Lawton Man Sentenced to More Than
32 Years for Violent Crimes
On January 5, 2018, Jackie Duncan,
30, of Lawton, was sentenced to 386
months in federal prison for his role in a
robbery conspiracy, announced Mark A.
Yancey, United States Attorney for the
Western District of Oklahoma.
A superseding indictment alleged that
Duncan agreed with other members of
the 107 Hoover Crips gang in Lawton to
commit armed robbery. It also charged
him with various gun and drug offenses.
Among other things, the superseding
indictment alleged that Duncan was involved in displaying a pistol after breaking
into an apartment, where another member of the gang beat a resident in the head with a metal pipe.
A federal jury found Duncan guilty of one count of conspiracy to
interfere with commerce by robbery, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, two counts of interference with commerce by
robbery, and two counts of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a
crime of violence. The jury found him not guilty of one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and one
count of possessing and brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a drug
trafficking crime.
On January 5, 2018, United States District Court Judge Vicki MilesLaGrange sentenced Duncan to 386 months in federal prison, to be
followed by five years of supervised release.

Live life with passion
By Christian Ryan
Life is a never-ending battle. We win
some – we lose some. What defines
“winning”, or as we call it, “success”,
may change from person to person.
I define success by living with passion. In my life, passion has helped me
drive past conflicted times that should
have held me back and hindered my
success. Coming from a broken home
with no father and eventually no mother
(for a period of time), I could have fallen
to drugs or crime, but I had a burning
passion to make something positive of
my life.
My first actions towards my passion started with fitness. I started
lifting weights the summer before going into the 7th grade. Then,
Coach [Jay] Moore convinced me to give football a chance. That
was the start of my career as an athlete.
Since then I’ve been successful in football and powerlifting. I ran
track but more for team support. It’s not exactly one of my strongest
talents.
In powerlifting I achieved junior state placer and state champion
for 8th and 9th grade. Now, I’m a varsity state placer and state
champion. I’m going into the second semester of my senior year
and I’m planning to become two-time state champion, if it’s in
God’s plan for me.
I live my life passionately. I choose not to be normal. It is a choice
that requires strong self-discipline. I want to change the world for
the better. I don’t want just breathe, work, and die. I want to see the
world and change people’s lives.
This keeps me motivated to get through the hard times because
I know that seasons change and there is a light at the end of every
tunnel. I believe passion is essential for a happy human life.
Without God I would be nothing. Ever since I gave my life to Him
and surrendered, He has used my passion for His will. I want to start
a youth ministry and help teens that are in my shoes - going through
High School confused and afraid and show them there is so much
more to life than what appears to be in front of them.
Passion can be positive or negative. Without the right direction
passion can take you down the wrong path. Healthy passion is
something that helps us grow and can help shape us into great
leaders. Hitler was a passionate man, but he was passionate for the
wrong reasons and murdered almost the entire Jewish population.
Obviously, this is an example of misdirected passion.
Be careful that your passions are productive and positive. As you
pursue your dreams make sure what you are doing will change others lives and maybe even the world for the better.
About the author:
Christian Ryan is a senior at Cushing High School. He moved to Cushing from North Carolina when he was seven years old. Shortly thereafter,
his mother was diagnosed with cancer and became involved in drugs and
later spent time in jail. He then went to live with relatives. To escape his
problems, Christian threw himself into weight-lifting and other sports, but
lifting was his passion. He contributes his success to Coach Jay Moore
and several family members and friends. Christian placed third in the state
power-lifting competition when he was in 8th grade. In 9th grade, he won
junior state champion. In 10th grade varsity, he placed third in the state;
the first and second place winners were seniors. In 2016, his junior year,
he won the state power-lifting championship. During that time, he dabbled
in drugs to drown out his problems, but quickly realized that was not the
way he wanted to live his life. In 2017, he turned his life over to God after
contemplating suicide. From that moment on, he wanted to make a difference. After high school, Christian plans to possibly attend ORU in the fall
semester. He wants to become a youth pastor to help kids like himself that
have gone through troubled times.

OTHER IDEAS
A 43-year-old Duncan man was locked up
at the Stephens County Jail after he allegedly
led police on a pursuit through town on January 24.
The chase ended with a bang, and Samuel
Dewayne Mitchell Jr. tried to get away on foot
– but he didn’t.
According to the police report, a Duncan
police officer was on patrol when he saw a
white car traveling eastbound at US 81 and
Elder shortly after 8 a.m. The vehicle’s windshield had lots of cracks directly in front of
the driver, so the officer attempted to stop the
car.
The driver, later identified as Mitchell, had
other ideas.
Mitchell quickly accelerated and turned southbound onto 14th Street. The
officer pursued the driver with sirens blaring and lights flashing. Mitchell just
continued going, running multiple stop signs and eventually crashing into a
curb near 14th and Beech.
The chase wasn’t over yet, though. Mitchell jumped out of the car and took
off running. An officer soon found him hiding behind a residence in the 400
block of N. 13th Street.
Mitchell was placed under arrest and cleared for any injuries sustained from
the crash before being transported to jail.
Officers were later advised that the vehicle Mitchell had been driving before
he was arrested had previously been reported stolen.
Mitchell is being charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, eluding police
officer and driving with license suspended. His bond was set at $10,000, and
he is scheduled to appear in court on March 21, 2018.

FEBRUARY IS Teen Dati ng Violence
Awareness Month
Learn About Teen Dating Violence
Every year, approximately 1.5 million high
school students nationwide experience physical
abuse from a dating partner. It is also known that
3 in 4 parents have never talked to their children
about domestic violence. In light of these alarming facts, every year during the month of February advocates join efforts to
raise awareness about dating violence, highlight promising practices, and encourage communities to get involved.
There are many resources available to provide information and support to
victims and assist service providers and communities to decrease the prevalence of dating violence among young people. Anyone can make this happen
by raising awareness about the issue, saying something about abuse when
you see it and organizing your community to make a difference. Take Action!
Teen dating violence (TDV) is defined as a pattern of abuse or threat of
abuse against teenaged dating partners, occuring in different forms, including verbal, emotional, physical, sexual and digital. TDV occurs across diverse
groups and cultures.
Although the dynamics of TDV are similar to adult domestic violence, the
forms and experience of TDV, as well as the challenges in seeking and providing services, make the problem of TDV unique.
The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence and VAWnet have
developed an Online Special Collection: Preventing and Responding to Teen
Dating Violence. Recently updated, this Special Collection emphasizes collaborative and multilevel approaches to the prevention of and response to teen
dating violence. This year’s updates include additional resources for teachers
and school-based professionals and a new section to support the efforts of
pregnancy prevention advocates and adolescent sexual health practitioners
in addressing adolescent relationship abuse.

How can people find a treatment
center they can afford?
If they have health insurance, it may
cover substance abuse treatment services. Many insurance plans cover inpatient
stays. When setting up appointments
with treatment centers, you can ask about
payment options and what insurance
plans they take. They can also advise you
on potential low-cost options.
To find treatment—and to learn about payment options—try the Behavioral
Health Treatment Services Locator provided by the Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration. This free tool offers payment information for each
of the treatment services listed, including information on sliding fee scales and
payment assistance. Its “Frequently Asked Questions” section addresses cost of
treatment.
You can also call the treatment helpline at 1-800-662-HELP (1-800-662-4357)
or 1-800-487-4889 (TTY) to ask about treatment centers that offer low- or nocost treatment. You can also contact your state substance abuse agency—many
states will help pay for substance abuse treatment.
Note that the new Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act ensures that
co-pays, deductibles, and visit limits are generally not more restrictive for mental
health and substance abuse disorder benefits than they are for medical and surgical benefits. The Affordable Care Act builds on this law and requires coverage
of mental health and substance use disorder services as one of ten essential
health benefits categories. Under the essential health benefits rule, individual and
small group health plans are required to comply with these parity regulations. For
more information on the Affordable Care Act you can call 1-800-318-2596 or go
to https://www.healthcare.gov/ .
When you research payment options, be sure you are speaking to people familiar with the new rules (old websites and pamphlets will not necessarily be accurate).
A note on health insurance for veterans: If the person needing treatment is a
veteran or is covered by health benefits for veterans, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) can help you find VA services near you. Visit the VA Substance

ag hunter comments on judge balkman’s
trial schedule for state opiod lawsuit
Oklahoma is first state in
nation to have a trial scheduled in opioid litigation
Attorney General Mike Hunter
today commended Cleveland
County District Judge Thad
Balkman for granting the state’s
requested May 2019 trial date for
its lawsuit against opioid manufacturers for their role in creating
the opioid epidemic.
Oklahoma is the first state in the nation to have a trial date set
among the multitude of states across the country suing drug manufacturers.
Attorney General Hunter said the 2019 trial date will allow the
state sufficient time to gather evidence and prove its case.
“We appreciate the urgency Judge Balkman saw in getting the
case to trial,” Attorney General Hunter said. “Rather than dragging
it out longer, which is what the companies had requested, Oklahomans who have suffered immeasurably from the years of fraudulent
marketing campaigns will see this case resolved sooner rather than
later.
“The state’s case is solid and our team is prepared to hold these
companies accountable for their role in the deadliest drug epidemic
the state and nation have ever seen.”
Attorney General Hunter filed the lawsuit against the nation’s leading opioid manufacturers in June 2017, claiming the effects of deceptive marketing campaigns over the last decade have fueled the
state’s opioid epidemic.
Manufacturers responded to the lawsuit with motions to dismiss,
which Judge Balkman ruled against last December, allowing discovery in the case to begin.
In the last three years, nearly 3,000 Oklahomans have died from
overdose deaths and more than 1,300 newborns have tested positive for substance exposure. In 2016 Oklahoma ranked first in the
number of milligrams of opioids distributed per adult, and in the 14
counties surrounding Tulsa, there were enough opioids for every
man, woman and child to have 90 pills. To Be A PerfecT PArenT.
There are thousands of kids in foster care who will take you just the way you are.

Poor Chastity Eugina Hopson was so worried about her possibly-tainted meth that
she actually contacted the police about it. Officers at the Granite Shoals Police Department in Texas were trying to catch the county’s dumbest drug users when they posted
a fake Facebook story about Ebola-tainted meth. The post said, “If you have recently
purchased meth or heroin in Central Texas, please take it to the local police or sheriff
department so it can be screened with a special device. DO NOT use it until it has been
properly checked for possible Ebola contamination!””
Hopson, 29, saw the post and was understandably afraid that her meth could be...
wait for it... dangerous. She responded to the department’s post on Facebook, and
they gladly took her sample in for “testing.” Hobson was charged with possession of
less than one gram of a controlled substance.
18 year old Ruben Zarate wanted to rob a muffler shop in Chicago and demanded
money. Unfortunately it was mostly in the safe. Zarate decided that he would try again
later. To save himself some time, he left his cell phone number with the store employees. That way, they could call him when the manager returned.
Demetrius Robinson, 28, wanted to rob a Golden Pantry store late one night, but he
needed to pass the time as naturally as possible until he and the clerk were alone, so
he decided to fill out a job application. Not a bad idea, except he left his real name on
the application, along with his uncle’s phone number. After he robbed the store, it didn’t
take long for police to track him down. He didn’t get the job.
Before breaking into an apartment, Joey Miller and Matthew McNelly decided to put
on disguises. And by disguises we mean they covered their faces in permanent marker.
The thing about permanent marker is that... well it’s permanent.
After the burglary, the pair was pulled over by police and immediately recognized
because of their hair. Just kidding, it was their faces covered in permanent marker that
set them apart from the crowd.
A Kentucky woman was arrested after authorities caught her trying to shoplift merchandise while her son took part in a “Shop with a Cop” event. She was charged with
theft of less than $500 and not understanding irony.
Eoise Reaves stretched the limits of “to serve and protect” when she approached
a policeman and asked him to help her get her money back for the poor-quality crack
cocaine she’d just purchased. She showed him the crack, which she had tucked away
in her mouth, and he placed her under arrest. How does one know when crack has
gone bad?
Things were looking up for Frank Singleton when he was released from jail. However,
when he realized that he didn’t have a ride home, he walked straight into the prison
parking lot and attempted to carjack a woman. He was foiled when he realized that
he couldn’t drive a car with a stick shift. As he was re-arrested - this time, for felony
carjacking - Singleton told police that he simply “didn’t feel like walking.” We’ve all been
there.
A West Palm Beach, FL man was arrested on a slew of charges, and was perhaps
a bit too honest on his arrest report. He listed his occupation as “drug dealer” and was
charged with being the most obvious criminal in the history of crime.
A police impersonator in Dumfries, VA tried to pull over an off-duty officer, when the
real cop informed the fake cop that he was a real cop (this is getting confusing) the fake
cop ran away but was quickly apprehended and hauled off to a very real prison.
Charles Ray Fuller, a Texas dumb dumb, tried to cash a bogus check for $360 BILLION. To top it off, the check wasn’t even made out to him. He was arrested on forgery
charges and sentenced to a million billion years in prison.
Two men arrested in Houston were accused of stealing an iPad and using it to take
selfies that they unknowingly uploaded to the owner’s iCloud account. The men appeared in the photos displaying money they were also accused of taking from the
victim. At least they didn’t have to listen to that new U2 album!
The dumbest policeman in the world, who was making some extra cash with drugs
and prostitution, was brought to justice after driving a $170,000 Ferrari to work. Osman
Iqbal, an officer based in Birmingham England, was jailed for seven years for running
a brothel.

A minor inconvenience
A 19-year-old Anadarko man was charged
with two counts of burglary after he allegedly
admitted to breaking into a residence and
stealing a firearm on January 14.
According to the affidavit, an Anadarko City
officer spoke to the teen on January 17 about
some recent burglaries.
For a burglary at a residence in the 200
block of South Country Club, Andrew Pecina
told the officer he had been with some minors
who requested a ride to their grandmother’s
residence in the area. He called a friend for a
ride, and they transported the three teens to
the house. The trio entered the residence and
walked back out with a rifle. They started talking about shooting people, so Pecina said he told them to get out of the car.
The officer then asked the man about another burglary that had happened
at the home of one of the minors mentioned earlier. Pecina said he sometimes
stayed with the young teen, but he was adamant that he never took anything
from the residence.
For a burglary that occurred on January 14 at a residence in the 400 block
of W. Mississippi, Pecina admitted he was guilty. He told the officer he and
some minors walked up to the residence and went inside because the door
was unlocked. While exploring the home, Pecina found a shotgun. He said he
took it and hid it in an alleyway.
A minor threatened to kill him if he didn’t hand over the gun; Pecina said he
retrieved the firearm and gave it to his friend.
Pecina is being charged with burglary in the first degree and burglary in the
second degree.

Altus man arrested for
suspicion of murder
Altus man Gaylon Dorsey, 35, was
arrested for suspicion of first-degree
murder and other felony charges after
he allegedly shot and killed a man on
January 23.
According to reports, Altus officers
were dispatched to the 200 block of
South Jackson at approximately 1:48
p.m. to investigate a call about shots
being fired in the area.
When they arrived, they found the
victim, who had been shot in the chest.
The man was lying on the kitchen
floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A woman at the residence said she and the victim were getting ready to leave when the suspect knocked on the door.
When she opened it, he forced his way in and shot the victim.
The witness said the suspect then robbed them.
Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies, including
the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Kiowa County Sheriff’s Department and the Washita County Sheriff’s Department immediately began searching the area for a white car that belonged
to the victim.
They located the vehicle in Hobart. Officers chased after
the victim’s vehicle. The driver, later identified as Dorsey, led
officers on a high-speed chase through Kiowa and Washita
counties.
Around 5 p.m., Altus officers were notified that the abandoned and burned vehicle had been located in Kiowa County,
south of Cordell.
The search for the suspect was also over. Law enforcement found Dorsey approximately ¼ of a mile from the car. He
matched the witness’s description of the suspect.
Reports state investigators believe robbery was a motive in
the fatal shooting.
Dorsey is being charged with several felony counts, including robbery in the first degree, kidnapping, taking unlawful
possession of a vehicle and suspicion of first-degree murder.
His bond was set at $500,000, and he is scheduled to appear
in court on February 1, 2018.

Hammertime!
A woman in Arkansas was taken into custody
after police say she attacked a man with a hammer.
Little Rock television station KATV reports that
55-year-old Rebecca Ann Larch was being held at
the Pulaski County Jail Sunday (Dec. 17) on accusations of aggravated assault and second-degree
domestic battery. Jail records do not indicate if
she is represented by an attorney.
Police say Larch was arrested Friday (Dec. 15)
afternoon after she allegedly chased a man outside her residence and struck him twice with a hammer. Investigators say
the circumstances of the attack remain unclear, but Larch was reportedly
intoxicated when she was arrested.
Larch has a listed address in Mabelvale but police say she and the man
she attacked were roommates. The man’s name and the extent of his injuries were not immediately available.

Amateur criminal and professional dumb dumb Christopher Kron made every mistake possible in robbery history when he tried to rob a restaurant after it closed one
night. Not only did he trip the silent alarm, but when ADT called the restaurant after
being notified, Kron answered the phone and gave them his REAL NAME. He returned
to the restaurant the next day and was recognized by an employee who had seen the
surveillance video. Kron was arrested on the spot.
A man in Stockholm, Sweden was a bit upset when the 13-year-old girl he’d been
courting didn’t show up for an arranged sex meeting. When the teen stood him up, the
man found her home phone number and called her father to demand a refund. Obviously things didn’t end well.
Polish author Krystian Bala, might’ve gotten away with murder… if he hadn’t written
about it in his book. His 2003 novel Amok became a bestseller in Poland, but he paid
the price when police noticed that the details of a murder in the book eerily matched
those of an unsolved case.
The similarities led the police to investigate further, discovering connections between
Bala and the victim, including the fact that the victim was romantically involved with
Bala’s ex-wife. Whether or not he was inspired by the OJ Simpson “novel” based on a
similar subject is unknown. What is known that he received 25 years in prison.
Let it be known that you can now be arrested for ballin’ on a budget. William Anderson, 51, was arrested after attracting attention by applying for welfare while driving an
H2 Hummer. Thinking it an odd sight, the local sheriff ran the plates, and the vehicle
came up as stolen.
