McCurtain County police arrested
a burglary suspect in Broken Bow after a high-speed chase ended with the
discovery of a large amount of burnt
copper in the suspect’s vehicle.
Police say they took the suspect,
26-year-old Jeffery Chad Richbourg,
of Broken Bow, into custody while
they were investigating burglaries
that had occurred in the area during
the past few months.
According to the affidavit, police
saw Richbourg driving a pickup pulling a small trailer and followed him
down a long driveway. Although innocent until proven guilty, Richbourg definitely didn’t do much for
the case of his innocence when he saw police.
He swerved in the opposite direction and led them on a high-speed
chase down Highway 70. The burglary suspect forced several motorists off the road and drove into oncoming traffic.
During the chase, Richbourg threw a large metal “C” clamp out his
window in an attempt to hit the officer’s patrol car. The pursuit ended with a short foot chase before Richbourg was taken into custody.
Officers found a large amount of burnt copper wire, a large winch,
assorted tools and wire while searching Richbourg’s vehicle. They
also found copper wire, a smaller winch, a lawn mower motor and
assorted metal in the trailer.
The metal-throwing motorist is being charged with assault and
battery with a dangerous weapon, willfully throwing or dropping
any substance at a moving vehicle, and endangering others while
eluding/ attempting to elude police. Richbourg is being held on a
$10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 10, 2013.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Oklahoma has a lot of rural
areas, and is crisscrossed with
county roads. In those rural areas,
these county roads are traveled extensively, and as a result, around
50% of all accidents occur on them. The majority of those are due to
unsafe speeds. Most of these roads don’t have a posted speed limit,
so how is a driver to even know what the legal speed is? I’m going
to try and give some insight into that.
First, by state law, the speed limit on all county roads in the
state that aren’t otherwise posted is 55 miles per hour. Wait, you
might say...I heard the speed limit in my county on county roads
is 35, or 45. You are probably correct. The reason some counties
have a speed limit that is different on their county roads is because
the Board of County Commissioners for that county can set by
resolution a maximum speed limit for their roads. So how do you
know what the speed limit is for each county?
Posted on the county line marker, wherever a state highway
enters a county, and at all off-ramps where Interstates or Turnpikes
enter a county, there is a sign advising the driver of the speed limit
for non-posted county roads which will read as follows: ENTERING
________ COUNTY, COUNTY ROAD SPEED LIMIT _____MPH
UNLESS POSTED OTHERWISE.
Keep your eyes out next time you cross a county line, and see if
you see a sign like this, because they are out there. Now, if you don’t
see the signs, that means that in that particular county, the County
Commissioners did not change the speed limit on those county
roads, and the speed limit is 55 MPH as set by state law. For those
of you that would like to see this information, you can find it in the
Oklahoma State Statutes, Title 47-11-801F.
Now that we know the speed limit on these roads, lets talk about
the unsafe speeds that usually result in accidents. Most are due to
driving too fast on the type or roadway, specifically gravel, or on a
curve or turn. Just because the speed limit is 55, doesn’t mean that
you have to go that fast, and you should adjust your speed to the
conditions...if its gravel, and you are sliding around, you are going
too fast. Gravel is tricky, it doesn’t have the same grip as pavement,
and the depth and type of gravel all play a role in the traction you
have, which affects your stopping ability. If you are unfamiliar with
the road, be aware that it could be a T intersection, or a 90 degree
turn on the back side of a hill... adjust your speed to your abilities,
the conditions present, and potential conditions you may not know
about!
I hope this clears some things up on those county roads! Thanks
for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

What you’re saying
about this on...
MrsCathy T: the phrase legal limit for drunk
driving scares me no matter what the percentage is.
Brittany W: Yes! I wish the legal limit was
anything over 0.0 . And so many people drink and
drive. Makes me sick!
Clay A: The plan is great, but why isn’t there any
system in place to cut down on drunk driving?
Bars can stay open til 2:00AM, so how are people
supposed to get home? I’m not advocating drinking
and driving in any way, but shouldn’t the point be
implement a way to get people home safely?
Dylan G: So if I drink two beers I still can’t drive
an hour later? World is crazy
Sandy H: Great News
Jason C: Next thing you know if you had a beer
this WEEK, ..... going to jail ....
Jessie C: Drunk driving is still drunk driving
regardless of what your BAC percentage is.
Jason S: So now we’re drunk after a sip? I didnt
know cabbies had the money/power to use as
lobbyist, to get their way here
Jarrod M: Love it
Ronda W: I don’t think its going to make
any difference people are going to drive drunk
regardless of what the “legal limit” is so how is it
going to save more lives
Mike W: Think it’s a good idea
Mary Jane G: What about sleepy drivers and cell
phone users,they are more dangerous.
Karen F: Great idea! If it can save lives why not?
Those that oppose it, must be the ones that drink
and drive. Lets just put all that drink and drive on a
island with vehicles & with all the booze they want
and let them have at.
Damon M: Just another way to make money...is
not gonna deter someone from driving drunk!!!
Bryan H: So I cant have one beer at dinner
because I’m too drunk.....give me a break. If people
are going to drink and drive they are going to do it
no matter what. I have a cdl so it doesnt matter.......
if I wipe my butt the wrong way they will tell me
they can take my license away. Lets get it straight.....
its not about safety, its all about the $$$$#
Inez L: i think it os a great idea but i if they stop
u and can smell i been drinking to u should be took
to jail and lose ur license for 30 days amd then it
should cost i a fine to get them back
Bobbi W: DUI-ers gonna DUI
Amy B: drink at home, its safer.
Wes H: if weed is illegal so shud acohal b i neur
heard of any one smoken a joint ant kiln anyone
Chad S: That’s ridiculous. Just trying to make
more money not reduce drinking and driving....
Misty L: If it saves one life it is worth it. I lost two
cousins and have one that has never been able to
walk on her own, can’t really talk much, must be
taken care of 24/7....all due to one drunk driver.
Jackie S: I think any amount of alcohol is drunk
driving, but lowering the limit will not STOP people
from drinking and driving. Or even deter them from
doing so. However, getting caught, may teach them
a very pricey lesson.
Dustin F: If you have had anything to drink you
shouldn’t be driving. Go with the military standard
of 0.01.
MT S: There shouldn’t have to be a level. If you
drink or do drugs or any kind of thing then that
is your choice. But as soon as you get behind the
wheel then you are endangering others. If you want
to have a drink with dinner then eat dinner at home
or have someone else drive.
Kristin H: They can already arrest you for driving
at .05. It’s called driving while impaired (dwi)
apparently none of you know this.
Tyler B: If you are a cdl holder like me its already
low as hell so go ahead. I’ve always said all drivers
should have to follow the same dot rules i have to
follow. Make shit safer for all of us
Michael S: I think we should just raise the fine,
because the are going to drink and drive anyways.
Casey S: I believe it might work IF every town that
has a bar enforces a taxi service for the patrons of
the bar
Aaron Y: More government telling us what to do
and what we are allowed to drink
Brent W: No it will raise revenue! If is about
saving lives then have no fines just rehab. I didn’t
think so... It’s about money
Kristina R: Just install breathalyzers in every
vehicle. Problem solved. Costly, yes, but overall it
would be cheaper because there’d be a dramatic
decrease in accidents and many lives would be
saved.
Ladonna H: There is not room in the jails for
the people that are there and need to be there.
They keep having early release programs. This is
about like trying to outlaw guns. People don’t pay
attention to the laws we have now. One drink at
dinner, does not make you a drunk driver.
Robin B: Alcohol should be eliminated, no
alcohol=no drunk drivers=no DEATH
Christan M: Breathalyzers in every vehicle
really??? Not hardly, ill be damned if i pay nor get
punished for so called “adults” drinking and driving
however this does look like another way to make
more money bc im pretty sure drinking less than 1
beer is not going to classify u “DRUNK” !!!!
Tommy P: I bet if they really looked at these
10,000 deaths caused by alcohol then they would
see that nearly all of the drivers were well over
0.08 so no I don’t think lowering it is gonna change
anything but the amount of revenue the states bring
in! Hell you could probably blow 0.05 after using
mouth wash.
The NTSB (National Transportation Safety
Board) is looking into lowering the legal limit
for drunk driving from its current BAC .08 to a
lower tolerance of BAC .05 They say this move
could save many lives each year. Tell us what
you think of this plan!

God’s creation speaks of His
majesty and our hearts learn
to sing of His praise.
In an age when a click of a
finger can open up hours of
media entertainment for our children, it can be tempting to tune
out. Pulling away from the television and taking your children
on a walk may put you behind on housework, but it can prepare
them to praise the Most High!
Take the time to share the joy of nature with your children, and
tell them of His wonders.
Psalm 9:1, 2 NLT
“I will praise you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all the
marvelous things you have done. I will be filled with joy because
of you. I will sing praises to your name, O Most High.”

A pair of Bixby men got into some trouble
with drugs in Atoka County June 6.
That day, Atoka County sheriff’s deputy Jason Smith was on patrol on Highway 69, leaving Atoka, when he saw a 1999 Ford Mustang
cross the fog line of the parking lane. When
the car changed lanes, it crossed the fog line
again, so he decided to initiate a traffic stop.
Once the car stopped, Smith saw Roncado
Granados, 20, and Enrique Tovar, 23. Granados gave Smith a Mexican driver’s license and
said he and his friend were en route to Tulsa from the “big casino” in Durant. They were only
at the casino for about half an hour, Granados said.
Another deputy came to the scene to interview Tovar, who seemed more nervous than he
should be, Smith said. Next, he asked Granados if there was anything illegal in the car, but
he said no. The other deputy had a K-9 dog sniff the car, and the dog gave clues on both the
passenger and driver’s side doors, which landed the men in investigative detention.
A search of the car turned up two pieces of plastic with cocaine wrapped in each one.
Neither claimed ownership so both were arrested. At the jail, Smith determined they had 58
grams of cocaine on them, which earned them each a charge of drug trafficking the next day.
Granados and Tovar remain in custody on $100,000 bonds each. They are due in court at
9 a.m. June 12.

Davis & DeRosa Execution Dates Set
The Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals set June
18 as the execution date for LeFlore County death row
inmate James Lewis DeRosa, 36, and June 25 as the
execution date for Kay County death row inmate Brian
Darrell Davis, 38.
In October 2001, DeRosa was found guilty and
sentenced to death for the fi rst-degree murders of
Curtis Plummer, 73, and Gloria Plummer, 70, both of
Poteau.
DeRosa was briefl y employed by the Plummers and
told several friends on multiple occasions he thought
the elderly couple would be an easy target to rob.
DeRosa’s friend Eric Castleberry, 21, agreed to help
with the robbery and Castleberry’s friend, Scotty White,
18, agreed to drive.
After being welcomed into the Plummers’ home,
DeRosa and Castleberry brandished knives. While the
couple begged and struggled for their lives, DeRosa
proceeded to stab the Plummers multiple times and
slit their throats. DeRosa and Castleberry left the scene
with $73 and the couple’s pickup truck. The truck was
ditched in a nearby lake.
Castleberry testifi ed at DeRosa’s trial in exchange for a
sentence of life without the possibility of parole. White
was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and
received two 25-year sentences with the last seven years on probation.
Davis was found guilty by a jury in January 2003 for the November 2001 fi rstdegree murder and rape of his girlfriend’s mother, Jody Sanford, 52, of Ponca
City. He was sentenced to death for the murder and 100 years for rape.
In November 2001, Davis was living with his girlfriend, Stacey Sanford. They
had ended the relationship, but he refused to move out.
The night of the murder, Stacey stayed at a hotel after Davis had been
drinking. Davis called Stacey’s parents looking for her and Jody Sanford
became concerned. Unable to locate her daughter, Jody Sanford went to
Stacey’s apartment.
While at the apartment, there was an altercation between Davis and Jody
Sanford. The next morning, Stacey found her mother’s body. She had been
beaten and stabbed six times. DNA evidence also showed Jody Sanford had
been raped.

Coal County police pulled over a vehicle May 30 after observing it rapidly
increase and decrease speed. The vehicle also had a large crack in the window that stretched from the driver’s
side to the passenger’s side, according
to the police report.
Police say the occupants of the vehicle were making suspicious movements with their hands and bodies.
An officer asked the driver Jerry Lynn
Crow, 56, for his driver’s license and
insurance. The Atoka man handed
over the insurance, but told the officer
he did not have a license.
The officer confirmed with dispatch that Crow’s license had expired in 1987 and was suspended. Noticing that Crow appeared “extremely nervous and evasive,” he requested permission to search the
vehicle.
Police found a glass pipe containing a white powdery substance
and a small glass bottle containing a crystal substance underneath
the backseat. Crow told police he didn’t know who the pipe belonged
to, but the bottle was his.
He said the bottle contained his heart medication, but when police
performed a field test on the crystal substance in the bottle, it tested
positive for meth.
Since doctors have yet to approve the use of methamphetamine in
the treatment of heart conditions, police arrested Crow and transported him to the Coal County Jail.
Crow is being charged for unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was
released on a personal recognizance bond and is scheduled to appear in county on June 20, 2013.

A Clayton man’s celebration over
the end of a protective order landed
him in jail for assault June 3.
On May 29, Clayton police officer
Shawn Culver went to the Pushmataha County Hospital after receiving
an assault reporter. He arrived to see
a man who said he was beaten up
while leaving a friend’s house, located
near the Clayton Police Department.
The man was getting into his truck
when he saw a tan Silverado, with
Brian Schumann, 49, inside, pull up
to him. Schumann said “You don’t
have a protective order on me now,”
but the man said he never had a protective order filed against him. At that point, Schumann said “I’m
going to kick your a—,” and he hit the man twice in the face, adding
that he was going to kill him.
After the hits, Schumann left the scene, the man said. He told
Culver he didn’t have a protective order, but he did testify in court
for the plaintiff about another protective order someone else filed
against Schumann.
Culver, in his investigation, found out the man had a tooth knocked
out and got a concussion from the fight, according to the affidavit.
The next day, a woman went to the police station and said she saw
the fight occur.
Schumann is charged with aggravated assault and battery and assault and battery on a witness. He posted a $10,000 bond June 4.
If convicted, Schumann faces up to five years in prison and more
than $5,000 in fines.
Schumann will appear in court at 9:30 a.m. July 10 for his preliminary hearing.

Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Drive-throughs are a modern convenience that allow people to get a lot of things quickly without ever exiting their vehicles — food, money, drinks, medication, marijuana. Wait,
what?
A cashier at a drive-through convenience store in Durant
must have thought people should be able to have easy access
to drugs along with their snacks and cigarettes. Terri Lynne
Morris, 49, of Durant, apparently thought it would be a good
idea to offer people marijuana through the window until she
offered the drug to a Durant police officer.
According to an affidavit, after the initial offer from Morris, the officer assumed an undercover role and returned to
the store to purchase the drug. The entire transaction was recorded on video for evidence.
The officer went to the business and asked Morris about
buying marijuana. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a clear baggie with green and
white Playboy bunnies printed on one side.
She handed the officer the bag, along with a grape Owl cigar from the store. Morris told the
officer to return on Friday and she would have more marijuana to sell.
The officer left the store and the evidence field-tested positive for marijuana.
After obtaining a warrant, Durant police returned to the store on May 24. An officer asked
Morris about purchasing marijuana and she told him to go through the drive-through. After
buying marijuana in a baggie that Morris had removed from her bra strap, the officer entered the store with the warrant.
Police say Morris said, “I knew ya’ll were cops.” Police found more baggies, digital scales
and a glass jar containing a green leafy substance when they searched her belongings.
Morris denied having any more illegal substances, but obviously failed to realize she would
be searched while being booked into the Bryan County Jail. The female jailer that searched
Morris found three alprazolam pills (a narcotic) and two non-controlled prescription pills.
The drug-selling drive-through employee is being charged with two counts of unlawful
delivery of a narcotic, unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a controlled substance.
Her bond was set at $5,000 for the first three offenses and $500 for the fourth offense. She
is scheduled to appear in court on June 26, 2013.

In Florida, a woman was arrested for
embezzlement after throwing her boss a
surprise party. The expensive celebration
aroused suspicion, and it was discovered
that the woman had been skimming money
off the company for 10 years, and eventually
accumulated 182 dollars. How punk rock is
that? She was charged with two fi rst degree
felonies. Maybe the boss shouldn’t risk having any more birthdays for a while.
Do you have to be high to enjoy certain video games? Apparently yes to Pac-Man, hence
his never-ending hunger. In South Carolina,
a 40 year old man attempted to smuggle pot
around in his vehicle. How? By stuffi ng it all
in a Pac-Man arcade game. The vehicle was
impounded. Looks like it’s game over for this
guy.
A man and a woman fi led a fake police report against a nearby drugstore, after allegedly fi lling purchased doughnuts with small
razorblades and then consuming them. This
was in order to get paid by the drugstore.
Worse, they made a fellow Dollar Tree employee try one as well. The fl aw in their plan
presented itself when policeman realized the
drugstore doughnuts had been packaged in
another state and shipped. Seriously, said the
vegan, just eat some broccoli.
When a Wal-Mart employee told a customer that they didn’t accept printed online coupons, I doubt he was prepared for the feisty
61 year old woman’s response. The assistant
manager got involved, and was called names
by the upset costumer. More employees followed her out to her car. “I have something
for y’all”, she declared as she waved around
a 38. special she had gotten out. The police
were called at this point, and she eventually
had to be tasered. The worst part? The coupon only saved $1.

Computer interconnectivity
has produced enormous
benefits, but has also enabled
criminal activity that exploits
this interconnectivity for
financial gain and other
malicious purposes, such
as internet fraud, child
exploitation, identity theft,
and terrorism. The Internet
can give identity thieves,
hackers, and scammers online
access to your computer, financial and personal information and
more. Additionally, today’s mobile devices are well integrated with
the internet and have far more functionality than mobile phones of
the past. They are increasingly used in the same way as personal
computers, potentially making them susceptible to similar threats
affecting computers connected to the Internet.
For youths, the internet often serves as a positive and powerful
arena for socializing and learning. However, the use of the internet
also brings about risks to their safety, including the dangers of sexual
solicitation, online harassment and bullying, and exposure to illegal
content. By discussing responsible socializing and communicating,
parents -- regardless of whether they are technologically savvy --
can help their kids make better decisions about online behavior.
Efforts to address cybercrime include activities associated
with protecting networks and information, detecting criminal
activity, investigating crime, and prosecuting criminals, . The
Administration has taken significant steps to better protect America
against cyber threats and has developed a pragmatic and focused
cyber-security legislative proposal for Congress to consider. The
proposed legislation is focused on improving cyber-security for
the American people, our Nation’s critical infrastructure, and the
Federal Government’s own networks and computers.

The OSBI is off ering a substantial
reward in a nearly six-year-old homicide
case in southeast Oklahoma.
In the early morning hours of September
17, 2007, Jasmon Howell, 18, was shot
multiple times while he was sitting in his
car in the 1900 block of Hillcrest in Idabel.
A friend drove Howell to the hospital
where Howell later died.
The Idabel Police Department requested
OSBI open an investigation.
Since then, agents have investigated numerous leads and have
made signifi cant progress. In fact, agents need only a few more
pieces of information to conclude the case. With that in mind,
the OSBI is off ering up to a $5,000 reward for information that
leads to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) involved in the
homicide.
If anyone has information helpful in this case, please call the
OSBI hotline at 1-800-522-8017.

A Hugo man probably won’t be driving for a very long time after a drunken
joy ride landed him in the pen.
On May 28, a Hugo police officer
noticed an SUV being driven all over
the road. The officer attempted to pull
over the vehicle, driven by 34-year-old
Floyd Eugene Johnson, but the driver
ignored the blue and red lights of the
patrol car and continued his highspeed reckless driving.
According to the affidavit, the officer,
fearing for the lives of other motorists
and innocent bystanders, attempted
multiple times to put an end to Johnson’s crazy nighttime drive.
At one point, the crazy motorist landed his SUV in the ditch; the officer pushed the SUV with his patrol car in an attempt to keep it in the
ditch. Johnson accelerated, causing both vehicles to spin, and drove
away from the ditch at over 100 miles per hour.
The officer was finally able to end the pursuit by ramming Johnson’s vehicle, rendering it unable to move. Johnson, apparently not
too keen on the idea of spending time in prison, continued to accelerate even though his vehicle wasn’t moving.
But, as they say, if you do the crime, you pay the time. Johnson was
removed from his vehicle and struggled with police officers until he
was placed in handcuffs. The officers later found a half empty bottle
of gin in Johnson’s vehicle.
After being checked at the hospital, Johnson was booked into the
Choctaw County Jail where he is being held on a $15,000 bond. He
is being charged for eluding a police officer so as to endanger another
person, DUI misdemeanor, resisting an officer, reckless driving and
transporting an open container. He is scheduled to appear in court
on June 25, 2013.
