A retired Marine who fought in WW 3 was arrested November 8 after he damaged a door with a
hammer because a judge told him to.
The man who fought in a war no one knows about,
41-year-old Joseph Clyde Cady, said he didn’t want
to violate his parole.
According to the affidavit, a Garvin County deputy
was dispatched to a residence on Highway 7 in Davis shortly after 1 p.m. The victim said a man with a
hammer was damaging his property and threatening his life.
Elmore City officers arrived at the scene first, and
they detained the suspect until the deputy could arrive. Cady was combative with officers and he had a fixed blade knife on his person.
The deputy asked Cady what was going on. Cady said he was dropped off at the
residence by a judge. He said the judge told him to take a hammer and beat the
door knob off of the residence.
Cady told the deputy he was a retired Marine who fought in World War 3. He
said that he had to do what the judge told him, or it would be a parole violation.
He also said he was a police officer.
The deputy asked him if he had been drinking or if he took any illegal drugs.
Cady said no.
The knob on the front door of the residence was damaged, and the door frame
was busted. It was obvious Cady had gone after it with the hammer. A boat in the
front yard had a hole in it and the windshield of a vehicle in the driveway was
damaged – apparently Cady went after those too.
The victim told police that Cady came after him with the hammer, threatening to hurt him. The man said he tried to leave, but Cady told him he couldn’t go
anywhere.
Cady was arrested for assault. During the arrest, he said when he got out of jail,
he was going to come back and burn the victim’s house down.
Cady is being charged with burglary in the second degree and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His bond was set at $40,000, and he is scheduled
to appear in court on December 18, 2015.

– that’s one person every 51 minutes. That makes it everyone's problem.
It seems that many people were doing their part to put a stop to
this completely preventable epidemic. Alcohol-related traffic fatalities reached a low point in the late 1990s. Research also indicates
that 62% of Americans exposed to the now-iconic Friends Don't Let
Friends Drive Drunk campaign have personally intervened to stop
someone from driving drunk, no doubt saving countless lives.
However, since the late 90's, alcohol-related driving deaths have
been steadily increasing. It seems that though the campaign was
very successful, it did not change the behavior of many potential impaired drivers. Many thought the messages to be targeted at overtly
drunk drivers, and not them. When decision time came, they would
consider themselves merely "buzzed" and get behind the wheel.
The new PSAs created to address this gap were released in December 2005 with the objective to inspire dialogue and recognition of the
dangers of "buzzed" driving and subsequently, to motivate people
to stop driving buzzed. The next installment expands on this message, equating buzzed driving and drunk driving and demonstrating
the devastating consequences that can occur as a result of buzzed
driving. The overall campaign hopes to educate people that consuming even a few drinks can impair driving and that Buzzed Driving is
Drunk Driving.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Today, I’m going to discuss who has the
biggest impact on our new drivers that hit the
road each and every day. First, the Oklahoma
Driver’s Education classes and schools across
the state are second to none, and do a fantastic
job of educating our young drivers on the law, and proper way to safely operate a
motor vehicle. I would like to point to some other folks, who I believe have a far
greater impact on how our youngsters approach driving, and address them, and
that is the adults who these young drivers look up to: the parents, older siblings,
and extended family.
If you fit in this category, please pay attention. I believe that our kids learn their
driving behavior not from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, other law enforcement,
or driver’s education instructor, but from you, the parents and family. I know I
learned that way! Let me give you some examples.
You are a dad, and for whatever reason, when you are driving in town, or on a
county road, you just don’t buckle up. Maybe its because you don’t drive fast in
these areas, or have a farm tag and just don’t have to; however, you do buckle up
when you get on highways or go on long drives. The message you are sending is
that when you are in the vehicle there are certain times that it is ok not to wear
your seat belt. If dad doesn’t have to do it, I don’t either! In fact, at least 50% of
all accidents happen on county roads, and you are more likely to be in an accident
within 10 miles of your residence than otherwise. So the real message you are
sending is, don’t buckle up during the times that you are most likely to need it!
Next, mom gets off work at 5:00, and one of the kids has a ball game in another
town at 5:30. She can get there if she speeds. After all, it is important to get to
those activities, and it won’t hurt to push the speed just a little. The message you
send to your kids is, its ok to speed, as long as you can justify it! The facts are that
unsafe speeds kill more young people 16 to 25 than any other single thing! The
message here needs to be that its ok to slow down and show up a few minutes
late.....it is much better than the alternative, which is never showing up at all
because you’ve been involved in an accident.
Please remember, when you are driving, you are setting the example
for someone....and they are watching you all the time. What message are
you sending? I hope it’s the one that says, I’ll lead by example because I
love you, and want to do my part to keep you safe! Thanks for reading,

George William Russell, 38, of
Leon, a/k/a “Willie”, was indicted
November 3 for Distribution Of
Methamphetamine.
Russell is the son of the Love County Sheriff Joe Russell.
The Indictment alleges that on
or about May 29, 2015, Russell, did
knowingly and intentionally distribute a mixture or substance containing
a detectable amount of Methamphetamine, a Schedule II Controlled Substance.
The charge arose from an investigation by the Ardmore Police Department, the Carter County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau
of Investigation.
The charge is punishable by not more than 20 years imprisonment,
up to a $1,000,000 fine or both.

A Wellston couple is wanted for larceny after they allegedly stole
a laptop from Walmart on November 8.
According to the police report, a Madill officer was dispatched to
Walmart at approximately 10:55 p.m. An employee said a man entered the store and started placing items in a shopping cart. At one
point, the man held a shirt up in front of him like he was trying to
block something. It looked like the man stuffed something down the
front of his pants.
When the employee went to confront the suspect, the man jumped
into a car and yelled at the female driver to “get out of here.”
The employee found an empty box that had contained a laptop
shortly after the man’s escape.
Police stopped the vehicle at Highway 199 just east of S. 10th
Street. An officer asked a male passenger to exit the vehicle. He asked the man, 30-year-old
Justin Lee Phillips, what he was doing at Walmart.
Phillips said he went to the store to buy some stuff, but he forgot his wallet so he left. The
officer asked if there were any items from the store in his vehicle.
Phillips said he had receipts for the stuff in his car.
Officers searched the vehicle, but they couldn’t find any of the stolen items. An officer did,
however, find three altered ID cards in Phillips’s possession. Phillips said his friend did that
while “playing around.”
The driver of the vehicle and wife of the suspect was identified as 32-year-old Shanna Lee
Phillips.
Since there wasn’t any evidence linking the couple to the theft, they were released from the
scene.
The officer told the couple that he was going to travel the route they took when they left
the store and look for any stolen merchandise. Sure enough, police found a laptop and some
security wires on the ground next to the stop sign at Whiskey Creek Road and Highway 199.
The store employee later showed an officer pictures from a security camera of Justin Phillips carrying the laptop box.
A warrant was issued for their arrest.
Justin Phillips is being charged with petit larceny and make/sell/display altered identification card. His bond was set at $5,000.
Shanna Phillips is being charged with petit larceny. Her bond was set at $3,500.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money or
favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting
offi cer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.

Chad Strang (Cleveland Co.)
needs your assistance with
an illegally killed doe at Lake
Thunderbird State Park.
Warden Strang received a
call from Oklahoma State Parks
Rangers about a deer that had
been shot in the Upper Sandy
campgrounds, at the park on
November 7. Warden Strang
determined the deer had been shot, likely with bow and arrow, sometime in the
morning and expired on a well used hiking trail.
Two young boys discovered the kill and notified park rangers.
Anyone with information about this case can contact Warden Strang at (405)-
323-7863 or Operation Game Thief at 1-800-522-8039. Callers can remain anonymous and may receive a reward, up to $500, for information leading to an arrest
and conviction.
