APRIL IS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE
PREVENTION MONTH
April is National Child Abuse Prevention
Month, a time to recognize that we each can
play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in communities.
Parenting is one of the toughest and most
important jobs in America, and we all have a
stake in ensuring that parents have access to
the resources and support they need to be successful. Entire communities play a role in helping families find the strength they need to raise
safe, healthy, and productive children.
Here are some things you can do:
Get to know your neighbors. Problems seem less overwhelming when
support is nearby.
Help a family under stress. Offer to babysit, help with chores and errands,
or suggest resources in the community that can help.
Reach out to children in your community. A smile or a word of encouragement can mean a lot, whether it comes from a parent or a passing stranger.
Be an active community member. Lend a hand at local schools, community or faith-based organizations, children’s hospitals, social service agencies,
or other places where families and children are supported.
Keep your neighborhood safe. Start a Neighborhood Watch or plan a
local “National Night Out” community event. You will get to know your neighbors while helping to keep your neighborhood and children safe.
Learn how to recognize and report signs of child abuse and neglect.
Reporting your concerns may protect a child and get help for a family who
needs it.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

DAY DRINKIN’
Duncan woman Carmen JoAnn Brown, 50,
is being charged with several felonies after she
allegedly committed a slew of crimes after a
drunken day with her boyfriend on March 10.
According to the affidavit, a Stephens County deputy was dispatched to investigate a reckless driver on Taylor Road in Comanche. The
reporting party said a man and woman showed
up to his house, which was located on a deadend road. The man got out of the car and started talking to the RP. The RP told the man that
he needed to leave his property.
The man started walking away with a bottle
of liquor in his hands, leaving the woman, later identified as Brown, in the
vehicle. She put the car in park and almost ran over the man. She then
threw it in reverse and ran into a tree. She again drove toward the man,
almost hitting him. The man took off walking through the woods, drinking
from the bottle.
Brown left the area with two flat tires and parts of the car hanging off.
Not long after the RP called 911, an employee at the Meridian Nursing
Home reported a white vehicle was in a ditch just off Meridian Heights
Road west of CR 2820.
Deputies located the man, who was the registered owner of the reckless
driver vehicle. The man told police Brown was his girlfriend. They had been
drinking all day and Brown hit him in the head.
A short time later, officers located Brown trying to break into the nursing
home. When troopers arrived at the scene, she tried to fight them. She
also crawled under a patrol vehicle.
Due to how she was acting and the fact that she had multiple warrants
for her arrest, officers took the woman to the hospital before jail. At the
hospital, Brown struggled with hospital staff. A doctor gave her ketamine
to calm her down. She also screamed and yelled, disrupting the ER.
Officers tried to speak to the woman about the incident a couple of days
later. She told police that she didn’t remember anything that happened.
Brown is being charged with assault and battery on a police officer, public intoxication, obstructing an officer, outraging public decency, driving a
motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, and driving
with license suspended. Her bond was set at $50,000, and she is scheduled to appear in court on June 1, 2022.

AS LUCK WOULD HAVE IT
A Frederick man is facing multiple felony charges after a cyber tip alerted authorities that he had allegedly uploaded
child porn to a social media platform.
Khami Hester, 25, was charged March
22 in Tillman County District Court with
poss of child pornography, poss obscene material- child porn, computer
fraud, and aggravated assault and battery on a police officer.
According to the Oklahoma State
Bureau of Investigation, The District III
Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, an
affiliate of the Oklahoma State Bureau
of Investigation (OSBI) Internet Crimes
Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, arrested Hester at his residence
in Frederick, Tillman County on March 17, 2022, at approximately

The investigation began after the District III Drug and Violent

uploaded child sexual assault material on their platform.
Agents sought a search warrant for Hester’s residence in Frederick and executed it with the assistance of the Tillman County Sheriff

While serving the search warrant, Hester was taken into custody
after a fight where he assaulted an Agent of the Task Force. Hester
was then tased by a Tillman County Deputy and taken into custody.
The Agent and Hester were medically cleared on scene by Tillman
County Emergency Medical Service.
Hester is being held on a $150,000 bond in the Tillman County
Jail. He is scheduled to next appear in court on April 26 at 1:30
p.m..

AMERICA’S DEADLIEST SHOOTINGS
ARE ONES WE DON’T TALK ABOUT
On any given day in America, an average of 63 of our mothers,
brothers, partners, and friends are taken from us by gun suicide.
But tomorrow’s deaths could be prevented. Give your loved ones
a second chance at life. Store your guns safely: locked, unloaded,

CARNEGIE MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE WITHOUT
PAROLE FOR PREMEDITATED MURDER
On March 31, a federal judge sentenced Isaiah Whitefox Redbird, 36, of Carnegie, to life in
prison without the possibility of parole for premeditated murder and assault causing serious
bodily injury, announced U.S. Attorney Robert
J. Troester.
On November 6, 2019, a federal grand jury
indicted Redbird for deliberately killing a person
by striking him on the head with a blunt force
instrument on September 11, 2018, in Indian
Country. He was also charged in a separate
count with assaulting a person identified as
K.R. on the same day with the intent to commit
murder. The federal government had jurisdiction over the offense because
Redbird is a Kiowa Indian and the offense occurred in Indian country.
According to facts presented at the November 2020 trial, Redbird
bore a grudge against Byron “Subee” Tongkeamah, Jr., and his girlfriend,
Kayleigh Roughface. On the night of September 11, 2018, Redbird entered an enclosed porch of an abandoned house where Tongkeamah Jr.
and Roughface had taken refuge. He approached them where they were
in bed on a foam mattress on the floor and struck each of them multiple
times on the head with the crowbar. Tongkeamah Jr. died from multiple
blunt force trauma injuries to his skull. Redbird fled the scene, buried the
crowbar, burned and buried his clothes, and fled to Arizona. Roughface
survived, despite losing all memory of the night of the attack.
Evidence at trial further showed that, on the morning of September 12,
2018, Carnegie police discovered Roughface disoriented and walking
down the street in Carnegie. She was covered with dried blood and had
massive trauma, including a fractured skull, a fractured eye socket, a broken arm, and a broken finger. Soon after that, officers discovered the body
of Tongkeamah Jr. in the enclosed porch. Audio-recordings introduced at
trial of Redbird’s phone conversations revealed that he believed he had
a duty to execute Tongkeamah Jr. and Roughface based on rumors he
had heard about them. After deliberating for two days, the federal jury
returned a guilty verdict, convicting Redbird of the premeditated murder
of Tongkeamah Jr. and assault causing serious bodily injury of Roughface.
At a sentencing hearing, Senior U.S. District Judge Stephen P. Friot sentenced Redbird to serve life in federal prison for the murder of Tongkeamah
and 10 years for the assault on Roughface. In announcing the sentence,
Judge Friot noted the nature and circumstances of the offense. Parole has
been abolished in the federal prison system.

HOOKUP THWARTED
An inmate, who was reported missing from the
Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite on March
27, was taken into custody on March 29 in Altus.
Altus Police stated that officers responded to
a report of a suspicious subject in the 100 block
of Val Verde Drive at around 9:15 a.m. and positively identified 56-year-old Frank Logan. Logan
had been reported as an escapee from Granite
at around 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 27. He
was serving a 60-year sentence in the Oklahoma
Department of Corrections. Logan surrendered
to Altus Police without incident and was transported to the Jackson County Jail.
Altus Police discovered text messages between
Frank Logan and 39-year-old Shannon Longman
shortly after his arrest. Those messages documented an arranged location where Longman
would assist Logan from being apprehended.
Longman and her vehicle were discovered in the
parking lot of 2700 North Main at around noon on
March 29. Investigators executed a search warrant on the vehicle and later arrested Longman.
A backpack was located in the vehicle. Inside the
bag were men’s clothing and a handgun.
Longman faces charges of Harboring a Fugitive, Possession of a Firearm After a Former Felony Conviction, and False Personation. She is being held at the Jackson
County Jail.

A Verden man was taken into custody after he
allegedly kidnapped a woman at gunpoint.
Stephen Lee Martin, 31, was charged March
21 with kidnapping, possess firearm during the
commission of a felony, possession of firearm
affc, feloniously pointing firearm, and domestic
abuse- assault and battery, in Grady County District Court.
Reports state that a Verden officer was called to
a home about a domestic disturbance, but no one
was home. The officer relayed to dispatch that he
would keep an eye out for the couple. He later
spotted Martin and a woman driving into town
and stopped the vehicle.
After questioning the woman, the officer placed Martin under arrest. She
said Martin had kidnapped her at gunpoint and threatened to kill her.
Martin was transported to the Grady County Jail and booked in on the
above charges. His bond was set at $100,000 and his next court appearance is scheduled for May 5 at 2:00 p.m.
