With temperatures
topping 90 degrees
in Fort Worth, Texas,
residents without air
conditioning certainly
had a lot to complain
about, especially
95-year-old Julius
Hatley.
But Hatley made
the best of his situation, sitting on his
porch in the shade to
keep cool. He even continued his yard work, despite the unbearable heat.
But the 95-year-old's luck took a turn. Drenched in sweat, the man called
the Fort Worth Police Department to report his broken air conditioner.
"This wasn't a regular 911 call," Fort Worth Officer William Margolis told
CBS News. "It was what you'd label 'low priority' because we're not AC
techs."
After responding to a few other calls first, Margolis and his partner, Christopher Weir, made their way to Hatley's home, where they discovered both
his central A/C and window unit were broken.
"When we got there around 8:30 a.m. his house was 85 to 90 degrees
already," Margolis said.
After talking over the situation with his partner, Margolis promised the
man he'd find a solution.
Margolis couldn't shake the image of the elderly man sitting in his home
in the sweltering heat, so he decided to make a pit stop at Home Depot
and Weir agreed.
The officers asked employees for help finding a good A/C unit, explaining Hatley's situation in the process. The Home Depot workers were so
touched by the officers' kind gesture, they offered to pitch in their own
money, too.
"While there, Home Depot managers and employees decided to contribute $150 of their own money to help with the cause," Weir's wife, Jennifer, wrote on Facebook. "This is what being an officer is about.”
Weir, along with another co-worker, Officer Steven Rebrovich, helped
Margolis install the A/C unit inside Hatley's home later that day. And Hatley
couldn't have been happier -- he even posed for a few pictures with the
officers afterward.
"He was actually really excited," Margolis recalled. "He said he knew if he
needed help to call 911 and we actually were able to help him, so he was
really excited about it."
"I appreciate that," Hatley told the officers as they finished installing the
unit.
The goodwill doesn't stop there.
"Since the story was [first shared], we have all worked on getting his
central air replaced and a company came forward to do so, completely for
free." Jennifer Weir told CBS News. "We are also currently working on getting his windows replaced, his house repainted and groceries every week."
Margolis said he plans to make a point of checking in on Hatley from time
to time.
"He's 95 years old and he's a World War II veteran," Margolis said. "He's
a hero. In our eyes he's our hero."

BREAKING AND ENTERING
Michael Jay Perschbacher, 56, of Sulphur, was
arrested June 15 in Garfield County on a warrant
for Larceny of Domestic Animals. The charges and
subsequent arrest are the result of an investigation
conducted by Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers (TSCRA) Special Ranger Brett Wellden.
In late November 2016, Wellden received a call
from Northwest Stockyards in reference to a subject purchasing sheep, but failing to provide payment. The suspect was identified as Perschbacher,
who on Sept. 12, 2016, purchased 48 head of
mixed sheep worth more than $7,000. He loaded
the sheep on his trailer, and left without paying. The victim, Northwest
Stockyards, attempted to contact Perschbacher numerous times without
success before turning over the case to TSCRA’s Special Rangers.
Special Ranger Wellden also attempted to contact Perschbacher on
multiple occasions. In one instance the suspect answered his phone, but
hurriedly left the conversation after Wellden explained the reason for the
call. Unable to reach the suspect and remedy the situation, Wellden filed
criminal charges and an arrest warrant was issued by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. Perschbacher was subsequently arrested by Garfield
County Sheriff’s Deputies. He now stands accused of violating Oklahoma
State Statute 21 O.S. 1541, Obtaining by Trick/Deception, for leaving the
auction market without paying.
“It is important to remain vigilant, as livestock theft can occur by many
different means; it is not always someone sneaking onto your property in
the middle night,” said Special Ranger Wellden. “I would like to thank the
Garfield County District Attorney’s Office for their attention to this case, and
dedication to ensuring livestock thefts in their jurisdiction are prosecuted to
fullest extent possible.”
Perschbacher was released in $5000 bond and he was ordered back to
court July 17.

Three people were taken into custody on
drug and child neglect charges June 27 after
an observant Woods County deputy spotted
the driver of the vehicle not wearing his seatbelt.
Dillon Von Nethercutt, 25, of Waynoka, and
Keary Eugene Prophet, 42, of Alva, were
charged with felony possession of controlled
dangerous substance and child neglect.
Abbee Schoolfield, 21, of Alva, was
charged with misdemeanor possession of
CDS and felony child neglect.
According to reports, a deputy had just
finished serving a civil process and noticed
the driver of a vehicle without his seatbelt on.
He pulled the driver over and saw two others
and a toddler in the vehicle, also.
As the deputy was speaking to the driver,
identified as Nethercutt, he could smell the
distinct odor of marijuana coming from inside
the vehicle. He asked Nethercutt to step out
of the vehicle and get in his patrol unit. Inside
the patrol unit, Nethercutt allegedly admitted
he had just smoked marijuana less than 20
minutes earlier.
When asked, Schoolfield allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana, also.
Prophet told the deputy, “I am invoking
every one of my constitutional rights.” The
deputy searched Prophet and found a metal
“one-hitter” with residue in it and a prescription bottle with marijuana inside.
The deputy searched the vehicle and found
more marijuana on the floorboard directly below where the toddler was seated. He observed the child was properly retrained in the
carseat, but was not buckled to the vehicle seat.
Nethercutt, Schoolfield, and Prophet are scheduled to make their
next court appearance on August 8.

Jailbirds.rocks is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the
huge social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

K9 Chuy will receive a bullet and
stab protective vest thanks to a
charitable donation from nonprofit organization Vested Interest
in K9s, Inc.
K9 Chuy’s vest is sponsored
by the Staten Island Companion
Dog Training Club, Inc. of Staten
Island, NY and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Gifted
by S.I. Companion Dog Training
Club, Inc.”. Delivery is expected
within eight to ten weeks.
Chuy is a five year old Danish
Labrador, who has been paired
with his handler, K9 Officer Alan
Fletcher, since April 6 2015,
when he joined the ranks of the
Woodward Police Department.
Since the pair have been working together, they have assisted agencies
such as the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics, and
various local municipal and county Law Enforcement agencies. Chuy and
his handler have played a pivotal role in getting several pounds of illegal
narcotics, paraphernalia, and illegal firearms off the streets.
Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. is a 501c (3) charity located in East Taunton,
MA whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other
assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout
the United States. The non-profit was established in 2009 to assist law enforcement agencies with this potentially lifesaving body armor for their fourlegged K9 officers. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. provided
over 2,400 protective vests, in 50 states, through private and corporate
donations, at a cost of over 2.1 million dollars.
The program is open to dogs actively employed in the U.S. with law enforcement or related agencies who are certified and at least 20 months of
age. New K9 graduates, as well as K9s with expired vests, are eligible to
participate.
The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K9 is
$1,050. Each vest has a value between $1,795 – $2,234 and a five-year
warranty, and an average weight of 4-5 lbs. There is an estimated 30,000
law enforcement K9s throughout the United States. For more information
or to learn about volunteer opportunities, please call 508-824-6978. Vested
Interest in K9s, Inc. provides information, lists events, and accepts tax-deductible donations of any denomination at www.vik9s.org or mailed to P.O.

It would be hard to make up a story as
good as this one... Oklahoma Game Warden Brandon Fulton (Tulsa Co.) came home
from grocery shopping to find a car parked
in his driveway. On closer inspection the
Game Warden found two men fishing in the
pond in front of his house. Fulton asked the
two young men if they had permission to
fish in the pond and if they had fishing licenses. They did not and both men were
fishing without licenses. When Warden Fulton asked them "didn't you see the Game
Warden truck parked in the driveway?"
They simply replied, "sometimes big bass
are worth it". Both men were offered temporary licenses which they promptly purchased.

First, try to answer the
questions below as honestly as possible. If the
person is willing, you can
include him or her in the
discussion. (*"Drugs" is
used here to refer to illicit
drugs, prescription drugs,
or alcohol.)
1. Does the person take the drug in larger amounts or for longer than
intended?
2. Do they want to cut down or stop using the drug but can’t?
3. Do they spend a lot of time getting, using, or recovering from the drug?
4. Do they have cravings and urges to use the drug?
5. Are they unable to manage responsibilities at work, home, or school because of drug use?
6. Do they continue to use a drug, even when it causes problems in relationships?
7. Do they give up important social, recreational, or work-related activities
because of drug use?
8. Do they use drugs again and again, even when it puts them in danger?
9. Do they continue to use, even while knowing that a physical or mental
problem could have been caused or made worse by the drug?
10. Do they take more of the drug to get the wanted effect?
11. Have they developed withdrawal symptoms, which can be relieved by
taking more of the drug? (Some withdrawal symptoms can be obvious, but
others can be more subtle—like irritability or nervousness.)
If the answer to some or all of these questions is yes, your friend or loved
one might have a substance abuse problem. In the most severe cases, it is
called an addiction. It can happen to people from all backgrounds, rich or
poor, and it can happen at any age.
Through scientific research, we now know more than ever about how drugs
work in the brain, and we also know that drug addiction can be successfully
treated to help people stop abusing drugs and lead productive lives.
If you think your adult friend or loved might be addicted, you cannot fix the
problem by yourself, but there are some steps you can take. If the person is
willing to explore the issue, refer him or her to this webpage: What to Do If
You Have a Problem with Drugs: For Adults. Offer to walk the person through
the information and to help access the resources.

The Elizabeth City Police Department held their annual anti-crime fundraiser, oblivious to the fact that a criminal was in their midst. According to Time, this North Carolina
event included a doughnut eating contest, in which a passerby defeated each cop by
consuming eight doughnuts in under two minutes. His victory was short-lived, however, as the police arrived at his house one day later due to his earlier participation in
two cases of breaking and entering. I can only imagine their satisfaction, imprisoning
the one man able to perform standard police work better than they are able.
This North Carolina couple has proved junk food can be used as a weapon, and not
just against your own figure. According to Atlanta Journal Constitution, police were
called by the neighbors around 1:30 am. They noted it as a domestic violence call,
and arrived at the couple’s apartment only to observe the pair assaulting each other
by throwing pizza rolls. They were charged with simple assault and jailed; clearly their
relationship appears warm on the outside but is ice cold on the inside.
Border protection arrested a woman in Arizona after she attempted to carry a bag
full of burritos into the US entrance. According to HP, drug dogs sniffed around to
discover each burrito was nothing but tortillas wrapped around bags of meth. The
suspect admitted she was being paid $500 to smuggle meth into the country.
A Michigan couple got into an argument that ended in a murder and an attempted
suicide. How did the cops decipher this? According to Huffington Post, the African
grey parrot had been repeating the phrase “don’t f—ing shoot!”, clearly traumatized.
The victim’s in-laws insist the bird be used as evidence in court, even though the wife
has not yet been charged. Most likely, the cops will wing it.
STUPID CRIMINALS We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Meno man Robert Joseph White, 26, allegedly shot at a man on June 23, shortly after he
was let go from his job for poor performance.
According to the affidavit, a Major County
deputy was dispatched to a wrecker service
in Enid on June 26 to investigate a shooting
that had occurred on June 23. A man said
he was sent to the 300 block of S. Meno Avenue to collect a company truck from someone who had been fired from his job. When
he arrived, he found the vehicle and started
to hook onto the truck.
As he was working, a man who appeared
to be highly intoxicated walked outside and
pointed a gun at him. He said the man told
him to “get the f--- up.”
The victim walked toward his truck, but the man with the gun followed
him. The suspect then placed the gun to the victim’s chest and said, “I’m
going to kill you.”
The suspect then took a few steps back and fired a round to the right of
the victim. He then again pointed the gun directly at the victim.
The victim said he feared for his life, so he jumped into his truck and
immediately left the scene.
The deputy spoke to the suspect’s former supervisor, who had hired
the towing company to pick up the truck. He identified the suspect as
White. He said he had trouble with White’s performance at work, so he
let him go.
White also allegedly called him and another employee and threatened
both of them after he was fired. The man also told the officer another employee went to check on White’s welfare. The entire time he was standing
at the door, he said White was pointing an AK-47 at his head through the
window.
White is being charged with shooting with intent to kill. His bond was
set at $250,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on July 13, 2017.
