AN EYE FOR AN EYE
Four people are facing murder charges in Garfield County District Court after the believed-to-be body of a missing Enid man
was found in a cellar.
According to a press release by the Enid Police Department,
detectives discovered human remains Tuesday, August 27, inside
a cellar on a property in the 1100 block of N. 12th Street.
Detectives were acting on information discovered during the
missing persons investigation of Colby Sheppard. The remains are
believed to be Mr. Sheppard’s, though official confirmation will be
determined by the Medical Examiner’s Office.
Colby Sheppard, 27, was reported missing on January 4. Mr.
Sheppard’s’ next of kin has been notified.
As a result of information uncovered during the investigation
and the discovery of the remains, Victor Battelo, 45, and Charles
Jordan, 55, were booked on complaints of first-degree murder.
Both were already in custody at the Garfield County Detention
Facility on unrelated charges.
Devin Harris, 35, was arrested later that day on a complaint of
first-degree murder and booked into the Garfield County Detention Facility.
Several days later, members of the Enid Police Department’s
Investigative Services Division traveled to Missouri to speak with
another person concerning the death of an Enid man reported
missing earlier in the year.
Detective Jose Torres and Lt. Bryan Hart traveled to Warrenton,
Missouri, and conducted an interview with Heaven Leigh Jordan,
33, regarding the homicide investigation of Colby Sheppard.
Detectives received information Jordan was in Warrenton, Missouri, and contacted the Warrenton police for assistance in locating Jordan and arresting her on a valid Major County Oklahoma
warrant.
During the interview with Jordan, she made admissions as to
her involvement in this homicide.
A Warrant was issued through Garfield County District Court
on Sept. 4 for Jordan for first-degree murder. At this time, she is
being held in the Warren County Missouri jail and is awaiting extradition back to Garfield County.
Evidence suggests Mr. Sheppard was killed in retaliation for his
rumored involvement in Kendra Battelo’s disappearance in 2022,
though detectives have not found any evidence to support the
allegation.
Kendra Battelo is still missing and her case remains an active
missing persons investigation. THOMAS

PIPE DREAMS
Alva man David Allen Willhite, 54, was arrested for
allegedly stealing more then $3,000 worth of pipe from
an oilfield supply store.
According to reports, on August 26, the owner of
TNT Fabrication showed a Woods County deputy a text
Willhite had sent. The text showed some pipe on the
ground with a message that said, “72 joints $1,500.”
The man added that an employee from Regal Oilfield
Supply told him someone had stolen some pipe from his business. The owners of TNT
and Regal Oilfield Supply believed Willhite stole the pipe from Regal Oilfield Supply and
tried to sell it to TNT Fabrication.
After interviewing the two companies’ owners, the deputy confirmed that there was
pipe missing from the business. The missing pipe was worth $3,340.80.
The deputy told the owner of TNT Fabrication to arrange a purchase of the pipe. The
sale took place on August 27 at approximately 9 a.m. Deputies saw Willhite arrive at the
location and they arrested him as he was leaving.
Willhite admitted to driving a truck and trailer to the fabrication yard. He also turned
over $1,500 he received from selling the pipe.
While searching the man’s vehicle, deputies found a 4.5 mm BB gun that was nearly
identical to a pistol. Willhite, a convicted felon, told deputies that he used the firearm to
shoot birds.
Willhite is being charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle after the former conviction
of two or more felonies, grand larceny after the former conviction of two or more felonies,
possession of firearms after the former conviction of a felony, and violation of OK stature
via computer after the former conviction of two or more felonies. His bond was set at
$10,000, and he is scheduled to appear in court on October 8, 2024.

AROUND THE NATION
A 39-year-old is charged with Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant, following an officer-involved shooting in East Lubbock.
Lubbock Police were called to the 300 block of
East 37th Street at 9:00 a.m. on August 11th for
a report of a domestic disturbance. Initial information conveyed to dispatch indicated Eliseo Padilla
III was armed with a gun and had destroyed property at the residence.
The responding officer arrived on scene at 9:07 a.m. and found Padilla in front
of the house. Padilla, who was verbally combative, ignored multiple instructions
by the officer to place his hands on a nearby vehicle in order for the officer to pat
him down. After giving multiple commands, and with the knowledge Padilla was
armed with a weapon, the officer deployed less lethal force with his department
issued Taser. Despite the deployment of the Taser, Padilla produced a firearm
and began shooting at the responding officer. In response, the officer drew his
duty weapon and returned fire at Padilla at 9:09 a.m.
The responding officer, who suffered no injuries, immediately notified dispatch
shots were fired and requested EMS. Additional officers arrived on scene and
began dispensing life-saving measures in order to treat Padilla. Upon arrival, EMS transported Padilla to University Medical Center via ambulance with
life-threatening injuries.
An investigation is currently underway by the Lubbock Metropolitan Special
Crimes Unit, LPD’s Office of Professional
Standards and LPD’s forensic unit.
The officer who fired at Padilla was
employed by the Lubbock Police Department beginning in January of 2015.
He is currently on routine administrative
leave per department policy.
Padilla, who remains in critical condition at UMC, was served a warrant for
Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant. His bond is $300,000.
