A Canadian County couple accused
of abusing their three adopted children
has had their trial date postponed until
May 22, court records show.
John and Sonja Kluth’s trial was
scheduled to begin May 7, but prosecutors submitted a motion for continuance May 4 due to a doctor having an
emergency surgery and was not able to
testify as a witness.
The Yukon couple were charged Feb.
22 with child abuse and neglect after
they allegedly tortured the three children they had adopted - beating them, burning
them, locking them in cages and feeding them dog food.
According to prosecutors, the Kluths abused the children by holding them in an
underground cellar and then locking them in small dog crates. The children, which
included a 15-year-old boy, an 11-year-old boy and an 8-year-old girl, were not fed
often. But when they were fed, the couple gave the boys dog food and the girl cat
food. In either case the children were not allowed to ask for food or tell anyone that
they were hungry.
Investigators say the couple would beat the children with the buckle end of belts
and broomsticks until they lost consciousness. The 15-year-old boy’s tongue and skin
was repeatedly burned with scalding water or heated up kitchen utensils while his
tongue and genitals were pinched with pliers. The couple also smashed the boy’s fingers and toes with a mallet, strangled him until he lost consciousness, beat him with
a horse whip and stabbed him with a knife.
The girl was was beaten with broomsticks and mop handles, shoved into doors and
counter tops, punched in the face and then thrown to the ground. An earring was
ripped from her ear and she was struck with a telephone - breaking one of her teeth.
If the children were defiant in any way, they were again confined to dog crates in
the cellar and forced to go without food for long periods of time.
Trial date postponed

A federal jury convicted a
79-year-old businessman of conspiracy, wire fraud and money
laundering in a $3.8 million real
estate Ponzi scheme, prosecutors
said.
The jury deliberated for less
than 3 hours in April before convicting Joseph Angelo Sivigliano,
of Oklahoma City, of 46 counts of
conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering, the U.S. Attorney’s
Office said.
Sivigliano sold real estate “investment opportunities” in Helping Hearts and Hands Inc., based in
Bethany, Okla. Prosecutors said he took $3.8 million from 67 investors, using new money to pay off earlier investors, and himself, his
associates and his businesses, including Celebrity Limo and Valet
Corp., MC Productions Inc., and Lansbrook Worship & Event Center,
which is owned and operated by his daughter and grandson.
“Sivigliano held HHH out to investors as a legitimate 501(c)(3)
charitable organization engaged in real estate investments to benefit
philanthropic ventures such as its Christian childcare facility ‘Teaching Little Hearts and Hands,’” prosecutors said in a statement.
“However, Sivigliano was not a registered investment advisor or
broker-dealer in the State of Oklahoma and HHH was not registered
as a licensed securities firm or otherwise authorized to sell securities
in the State of Oklahoma.
“Prosecutors said investors lost $1.7 million in the scheme.
Sivigliano faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a fine of
$500,000.
Co-conspirators Dwight Pimson, 57, of Shreveport, La., and Venus
Marie Pimson, 43, of Yukon, Okla., pleaded guilty to conspiracy to
commit wire fraud in November.
The Pimsons testified against Sivigliano; each faces up to 5 years in
federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

Clayton Lockett
Convicted and sentenced to Death
in the 1999 murder of Stephanie
Nieman.
The spree in June, 1999, began
when Lockett and two others
forced their way into Bobby Bornt’s
residence in Perry, police said.
Nieman, 19, of Perry and another
19-year-old from Perry arrived at the
home and were accosted by the men
and had their hands bound with duct
tape. One of the women was raped.
Authorities said the women did not know the suspects. Bornt,
his nine-month-old son and the two women were taken to a
location in Kay County where Neiman was shot. Police said
the others were put back in trucks, driven back to Perry and
released. The child was not harmed. Neiman’s body was
found in a shallow grave along a dirt road near Tonkawa.
One of the suspects led police to the body. The woman’s two
friends have said they believed they were allowed to live
because they had children. In addition to the murder charge,
Lockett was found guilty of conspiracy, fi rst-degree burglary,
three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, three
counts of forcible oral sodomy, four counts of fi rst-degree
rape, four counts of kidnapping and two counts of robbery by
force and fear.
Alfonzo LaRon Veasey Lockett, 19, of Ponca City and
Shawn C. Mathis, 27, also have been ordered held for trial in
Neiman’s death. The Locketts are cousins from Ponca City.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Well, spring is in full swing,
and with that comes the potential
for severe weather. Ever since
we were kids, we’ve been drilled on what to do in the event
of a tornado or other significant weather event. Our school
systems have drills, our workplaces have drills, and our cities
test our early warning sirens every week. But what if we aren’t
at home, work or school? What if we are going to or from
those places, or just out and about in our vehicles? Not much
emphasis is placed on this, so I thought I would put down some
tips on what to do if you are faced with this situation.
First and foremost, DON’T PANIC! Be prepared at all times
when driving to take evasive action or drive to shelter. Part of
this means being aware of your surroundings at all times to
know where shelter is. Bad weather doesn’t just appear out of
nowhere, so when you are driving in bad weather, be thinking
of what you will do if bad weather turns worse!
Vehicles are extremely dangerous in a tornado. If the tornado
is visible, far away, and the traffic is light, you may be able to
drive out of its path by moving at right angles to the tornado.
Otherwise, park the car as quickly and safely as possible -- out
of the traffic lanes. It is safer to get the car out of mud later if
necessary than to cause a crash. Get out and seek shelter in a
sturdy building. If in the open country, run to low ground away
from any cars (which may roll over on you). Lie flat and facedown, protecting the back of your head with your arms. Avoid
seeking shelter under bridges, which can create deadly traffic
hazards while offering little protection against flying debris.
One thing to remember though, is that some of these options
may be your only option of shelter, so if its all you have, use it!
Also, please don’t chase the storm! I know that the awesome
power of nature is a big attraction to some people, but driving
towards tornadoes is a big risk. Tornadoes are unpredictable,
fast, and unforgiving. Given that they can pick up cars and
trucks and deposit them hundreds of yards away, we should
respect that power and avoid it at all costs! Another thing to
think about is the aftermath. Emergency services will need
to respond to injuries, rescues, etc. If you put your vehicle
in the way, and it becomes disabled, destroyed, etc., you run
the chance of hindering that response. As always, thanks for
reading, buckle up and be safe!

Every year during Prom and graduation season,
there are many reports of parents going to jail for
hosting parties and providing alcohol to minors at
their homes. Do you think it is okay to provide alcohol
to minors under any circumstances?
Poll
Michelle M: I have allowed my own
two children to try a beer and also a
mixed drink but they had to remain at my
home, not out with friends experimenting or placing themselves or anyone else
in danger. It satisfies the curiosity and allows me to be present to supervise without worry. They and their friends now
call me and ask if I can be a DD or if I
will come get them in the middle of the
night, they also come home to my house
to drink as they are of age now to do so.
They are at least comfortable knowing
that MOM will be there to make sure they
are cared for and no harm is brought to
any of them. My children were the only
ones drinking unless the other parents
were present as I was responsible for my
children and they were to be responsible
for theirs. It was an understanding we
shared as parents.
Elaine B: NO NO AND DEFINITELY
NO!! I lost a good friend of 14 years when
he was just a month shy of his 16th birthday and getting his license.
Jennifer N: I don’t think it’s right
that you can take a bullet for our country
at 18, but you cannot take a drink in it till
you’re 21. That said, 21 is the legal drinking age -- I’m not hosting any parties and
I’d be on the warpath if another adult encouraged my kids to break the law...
Jennifer L: I’ve Never Really Been A
Drinker & There’s No Way My Mother
Would Have Let Me, But Being 20, I’ve
Been To A Few Parties That Had Parents.
They Didn’t Let Anyone Drive Or Anything If They Had Been Drinking. I’m Not
All For It But I’m Also Not All Against
It. It Depends On Who The Parents Are
& What Kind Of People They Are. They
Prolly Only Allow It, Because They Know
The Minors Would Be Supervised & It
Also Depends On The Age Of The Minors
As Well. I’m Just Saying, If My Kid Was
Gunna Drink, I’d Rather Them Drink In
Front Of Responsible Adults, Then To
Go Out Backroading Or What Have You
With A Bunch Of Irresponsible Kids.
AuntTerra M: It’s against the law.
Would not risk getting my mug in OKJailbirds
Mark C: And let me guess here...just
a HUNCH: Every one of you that think
it’s OK for minors to drink also sit around
and moan, bitch, gripe and complain
about SMOKERS too, right? Uh huh...
thought so!
Stephanie M: Yes! Letting your child
drink in your supervision is better than
them keeping it from you! Hate to tell
you but more teens drink than what society wants to believe ..... why not take the
time to teach your kids how to be responsible about it? I was taught early on what
it does and i used to have a beer or two
with my grandmother (not here in the
states).
Donna T: Absolutely NOT, under any
circumstances would I provide my child
liquor!!!!!!! Parents ought to be arrested.
Murdock H: I think if it’s in your
home with your own kids it’s totally fine,
especially at 18. If you can be sent off to
serve and possibly die for your country,
you ought to be able to have some drinks.
Doug F: Law is the law and no parents should set examples that are right
not how to break the law. I’ve raised four
and they never had parties by me
Adam O: When supervised and moderated by responsible parents, yes. Compared to them sneaking around and hiding the fact that they are drinking, its a
no brainer.
Darlene L: I don’t agree with Parents
providing Alcohol to teens in their own
home. It amazes me how some parents
find nothing wrong with watching their
children and other people’s children getting drunk while under their care. The
parents should go to jail in my opinion.
Susan W: No. Its scientific fact that a
high school age child’s brain is not fully
developed. Why potentially cheat your
child out of that development?

OHP Trooper Kelly Banwart was
on routine patrol April 21 heading
east on Highway 3 approaching Burford in Watonga when he saw the
silver Dodge pickup directly in front
of him weaving inside its lane. About
that time, a plastic ice bag came flying out of the back of the pickup. As
he got closer to the truck, another
bag blew out of the back of it. He activated his lights to conduct a trffic
stop.
Banwart approached the driver’s
side of the truck and asked the driver, Tessia Miller, 21, for her license and insurance. She was
able to finally get it after some difficulty. He told her the reason
for the stop and immediately smelled the odor of booze coming
from inside the truck.
Banwart asked Miller how much she had to drink, and she
replied that she drank about four of five beers.
“Why are you driving when the owner of the vehicle is sitting
in the passenger’s seat?” Banwart asked.
“I was trying to help a friend,” she replied.
Banwart had Miller step out of the truck and he performed
field sobriety test. During the horizontal gaze test, he noticed
that she had a constant sway. She said she couldn’t do the walk
and turn because of a knee injury. He then placed her under
arrest for DUI.
Inside the truck, Banwart found several half empty cold beer
cans under the seat and the passenger said all the cans were
both of theirs.
At the jail, Miller blew a .16 on the breath test and was booked
into Blaine County Jail on complaints of DUI, failure to secure
or cover load susceptible to blowing, and transporting an open
container.

Police in Texas said a pair of attempted robbers
were scared off when their own gun went off during
the crime.
Investigators said two men with their faces covered walked into the Valero Corner Store on Culebra
Road in San Antonio and demanded cash from the
clerk. However, the men fl ed empty handed when
one of their guns accidentally went off. Police said
there were no injuries and offi cers are searching for
suspects.
A 20-year-old man is scheduled to appear in court
on charges that he impersonated a police offi cer.
Chadwyck Voegeli of Fort Wayne was arrested after
he attempted to pull a car over with what appeared
to be a phone displaying red and blue fl ashing lights.
He pulled up next to the car laughing until he saw
the person he attempted to stop fl ash a Fort Wayne
police badge. Two off-duty offi cers were riding in the
car in front of Voegeli. The suspect tried to drive off
but the offi cers followed him to a bar off Leo Road.
Uniformed offi cers arrived at the scene and after a
short chase on foot through the bar, Voegeli was arrested.
A man was given a three-day jail sentence for contempt of court after his wardrobe didn’t pass judicial
muster. LaMarcus D. Ramsey, 20, was in Autauga
County Circuit Court to enter a plea on a charge of
receiving stolen property. Circuit Judge John Bush
took exception to the fact that Ramsey’s blue jeans
were sagging too low. The three-day stint will be
served in the Autauga Metro jail.
“You are in contempt of court because you showed
your butt in court,” a visibly irate Bush told Ramsey.
“You can spend three days in jail. When you get out
you can buy pants that fi t, or at least get a belt to hold
up your pants so your underwear doesn’t show.”
A woman was arrested at her step son’s Boy Scout
meeting. While watching a policeman demonstrate
his drug dog’s ability, the dog found a bag of grass
in her purse.
R.C. Gaitlan, 21, walked up to two patrol offi cers
who were showing their squad car computer felonlocation equipment to children in a Detroit neighborhood. When he asked how the system worked,
the offi cer asked him for identifi cation. Gaitlan gave
them his drivers license, they entered it into the
computer, and moments later they arrested Gaitlan
because information on the screen showed Gaitlan
was wanted for a two-year-old armed robbery in St.
Louis, Missouri.

Watonga Police Officer David Robertson
was dispatched to a home in the 500 block
of N. Wikoff in reference to a man with a
gun. Upon arrival he spoke with the victim
who said Russell Fee, 60, had stopped
in front of her house and pointed a gun
at her. She added Fee was driving a dark
blue Chevy pickup and had stopped on the
road. He motioned to her to walk over to
him and then told her he was going to put
her son in the cemetery. He then picked up
a silver pistol and began waving it in her
direction. The victim said she was afraid he
was going to shoot her, so she walked away. Fee then sped away and
turned on 6th st. towards Leach. The victim added she then heard
gun shots coming from Leach a few minutes later.
Robertson told the woman to stay at her house. Deputy Spiva and
he drove to the Fee’s house on Leach to see what was going on.
Upon arrival, both officers approached slowly and ordered Fee
outside through the open front door. They could hear Fee yelling
back at them to leave him alone and get off his yard.
While Robertson was trying to talk Fee out of the house, Fee walked
by the front door holding a silver pistol. Robertson ordered Fee to
drop the weapon and come outside, all the while advising dispatch of
the situation and requesting more officers to assist.
After a few minutes, Fee came out of the house with his hands in
the air. He was placed on the ground and taken into custody.
Robertson went inside the house and retrieved a chrome .22 cal
Phoenix Arms gun, which was loaded with a magazine and one round
in the chamber. He also recovered a second magazine fully loaded
with 18 rounds total.
Fee was then transported to Blaine County Jail without further
incident and booked on charges of feloniously pointing a firearm and
discharging of a firearm.

Answer: The first thing to understand in this discussion is that
there is only one race—the human
race. Caucasians, Africans, Asians,
Indians, Arabs, and Jews are not
different races. Rather, they are
different ethnicities of the human
race. All human beings have the
same physical characteristics (with
minor variations, of course). More
importantly, all human beings are
created in the image and likeness
of God (Genesis 1:26-27). God
loved the world so much that He
sent Jesus to lay down His life for
us (John 3:16). The “world” obviously includes all ethnic groups.
God does not show partiality or favoritism (Deuteronomy 10:17;
Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11; Ephesians 6:9), and neither should
we. James 2:4 describes those who discriminate as “judges with
evil thoughts.” Instead, we are to love our neighbors as ourselves
(James 2:8). All forms of racism, prejudice, and discrimination are
affronts to the work of Christ on the cross.
Jesus commands us to love one another as He loves us (John
13:34). If God is impartial and loves us with impartiality, then we
need to love others with that same high standard. Jesus teaches in
Matthew 25 that whatever we do to the least of His brothers, we
do to Him. If we treat a person with contempt, we are mistreating
a person created in God’s image; we are hurting somebody whom
God loves and for whom Jesus died.
Racism, in varying forms and to various degrees, has been a
plague on humanity for thousands of years. Brothers and sisters of
all ethnicities, this should not be. Victims of racism, prejudice, and
discrimination need to forgive. Ephesians 4:32 declares, “Be kind
and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in
Christ God forgave you.” Racists may not deserve your forgiveness,
but we deserved God’s forgiveness far less.
What does the Bible say about racism,
prejudice, and discrimination?
