Today we are covering what you
should do when you are driving near
large semi trucks/trailers. You have
possibly heard of “No-Zone” which is
the areas that are blind spots for the
semi drivers. These areas we want to
avoid to potentially avoid a collision
with the semi. Do not “hang out” and
drive right beside a semi. Allow them
to maintain the proper space they
need to make turns, especially right
turns.
Share the Road with Large Trucks-Don’t Hang Out in the “No-Zone”!
Q: What is the “No-Zone”?
A: The “No-Zone” refers to the blind spot areas around large commercial vehicles, or the areas where cars are so close to the truck or bus that the driver’s
ability to stop or maneuver safely is restricted.
Q: Why do I need to know about the “no-zone”?
- Knowing about the “no-zone” areas around large vehicles will help you
to steer clear of unsafe situations involving large vehicles and help reduce
crashes.
- There are more than 250,000 crashes involving cars and trucks every year.
Many could be avoided by keeping these important points in mind:
- Large vehicles have much more sizable blind spots than cars do.
- Large vehicles also have deep blind spots directly behind them. If you are
driving behind a truck or bus and you can’t see one of its side view mirrors,
the driver can’t see you.
- At times, truck and bus drivers need to swing wide to the left to make a
right turn. Don’t cut in between the vehicle and the curb or the shoulder to
the right.
- Large vehicles cannot stop as quickly as cars. When passing, look for the
whole front of the vehicle in your rear view mirror before pulling in front of the
truck or bus.
- After passing don’t slow down.

When police asked
65-year-old Gilbert Lee
Moody if he let air out of
a woman’s tire on January
4, he tried to deny everything.
Too bad one of the victim’s coworkers caught
him in the act.
According to the affidavit, a Tishomingo officer
was dispatched to the victim’s workplace in the 100 block of W. Main at
approximately 10 a.m. to investigate the incident. When he arrived, he
saw a flat tire on the victim’s car.
The victim told the officer that Moody had let the air out of her tire by
removing the valve stem. She said her coworker had captured a picture
of Moody committing the crime.
The coworker explained that she was on her way to work when she
saw Moody hanging out in the area. Knowing the history between the
victim and Moody, she parked next to the victim’s car and waited to see
if Moody would do anything. Sure enough, the man parked his truck
nearby, walked to the victim’s car and let all of the air out of her front
driver’s side tire.
The victim told the officer this wasn’t the first time she’d had issues with
Moody. She said that on December 29, someone had broken off a key in
her door locks, and she was unable to get into her home.
She believed that someone was Moody.
The officer later spoke to Moody who denied doing anything wrong.
The officer asked him multiple times about the accusations, and each
time, Moody said it wasn’t him. The officer then showed him the picture
the victim’s coworker took of him letting the air out of the victim’s tire.
Moody then admitted it was him and said the officer “caught” him.
He continued to deny breaking off keys in the doors at the victim’s residence until the officer told him that the judge and DA didn’t like it when
people lied. He finally admitted that it was also him who had been to the
victim’s home.
Moody is being charged with malicious injury to property under $1,000.
His bond was set at $20,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on
February 13, 2017.

We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.

Spending December 26 drinking all day
probably wasn’t the best idea for 49-year-old
John W. Shatswell. The Wetumka man was
arrested after he allegedly kicked and tried to
headbutt the officer who arrested him.
According to the police report, a Wetumka
officer was dispatched to a residence the 200
block of Frances Street at approximately 5:40
p.m. to see what Shatswell was up to. The reporting party advised police that the man had
been drinking all day and was causing problems. The caller said the man had fled the residence, so the officer started searching the area
for the intoxicated suspect.
Around 6:25 p.m., the officer saw the man run out of a house and into
the alley in the 200 block of Frances. He told Shatswell to put his hands
behind his back. Shatswell complied, and the officer placed him in handcuffs.
As the officer escorted the man to the patrol car, Shatswell tried to headbutt him. He kept trying to fight the officer, despite the officer’s commands
to knock it off.
At one point, the officer took the man to the ground in an attempt to
calm him down. It didn’t work. He kicked the officer as they traveled to the
jail and once there, Shatswell continued to attempt to fight the officer and
a correctional officer.
Shatswell is being charged with battery/assault and battery upon a police officer and public intoxication. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is
scheduled to appear in court on January 20, 2017.

Adalberto Ramiro-diaz thought he was a smart criminal. Lots of dumb criminals think this, of course, but Ramiro-diaz could back it up: He had allegedly
been dealing drugs for a long time. This is quite an accomplishment because
the drug business is filled with risks: customers who want to cheat you, rivals
who want to rob you, cops who want to arrest you. How did he stay free for so
long? In July, according to TCPalm.com, Ramiro-diaz allegedly sold marijuana
and mushrooms to a customer. He let that customer in on the secret of his
success: “Adalberto bragged to me he had been doing this a long time and is
very smart about his narcotics transactions and that is why he has never been
busted. He said no one comes to his house without calling first and if someone
just shows up he will answer the door pointing a 9mm handgun at their head.”
Sounds smart! Unfortunately, this customer happened to be an undercover
investigator. Whoops! The alleged drug dealer was arrested in September.
In the summer of 2013, Anthony J. “Jimi” Lescowitch Jr. allegedly assaulted
a man, stole his ATM card, and ran away. He kept on running, apparently,
and the cops were having trouble finding him. So, in January 2014, the Freeland, Pennsylvania, police posted Lescowitch’s mug shot on Facebook, asking people to contact them with information on the suspect’s whereabouts.
To the cops’ surprise, one of the people who complied with their request was
Lescowitch himself, who immediately posted the photo on his own Facebook
wall along with an obscene comment. “lol I f---in love it A-----E,” he wrote according to Philly.com.
Reasoning that stupidity usually strikes twice, the cops sent Lescowitch a
Facebook message under the guise of an attractive woman, asking the fugitive
if he’d be willing to meet her for a drink. Lescowitch said no. (Very smart!) Well,
would Lescowitch at least be willing to come have a cigarette? Lescowitch
said yes. (Very stupid!) When Lescowitch showed up at the designated smoking spot, he was arrested—further proof that smoking is bad for you, I guess.
Later, the Freeland police posted a triumphant update on Facebook: “CAPTURED!!!!!! SHARES OUR STATUS ON FACEBOOK ABOUT HIMSELF, CAPTURED 45 MINUTES LATER.” The first comment on this new status: “One less
member at tomorrow’s Freeland MENSA meeting.” Indeed.
Wayne Wade should’ve stayed home. On July 30, the Florida man allegedly burglarized an apartment in the town of Hollywood only to encounter the
apartment’s tenant on his way out the door. “Uh-oh, now she knows what I
look like. I need to get out of here!” Wade presumably thought. So he fled,
only to realize that he had accidentally left his cellphone in the home he just
allegedly robbed. “Uh-oh, now the cops have my fingerprints and lots of other
incriminating data. I need to get that phone back!”
So he called his phone, maybe hoping that the person who answered would
see the humor in the situation and return it to him. Instead, the phone was
answered by a detective who was in the house investigating the burglary that
had just been committed there. According to the Sun-Sentinel, “Wade told the
cop his name and said he needed his phone back.” Instead, he was arrested,
and the fingerprints from his phone were used to tie Wade to five other unsolved burglaries. In court later that week, Wade told a skeptical judge that his
phone had been stolen. Uh-oh, no one believes my terrible excuse!

Norman man Harley Allen Wheeler Jr.,
20, allegedly broke into a woman’s home
after she asked him to watch it for her in
December. He was arrested on December
31 after a cigarette left at the residence
matched the kind he liked to smoke.
According to the affidavit, a Seminole
County deputy responded to the victim’s
residence on NS 3610 at approximately 1
p.m. to investigate the burglary. The victim
said it appeared someone had entered her
home through the back window. The deputy found pry marks on the window, along
with a cigarette on the ground below the
window.
The victim told the deputy she had asked the boys who lived across
the street to keep an eye on her place while she was gone, and to let her
know if anyone showed up at her residence. She received a text message from one of the men that said there was a black car in her driveway.
The woman said the boys told her they were going to follow the car,
but they were unable to keep up with it.
The deputy walked across the street and made contact with the two
boys, one identified as Harley, and another male. He asked them if they
smoked.
Harley said yes, his friend said no.
The deputy then asked Harley what kind of cigarettes he preferred.
The kind he said he liked matched the cigarette found at the victim’s
residence.
The deputy checked the boy’s information. He was advised that Harley had a warrant for his arrest out of Sebastian County. He placed the
Wheeler under arrest and transported him to jail, where he agreed to talk
to the deputy.
When the deputy advised Wheeler that he had found the same brand
of cigarette he smoked lying under the window of the house that had
been broken into, Wheeler denied being the burglar. He said the other
male he was with at the time of his arrest was actually the person who
was guilty for breaking into the home.
Wheeler is being charged with burglary in the second degree and
knowingly concealing stolen property. His bond was set at $10,000, and
he is scheduled to appear in court on January 19, 2017.

Ada man Trevor Wayne Ford, 28, allegedly stabbed a man on January 9 because the man asked for the rent money
he owed him.
Ford said he didn’t stab the victim, despite witness accounts.
According to the affidavit, Ada officers
were dispatched to the 600 block of W.
Seventh shortly after 9 a.m. to investigate
the assault. They found the victim lying in
the front yard.
The suspect, identified as Ford, was sitting on the sidewalk. Ford had blood on
his hands and a bloody knife in the front
pocket of his jeans.
A woman who was at the victim’s residence said the man left at approximately 8 a.m. to go to work, but he returned an hour later. She
heard his dog barking and when she looked outside, she saw Ford on
top of the victim. She said the victim was lying facedown on the ground,
and Ford was holding a knife and making stabbing motions toward the
victim. The woman said Ford grabbed the victim and dragged him closer
to the house when police arrived.
One of the victim’s neighbors said he saw Ford stab the victim in the
stomach and neck, then drag him into the front yard.
Officers found a large pool of blood in the roadway and yard, and drag
marks from where Ford allegedly dragged the victim.
The victim, who was still conscious when officers arrived, told police
Ford stabbed him.
Ford told police he didn’t stab the victim and if he did, it must have
been an accident. He admitted that he knew the victim didn’t have a
weapon. He said he was scared for his life, because the victim had PTSD
and had talked about killing people when he was overseas. He told an
officer that they started arguing because he lost the rent money he owed
the victim, and the victim had demanded either his wallet or his keys.
Ford continued to deny stabbing the man. He said he saw his knife
open and on the ground, and the victim just must have rolled over on it
and stabbed himself.
Ford said he was just trying to stop the victim from beating him up.
Ford is being charged with assault and battery by means likely to produce death. His bond was set at $250,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on January 24, 2017.

During the recent OSBI Awards Ceremony, the Bureau recognized the stellar work
performed on a cold case homicide that
solved the mystery. Special Agent Amie
Gates and Cold Case Special Investigator
Clif Gann worked together to determine
who killed an elderly woman more than 30
years ago.
In March 1985, Roxie Webb was stabbed
and strangled to death inside her Guymon
home. The police department requested
OSBI investigative assistance. For years,
special agents followed leads, but the case grew cold; however, OSBI
special agents would regularly review the case.
Special Agent Amie Gates inherited the case and began working with
local law enforcement to remind them of the brutal murder of the elderly
woman. She also called upon Cold Case Investigator Clif Gann. The two
developed a lead through the Texas County Sheriff’s Office from an inmate. That inmate had been told of the murder by the man who said he
was involved. That information led to a witness who had been married to
one of the suspect. That man had since died, giving the woman confidence she could speak with law enforcement.
Information provided from those interviews, gave special agents names
and detailed information about the murder only the killers and investigators knew. A check with Vital Statistics showed all three men had died.
However, these agents presented a report to the district attorney. District
Attorney Mike Boring felt the evidence was so strong he issued a letter
indicating there would have been sufficient basis to file charges on the
three men.
The relentless efforts by Special Agent Amie Gates and expertise of
seasoned Cold Case Investigator Clif Gann finally put to rest a murder
mystery never forgotten.
