of accidents happen while
backing, so it stands to reason that we need to be able to see out
our back glass as well as the front. Side windows are no different,
no one wants to be struck by a vehicle they couldn’t see when they
pull into an intersection. After you finish with those side windows,
go ahead and hit those side mirrors as well!
All of these suggestions simply take a little extra time, and
sometimes money, but the time and money pale in comparison to
the impact on time and money that an accident will have on you, or
others. As a safe, courteous driver, you owe it to yourself and your
fellow drivers! Thanks for reading, buckle up and be safe!

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 6:48 pm Bartlesville
Police responded to a Robbery call at the CVS
Pharmacy located at 3711 SE Frank Phillips.
When Officers arrived on scene they spoke to
a female clerk who stated a male subject wearing
all black clothing had just robbed the store. The
clerk stated the man implied he had a gun and
wanted all of the money in the cash register. No
one inside the store was injured and the pharmacy part of the store was not involved. The man
left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash running south.
The store was locked down to preserve any evidence and Officers
began looking for the suspect in the immediate area.
Investigators were called to the scene and began interviewing the
clerk and reviewing the store video surveillance. Investigators also
began canvasing other businesses in the immediate area and were
able to develop a suspect who had been seen in the area of the store
during the time the robbery took place.
At 9:00 pm Investigators located the suspect who was staying in
a room at the Travelers motel, which is approximately a ¼ of a mile
west of the CVS Store on Frank Phillips.
The suspect was identified as 29 year old Jason Wayne Gaghins
and he was taken to the Police station along with his roommate for
questioning about the robbery.
At 11:10 pm Investigators placed Jason Wayne Gaghins under arrest for armed robbery. Investigators then served a search warrant
on the motel room Gaghins had been staying in and recovered more
evidence from the robbery.
While Investigators reviewed the surveillance video they observed
the suspect stood outside the front door of the CVS Pharmacy for a
period of time as customers left the building.
Investigators are asking for anyone who may have visited the store
around 6:44 pm and saw anything suspicious to contact the investigations division at 918-338-4015.

An Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office deputy noticed a pickup truck
make an unsafe lane change in the
northbound lane of I-35 near N.E.
122nd Street. The deputy stopped
the vehicle and spoke with the driver,
46-year old Rafael Armando Rocha,
of Rowland Heights, California.
While speaking with Rocha he gave
the deputy permission to search his
truck. On the rear passenger side the
deputy noticed a black suitcase, and
inside the suitcase the deputy found 25-kilos of cocaine (55lbs).
Rocha was booked into the Oklahoma County jail on a complaint of Trafficking
cocaine base
On February 16, 2015 Rocha posted bond of $25,000.00, and has been released
from jail.

A Claremore man claimed he was holding
a friend’s pipe when a police officer found
him lying in a ditch in Bartlesville on February 6.
Raymond Emmril Monty Alberty III, 42,
was arrested for suspicion of possession of
CDS for the pipe, but more drugs were found
on the man when the officer took him to jail.
An Osage County deputy was advised by
dispatch that someone had called in about
a man lying in a ditch near the entrance to
a casino in Bartlesville, according to the affidavit. The deputy found Alberty lying facedown on the west side of the casino. He asked the man to stand up and
asked if he had any weapons on his person.
Alberty started to reach into his pocket, so the officer told him to place
his hands on top of his head. Alberty was acting nervous, and he kept
pulling away whenever the officer tried to check him for weapons.
The deputy was eventually able to search the man. He felt something
in the man’s pocket. Alberty pulled away again, and the deputy asked
him if he had something in his pocket. The man replied, “Yes, a pipe, but
I was just holding it for a friend.”
The deputy reached into his pocket and pulled out a glass smoking
pipe with a white residue.
According to the officer, he recognized it was a “type of pipe being
commonly used by individuals to consume methamphetamine.”
He placed Alberty under arrest and transported him to jail.
Before entering the jail, the deputy asked Alberty if he had anything
else illegal on his person.
Alberty told the officer he knew how the system worked, and he didn’t
have anything on him.
Once again, Alberty probably wasn’t telling the truth -- a corrections
officer found a small baggy containing a crystal substance in the sleeve
of the man’s sweater. The substance field-tested positive for methamphetamine.
Alberty is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous
substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was
set at $10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on April 9, 2015.

A Pawnee man who chased his girlfriend around the
house soon found himself being chased by police after the
woman’s neighbors called 911.
According to the police report, police arrested Jimson Lee
Shaw, 31, on February 4 for domestic assault after he allegedly threatened the woman with a knife.
Pawnee officer were dispatched to the 100 block of Mose
Yellow Horse Drive shortly after 2 a.m. for a domestic in
progress. Police were advised the suspect, identified as
Shaw, had possibly fled the scene.
When an officer arrived, he saw Shaw’s headlights come
on and the man’s vehicle took off traveling eastbound. The
officer turned on his emergency lights and followed the
man. Shaw didn’t stop, and he continued driving, picking
up speed, until he was traveling in excess of 70 mph on 4300 Road.
Shaw’s vehicle eventually came to a stop on 35100 Road, and police ordered the man out
of his vehicle. Shaw kept yelling, “No, and I said wait a f------ minute. Stay the f--- back!”
Police blocked the man in, and he was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
The victim told police she was at home when she heard someone knock on the door. Shaw
was at the door, rocking back and forth. He asked her who was inside the house, then he
forced his way in, claiming he knew the woman had been cheating on him.
Shaw followed the woman around the home and demanded to see her phone. When she
said no, he became angry and pulled a knife out of his pocket. He stabbed the wall beside
the woman.
Shaw continued to get angrier, and the woman fled her residence and told her neighbors
to call 911. She said Shaw left the house, jumped in his truck and took off driving down the
road. The next thing she knew, police were chasing the man.
Shaw is being charged with domestic assault with a dangerous weapon and eluding/attempting to elude police officer. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on February 24, 2015.
