THE FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST
Stillwater man James Robert Kerns,
34, was put behind bars after he allegedly
stabbed a woman during an altercation on
September 22.
According to the police report, Stillwater
police officers were dispatched to the 700
block of E. 12th Street at 9:51 a.m. to investigate a stabbing.
During the investigation, they determined
that Kerns and the female victim were involved in an altercation. At some point, while
the woman was driving in the area of Couch
Park, Kerns stabbed her in the neck. The vehicle then pulled into a parking lot in the 700
block of E. 12th. A passenger ran out of the
vehicle.
Kerns left the area in the vehicle. The passenger who fled the vehicle told
police officers where Kerns was.
Officers found Kerns in the area of 1100 S. Adams shortly before 11 a.m.
They placed him under arrest and transported him to jail.
The victim was treated for her injuries.
Kerns is being charged with domestic assault and battery with a dangerous
weapon. His bond was set at $50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court
on October 6, 2022.

BARROOM BLITZ
The party has to stop sometime, right? Well,
not according to two 22-year-olds in Stillwater.
They were both placed under arrest after one
of them decided she hadn’t had enough booze
and shenanigans for the night.
According to the police report, Stillwater
police officers were dispatched to The Union
bar located in the 400 block of S. Washington
Street at approximately 2 a.m. on September
22. An employee from the bar said an individual
had refused to leave the bar when it closed.
When she was forced outside, the woman began banging on the doors and tried to fight bar
staff.
When an officer arrived at the location, he
noticed a group of eight people down from the
bar. One of the women in the group matched
the description of the suspect.
The officer approached the group and started talking to the woman. Two other officers arrived on scene and also started talking to the
group. The group became argumentative with
the officers and refused to leave the area.
One of the individuals, Caymon Izak Severs, reached out toward an officer. The officer
grabbed the man’s arm and tried to take him
into custody.
The female suspect from the initial call, Claire Elizabeth Hosterman, tried
to stop the officer from arresting Severs. She assaulted the officer and a
struggle ensued.
While detaining the combative suspects, one of the officers was severely
injured.
Throughout the struggle, officers told Hosterman and Severs to stop
fighting and place their hands behind their backs, which they both refused.
One of the officers eventually deployed his Taser into Severs on his back.
The suspects were arrested and transported to jail.
Both Severs and Hosterman are being charged with assault and battery
on a police officer, resisting arrest, and public intoxication. Their bonds
were set at $5,000.
Severs was scheduled to appear in court on September 27, 2022.
Hosterman is scheduled to appear in court on November 8, 2022.

The following individual has been charged with violations of United States law in indictments returned by the
Grand Jury. The return of an indictment is a method of

of innocence.

of a Minor in Indian Country; Abusive Sexual Contact with
a Minor in Indian Country (superseding). Summers, 22, of

producing child pornography. He is further charged with using electronic communications to coerce the minor to engage in sexual activity. He is also charged with
attempting to engage in a sexual act with the minor between the ages of 12 and
16 from February 2021 to January 2022. Finally, he is charged with knowingly engaging in sexual contact with the minor when the victim was between the ages of

AROUND THE STATE
A multi-agency investigation has resulted in one of the largest methamphetamine seizures in state history. Mark Woodward, Spokesman for
the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, says an investigation began in July
targeting a drug trafficking organization moving large quantities of meth
from Mexico into central and southern Oklahoma.
“The investigation led to Search Warrants being served this week at several locations where shipments of meth were being stored upon arrival in
Oklahoma.” ---Mark Woodward, OBN Spokesman
Woodward says the Search Warrants resulted in the seizure of 589
pounds of meth with a street value of nearly $3 million. Woodward says
this is one of the largest meth seizures in state history. Additionally, four
firearms were seized, and five individuals have been arrested. Woodward
says more arrests are expected as this investigation remains ongoing.
“The significance of this seizure cannot be overstated as meth continues
to kill more Oklahomans than any other drug. This seizure of nearly 270
kilos of meth no doubt saved countless lives throughout our state.” ---
OBN Director Donnie Anderson
Agencies assisting in the investigation include the Oklahoma Bureau of
Narcotics, the Ardmore Police Department, the US Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

AROUND THE COUNTRY
Authorities said the 5-year-old child of a second
suspect drew on police with a loaded shotgun as
his mother was being taken into custody.
A would-be robber pretending to be a stranded
motorist killed a Florida college student who had
pulled his own weapon in self-defense during a
gunfight in Alabama, authorities said.
Adam Simjee, 22, and his girlfriend, Mikayla Paulus — both students at the University of Central
Florida — were driving through Talladega National Forest near Cheaha State Park when they were
flagged down Sunday by suspect Yasmine Hider,
the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Hider said her car had broken down and when
the victims offered their help, she “produced a gun
and made the couple walk back into the woods,”
according to the sheriff.
Simjee then pulled his concealed handgun and
wounded Hider “multiple times” before he too was
shot and then died at the scene, the sheriff said.
Paulus, who was not wounded in the shootout,
called 911 and told authorities there was another
woman with Hider. Searchers eventually found the
suspects’ camp about a half-mile away, where they
had been “living off the grid,” according to the sheriff’s statement.
That’s where police officers and deputies found
second suspect Krystal Diane Pinkins and her young child.
“As officers were ordering the female to the ground a 5-year-old child ran
from the woods holding a loaded shotgun,” the sheriff said. “Law enforcement told the child to put the shotgun down however the child continued to
the female’s location before laying the gun on the ground.”

ON THE MOVE
Wellston man Jason Edward McCully, 46, was
carted off to jail after he allegedly fired his gun at a
man on August 26.
According to the affidavit, Lincoln County deputies
were dispatched to a shooting in progress at approximately 12:39 p.m. They were advised that there
were three to four people inside of the house, a man
in a truck who was yelling and shooting at the people
inside the house, and the reporting party’s employee.
When deputies arrived, they detained the suspect,
identified as McCully. They found several firearms in
his truck.
The reporting party, and also the owner of the
property, said the people in the home were supposed to move out the night
before, but they didn’t. He and his employee were there to inspect the property.
After looking at the HVAC unit on the back of the house, the man’s employee returned to his vehicle and someone started shooting.
The employee said a man drove up in a white truck and called him by another man’s name. He told him to “get out of here” before firing approximately
three shots in his direction. He also said that he was going to kill him.
The employee tried to tell him he was just there to inspect the house, but
the man fired a few more shots at him before realizing the employee wasn’t
who he was looking for.
The man who McCully was allegedly looking for had fled the scene to a
nearby house and was in a frantic state. While investigating the incident, a
deputy determined that McCully and that man had been involved in some
kind of altercation. When questioned, the man said McCully let him and the
other occupants of the house use his four wheeler to move things from the
house to another property. While they were moving things out of the house,
he said he heard gunshots.
McCully is being charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. His bond
was set at $100,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on November
17, 2022.

FORENSIC GENETIC GENEALOGY HELPS
IDENTIFY WOMAN WITH STARBURST TATTOO
On August 31, the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) announced
that a woman found partially
buried on August 31, 2008
near Lake Thunderbird is
identified as Angela Mason.
Mason, who was 25 at the
time, was found partially
decomposed in a shallow
grave at 120th and Alameda. She was discovered
by several fishermen, and
a Park Ranger requested
OSBI assistance with the investigation.
“It is a great day when we can give a victim their name back,” said Aungela
Spurlock, OSBI Director. “Utilizing Forensic Genetic Genealogy is an investment
and is unfortunately not possible to use on every cold case. But for Angela, the
investment paid off. Now our team will continue to work to get Angela the justice
she deserves.”
In August 2021, having exhausted all investigative leads, retiring Director Ricky
Adams approved the case for genetic genealogy testing. Criminalists from the
OSBI Forensic Science Center sent DNA from Mason’s remains to Parabon Nanolabs in an effort to locate relatives. Parabon returned results in March of 2022
identifying a possible relative. Special Agents contacted the relative and asked for
a DNA sample to compare to the victim. The results came back positively identifying Anglea Mason as the deceased. With this critical information, OSBI agents
and analysts have intensified their investigative efforts to determine what happened
to Mason.
Numerous attempts had been made since Mason was found to identify her
including releasing images of her distinctive tattoo, entering her information into
the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs), adding her case
to the OSBI Cold Case Cards, reaching out to other departments to review their
missing persons cases, and releasing forensic sketches. The most recent sketch
was released in May 2021 and utilized advanced composite software to generate
an image.
At the time Mason’s remains were located, the Medical Examiner believed the
remains were those of a white female, possibly with Native American heritage, who
was approximately 5’5”, between 30 and 45 years old, and had at least one child.
ME investigators believed she had been buried in the shallow grave between three
and 15 months prior to her discovery.
Mason was 5’6” and was a registered citizen of the Cherokee Nation. She attended Putnam City West High School, was married once, and had four children.
She was last seen in Moore, Oklahoma in the spring of 2008.
Special Agents from the OSBI are investigating her death as a homicide. Agents
returned to the location where Mason was found in June 2022 to reprocess the
scene. At that time, they located and collected additional evidence.
If you knew Angela Marie (Richards) Mason or have any information on her
death, please contact the OSBI at (800) 522-8017 or email [email protected]. You
can remain anonymous.

FANNING THE FLAME
A 48-year-old Guthrie man was arrested for
first-degree arson after he allegedly set his
aunt’s home on fire earlier this month.
According to reports, Brian Keith Hendon
lived in the same complex as his aunt. The
complex was run by the Guthrie Housing Authority.
Due to some issues going on in the apartment, Hendon wanted to move in with her
while the authority was working to address
the issues.
The aunt told Hendon no due to previous occurrences. Her answer was not one
he liked, so he decided he would make her
homeless, too, by burning her home down.
When police officers arrived at the location, they found Hendon sitting outside on a curb. He told them that he was initially going to light his own home
on fire, but he decided just to burn down his aunt’s apartment instead.
Hendon admitted to officers that he poured gas on the walls of his aunt’s
home before igniting the flames with a long-reach lighter.
The man requested medical attention, because his legs were burned when
he set the house ablaze.
Fortunately, no one else was injured in the fire.
Hendon is being charged with arson in the first degree. His bond was set at
$50,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on October 27, 2022.
