A couple of men found themselves behind bars after
they allegedly broke into a residence in the 500 block
of S. Muskogee in Claremore to steal some copper.
According to the affidavit, Claremore police responded to the residence March 5 due to two suspicious male subjects at a construction site. The reporting party told police two men were stealing lumber
from a house that was under construction.
Police found Collinsville man Billy Joe Weaver, 51,
and 44-year-old Steven Dwain Ousley of Broken Arrow standing in the front yard. Officers also found several pieces of copper pipe in the backseat of the men’s
car.
After investigating the scene, they determined
Weaver and Ousley took the pipe from a water heater
in the residence.
Police placed the men under arrest.
During inventory of the car, an officer located a jacket containing “numerous items of property belonging
to the owner of the residence.” The jacket belonged to
Weaver.
Ousley told police the he never went inside the residence; he said he was just trying to get the vehicle out
of the mud. He explained that the construction company owned the residence,
and he and Weaver were told to look at the residence to “see if it was worth salvaging.”
The owner of the home, who was not the owner of the construction company,
told police the men did not have permission to be in the residence.
Weaver admitted to police that he entered the residence and stole some copper,
along with the other items found in the vehicle.
Both men are being charged with burglary in the second degree, knowingly
concealing stolen property and entering with intent to steal copper.
Weaver and Ousley’s bonds were set at $14,000.

With this most recent ice
and snow storm that gripped
Oklahoma, there obviously were
some significant obstacles to safe driving. One that I have noticed,
that doesn’t really get a lot of attention, is the visibility that is
obstructed by iced over windshields and windows on vehicles. I’m
going to touch on some of that, to try to raise some awareness
about it, and give some tips to help us stay safe.
We’ve all seen it...a vehicle coming down the road with just a
small hole scraped in the windshield so the driver could see the
road. Every time I see it, I cringe! The law that governs this is
Oklahoma State Statute 47:12-404.C, which states: “No person
shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign, poster, other nontransparent material, or debris, including but not limited to snow,
ice, or frost upon the front windshield or the side wings, or side
or rear windows......which obstructs, obscures, or impairs the
driver’s clear view of the highway ahead or to either side or of any
intersecting highway.” What this means to the everyday driver is
that the little hole you scraped to drive by, just won’t cut it! While
compliance is the goal, the reason is safety! Obviously the chances
of an accident drastically increase as visibility decreases...so why
limit our vision to just a small hole out the front windshield?
There are several ways to clear those windshields, both
mechanically and chemically. A simple ice scraper has been the
preferred method for as long as most people can remember. They
are inexpensive, and easy to find. Another method is simply to
go out 10 minutes before you leave, start your car up, and get the
defroster going! When the windows are clear, you are good to go.
Still another way is to obtain any number of chemical de-icing
sprays that are available at most stores. Don’t pour hot water
on your windows, as the change in temperatures can cause your
window to crack or break!
While we are talking about it, lets not forget about those side and
rear widows. A significant percentage of accidents happen while
backing, so it stands to reason that we need to be able to see out
our back glass as well as the front. Side windows are no different,
no one wants to be struck by a vehicle they couldn’t see when they
pull into an intersection. After you finish with those side windows,
go ahead and hit those side mirrors as well!
All of these suggestions simply take a little extra time, and
sometimes money, but the time and money pale in comparison to
the impact on time and money that an accident will have on you, or
others. As a safe, courteous driver, you owe it to yourself and your
fellow drivers! Thanks for reading, buckle up and be safe!

A Bethel Heights, Arkansas, man tried to use
an arrest to get revenge on his brother who had
gotten him in trouble before. Unfortunately for
him, it didn’t work -- he’s gonna have to think of
another way to get back at his bro!
According to the police report, a Jay police officer received a call about a drunk man who had
just left the casino after casino staff refused to
serve him more alcohol on March 6.
The officer located the suspect vehicle and
conducted a traffic stop near Highway 59 and Cherokee Lane.
The driver told the officer he didn’t have his driver’s license, but
he gave the officer his name and birthdate. Dispatch was unable to
locate a license.
The man smelled like alcohol, and when the officer asked him to
step out of the vehicle, he was unsteady on his feet. He admitted to
drinking “2 or 3 beers.” A preliminary breath test revealed his breath
alcohol level was .12.
The officer placed the man under arrest.
While inventorying the man’s vehicle, the officer found an Arkansas identification card that identified the man as 31-year-old Zeder
Peter. The officer asked him if that was his name -- the man said no,
that was his brother. He denied being Zeder multiple times.
The officer spoke to the man’s wife, who was still at the casino. She
said her husband had left and his name was Zeder Peter.
The officer took the man to jail.
After being booked into a cell, he asked the officer if he could speak
with him. He allegedly told the officer, “Yes, I was lying. I am Zeder
Peter.”
He told the officer he used his brother’s name, because wanted to
get his brother in trouble. He explained that his brother had done
that to him before.
Peter is being charged with falsely personate another to create liability, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol
aggravated, obstructing officer and driving with license canceled/
suspended/revoked. He was released on a $5,250 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 6, 2015.

Nowata man Mathew Dillan Hindman, 20, wouldn’t given an officer
permission to search his vehicle during a traffic stop on February 27. He told
the officer he could just search the vehicle with his “f------ dog.”
A Nowata County deputy stopped Hindman just north of Delaware Street on
U.S. Highway 169 shortly after 11 p.m. According to the affidavit, the deputy had
seen Hindman’s vehicle cross over the white fog line.
Hindman appeared to be nervous, and he wouldn’t make eye contact with
the deputy.
The deputy retrieved his K9 from his patrol vehicle. He asked Hindman if there was anything illegal in the
vehicle. Hindman said no, then told the deputy he was going to get out of the truck.
The deputy advised him to stay in the truck, unless he was going to let the deputy search it.
Hindman so nicely replied, “No, you can search it with your f------ dog.”
The K9 alerted on the vehicle, and the deputy told Hindman to get out of the truck.
Police search Hindman’s vehicle, and they found a set of scales that contained a green leafy substance that
smelled like marijuana. Hindman said they weren’t his.
The deputy placed the man under arrest and asked him if he had anything illegal on his person. Hindman
admitted he had a couple of ounces in his pants.
At the jail, Hindman handed over a baggy containing a green leafy substance that field-tested positive for
marijuana.
Hindman is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of
drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $1,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on March 30, 2015.

Sallisaw man Dylan John Martin, 23, allegedly
stole a golf cart March 8 because he was drunk, and
he didn’t want to walk home.
A Sallisaw police officer was dispatched to a local
golf course due to someone stealing a golf cart. After
getting a description of the stolen cart, officers drove
around the area, but they were unable to locate it.
At approximately 1 p.m., police received word that
Martin had been driving a vehicle that crashed into
a ditch outside city limits past the golf course earlier
that morning. Police found him lying on the front
porch of an apartment in the 1900 block of W. Ruth.
According to the affidavit, Martin had previously been banned from the golf
course, so officers immediately placed him under arrest for trespassing. Martin
told police that he was drunk earlier, and he wrecked the golf cart. He said he was
stumbling home when he decided to take the cart because he “did not want to
walk home.” He broke into the building where the golf carts were kept and jacked
someone’s brand new golf ride.
Martin showed police where he parked the cart. It was hidden in some trees
behind the apartments where police found him.
The golf cart had a flat tire, and there was a gas container in the front seat.
Luckily, the lazy man didn’t have to walk to jail -- police were more than happy
to take him.
Martin is being charged with burglary second degree and grand larceny. He is
scheduled to appear in court on April 22, 2015.

A Mayes County mother has been charged in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter.
Angela M. Russell, 34, of Chouteau, was charged March 6 with Murder in the second degree in
commission of a felony, in Mayes County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Sept. 27, 2014, Russell was riding a Honda ATV on
CR NS 430 Road with her 2-year-old daughter strapped to her. The child was in a forward-facing
device and she was not wearing a helmet.
Russell allegedly left the roadway and entered the right ditch, overcorrected, traveled across the
road and entered the left ditch and went into a broadslide. Russell and the child were thrown from
the ATV. Evidence suggested Russell landed face-down on the ground with the child between herself
and the ground.
The affidavit also states when first responders arrived, the child’s injuries “were catastrophic.” An OHP trooper, who was
first to arrive on scene, stated that Russell smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage. When asked about the odor, Russell allegedly said she had consumed a “couple of cinnamon shots a few hours prior.”
The child was taken to the Mayes County Medical Center where she was pronounced dead from her injuries.
An OSBI toxicology report received by the trooper on Jan. 7, 2015, stated that Russell’s blood alcohol level shortly after the
accident was approximately .173 and she tested positive for barbiturates.
Russell was taken into custody on March 6 and bond was set at $25,000. She is scheduled to appear at her preliminary
hearing on April 16 at 9:30 am.

• Loss of appetite or difficulty swallowing

• Sudden, unexplained avoidance of certain people or places

A night of drinking took a turn for a Vinita couple, who
allegedly attacked each other once they got home from their
evening of libations.
On March 7, Vinita police were dispatched to a residence
in the 600 block of N. Maywood shortly after 2 a .m. for a
domestic in progress. When they arrived, they made contact
with Toni Lee Jones, 29, and 30-year-old Christopher William Hanes.
Jones told the officers she and Hanes had been at a friend’s
drinking, and they started arguing when they got back home.
She said Hanes took her cellphone, keys, and mail from her
purse, then pushed her out the front door and gave her purse
back to her, but with those items missing.
An officer noticed the door jam was broken -- Jones said
Hanes kicked the door in when they got home.
Hanes told the officers Jones started arguing with him
when they got back home. He said she hit with something as
he was trying to leave the living room. Hanes said he then
pushed her out the front door and locked it behind her. He
did give her her purse and shoes though.
Hanes told police Jones came back 10 minutes later and
“broke through the front door.”
Both subjects had marks on them from the incident.
The officers told Hanes and Jones to speak to each other to
see if they could work it out.
Nope.
They started arguing and told the officers they wanted to
press charges against each other.
Well, OK then!
The officers placed them both under arrest and took them
to jail.
Both Jones and Hanes are being charged with domestic assault and battery.
They were both released on $1,000 bonds and are scheduled to appear in court on March
18, 2015.

Sunday evening, March 15, the Adair County Sheriff’s Office requested OSBI assistance with a homicide investigation
after deputies responded to a 911 call of a shooting that took
place near Stilwell.
When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Gary Lynn
Kester, 62, dead of a gunshot wound.
Deputies arrested Glen Kester, 58, for first degree murder
and felon in possession of a firearm after former conviction.
The brothers were engaged in an argument when Glen shot
and killed Gary. Glen was booked into the Adair County jail.
Both men lived in the area where the shooting took place.

A Wagoner couple arrested for possession on March 12 told police they were
just hanging out underneath a bridge so they could have sex.
Patricia Kathleen Huddleston, 56, and Edward Lee Alley, 57, were taken to jail
after police found out there was more going on than just a little bump and grind.
According to the affidavit, Wagoner County deputies were dispatched to the
Verdigris River Bridge shortly after 3 p.m. due to possible drug activity. They
made contact with Huddleston and Alley, who were standing near a truck. The
couple told deputies they were there to “have sexual relations with each other.”
Deputies asked them if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. They both said
no.
Police told the couple there were going to call a drug dog down to search it.
Neither one of them said anything, but a deputy noticed Huddleston was trying
to swallow a clear bag containing an unknown white crystal substance.
Police retrieved the bag and placed the couple under arrest.
The drug dog alerted on the vehicle. Police found numerous prescription bottle
that weren’t prescribed to either Huddleston or Alley, a pipe and bags that later
field-tested positive for methamphetamine. They also found numerous pills and
a metal container with a bag of a powdery unknown substance, straw and cotton
swabs inside.
The couple was taken to jail.
At the jail, a deputy searched Alley’s wallet and found a wrapper containing an
unknown black substance.
Alley is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance and
unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $5,000.
Huddleston is being charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and attempting to destroy
evidence. Her bond was set at $5,000.

Miami woman Cassandra Nicole Corntassel, 22, allegedly went on a drunken rampage and rammed her
boyfriend’s Dodge Ram truck while her 4-month-old
baby was in the car.
According to the affidavit, Miami police were dispatched to the 700 block of Harned at approximately
3:28 a.m. due to a hit and run accident. Dispatch advised the suspect was intoxicated, and she had a baby
in her car.
The victim told police his girlfriend and baby momma, Corntassel, had left his
residence and hit his truck. He said he and Corntassel started arguing, so he left
and went to his grandmother’s house. Corntassel soon showed up, and the man
said he heard a noise. When he looked outside, he saw Corntassel hit his truck
and drive off.
Police noticed damage to the victim’s truck; there was also a “slide mark in the
mud,” from where the truck had been pushed on impact.
While police were speaking to the man, Corntassel pulled up to the residence.
An officer approached the woman and asked her to step outside. She started arguing with the officer. When he tried to grab her arm to get her out of the vehicle,
she pulled away.
Eventually, the officer was able to get the woman out of the vehicle, and he
placed her in handcuffs. She smelled strongly of alcohol.
Corntassel continued to resist until she was placed in a patrol car.
The officer looked at Corntassel’s vehicle, and he observed some damage to the
front passenger side. There was also fresh mud on the tires and side of the vehicle
that was “consistent to what the accident scene showed.”
Corntassel is being charged with child endangerment and driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Her bond was set at $6,000, and she
was scheduled to appear in court on March 19, 2015.
