Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty ROGERS COUNTY 9 | AUGUST 2019
Police said two burglars struck a Texas store that sells high-end security equipment,
and the whole thing was caught on tape by 17 cameras rolling in the store.
“The point is, nobody is safe; there is always a stupid criminal out there,” said Kris
Webb, owner of Spy Supply.
The thieves broke into Webb’s surveillance gear store in North Richland Hills, Texas,
last week.
“I’ve got them on no less than 17 cameras,” Webb said. “We are a security business.”
And if the name of the business wasn’t telling enough, multiple warning signs on the
store should have given the burglars a clue that they would be on camera.
“It is absolutely astounding that these people have the audacity to steal from us and
not expect to get caught,” Webb said.
The surveillance cameras caught several clear images of the two men who broke in
through the store’s front door with a crowbar early Friday.
Police said the duo filled a trash can with close to $10,000 worth of spy equipment.
Authorities said the video even showed a clear shot of their getaway car.
Webb said he’s taking the robbery in stride.
“I’m pretty confident they will get caught,” he said. “I’m not confident we’ll get our
equipment back.”
An ex-con allegedly tried to rob two people in New York, police said, but didn’t notice
his intended victims were police officers -- in uniform.
Police said 33-year-old Jermaine Washington allegedly was so intent on robbing
someone Saturday that he pulled a fake handgun on the two armed police officers as
they walked through Riverside Park, The New York Daily News said.
“It was stupid criminal tricks,” a police source said. “The guy didn’t even look to see
who was coming.”
After Washington allegedly pulled his fake gun, the two officers drew their real weapons and Washington surrendered after a short but tense standoff.
A man driving a stolen car that went into a ditch flagged down the wrong person for
help.
Dean Gangl, 40, of Richmond, Minn., unwittingly asked an off-duty sheriff’s deputy
to help him pull the vehicle out of a ditch along Benton County Road 4 west of Foley,
Minn., Sheriff Brad Bennett said.
The deputy, who came upon the stranded motorist at while he was on his way home,
noticed that the vehicle in the ditch matched the description of one reported stolen
hours earlier in St. Cloud. The deputy radioed to dispatchers, who confirmed the man
was driving a stolen car, Bennett said.
The deputy arrested Gangl and found that he was in possession of a white crystal
substance. Gangl tested positive for methamphetamine, Bennett said.
He was taken to the Benton County Jail and charged with being in possession of
controlled substance and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
A house burglar was arrested at a court when he showed up for another case, police
said. The man kicked in the back door of a home on Aug. 8 and entered but ran off
when a teenage girl who was lying on a couch saw him and started screaming, Nassau
County police said.
The girl identified the 49-year-old man, who had multiple prior arrests for burglary, in
a photo lineup, they said.
The man, from Bayville, was arrested by an officer when he went to First District
Court for an unrelated issue, police said. He was charged with second-degree burglary.
A Perth man has been charged with drink driving three times in 24 hours, his menacing spree ending with a bizarre incident at a police station.
The 46-year-old was first stopped by Boddington police in the Perth hills and charged
with driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
He was spotted driving his car again a short time later and arrested for drink-driving,
police said.
The man’s car was impounded in the Boddington police station but early the next
morning, the man allegedly jumped over the fence of the police station, broke open a
padlock on a back gate and drove away in his car.
He was caught and arrested again three hours later and charged with three counts
of driving under the influence; three counts of driving while under suspension and one
charge of trespass.
He’s been refused bail.

THE TOWN OF SOUTH COFFEYVILLE WOULD LIKE TO KEEP YOU OUT OF JAIL!
If you have a warrant with the Town of South Coffeyville, Okla., and would like to get rid of
that warrant once and for all, you can contact the Court Clerk at 1-918-255-6045, option 1.
When a warrant is issued, the amount is sent to a collection agency. At that time, the collection agency will have an additional fee of 25% of the amount of the warrant added onto the
amount due. The town is offering two options at this time. If you would like a pay order, you
will need to pay 35% down of the amount due and sign a pay order. After 35% is paid and
a pay order is signed, the warrant will be recalled and the collection agency will be paid. If
you want to pay the warrant and collection fee, a discount on the warrant will be given for a
total that is over $500. No discounts will be given for pay orders. This will not apply to new
arrests. (Partial list, more to come)

THE SCENIC ROUTE
Rose man Brian Dewayne Evans, 41,
found himself behind bars after he allegedly led a state trooper on a high-speed
pursuit while on a motorcycle on June 30.
According to the police report, a state
trooper noticed Evans while working traffic on Scenic 412 and South 580 Road.
He headed southbound on S. 580 Road
around 8:27 p.m.
Evans was on a motorcycle headed
northbound, and he wasn’t wearing eye
protection. The trooper tried to stop the
man, but Evans looked over his shoulder
at the trooper and accelerated his motorcycle.
The trooper sped after the man, who
was traveling 104 mph in a 55-mph zone. Evans ran a couple cars off the
road and kept looking back at the trooper.
The trooper noticed that the driver seemed to slow down as they approached S. 560 Road while still headed westbound on Scenic 412. Immediately after passing S. 560, the driver pulled into a residence on the
south side of 412 and jumped off the motorcycle.
The trooper told the man to put his hands in the air and get on the
ground. Evans put his arms up, but he refused to drop down. He took off
running, ran around the residence, jumping two fences, before coming
back to the front and going in the front door.
The trooper met with the owner of the residence, who said she didn’t
know where Evans was. More troopers arrived to assist, and they surrounded the home.
After the homeowner was told that Evans was inside the house, she
agreed to go get him.
A short time later, Evans walked out of the residence with his hands in
the air. He was placed under arrest. He told the trooper that he didn’t stop
because the tag that was on the motorcycle didn’t belong to the vehicle,
and he didn’t have a valid driver’s license.
Evans is being charged with endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude, driving without a valid driver’s license, failure to pay all taxes
due to state, speeding in excess of lawful maximum limit, operating motorcycle without required equipment, improper passing, obstructing an officer
and failure to maintain security. He was released on a $8,020 bond and is
scheduled to appear in court on August 26, 2019.

THE SEARCH CONTINUES
The OSBI and Craig County District Attorney’s Office are in Picher again
searching for the remains of the Welch Girls, Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman. The girls went missing in 1999 after Ashley’s parents were murdered
and their home was burned down.
Lauria and Ashley are always front and center on the minds of co-lead
investigators Special Agent Tammy Ferarri and District Attorney Investigator
Gary Stansill. The two took over the case, which was considered cold, twelve
and a half years after the crimes and they’ve worked closely with the girls’
families to pursue justice and bring the girls home.
Over the years, there have been numerous searches for the girls remains in
and around Picher. And while there is no greater, or lesser, expectation that
this week’s searches will result in the recovery of the girls, the pursuit of every
lead will be followed.
Ronnie Busick is currently in the Craig County Jail, bail set at $1 million.
He’s charged in custody charged in connection with the 1999 murders of
Danny and Kathy Freeman, the arson of their home and the kidnapping and
murders of Lauria and Ashley. Two other suspects, Phillip Welch and David
Pennington, are deceased. The search this week is around the former residence of Phil Welch.
Investigators are thankful to all of those who are supporting this search
including the Quapaw Nation and the Tulsa Police Department Dive Team.

something borrowed
A 32-year-old Miami woman was arrested on
July 15 when she was caught driving a stolen
vehicle around.
Officers also discovered drugs in the car.
According to the affidavit, an Ottawa County
deputy was on patrol traveling north on Highway
69 from East 140 Road at approximately 10:25
p.m. when she noticed that the car in front of
her didn’t have working tail lights. She stopped
the vehicle and made contact with the driver,
identified as Natasha Melrea Beaty.
Beaty explained that she had changed a fuse
on the lights. When the deputy asked if the vehicle she was driving belonged to her, she said
no – she had borrowed it.
While checking the woman’s information, dispatch advised that the license plate had been reported stolen out of Miami.
The deputy checked the vehicle’s VIN number and was advised that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Columbus, Kansas, four days earlier.
The deputy asked Beaty how long she had been driving the “borrowed”
vehicle. Beaty said four days.
While placing the woman in handcuffs, the officer asked her if she had anything illegal on her person. Beaty said no. She was placed under arrest and
transported to jail.
While conducting an inventory of the stolen vehicle, officers found a purse
that contained Beaty’s social security card. Also in the purse was some syringes, clear bags, a bag containing a powder substance that tested positive
for meth, and several pills that were identified as cannabis and schedule 4
drugs.
During booking, a glass pipe containing a green leafy substance fell out of
Beaty’s bra. The substance tested positive for marijuana.
Beaty is being charged with possession of stolen vehicle, bringing contraband into jail, removing proper or affixing improper license plate and possession of controlled dangerous substance. Her bond was set at $12,000, and
she is scheduled to appear in court on August 8, 2019.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless
