A 37-year-old Lawton man was put in jail
after he claimed he shot a man in self-defense after an incident on June 23.
Reports state that the suspect, Raymond
Scott Edwards, was a convicted felon and
shouldn’t have had the gun in the first place.
The incident happened around 11 p.m.
Lawton officers were dispatched 700 block
of Southwest 6th Street to investigate reports
that a man had just been shot. Officers found
a man with a gunshot wound in his right
shoulder.
At first, the man was uncooperative and
wouldn’t tell officers any details about the
shooting. He refused to tell them where the
shooting happened or who pulled the trigger.
After being treated for his injuries at a local
hospital, the man told officers that he was walking down the street when a
man approached him and asked if he was in a gang. The man said he told
the suspect he wasn’t.
The suspect then pulled out a Springfield XDM .45-caliber handgun and
shot him. The victim said the shooter was wearing a mask, so he didn’t see
his face.
Around 12:15 a.m. on June 28, officers were advised that a blood trail led
to a home in the 600 block of SW McKinley. When officers knocked on the
door, Edwards answered. He admitted that the injured man had been at his
home on June 23, but he said he shot the man in self-defense.
While investigating the incident, officers learned the man had a felony failure
to appear warrant in Comanche County. He also had a prior conviction for
copper theft in June 2011.
The man was placed under arrest and transported to jail.
Edwards is being charged with possession of firearm after former felony
conviction. His bond was set at $5,000, and he is scheduled to appear in
court on August 24, 2020.

The Stephens County Sheriff’s Office requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) assist with an investigation into child
sexual abuse allegations. On June 15, the OSBI
began the investigation after the Sheriff’s Office
became aware that a relative was sexually abusing two underage girls. The suspect, 26-year-old
Steven Fortney, abused one girl between March
of 2011 and March of 2103 when she was 11 to
12-years-old. The other incident occurred in the
fall of 2019 and involved a girl that was 15-yearsold. The abuse took place at a residence on Old
Highway 7 in Duncan.
Fortney was arrested on June 18, 2020 and
booked into the Stephens County Jail on one count of Child Sexual Abuse
and one count of Lewd or Indecent Proposals to a Child Under 16. His
bond is set at $500,000.

An Altus man is sitting in jail on a $100,000 bond
after he assault an ex-girlfriend.
Deon Harrace Johnson, 36, was charged June
25 with assault and battery with a dangerous
weapon, in Jackson County District Court.
According to Altus Police, officers arrested a
man late June 11 after he struck a female in the
head with a baseball bat.
Police responded to the Applecreek Apartments
located at 1501 South Park Lane at around 11:00
p.m. and found the victim outside. She was later
transported to Jackson County Memorial Hospital
by EMS personnel.
Johnson was arrested at the scene. He is being held at the Jackson County Jail. The suspect and the victim were in a
previous dating relationship.

One of three suspects in the murder of 26-yearold Nathan Morrow plead guilty to one count of
Murder in the First Degree and one count of Robbery in the First Degree. Bre’lon Johnson,19, was
in Comanche County Court on June 18 to make
the plea. He was sentenced to life on the murder
charge and 15 years on the robbery charge.
On June 14, 2019, the Cache Police Department requested the Oklahoma State Bureau of
Investigation (OSBI) assist with a homicide investigation that occurred in the 500 block of NW Oak
within the City of Cache. At approximately 5 a.m.
that morning there was an altercation at an apartment complex that led to a shooting. Morrow’s
body was discovered outside of his residence with gunshot wounds. He
was pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to Johnson, Devon Cannon,19, and Shannon Freeman, 20,
are facing First Degree Murder charges in connection with Morrow’s death.
This investigation was a collaborative effort between the Cache Police
Department, Comanche Nation Police Department, Comanche County
Sheriff’s Office, the City of Cache, Oklahoma Office of the Chief Medical
Examiner and the OSBI.

Summer Warning Involving
Children and the Internet
Summer is here and many children are now home alone with
Internet-capable devices. The
Oklahoma Internet Crimes Against
Children Task Force wants parents
to exercise caution when allowing
children to use those devices.
In 2015, nearly 1,000 instances
of child sexual exploitation were reported to the OSBI through the National
Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Cybertipline, with each case
involving the use of computers, apps, chats, or social media.
Parents are urged to consider the following tips:
• Monitor your child’s usage of electronic devices such as
cell phones, tablets, readers, web cams, and laptops, as well as their usage of apps, games, and social media accounts. Do not allow this usage to be private. Instead, children should use these in open areas of the
home, such as the living room or kitchen.
• Although strangers are a threat, oftentimes children are
exploited by people they know. A large number of child pornography images are taken by the children themselves and sent to others they know or
think they know.
• Utilize device and software parental controls, as well as
safety features available for your children’s devices and apps. Parents are
also encouraged to communicate openly about online activity with their
children.
Young people should be able to identify risky behavior and know what to
do if something bad happens. It is important parents and guardians remain
approachable about this topic – kids should never fear a parent’s reaction more than they fear the misbehavior and/or consequences of people
online.
Ask your child:
• Where do you spend most of your time online?
• What is your favorite app or video game right now?
• Who do you game or communicate with the most?
• How do you decide who gets to follow or friend you?
• What do you share, post, download, upload, and view?
• Can I review your profile with you?
• What would you do if you encounter behavior or communication that makes you uncomfortable?
If your child is the victim of sexual misconduct online or you observe this
type of behavior, immediately report the incident to www.cybertipline.com,
the OSBI, or local law enforcement.

Two-Month Armed Bank Robbery Spree
Results in Three Life Sentences
Dwayne Edward Rasmussen, 56, of Oklahoma City,
has been sentenced to three life sentences for committing three bank robberies in Oklahoma City and Chickasha, announced U.S. Attorney Timothy J. Downing.
“We will continue to bring charges against perpetrators
of violence who violate federal law,” said U.S. Attorney
Downing. “Through this case and others like it, the Department of Justice is deterring future violence, protecting
those in our communities, and safeguarding the integrity
of financial systems in the United States. We hope that
today’s sentence serves as a reminder to folks to think
twice before robbing a federally insured bank.”
“Bank robbery is a serious violent crime which is aggressively investigated,” said Melissa Godbold, Special
Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Oklahoma City Field Office.
“The FBI and our law enforcement partners will continue to work closely together to
defend our communities against those who commit violent crime.”
On December 4, 2019, Rasmussen was charged by superseding indictment with
four counts of bank robbery. According to evidence at trial, Rasmussen robbed three
banks in the course of two months. Mark Drew Wilson, Rasmussen’s accomplice
for the robberies, testified to driving the getaway vehicle and the preparation for each
robbery. Evidence at trial also showed that Rasmussen wore gloves and disguised
his appearance to avoid apprehension during the commission of the robberies. Bank
surveillance video and identifications by bank employees also tied Rasmussen to each
bank robbery. In the robberies, Rasmussen used the same terminology demanding
“100s and 50s,” and threatened, “That’s not enough. Give me all your money.” During
the trial, evidence showed it appeared Rasmussen used a firearm during the commission of the bank robberies.
On January 23, 2020, after a six-day jury trial, the jury found Rasmussen guilty of
three counts of bank robbery. The jury acquitted him on one bank-robbery count.
U.S. District Judge Robin J. Cauthron sentenced Rasmussen to life in prison on
each of the three bank robbery counts. In announcing the sentence, Judge Cauthron
noted the impact on victims of Rasumssen’s conduct. Judge Cauthron also ordered
that those three sentences run concurrent to each other. Judge Cauthron also ordered Rasmussen to pay $37,784.00 in restitution, joint and several with the restitution imposed against Mark Drew Wilson, the getaway driver. On February 26, 2020,
Wilson was sentenced to 30 months in prison for conspiracy to commit bank robbery.
