An Enid man was arrested after a Walmart
robbery went awry Feb. 21.
Enid police officer Kenyon Hughes was dispatched to Walmart just before 10 p.m. that
day in reference to an assault on Walmart
employees. The suspect, Bryan Boswell, 32,
was attacking employees with an aerosol can
before he ran out to the west parking lot to
steal a white truck, he said.
Hughes arrived in time to see Boswell in
the truck, and he asked Boswell multiple
times to get out of the vehicle. Eventually,
Hughes put Boswell in an arm bar and another officer grabbed his
right leg. Once Boswell got out of the truck, he refused to comply with
orders to get on the ground and started jerking upward, according to
the affidavit.
Hughes leg swept Boswell, which made him fall to the ground. A
short struggle ended with the officers forcefully bending Boswell’s
arms backward to handcuff him.
A woman who was in the truck said she was inside when Boswell
approached her window and started hitting it with a metal object.
She got scared, jumped out the truck and took off running. Boswell
chased her to get the keys and then went back to the truck, where he
was stopped.
Hughes went inside the store to talk to employees, who said Boswell was using ultra duster and was trying to take a computer. Boswell told them, “You’re being robbed” and said he had to rob the
store to get some money. The man took $20 from the register and
tried to leave, according to the affidavit.
When employees tried to stop him, Boswell started spraying at
them with the ultra duster so he could escape, they said.
Another officer found Boswell’s car, which had a computer, air
duster cans inside and a Walmart scanner.
Boswell was charged Dec. 28 of second-degree robbery, attempted
grand theft auto, knowingly concealing stolen property and larceny
from a retailer. He remains in county custody. A court date has not
been posted for his case.

STAFFORD
A Kingfisher man obviously hasn’t learned
from his mistakes after police say they
caught him touching himself in a Walmart
parking lot.
Around 1:20 a.m. on Valentine’s Day, officers went to Walmart after receiving a report
of a white male watching a pornographic
movie and touching himself in his vehicle.
When police arrived, they saw Dustin Stafford, 36, sitting completely nude in the driver’s seat of a tan 2005 Chevrolet Silverado.
The officers noted they could see Stafford’s
private parts, and when Stafford saw the officers he immediately covered himself with his hands and said, “I am not doing anything.” He
then started rolling up the driver’s side window.
When asked why he was nude, Stafford said, “I don’t know, I was
asleep.” Stafford then put on his clothes at the officers’ request and
said he didn’t know why he was naked.
Stafford said he remembered taking off his socks but didn’t remember stripping to his birthday suit, adding that the last thing
he remembered was turning on the heater in his truck. He denied
watching pornography and said he was at Walmart to buy a heater
for his daughter. However, he said he didn’t know why he was sleeping in the parking lot.
The woman who reported Stafford said she could see a pornographic movie playing in the vehicle and saw him grabbing himself.
The officers arrested Stafford on an indecent exposure complaint,
and they found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his
car, according to the affidavit.
As it turns out, Stafford has an indecent exposure conviction stemming from an incident in Enid in 2003. In that case, a woman said
she saw Stafford exposing himself and touching himself on a park
bench near the Garfield County Courthouse.
Stafford remains in custody on a $12,500 bond. He has a court date
set for 1:15 p.m. March 11.

Driving w/out license
There are times in our life when
others hurt or anger us. We sometimes
feel a strong desire to settle the score.
Proverbs 20:22 says Do not say, ‘I’ll
pay you back for this wrong!’ Wait for
the Lord and he will deliver you.”
The feelings that drive us to revenge
are powerful and strong, their
destructive nature can consume us.
The Bible responds with a “Do not...”
statement, not just a word of teaching
or advice but this verse is worded with
the strength of a command.
We would be better off to stifle the
thoughts of revenge early and quickly;
we should not even speak about it. When thoughts of revenge come we should
redirect them to thoughts of waiting on the Lord.
There are many reasons why we need to wait for the Lord to act. To wait without
giving in or compromise is a statement of faith. To wait is a testimony that we
believe in the promises of God and his commitment to us.
We are to wait, not for time to heal all wounds, or wait for an opportunity, or
wait for the sake of waiting, we are to wait for The Lord. We wait on purpose
for the one who created all things and has power to change all things, he is the
one who rules the universe and will judge the hearts of all men. We wait and we
should focus on the Lord and not our anger.
This verse ends with a conditional promise. The condition of course is not to
act on our desire to get revenge but to wait for the Lord instead. The promise is
that he will deliver. It suggest that the Lord will make things right, but it is not
specific; will the Lord deliver us from our enemies, or the situation or maybe
more importantly from ourselves and our bitterness?
As much as we need to be delivered from our own enemies we also need to be
delivered from our desire for revenge. It may be that even though God is a just
God he is more interested in changing our natures than balancing justice. He
allows circumstances in our lives to give us the challenges we need to grow. He
may sometimes deliver us not from our oppressors but from ourselves.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
In this installment of Tips From
a Trooper, I’m going to talk about a
violation that we see every day. It
is something I am sure most of my
readers have done, many times, without giving it another thought. I
doubt if most have even considered it to be unsafe, much less illegal,
but it is. The violation is passing on the shoulder, and it happens all
the time.
The car ahead of you is stopped in the lane of traffic, and you see the
left turn signal on. Its not turning because of oncoming traffic, which
it must yield to before turning, so you just slide your vehicle over to
the right, onto the shoulder, or maybe even just the widened part of
the road where the intersection is, and pass right by them. Maybe
you slowed down a little, just to be safe, or maybe not. You are in a
hurry, and don’t want to slow down to wait for traffic to clear. Doesn’t
seem like a big deal does it? Well, passing on the shoulder is illegal,
and can be a very dangerous situation!
The Statute governing this scenario is actually in the section that
states when passing on the right is permitted...it gives a few examples,
one of which is when a vehicle is preparing to make a left hand turn.
Sounds like its covered and should be legal, right? The last sentence
of this Statute is where you find the restriction for passing on the
shoulder.
It states:
The driver of a vehicle may overtake and pass another
vehicle upon the right only under conditions permitting such
movement in safety. In no event shall such movement be made
by driving off the pavement or main traveled portion of the
roadway.
Statute also defines roadway for us: That portion of highway
improved, designed or ordinarily used for vehicular travel, exclusive
of the shoulder.
The reason for this Statute is simple, and for this exact scenario...
not only is the vehicle in front of you turning left, but the oncoming
vehicle is also going to turn left, and visibility of your vehicle is
blocked by the stopped one, which makes a blind spot, and the
potential for the oncoming vehicle to turn left in front of you, just as
you are passing the other vehicle! We work accidents where this is the
causation all the time, and they can all be prevented by obeying this
law, and practicing some patience! How much time do you think you
actually save when doing this, anyway? Next time you see someone
do it, watch and see if you don’t catch them at the next traffic light...
they really didn’t save anything, and a couple of seconds aren’t worth
risking an accident and a life.
Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

burglary - 1st degree
Many burglars are known for their array of disguises.
One burglar in Slidell, La. apparently forgot his and improvised. Surveillance video shows the 23-year-old suspect used a bucket when he robbed his former employer,
Kenney’s Seafood. The bucket seemed to hinder him a
little. The suspect had to tilt up the bucket every so often
to catch a glimpse of his surroundings. It turns out his
disguise was a bad idea. Police were able to identify and
arrest the suspect at his home.
A teenage girl and her friend are accused of drugging
her parents so they could use the Internet past curfew
time. “[The parents] woke up about 1 a.m. They had
hangover-like symptoms, they felt really groggy, had a
headache, went back to sleep. They felt the same way the
next morning,” said Lt. Lon Milka with the Rocklin Police
Department. The parents picked up a drug test kit that
some parents buy to check on their children. But they
used it on themselves. They discovered the milkshakes
the two girls had given them were drugged with sleep
medicine. The girls gave chocolate to dad and vanilla to
mom. The parents’ rule was no Internet access after 10
p.m. But with the parents in dreamland, the girls had
free rein. The girls are underage, so they won’t be facing
prison time. The case is being handled through the juvenile courts.
No one can say San Bernardino’s police chief is afraid
to “tackle” crime in the city. Chief Rob Handy was in civilian clothes Wednesday when he was alerted to a suspicious man trying to sell power tools outside a restaurant.
When the man saw a patrol car nearby, he took off on
foot. The chief ran him down and tackled him. During
the pursuit, a gun fell out of the suspect’s waistband. The
suspect was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a handgun.
A bizarre brawl involving a clown and a Milwaukee
police offi cer was caught on tape. Cellphone video shot
by witness Mitch Cooper shows the clown attacking a police offi cer. “The clown was resisting so the cop needed to
do what he needed to do to make sure he was safe,” said
Cooper who happened to be driving by. “It was funny
to witness, probably not so fun for the clown, but as a
spectator it was pretty entertaining.” According to a report, police had received several complaints prior to the

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

Staffers noticed strange sports drink bottles with chemicals inside
the porta-potty and called police.
Officers arrived and soon realized someone had been inside making
meth using the “shake and bake” method.
Three bottles were found, two of them exploded before detectives
arrived.
Agents were able to neutralize the third one without the harmful
chemicals erupting.
“If someone would have been in the porta-pot when it happened
they might have gotten hurt by the flying plastic and the chemicals,”
Purcell Dt. Cpl. Scott Stephens said.
Investigators said they have a lead on one suspect but said they believe others could be
involved.
The inside of the unit was damaged but agents were able to submit latent fingerprints to a
crime lab.

A Perry man was caught stealing copper from a barn Feb. 15
and told the arresting deputy he didn’t intend to “thieve the
whole place out”.
Rusty Lee Ellis, 35, was charged with felony entering with intent to steal copper.
Noble County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigator Jeremy Wingo
was called to a rural area just south of Perry near Harvest Road
about a man stealing copper from a barn, according to the affidavit.
When Wingo arrived at the property, the property owner and
Ellis were standing on the south side of a vacant house. The owner told Wingo that Ellis was trying to steal copper out of his barn.
Wingo placed Ellis in cuffs and found tin shears, screwdrivers,
channel-locks, pliers, a roll of copper wire, and a headband LED
flashlight. The owner was handed over a pair of bolt cutters that belonged to Ellis.
At the Noble County Jail, Ellis admitted he did cut the wires in the barn, but he found the
roll of copper in the road. He added he didn’t have intentions “to going up there and thieving
the whole place,” but did indicate that if he had not been caught, he would have taken the
copper in the barn.
Bond was set at $2500.

Henry “Hank” Laird, a 17-year-old Tulsa teen, was jailed Jan. 27 after
he allegedly beat his mother to death with the butt of a shotgun and then
laughed when police took him into custody.
According to Tulsa police, a warrant for Laird’s arrest was issued the
day before after Linda Laird’s parents arrived at her home to find her
bludgeoned to death at the foot of a staircase.
The parents told police that Henry Laird and a friend, identified as Josia
Sklar, fled the residence when they arrived.
Sklar was tracked to a motel and arrested at about 2 a.m. Wednesday,
while Henry Laird remained at large.
Sklar told detectives that he watched Laird repeatedly pound his mother’s head with the
butt of a shotgun until she became unresponsive. When asked how many times Laird struck
his mother with the gun, Sklar answered “about 20 times.”
Sklar stated that Linda Laird still showed signs of life following the attack, but he didn’t do
anything because he was afraid of “Hank.” That’s when Sklar placed a pillow under Linda
Laird’s head and then went to sleep in a back room, according to the arrest report.
Police received a tip the morning of his arrest that Laird was staying at a house on South
Boston Avenue. He was taken into custody without incident that afternoon.
Detectives noted that Laird was “laughing and smiling” as they led him to a patrol car.
Both Laird And Sklar were booked into jail and charged with first-degree murder.
The Oklahoma State Medical Examinator’s Office determined that Linda Laird suffered
“blunt force trauma to the head and neck” and ruled her death a homicide.

An off-duty Hennessey police officer led Kingfisher cops to a major drug
arrest Feb. 8.
Around 2 p.m. that day, Kingfisher officer Dustin Brodrick and Sgt. Travis Gray received a call about a drunken driver. They learned the vehicle
was southbound on Highway 81 through the Kingfisher city limits and was
pulling into a local Braum’s.
Gray and Brodrick followed the car out of Braum’s and then initiated a
traffic stop after seeing a cracked windshield. Gray confronted Brian Holinsworth, 32, and asked him for his driver’s license, but Holinsworth said
his license was suspended. He gave the officer his social security card and
said he was going to Oklahoma City to pick up his son.
The officers arrested Holinsworth for the driving under suspension complaint, and after
the arrest is when things got interesting. Brodrick found a box of marijuana cigarettes in Holinsworth’s possession, which sparked a search of the vehicle.
Inside, they found three large rolls of money, which totaled more than $4,000. Also, there
was a large methamphetamine pipe, several small bags of methamphetamine and a can of glass
cleaner which had marijuana inside of it, as well as marijuana roaches and a package of rolling
papers.
Moreover, a search of the bags turned up several morphine pills. Most unfortunately for
Holinsworth, he was stopped just more than 1,500 feet away from an elementary school at the
time of his arrest.
Holinsworth faces charges of trafficking illegal drugs and having money from illegal drug activity. He remains in custody on a $150,000 bond and has a court date set for 2 p.m. March 11.

Kingfisher police officers busted a
fake prescription specialist from Yukon Feb. 12.
At around 2 p.m. Feb. 6, officer
Justin Trumbley received a call from
Dennis’s Pharmacy about someone
trying to pass a fake script. When he
arrived, he spoke to a woman who
said Joshua Caldwell, 35, came into
the pharmacy and had a script filled
the day before.
The woman said Caldwell came
back, saying he lost the pills and
needed a refill. She called the doctor’s
office on the script and an employee there said they didn’t write the
script.
On Feb. 5, Caldwell came in the pharmacy to buy over-the-counter pain cream and get antibiotic and pain pills, the woman said.
The next day, he called and spoke to the woman, asking her if there
was an over-the-counter antibiotic for pinkeye for his daughter.
She said no and told him he should take the child to a doctor. At
that point, he said he lost his medicine he received the day before
and asked what he could do about it.
Caldwell came in and said he found the antibiotic but couldn’t
find his hydrocodone pills. He said he had a refill and wanted to use
it, but the woman said she needed a doctor’s authorization. When
she called the doctor on the script, she realized that out of all the
scripts in Caldwell’s report, only five of them were real. Caldwell
was arrested on a warrant about a week later.
Caldwell faces a charge of attempting to obtain controlled substances by forgery or fraud. He posted a $10,000 bond soon after
his arrest and has a court date set for 2 p.m. March 28.

Good golly, the mollys!
Joe Stump, a 34-year-old Florida man, was jailed after he allegedly walked into a local convenience store with two knives and
begged other customers not to eat him.
According to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, a shirtless and
sweaty Joe Stump walked into a Circle K convenience store early
Feb. 8 while holding two large knives.
Shortly after entering the business, Stump made eye contact with
a witness inside the building and asked them not to eat him. Witnesses noted that Stump “appeared to be hallucinating” and called
911.
When deputies located Stump at his residence and ordered him
to drop the knives, he complied with their demand, however, he kept flinching and pulling
away from deputies as if he was being attacked by imaginary aliens, according to the arrest
report.
Later, a friend told deputies that Stump had taken mollys (a pure form of ecstasy) and may
have mixed it with alcohol. A neighbor reported that Stump began hallucinating at his home
and knocked on his neighbor’s window while holding the knives.
Stump was booked into the Collier County jail and charged with disorderly intoxication
and improper exhibition of a dangerous weapon.

GRAND LARCENY
Innocent Until Proven Guilty Major County March, 2013 | 23
Formal charges were filed Feb. 14
against a Fairview man accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of gas
from his employer and making an online
purchase for a show pig with the company credit card.
Toby Wood, 33, faces two felony
counts of embezzlement, one count each
of false personation, grand larceny, and
obtaining cash or merchandise by false
pretense.
According to court records, Wood was
working for an oil company in Major
County, but was fired last October due to
his continuing to buy gasoline on company credit for personal use.
Wood wasn’t fired the first time he stole fuel, and paid his employer
back some money for it, but continued to steal more; over $2,560
worth.
On the day Wood was fired, his company truck, phone, credit cards
and fuel cards were confiscated. An inventory of the company truck
Wood used revealed that several hundreds dollars worth of tools and
chemicals were missing.
Several days later, Wood’s former boss received a phone call on
Wood’s former phone asking for the boss by name. The caller stated
his show pig was ready to be picked up in El Reno. The boss told the
caller he never ordered a show pig, but the caller said a man named
(the boss) had ordered one online and a man named Toby was suppose to pick it up. The caller had paid $550 for the pig with a company
credit card. That card had belonged to Wood during his employment.
Earlier in 2012, Wood also allegedly stole a chemical solvent from
an unknown person or company and sold it to his boss for $1850.
During the investigation, the source Wood allegedly purchased the
chemical from denied ever selling it to Wood.
Wood was arrested Feb. 20. Bond was set at $10,000 and his next
court appearance is scheduled for March 14 at 10:00 a.m.
