Enid man Jeffrey Shawn Curless, 62, is
being charged with sexual battery and lewd
molestation after he allegedly assaulted the
victim on September 21.
According to reports, a woman reported
the assault to the Enid Police Department.
She said her son tried to go into a shed at
Curless’ residence. The door was locked,
but the juvenile could hear sounds coming
from inside of the shed. He recorded what he
heard.
In the recording, it sounded like someone
was in pain. A conversation was heard but
hard to understand. It seemed as though the
victim said “no” at some point.
Reports state that the victim had been diagnosed with a mild intellectual disability.
On September 22, a police officer spoke to the victim’s mother regarding
the incident. The mother, who said she had no idea about what had taken
place, told the officer that the victim stays with Curless almost every weekend. She said the man was “like a father figure” to the victim.
During an interview, the victim told police that Curless touched her inappropriately during the recording. When the interviewer asked the victim if Curless
had touched her inappropriately before, she said yes, but she had told him
to stop.
The victim also told police that Curless told her that he wanted to have sex
with her. When he pulled his pants down, the victim said she told him he could
get arrested, because what he was doing was illegal. She also said that she
moved away from him and left because she felt like she was going to throw
up.
Curless is being charged with sexual battery and lewd molestation. His
bond was set at $100,000.

A huge Thank You to the ENID AM Ambucs for honoring Officer Nicole Binckley as their
Officer of the Month on October 29. The group recognized Nicole for her work on a domestic
assault case where the victim was in danger from her attacker. She and other officers worked
tirelessly to ensure the woman was kept safe and her assailant remained in jail. The club was
kind enough to give her a couple of generous gift cards, in addition to a very nice breakfast.
Our thanks goes out to this wonderful group for their appreciation of our officers. This is part
of what makes Enid such a great community to serve.
If you see Officer Binckley out and about tell her congratulations. Job well done, ma’am!

On November 4, the Enid Police Department presented Officer Ashley Milton
with her Officer of the Quarter award. Ashley was nominated for the honor for her
work ethic, positive attitude and community outreach efforts.
Ashley joined the department in September of 2020 and has been a great officer
to work with. Her supervisors noted Ashley’s community-oriented demeanor as an
asset for A-Shift. Her can-do attitude to take on projects requiring interaction and
public speaking is “amazing.” Her work has reflected greatly upon the Enid Police
Department. So, if you see her around, please congratulate her on her accomplishment.

AROUND THE STATE
SHOOTING ARREST -- Man arrested after
shooting his neighbor.
Around 3:15 p.m. on October 12, officers
got called out to a shooting near 4300 N. Iroquois Ave. A woman called police saying her
neighbor shot her 23-year-old grandson.
The victim told officers he went to the
neighbor’s house to talk to him about WIFI.
After knocking on the door twice, the victim
says Edward Deonta White fired several gunshots through the window, hitting the victim
once in the shoulder.
The victim was taken to the hospital and is
expected to be okay.
Officers setup a perimeter around the
house. After 30 minutes of announcements without a response, the Special
Operations Team was activated. Officers also talked with a family relative who
identified White and provided additional information.
After several hours of making announcements, the SOT team made entry in
the house and found White had escaped.
Officers then received information that Edward White was spotted at several
area convenience stores. Eventually, Edward White was caught at a Walmart
fighting with deputies.
Edward White was arrested for:
Shooting with Intent to Kill AFCF (After Former Conviction of a Felony)
Possession of a Firearm AFCF
Drug Possession AFCF
*This is a previous mugshot of White. He was being combative and uncooperative at the jail.

EVEN MORE CRISES
A 37-year-old Alva woman who was staying
at the Northwest Domestic Crisis Center was
put behind bars after officers found meth and
paraphernalia in her apartment.
According to reports, someone notified the
Alva Police Department that there was an excessive amount of vehicle and foot traffic at all
hours of the day at an apartment at the crisis
center. Suspecting illegal narcotic activity, officers contacted the center, who informed them
of the zero drug and alcohol policy which tenants must agree to before moving in.
On October 6, officers met with the apartment’s occupant, Shannon Katherine McDaniel. McDaniel had been arrested in 2016 for possession of meth and marijuana, and 2017 for possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute.
A man who also had a history of drug-related arrests was also in the
apartment with McDaniel.
Officers returned later that day with a K9 to conduct a free air sniff of
multiple apartment units. The K9 alerted to the odor of illegal narcotics in
McDaniel’s purse in her bedroom.
In the purse, an officer found multiple male prison ID cards and $500 in
small denominations. No drugs were found in the apartment at the time.
On November 3, officers were informed that McDaniel had illegal narcotics at her apartment. Officers returned to the apartment at 7:30 p.m.
McDaniel, her 16-year-old daughter, and 19-month-old son were removed from the apartment while officers searched the residence.
A K9 alerted to the presence of drugs in the woman’s room. In a purse
just 5 feet away from where McDaniel’s infant son was sleeping, officers
found a digital scale with a white powdery substance that tested positive
for meth. They also found some empty baggies.
In a closet, officers found six baggies containing a white powdery substance suspected to be meth. The drugs found in the baggies totaled 10.7
grams.
They also located glass smoking pipes with residue and a ledger sheet
that showed how much meth was distributed to whom.
McDaniel had $70 in cash – she told police she got the money from
selling meth.
McDaniel is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous
substance (methamphetamine) with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet
of a school after the former conviction of a felony. Her bond was set at
$7,500, and she is scheduled to appear in court on December 14, 2021.

OSBI RENEWING REWARD FOR INFORMATION IN
THE JENNIFER JESSE HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) is renewing a $5,000 reward for
information that leads to the identification of
a suspect in the murder of 30-year-old Jennifer Jesse. On March 11, 2020, Jesse was
found deceased by Union City police officers.
A passerby called 9-1-1 after discovering her
body on SW 44th near Gregory Road. Jesse
was positively identified on March 13, 2020.
The medical examiner determined she had
been shot multiple times.
On March 30, 2020, the OSBI released
photographs of a man that is believed to have
information that will assist agents with the investigation. The pictures were taken at the
Braum’s located at 7025 S. Western Ave., in
Oklahoma City at around 9:13 p.m. on March
2, 2020. The race of the man in the photographs is unknown. He is wearing distinctive
shoes, which are light blue with bright pink
shoelaces. He is believed to be wearing some
kind of bandana or head covering. Agents still
want to speak to this man.
If you have any information about Jesse’s
murder, contact the OSBI at (800) 522-8017
or you can email [email protected]. YOU CAN
REMAIN ANONYMOUS.

AMERICA’S DEADLIEST SHOOTINGS
ARE ONES WE DON’T TALK ABOUT
On any given day in America, an average of 63 of our mothers,
brothers, partners, and friends are taken from us by gun suicide.
But tomorrow’s deaths could be prevented. Give your loved ones
a second chance at life. Store your guns safely: locked, unloaded,
and away from ammo.

Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty MAJOR COUNTY 19 | NOVEMBER 2021
We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless
