CONGRATULATIONS!
Congratulations to Sergeant Ryan Robison, Captain Derrick Grant and Sergeant Pete Broderick on their completion of the Oklahoma Council on Law
Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) 120 hour/three-week Criminal
Investigation Academy.
CLEET requires all full-time certified peace officers to complete a minimum
of 25 hours (with at least 2 of those hours being mental health training) of
continuing education and at least one firearms requalification each year. Many
of these continuing education trainings and all of our firearms trainings and
requalifications are held at the Norman Fisher Training Center on the grounds
of the Cherokee County Detention Center in Tahlequah.
In 2021, CCSO’s 25 full time deputies completed over 2,000 hours of continuing education.

JACKSON SENTENCED TO
THREE LIFE SENTENCES
Michael David Jackson, 40, of Tahlequah, was
sentenced to three individual life sentences on two
counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Minor Under 12 and one count of Abusive Sexual Contact
with a Child Under 12 Years. Jackson was also
sentenced to 360 months for one count of Sexual
Exploitation of a Child/Use of a Child to Produce a
Visual Depiction and 240 months for two counts of
Possession of Certain Material Involving the Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. All sentences will run
concurrently.
Jackson was convicted by a federal jury on July
1, 2021. During the trial, the United States presented evidence that Jackson was a close relative of the 11-year-old victim.
The victim testified how Jackson perpetrated the abuse and how it made her
feel. The evidence showed that Jackson began sexually abusing the victim
in the fall of 2019, and the abuse continued until late December 2019. The
child’s parents testified they relied on Jackson to provide child care while they
worked, because they thought they could trust Jackson. In his caretaking
role, Jackson had continued access to the child, which included staying overnight. Jackson used this time with the victim to sexually abuse her. The trial
evidence also proved Jackson used a cell phone camera to capture images
of the abuse.
“The sentence ordered by the Court will ensure that the defendant will never
have the ability to abuse or exploit another child, said U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Wilson. “Cases like this are especially heart-wrenching. I am thankful
for the work of the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service, the Federal Bureau of
Investigation and the United States Attorney’s Office to see to it the defendant
was brought to justice.”
“Our children undoubtedly represent our nation’s future,” said FBI Oklahoma City Special Agent in Charge Ed Gray. “This sentence provides a clear
depiction of what will continue to happen to perpetrators who defile our nation’s innocent. As protectors of the American people, the FBI will continue
its unwavering fight against those who try to thwart our nation’s bright future
in any capacity.” BILLY

AROUND THE STATE
SUSPECTS SENTENCED IN OSBI OIL FIELD
THEFT IN ALFALFA COUNTY
Two suspects in an Oklahoma State Bureau
of Investigation (OSBI) oil field theft investigation
have received a combined sentence of 57 years
in prison.
The OSBI was requested by the Alfalfa County
Sheriff’s Office to assist with the investigation on
July 21, 2021. Two days before, the sheriff’s office had arrested 50-year-old Neal Scrimsher and
34-year-old Harold Willson after receiving a tip
that the pair was driving around the county with a
trailer full of oil field equipment and copper wire.
Because of ongoing oil field thefts in Alfalfa and
Grant counties, the sheriff requested assistance
from the OSBI’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
In January of 2022, Scrimsher plead no contest to one charge of Knowingly Concealing
Stolen Property. In March he received a 27-year
sentence to be served in the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Willson plead guilty to one
charge of Knowingly Concealing Stolen Property in March 2022 and received a sentence of 30
years to be served in the Oklahoma Department
of Corrections.

TRUST YOUR INSTINCT
On March 29, at 5 p.m., Officer Ragan, while
working criminal interdiction, conducted a traffic
stop on a motor vehicle for a speed infraction on
Interstate 40, mm 327 East Bound. The vehicle was
occupied by four male individuals.
Upon speaking with the driver, and while issuing a
warning for the traffic infraction inside his patrol car,
Officer Ragan determined reasonable suspicion to
believe criminal activity was afoot.
In the initial contact with the vehicle, a distinct
odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle, to
which the driver admitted to having personal use
marijuana inside the vehicle.
At this time, probable cause was established and
a vehicle search was conducted. During the search,
Officer Ragan located a firearm inside a bag in the
rear cargo area of the SUV. Also, in the same area
in a separate bag, Officer Ragan located a large
quantity of blue in color pills that in his training and
experience to be “M-30” Fentanyl pills. The driver of
the vehicle fled on foot from the stop and the other
occupants were placed into custody.
A weight of the pills was conducted and yielded
an approximate weight of 8.5 pounds with a guesstimated count of over 30,000 “M-30” pills.
Fentanyl has become a major problem not only locally but for the entire
nation! There is no doubt countless lives were saved because of this stop!
Amazing Job!

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

A Haskell man is facing felony charges after he
allegedly raped a girl under the age of 14.
Jeremiah Clay Ford, 25, was charged April 4
with rape first degree (under 14) in Muskogee
County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on
March 4, the child’s mother reported that she had
a talk with her daughter and the daughter revealed
to her that her uncle, Ford, had touched her inappropriately. The mother relayed what the daughter
had told her and the horrible things Ford had done
to the girl. She also said that Ford told the girl that
if she told anyone what had happened, the family
would hate her and not believe her, and that he
would get in trouble.
Ford was taken into custody and booked into the Muskogee County Jail.
Bond was set at $25,000 and his preliminary hearing is set for April 22.

MAY IS NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH
AWARENESS MONTH
Mental health is a hot topic.
This is good news. It means the
stigma for mental health issues is
slowly going away. Mental health
issues are finally getting the attention they deserve. Healthcare
workers and individuals feel they
can discuss mental health more
openly. However, that doesn’t
mean there isn’t still work to do,
however.
As a whole, we often misunderstand mental health because it is hard to
define. Additionally, mental health includes several areas. These areas involve
one’s social, emotional, and psychological well-being. Mental health affects
thoughts, feelings, and actions. When one has positive mental health, they
are better equipped to handle stress, be more productive, and realize their
full potential.
While we focus on our physical wellbeing, the food we eat, exercise, and
getting regular check-ups for vision and dental care, we often forget to take
stock of our emotional and spiritual needs. Everyday demands take their toll.
HOW TO OBSERVE #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth
Share the message. Taking care of our mental health is as normal as eating
healthy, exercising, or even saving for the future. Share your story to help others understand that achieving mental health is a daily process.
