HURST CAUGHT WITH NEWBORN PORN
Members of the Canadian County
Sheriff’s Office arrested Bryan Hurst,
46, of Mustang, on Wednesday, August 30, for aggravated possession of
child pornography.
The National Center of Missing and
Exploited Children (NCMEC) received
a cybertip regarding Hurst uploading
child pornography to a popular social
media site. NCMEC alerted Oklahoma
State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI)
of the cybertip when they found Hurst
may be living in Mustang. Since Canadian County Sheriff’s Office is part of
OSBI’s Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, the case was assigned
to the sheriff’s office for investigation.
Deputies obtained a search warrant for Hurst’s residence for electronic
devices that could contain child pornography.
On August 30, Deputies executed the search warrant at Hurst’s residence. Hurst told investigators he did have access to the social media
account referred by NCMEC but when he learned why deputies were there
he requested a lawyer. Sheriff’s deputies conducted forensic examinations
in the house and found two devices containing over 100 images and videos of child pornography.
“The images and videos Hurst had were terrifying. Some images were of
newborn children being sexually abused. It sickens me that anyone could
collect this filth,” said Chris West, Canadian County Sheriff.
Investigators collected numerous photographs, videos and chat records
where Hurst was in possession and trading child pornography with other
internet users. The images and video include children young as newborn
being sexually abused.
Investigators seized multiple electronic devices from the home for further
forensic examination. Hurst was transported to the Canadian County Jail,
where he was booked on two counts of Aggravated Possession of Child
Pornography. His bond was established at $100,000, and he has bonded
out of jail.
The Sheriff’s Internet Crimes against Children unit continues to operate
under the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations ICAC Task Force.

decisions is being increasingly seen as a brain disease. There are more and more studies supporting
such evidence, and the Legislature wants to do everything it can to eliminate the drug addiction that
harms our state. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful this session with
passing a bill that would’ve allowed licensed pharmacists to prescribe Naloxone, which helps combat drug overdoses. There are two versions of the
bill, and I’m hopeful we’ll see passage next year.
I am thankful, though, that Attorney General Mike Hunter has started
cracking down on physicians who overprescribe as well as pharmaceutical companies who mislead physicians about opioid use. It’s a good thing
when the executive and legislative branches can work to combat such a
critical issue.
Q: Has House Bill 1482 adding a provision to State Question 780 been
passed by the Senate yet?
A: HB1482 actually stalled in the Senate, but it’s possible it will be taken
up again once the Legislature resumes in February.
Q: What is your position on Oklahoma State Question 788?
A: It would be inappropriate for me to lobby for or against the state
question because I am a state representative. However, I can say that I
am thankful we have a process for citizens to get issues on the ballot. The
initiative petition process worked exactly as intended here, and I’m looking
forward to seeing how Oklahomans cast their vote on State Question 788.
Q: Is there anything else that has happened in this past legislative session that would be interesting to our readers?
A: While session only technically lasts from February until May, policy
talks occur year-round for lawmakers. We will begin working in specific
policy groups this fall to shape next year’s bills, and interim studies will
ramp up beginning in August. I would not be surprised to see more opioid-related legislation introduced in the coming sessions.

LOOKING FOR A YOUNG BRICK HOUSE
A Sayre man, looking for a sweet young
thang, was arrested in Canadian County
after he brought lingerie to a rendez-vous in
which he thought he would be hooking up
with a 14-year-old girl.
Gary Brickhouse, 53, was charged August
31 with lewd or indecent acts to a child, in Canadian County District Court.
According to the Canadian County Sheriff’s
Office, Canadian County Sheriff’s Deputies
conducted an undercover online investigation on popular social media websites that are
commonly used to exploit children. Gary Brickhouse’s ad was specific in what he wanted, “Looking for younger in OKC.”
Investigators quickly responded to this ad, and it was not long until Brickhouse responded. Communication was first made by email and
evolved into text messaging. During the conversation Brickhouse said he
was bringing sex toys, and lingerie and asked if the under-aged girl liked
to sleep with older men.
During communication with the under-aged girl, Brickhouse asked the
girl if she was into oral sex, and graphically described sex acts he wanted
to perform with her when they met up. Brickhouse told the fourteen year
old girl that he wanted to tie her up, and graphically described the heinous
sex acts he wanted to perform on her young body.
“In my opinion, Brickhouse is a serious threat to the well-being of children, and he needs to be locked away. His sexual fantasies of having sex
with children is a serious concern to me, and should be to every other
parent,” said Christ West, Canadian County Sheriff.
On August 19, Brickhouse drove to a predetermined location in Canadian County to meet with the under-aged girl, and was instead greeted
by Canadian County Sheriff’s Deputies who took him into custody. Brickhouse admitted to talking to a 14-year-old female, and driving there to
meet with her. Deputies found adult female lingerie consisting of fishnet
stockings, and a bra and panties in the silver Ford Focus he was driving.
The lingerie sizes were consistent with what the under-aged girl had told
him she wore, and were in the Hustler packaging from when Brickhouse
purchased them.
Brickhouse was transported to the Canadian County Jail and his bond
was set at $50,000 and his preliminary hearing is set for October 27 at 9
am.

professional, and leave the information with your friend. You can call health
professionals in advance to see if they are comfortable speaking with their
patients about addiction. If not, ask for a referral to another doctor with more
expertise in the area of addiction. There are 3,500 board-certified physicians
who specialize in addiction in the United States. The American Society of
Addiction Medicine website has a Find a Physician feature on its home page.
The American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry also has a Patient Referral
Program.
Emphasize to your friend or loved one that it takes a lot of courage to seek
help for a drug problem because there is a lot of hard work ahead. There is a
great deal of scientific evidence that treatment works, and people recover every day. Like other chronic diseases, addiction can be managed successfully.
Treatment enables people to counteract the powerfully disruptive effects of
drugs on the brain and behavior and to regain control of their lives. Like many
diseases, it can take several attempts at treatment to find the right approach.
But assure your friend or loved one that you will be supportive in his or her
courageous effort.

TEEN FACES ADULT MURDER CHARGES
The 14-year-old suspect in the murder of
a Cordell woman has been charged as an
adult.
Blaize Teague, of Corn, was charged with
murder- irst degree, shooting with intent to
kill, and burglary- irst degree, in Washita
County District Court.
According to OSBI, special agents made
an arrest August 16 in the murder of Tammi Thomas, 36, inside her home on July 20,
2017. A 14-year-old boy was taken into custody on a warrant.
Thomas was shot inside her Cordell home
during a home invasion, and her 14-year-old
son was also shot in the shoulder. Both victims were taken to an Oklahoma City hospital. Tammi Thomas died shortly
after she arrived. The boy was released from the hospital a few days later.
Teague was arrested at his home in Corn and booked into the Washita County jail.
According to the probable cause affidavit, evidence at the scene was also
found inside Teague’s home.
Court records state Teague is being held without bond at a juvenile detention facility in Beckham County. His preliminary hearing is set for November
7 at 9 am.

Goodwin acted in self-defense when
shooting Jonathan Richard Daukei,
38, on July 19, 2017, in Blaine County, announced Mark A. Yancey, United States Attorney for the Western
District of Oklahoma.
Daukei, a member of the Cheyenne & Arapaho Tribes, was shot after a vehicle pursuit ended on tribal
land. Daukei survived the shooting
and is facing a state felony charge for
attempting to elude officers. “After a thorough review of the FBI’s investigation, I have determined the officers in this case reasonably believed Trooper
Robertson was at risk of death or great bodily harm given Mr. Daukei’s reckless operation of his vehicle,” said Yancey.

MICHAEL DEWAYNE SMITH
Michael DeWayne Smith was a member of
the Oak Grove Posse, a subset of the Crips
gang in Oklahoma City. On November 8,
2000, three members of the Oak Grove Posse attempted to rob Tran’s Food Mart in south
Oklahoma City. The three robbers were Teron “T-Nok” Armstrong, Kenneth “Peanut” Kinchion, and Dewayne “Pudgy-O” Shirley. During
the course of the robbery attempt, the owner of
the store shot and killed Armstrong. Kinchion
and Shirley were eventually arrested. Smith
was not involved in the attempted robbery but
had close personal ties to Armstrong.
On Friday, February 22, 2002, two days before the trial of Kinchion and Shirley was scheduled to start, Smith left
his apartment in the Del Mar Apartments in Oklahoma City early in the
morning. His roommate, Marcus Berry (also known as Marcus Compton),
saw Smith take a .357 caliber revolver with him. Smith went first to Janet
Moore’s apartment looking for her son Phillip Zachary who he believed
was a police informant. Smith had earlier told Berry that “snitches need
to be dead.”
The evidence supports the conclusion that Smith arrived at Moore’s
apartment sometime before 6:30 a.m. Shoe prints indicated that Smith
kicked in her front door and then her bedroom door. Moore began
screaming, and, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a downstairs neighbor heard
arguing between a man and a woman and then a single “pop” followed
by footsteps.
Later that morning around 7:30 a.m. Smith arrived at A-Z Mart, a convenience store approximately fifteen miles from the Del Mar Apartments. A-Z
Mart was immediately next door to Tran’s Food Mart, the site of the earlier
robbery attempt where Armstrong had been killed. The clerk on duty that
morning at A-Z Mart was Sarath “Babu” Pulluru. Pulluru was filling in for
the store owner who was taking the day off. Smith told detectives that
he emptied two pistols into Pulluru, took some money, and used bottles
of Ronsonol lighter fluid to start fires in the store. Smith said he set fire
to the cash register, Pulluru’s body, and a back room in order to destroy
evidence. Shoeprints at the scene tracked Pulluru’s blood from the cash
register area, where his body was found, down the aisle to where the Ronsonol lighter fluid was displayed for sale. The bloody shoe prints at the A-Z
Mart were similar to the shoe prints found at Moore’s apartment.
