What you’re saying
about this on...
Peggy C: I NEVER text or talk on my phone while I’m driving but I have been in
the car with a woman who was calling her brother or husband trying to get directions and
I had to sit there and pray that we wouldn’t crash into something! So yea, I’m very happy
to see this law go into effect!
Bradd R: Your opening statement is not factual. It will not be illegal to use your
cell phone while driving. It will be illegal to use social media, read or write emails or to read
or send text messages while operating a motor vehicle.
Julie H: I don’t think the police will stop and if we have too they also should have
too. I don’t talk while driving to risky.
Walter C: Im not a cop hater but i see alot of cops on theyre phone while driving
hope they stop to
Leland S: Same here in Arkansas . Was almost sideswiped 2 times last week. She
was texting!
Brandon H: I never talk or text while driving ..when you drive you are responsible for yourself and the safety of others on the road ...and I feel if you text while driving
you should have your license yanked for you are not safe enough or responsible enough to
drive
Jerry H: I have Bluetooth. Keep my phone in my purse
Toni D: I see people texting all the time makes me crazy sure hope it helps stop
people from doing it...
Cory W: Hit the ignore button because it can wait
The new law making it illegal to use cell phones while driving is taking effect in
November. Will this law deter you from texting/talking while driving? If so, what
are you doing now to change?
KJRH posted this story. We’re curious
as to what our readers would do.
Adam H: Pfft. I see that everywhere. I’m a truck driver and see it happen everyday on the road. It never fails. I’ve even seen law enforcement do it
Debra C: I never text or talk and drive but I hope it stops people from doing it
but I don’t think it will. Even police officer’s talk on on there phone’s and drive you see it
every day
Melinda C: I’ve saw bus drivers on their phones with a bus full of children... I’m
glad to see this going into effect.
Merlin K: Get hands free for your car
Teresa H: It’s been in effect in Nevada for a couple years and people still ignore
it..frown emoticon
Ryan M: Thank you Nannystatists
Tim M: About dam time phone users are worse then drunk drivers at least a drunk
is looking at the road unlike texting
Tony G: it isn’t going to change nothing I see cops do it every single day.
Jonathan M: Hell no!
Karen M: Just in Oklahoma?
Boyd W: If they ara looking at you hard enough to see you’re on your phone they
aren’t watching their own driving
Cliff S: More Government telling me how to live.

What do you get when you have a felon and a gun for sale?
Some handcuffs and a trip to jail!
Felon Jason Emery Dodd, 31, got caught trying to sell a firearm on August 19. The Wilburton man was arrested for having
the gun and using a two-way radio for illegal purposes.
According to the police report, a Wilburton police officer was
first alerted to Dodd’s activities when a man contacted the police
department and said Dodd was trying to sell him a .50-caliber
muzzle loader. The officer went to the convenience store where
the two men agreed to meet. When the officer saw Dodd get into
a truck and leave the area, he stopped the vehicle and made contact with Dodd, who was sitting in the passenger seat.
Dodd admitted that he had a gun in his vehicle. He told the
officer he bought the gun a week before and was now trying to
sell it.
When the officer used his radio to check the driver’s license, he noticed that Dodd had a
two-way radio clipped to his pocket. He then walked up to the truck and saw a muzzle loader
behind the seat. He immediately placed the man under arrest and transported him to jail.
Dodd told the officer he was a convicted felon.
Dodd is being charged with possession of firearm after felony conviction and unlawful
use of police radio. He was released on an OR bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
September 1, 2015.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Grant woman Angela Arlo Davidson, 51, allegedly pointed
a gun and threatened to shoot a family during an altercation
on August 21. She was arrested for the incident, but told a
deputy she didn’t point a gun – it was actually a skinny bat.
According to the police report, a Choctaw County deputy
was dispatched to the Grant school due to a fight involving
a gun and baseball bat. When police arrived, three victims,
one of them a juvenile, and school staff were waiting outside.
The victims and witnesses told police that one of the victims was changing a flat when Davidson and a man pulled up
in the parking lot. The man started hitting the victim with a
baseball bat, so the victim said he defended himself. He said
he may have used a tire iron, but he couldn’t remember.
During the fight, Davidson got out of the vehicle with a
“camouflage” firearm and pointed it at the victims, including the juvenile boy. She told them,
“Get back or I will shoot you.”
Witnesses at the scene said both Davidson and the man with her appeared to be intoxicated at the time.
The deputy went to a residence to speak to the couple. The man wasn’t there, but Davidson
was. She told the deputy she and her accomplice drove by the school to make sure a student
(the juvenile victim) had a ride home from school. Davidson said one of the victims waved
them over. The man got out of the vehicle, and she said the victim started hitting him with
a tire iron.
When the deputy asked her why the man got out of the car with a baseball bat, she said
she didn’t know. She denied having a gun, but said she threatened to shoot the victim with a
“skinny baseball bat.” She admitted that the victims didn’t know the difference between the
bat and a gun. When the deputy asked her where the bat was, she told him her accomplice
threw it out of the window somewhere on the old Grant highway.
Davidson is being charged with three counts of feloniously pointing firearm. She was released on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 29, 2015.

People usually try to avoid jails – especially those
who like to partake in illegal substances.
Not 26-year-old Esequiel Simental, apparently.
The Oklahoma City man was arrested when police
found him sitting in his vehicle at the Jackie Brannon Correctional Center with some marijuana and
rolling papers.
On August 23, a Pittsburg County deputy was
dispatched to the prison around 3:50 p.m. to investigate a suspicious vehicle that was on prison
grounds. He found the vehicle parked at the front
gate. When he walked up to the car, he immediately
smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the
passenger’s side.
The man in the passenger seat identified himself
as Simental.
Dispatch advised the deputy Simental had a “long criminal history” and several
active warrants out of Canadian County, according to the affidavit.
Maybe he was there to turn himself in?
The deputy asked the man to step out of the vehicle, and he placed him under
arrest for his warrants. Simental told the deputy there was a “little bit” of marijuana in the vehicle and told the deputy where to find it. The deputy also found a
large amount of weed and some rolling papers on the man’s person.
The driver of the vehicle was issued tickets and his vehicle was towed from
prison grounds.
Simental is being charged with unauthorized entry into prison, possession of
controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
His bond was set at $15,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 18, 2015.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
One of the things that is becoming more
prevalent, and with the passing of the new
open carry law, will only continue to rise, is the
number of people walking and driving around armed. For law enforcement, this
obviously creates some challenges in our dealings with the public. I am going to
attempt to explain what we would like from the citizens who choose to go armed,
and what they can expect from us.
First, all people who wish to carry a gun on their person are required to
attend an approved concealed carry class. This goes for those who wish to carry
concealed or open. Upon completion of the course and the requirements needed,
you will be issued a Concealed Carry License, or CCL. Let me point out, that
having a CCL is a privilege, not a right. It is issued by the state, and with it come
some responsibilities.
One of those responsibilities, and the one that is most important to us law
enforcement professionals, is the obligation to notify us IMMEDIATELY upon
contact. Lets say you get stopped for speeding and you are a CCL holder and are
armed, whether it is on your person or just in your vehicle. The Trooper gets out
of their car and asks you to step back to them with your driver’s license and proof
of insurance. You should, before anything else, declare that you have a CCL and
are armed. Don’t wait until we see the CCL in your wallet to tell us....that’s too
late! They will then instruct you on what they would like you to do to address this
situation. There are several things we may do at this point to accomplish this.
We may ask you to say (not reach for or move towards) where the weapon is.
Simply say the location, keeping your hands on the steering wheel or where they
can be seen. If its on your person, we may wish to disarm you for the duration of
the traffic stop, and will give instructions accordingly. We may simply separate
the weapon from the ammunition and make the weapon safe, and then leave it
in your vehicle. Each officer will handle this in the way that he or she chooses
in order to maintain their own safety. None of these methods are meant to infer
that we feel threatened by a CCL holder, or that we think you are a criminal or
bad person. They are simply ways that we can deal with the issue of a gun being
present in order to maintain our safety and the safety of others.
Hopefully, this will give you some guidelines on what we are expecting
when you come in contact with us while carrying a firearm. With respect and
understanding, we can all feel safe with an armed citizen, while respecting that
citizen’s right to carry. Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!
Tips from a Trooper

Walmart boasts about its low prices, but its prices sometimes
aren’t low enough – even for its own employees.
A Stigler Walmart employee was arrested August 20 for taking five-finger discounts from her own place of work. 40-year-old
Jennifer Emily Ruth Farris admitted to stealing as much as $450
worth of merchandise from the store during her employment.
According to the police report, a Stigler officer was dispatched
to the store in the 1300 block of E. Highway 9 shortly after 11
p.m. because an employee had just been caught “embezzling”
from the establishment.
When he arrived, some employees told him they had video
evidence of Farris stealing stuff from Walmart on multiple occasions.
One of the employees said Farris admitted to stealing more
than $450 worth of stuff. At that time, they had only confirmed that she took about $120 in
merchandise.
The employee gave the officer a handwritten statement in which Farris admitted she was
guilty for taking the items from the store. When the officer asked her if that was her handwriting, she told him yes. She also said that everything on the statement was true, and no one
forced her to admit that she took the items from the store.
Due to the woman’s admission of guilt, the officer placed her under arrest and transported
her to the Haskell County Jail.
Farris is being charged with embezzlement. Her bond was set at $1,000.

A Centrahoma man couldn’t seem to help himself when he saw a
game camera on another man’s property. 22-year-old Timothy Grant
Sherwood Jr. was arrested August 16 for allegedly stealing the game
camera while with a 16-year-old juvenile.
According to the affidavit, a man contacted the Coal County Sheriff’s Office shortly after 6 p.m. and told a deputy that someone had
stolen a game camera off his property. He said a picture of the vehicle involved in the theft had been sent to his phone via text message.
The man said he knew who took it – he found Sherwood and the boy
walking on his property, along with an ATV that matched the picture
from the game camera.
The deputy found Sherwood at a residence on Jones and Sixth
Street. He told the man he was there for the camera.
Sherwood asked, “What camera?”
The deputy told him he had a picture of the four-wheeler that was in the yard of the residence that the game camera sent to the owner’s phone.
Sherwood said, “Oh, that camera. It’s in the house.”
About that time, Sherwood’s juvenile accomplice stepped out of the residence and told police, “The camera is in the house.” He took a deputy into the house to get the stolen item.
Police retrieved the camera, which matched the serial number the victim provided them
with.
Sherwood was placed under arrest and transported to jail. He is being charged with grand
larceny, knowingly concealing stolen property and contributing to the delinquency of minors.
His bond was set at $31,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on September 3, 2015.

An Antlers police officer got an earful from 28-year-old Jimmy Joe Kyle’s wife when he tried to arrest the man
on August 22. The wife’s threats weren’t enough to keep the Antlers man out of jail, however.
According to the police report, the officer first saw Kyle get into the driver’s seat of a car shortly after 5 p.m.
Knowing that the man didn’t have a valid license, the officer attempted to pull the man’s vehicle over, but Kyle
had other plans.
Kyle led the officer on a chase down a few streets before eventually stopping in front of a residence in the 200
block of SE Second Street. The officer took out his gun and ordered Kyle to get out of the vehicle.
Kyle kept moving around and asking the officer, “What did I do?”
Just then, the missus stepped out onto the porch and yelled at the officer to put his gun up. The officer obeyed
and took out his Taser. Kyle steadily made his way onto the front porch and tried to run into the house. The officer
deployed his Taser, knocking the man over right into the house. Kyle kicked the door shut.
The officer ran onto the porch and kicked it back open, yelling at the man to come outside. Kyle started yelling from around a corner,
“I didn’t do anything!”
His wife kept yelling at the officer, “Get off of him!” The officer told her he would as soon as the man started listening to him.
It was obvious who wore the pants in that family, because Kyle’s wife said, “I will get him then,” and pushed the officer to the side.
The officer told her EMS needed to take the Taser probes out of him. She replied, “If he dies, so do you!”
The officer told her to simmer down, or she was going to go to jail, too.
He eventually got Kyle out of the house and medical personnel made sure the man was alright.
After all that excitement, the officer told Kyle he tried to stop him because he knew the man didn’t have a valid license.
Kyle told him he freaked out and didn’t know what to do.
Kyle is being charged with attempting to elude police officer, resisting arrest and driving under suspension. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 14, 2015.

Atoka man Onie Chambers, 58, thought he found a get out of
jail free card when he escaped from the Howard McLeod Correctional Center on August 23. He met who he thought was going to take him to sweet freedom -- instead, he was taken back
to jail.
According to the affidavit, Chambers escaped from the prison
sometime before 8 p.m. The sex offender was nowhere to be
found on prison grounds -- but it wouldn’t be long before he
was back in his cell.
The next day, Chambers approached a man on some lease
land approximately 3.5 miles north of the prison and asked him
for a ride to the Red River. The man noticed that Chambers was
wearing some gray clothing that appeared to be what inmates
wore. The man acted fast and told Chambers to get in the back of
his truck. He said he would take him to the river, but he didn’t.
The man drove back to the correctional center with Chambers lying in the bed of his truck
thinking the Red River was about to take him to freedom. When the man drove into the parking lot, Chambers realized freedom isn’t that easy. He suddenly realized where they were and
jumped out of the moving truck. He fell, rolled to his feet and ran into a ditch.
Prison employees saw the escapee and ran after the man. He was placed under arrest,
again, and taken back to his cell.
Chambers is being charged with escaping from department of corrections. He is being held
without bond. Court date was unknown at time of print.

Porum man Dakota Brock Wright,
19, managed to rack up a slew of
charges on August 16 after he allegedly instigated a fight with another man
due to the victim’s race. He was arrested and taken to jail after he continued
the fight by assaulting a police officer.
At approximately 9:36 p.m., a McIntosh County deputy was dispatched
to the Rolling Oaks boat ramp parking
lot to investigate a fight. People at the
scene told the deputy Wright had been
the one fighting.
Wright walked toward the deputy,
pointed at a man in the crowd and
yelled, “That n----- hit me!”
He tried to walk past the deputy to get to the man, threatening to
“whoop” the man’s ass, according to the affidavit.
When the deputy told him to stand still, Wright replied, “F--- you.”
He then threatened to whoop the deputy’s ass. He tried to hit the
deputy, but the deputy caught his arm.
Police tried to put handcuffs on the man, but he started kicking,
so officers took him to the ground. He continued to be combative,
and even after being placed in handcuffs, he kicked a deputy in the
groin twice.
Witnesses said the fight started when Wright called the victim a
“n-----.” He then hit the victim in the back of the head. The victim
fought back and punched Wright twice in the face.
Even after he was arrested, Wright kept yelling, “I’m going to kill
all of you n------!”
He also smelled strongly like alcohol.
Wright is being charged with battery/assault and battery on police officer, resisting an officer, threaten to perform act of violence
and public intoxication. He was released on a $10,000 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on October 22, 2015.

An Eagletown woman unknowingly led
authorities to some marijuana and pills
after she left her wallet at a casino promotions booth.
According to the police report, a Broken Bow police officer was dispatched to
the casino shortly after 2 a.m. Dispatch
advised security had a wallet containing a
green leafy substance and some pills. Security told the officer the wallet had been
left at the promotions booth by a woman
later identified as 41-year-old Donna Sue
Booth.
When security looked in the wallet for
some identification, they found the pills and green substance.
Security took the officer to the wallet and Booth, who was still there
filling out a statement.
Booth admitted the wallet was hers but told the officer that the bag
containing the green leafy substance was not hers. She told the officer she didn’t know where it came from.
The pills were identified as Clonazepam, which is only available by
prescription. Booth said a coworker gave them to her.
The officer reviewed casino security footage and watched as Booth
walked up to the promotions booth and set her wallet on the counter.
She pulled out her identification and set it beside the wallet before
walking away.
The officer field tested the green leafy substance – it was marijuana.
Booth was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
She is being charged with unlawful possession of controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of controlled dangerous
substance without a prescription. She was released on a $1,500 bond
and is scheduled to appear in court on September 16, 2015.
