AROUND THE STATE
Gotta catch ‘em all!
For the past several months, the Tulsa
Police Department has been investigating a
fraudulent Pokémon Card Scam.
Detectives were contacted by five victims
across the United States. Victims in Hawaii,
Arizona, Texas, Colorado and Ohio all reported buying rare and high value Pokémon
cards from the suspect in Tulsa, identified as
Michael McCoy.
Each victim purchased the cards for thousands of dollars only to find out the cards
they received were fake.
During the investigation, Detectives partnered with a special prosecutor with the Tulsa County District Attorney’s Office
who specializes in intellectual property and trademark infringement. Through
collaborations with Nintendo Corporation, a representative determined that
the Pokémon cards were in fact counterfeit. The cards that were sold by the
suspect had little to no value on their own, however were being sold as “rare
collectors cards” for $350 per card.
On November 1, Officers arrested Michael McCoy at a local Post Office as
he was in the process of mailing more counterfeit cards to another potential
victim.
McCoy is now charged with:
- Obtaining Merchandise by False Pretense over $1000 x 5
- Violation of Trademark Anti-Counterfeiting Act
McCoy also had warrants for his arrest out of Arkansas.
This is an arrest, not a conviction.

A 19-year-old Sayre woman allegedly led police officers on a high-speed pursuit on November 18. She was
driving with just a learner’s permit.
According to reports, Erica Lee Holmes was traveling
through Elk City when an officer noticed that she was
driving faster than the poster 35 miles per hour speed
limit. He attempted to pull her over, but Holmes just kept
going.
At one point, the officer watched as Holmes zigzagged back and forth along the bumper of another vehicle. Holmes eventually came to a stop and told the officer
that she didn’t see him.
When the officer searched the woman’s vehicle, he found a cold, half-full
can of beer. Holmes was driving with just a learner’s permit; she didn’t have a
valid driver’s license at the time of her arrest.
Holmes is being charged with endangering others while eluding/attempting
to elude a police officer, transporting an open container of an alcoholic beverage, and violation of driver’s license restriction. Her bond was set at $500.
A warrant was issued for her arrest on December 5, 2022 when she failed to
show up for court. Watch for her mugshot in an upcoming edition of Jailbirds!

Graham Price of South Wales ripped off the bank where he worked, but he wasn’t
completely duplicitous. He left a note in the safe: “Borrowed, seven million pounds”—
signed “Graham Price.”
A Good Samaritan noticed an elderly man being robbed, so he jumped in and
punched the thief. The thief was so upset, he called the police to complain.
When Stephan Crane broke into the Ravelli Republic (Montana) newsroom, he used
the computers to watch porn and check Facebook. Then Crane doused the offi ce with
a fi re extinguisher, took some candy, and left. It wasn’t diffi cult to fi nd him, however; the
police just followed the trail of stolen M&Ms that led to his sister’s place across the way.
When police in Vancouver, Canada, asked to search Jason Pauchay’s apartment
for drugs, he was not a suspect—in fact, they were looking for someone else. That all
changed when they got a look at how his name was listed on his cell phone: “Jason
Pauchay Drug Dealer.”
Two men decided a back-to-school event at an offi ce supply store would be the perfect time to do some shoplifting. After all, store clerks would be busy helping an infl ux of
shoppers. The sale happened to coincide with the annual “Shop with a Cop” day when
about 60 police offi cers show up to help children pick out school supplies.
Adan Juarez Ramirez had it all fi gured out—he could be a cop without having to take
the boring test. But he was arrested in Grapevine, Texas, after pulling over a driver in his
pickup truck, outfi tted with fl ashing lights. He even had an ID badge, which he’d made
by blacking out a restaurant gift card and etching in the word “POLICE.” However,
he’d kept the restaurant’s logo, a jalapeño pepper surrounded by the words “Chipotle
Mexican Grill.”
A Target store in Augusta, Georgia, agreed to take back a printer from a dissatisfi ed
customer. Then the clerk noticed some work the customer forgot to remove from the
machine: Counterfeit bills.
Two machete-wielding men barged into a Sydney, Australia, bar demanding money.
They didn’t know the club was hosting a bikers’ meeting at the time. One of the robbers
ended up in the hospital, the other hog-tied with electrical wire.
In Mesa, Arizona, a home break-in was foiled when the burglar jumped through the
bedroom window—and got trapped in a clothes hamper. Cops took it from there. (That
defi nitely wasn’t the kind of clean getaway he had planned.)

FORMER WATONGA POLICE CHIEF PLEADS GUILTY TO ILLEGAL
RECEIPT OF A FIREARM WHILE UNDER INDICTMENT
Early last month, William Shawn Kays,
39, of Mustang, pleaded guilty to one felony
count of illegal receipt of a firearm by a person under indictment, announced U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester. Federal law prohibits
those under felony indictment from receiving
firearms and ammunition.
On June 8, 2022, a federal grand jury returned a three-count Second Superseding
Indictment against Kays. Count 1 charged
him with illegal receipt of a firearm and alleged
that on or about August 15, 2021, Kays received a Glock .45 caliber pistol while under
indictment for the felony offense of Burglary
in the First Degree, charged in Blaine County
District Court case number CF-2021-52. Counts 2 and 3 charged him with
being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
On November 1, 2022, at a plea hearing before Chief U.S. District Judge
Timothy DeGiusti, Kays pled guilty to Count 1. Kays admitted that he willfully
received a firearm on August 15, 2021 and received the firearm knowing that
he was under a pending indictment for a felony offense. The government
agreed to dismiss Counts 2 and 3 at sentencing.
At sentencing, Kays faces up to 5 years in prison, up to a $250,000 fine,
and up to three years of supervised release. A sentencing hearing will take
place in approximately 90 days.
