A Lindsay man was arrested after he admitted to robbing a Lindsay gas station
while under the influence of drugs.
On Dec. 9, a Lindsay police officer was dispatched to a local convenience store in reference to a robbery that had just occurred.
When he arrived at the store, a clerk told
him that a male she recognized as a regular
customer had walked behind the counter toward the money drawer, the affidavit states.
She said that she asked him what he was
doing and he told her, “I need some money.”
He then allegedly pushed her out of the way and proceeded to take
cash out of the drawer.
The clerk said she attempted to stop him as he exited the store, but
he pushed her out of the way, got in his vehicle and left the location.
She told police that the store has security cameras and the man
had not been wearing anything on his face. She added that he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
On Dec. 10, police reviewed the store’s security footage and were
able to identify the suspect as West Roy Blankenship, 21.
On Dec. 11, a family member contacted police and told them that
Blankenship had confessed to the robbery. Police arrested Blankenship and transported him to jail.
Blankenship agreed to speak to police and told them that he had
been high on meth at the time of the robbery and was not in the right
state of mind. He said that an unknown female had told him that
there was supposed to be more than $1,000 in the store’s drawer. He
admitted that he had visited the gas station with the intent of taking
the money.
Blankenship is being charged with first-degree robbery. He was
released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
Feb. 7, 2014.

Two Ardmore men were taken into
custody Dec. 23 after the driver failed
to stop for police during a traffic stop.
Casey Gibson, 23, was charged with
attempting to elude a police officer,
possession of a firearm AFC, unlawful
possession of CDS- meth, and DUI-D.
His passenger, 22-year-old James
Young, was charged with public into
and possession of a stolen property.
According to court records, Ardmore
Police Officer Billy Eades attempted to
pull over a 2005 Chevy, driven by Gibson, when he accelerated the vehicle at
times to speeds of over 100 mph. In his
effort to elude the officer, he ran several stop signs and nearly striking oncoming traffic.
When the pursuit was finally over,
police found a Taurus revolver in a
black bag in the center console of the
Chevy. Officers also found meth and
Lortab pills in Gibson’s possession.
Bond for Gibson was set at $45,000
and ordered to appear in court Jan. 28, 2014.
Young’s bond was set at $20,000 and he was ordered to appear in
court Jan. 28, 2014.

A Pauls Valley man is behind bars because he failed to
abide by laws about drugs and paraphernalia.
A McClain County deputy was on patrol on Dec. 18, on
I-35 in Purcell when he observed a red car driving erratically in the interstate. According to the affidavit, the vehicle crossed the dotted line several times after various lane
changes, and was driving in the left lane at 64 mph. According to police, it is illegal to travel in the left lane under the
legal speed limit.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop with the vehicle. The
driver, along with the passenger, Jason Paul Looney, 22,
appeared to be acting nervous and jittery, and refused to
make eye contact with the officer.
A check through dispatch revealed that both men had
previous narcotic charges. The deputy was also advised
that there was an outstanding warrant for Looney’s arrest
out of Cleveland County.
A Purcell officer and K9 arrived to assist, and the dog alerted near the left rear door of the
vehicle.
Police placed Looney under arrest and conducted a search of the vehicle. Near the passenger seat, they found a clear baggie that contained a white powdery substance, which fieldtested positive for meth.
Both men denied possession of the drug. The deputy pointed out that the location of the
drug had been closer to Looney; Looney said that although he had smoked meth the night
before, the baggie was not his.
The driver was released and Looney was transported to jail. The deputy asked if he had
anything else illegal on his person. Looney told him he had a meth pipe in his boot. The
deputy found a glass pipe with a white and burnt residue.
While emptying his pockets for booking, Looney pulled out two 20-dollar bills that appeared to be counterfeit by the deputy. The affidavit states that the weight of the paper
was light and the paper was “the wrong texture.” The print on the bills also appeared to be
crooked and uneven. Looney said that a friend had given him the bills.
Looney is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. Information regarding the counterfeit bills had been
forwarded to the Department of Treasury for investigation.
Looney is being held on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 8, 2014.

Well, winter is here! With this
most recent ice and snow storm
that gripped Oklahoma, there obviously were some significant
obstacles to safe driving. One that I have noticed, that doesn’t
really get a lot of attention, is the visibility that is obstructed by
iced over windshields and windows on vehicles. I’m going to touch
on some of that, to try to raise some awareness about it, and give
some tips to help us stay safe.
We’ve all seen it...a vehicle coming down the road with just a
small hole scraped in the windshield so the driver could see the
road. Every time I see it, I cringe! The law that governs this is
Oklahoma State Statute 47:12-404.C, which states: “No person
shall drive any motor vehicle with any sign, poster, other nontransparent material, or debris, including but not limited to snow,
ice, or frost upon the front windshield or the side wings, or side
or rear windows......which obstructs, obscures, or impairs the
driver’s clear view of the highway ahead or to either side or of any
intersecting highway.” What this means to the everyday driver is
that the little hole you scraped to drive by, just won’t cut it! While
compliance is the goal, the reason is safety! Obviously the chances
of an accident drastically increase as visibility decreases...so why
limit our vision to just a small hole out the front windshield?
There are several ways to clear those windshields, both
mechanically and chemically. A simple ice scraper has been the
preferred method for as long as most people can remember. They
are inexpensive, and easy to find. Another method is simply to go
out 10 minutes before you leave and simply start your car up, and
get the defroster going! When the windows are clear, you are good
to go! Still another way is to obtain any number of chemical deicing sprays that are available at most stores. Don’t pour hot water
on your windows, as the change in temperatures can cause your
window to crack or break!
While we are talking about it, lets not forget about those side and
rear widows. A significant percentage of accidents happen while
backing, so it stands to reason that we need to be able to see out
our back glass as well as the front. Side windows are no different,
no one wants to be struck by a vehicle they couldn’t see when they
pull into an intersection. After you finish with those side windows,
go ahead and hit those side mirrors as well!
All of these suggestions simply take a little extra time, and
sometimes money, but the time and money pale in comparison to
the impact on time and money that an accident will have on you, or
others. As a safe, courteous driver, you owe it to yourself and your
fellow drivers! Thanks for reading, buckle up and be safe!

As with other issues not specifically spelled out in Scripture, the
decision whether to drink alcohol is something each person must
wrestle with on their own, consulting the Bible and taking the matter
to God in prayer.
In 1 Corinithians 10:23-24, Paul sets down the principle we should
use in such cases:
“Everything is permissible”-but not everything is beneficial.
“Everything is permissible”-but not everything is constructive.

The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board
rejected clemency on Dec. 16 for death
row inmate Michael Wilson, 38, who is
scheduled to be executed next month for the
beating death of a Tulsa convenience store
manager in 1995.
The board voted 4-1 against commuting
the death sentence of Michael Lee Wilson.
Wilson was convicted of fi rst-degree
murder in the death of Richard Yost,
who was killed during a robbery at the
convenience store where he worked as the
night clerk on Feb. 26, 1995. Prosecutors
alleged that Wilson, who also worked at the
convenience store, planned the robbery.
He was among four people convicted in the
case.
Wilson’s execution is set for Jan. 9, 2014.
The board declined to reduce Wilson’s sentence to life in prison without parole
after Wilson apologized to members of the victim’s family and acknowledged the
harm he had caused them.

A noise complaint led to the issue of a warrant for a Marietta man’s
arrest after he admitted to having a bag of marijuana in his pants.
Maybe he should have smoked his weed a little more quieter.
According to the affidavit, Marietta police responded to a noise
complaint at an apartment in the 200 block of Bell Street on the
morning of Dec. 17.
When an officer arrived at the residence, he knocked on the front
door. When he knocked, the door opened slightly. According to police, the odor of burnt marijuana could be smelled coming from inside the apartment.
When police entered the apartment, they made contact with
21-year-old Michael Kevin McCarrell.
The cause of the noise complaint in unknown, but due to the odor of drugs that the officers
noticed, they asked McCarrell if he was in possession of any illegal substance.
Rather than deny having anything illegal, McCarrell admitted that he was in possession of
something he shouldn’t have been.
McCarrell told police that he had a bag of marijuana in his pocket and produced the evidence. He took out a small plastic bag from his right pant pocket that contained a green leafy
substance. A field test later proved that the substance was indeed marijuana.
McCarrell is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance within
1,000 feet of a park. A warrant for his arrest was issued on Dec. 18, 2013, and a bond was
issued for $1,000.

HIDDEN CAMERAS IN WOMEN’S RESTROO M
A McAlester man was arrested and faces federal and state
charges after investigators say he put a hidden camera inside the
women’s restroom at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant.
Kenneth Elkins, 55, was an employee at the plant.
Elkins is charged with three counts of federal video voyeurism,
two counts of recording/transmitting obscenity. The state is also
charging him with two counts of using electronic equipment in
clandestine manner.
Investigators say women were videotaped using the restroom at
the plant between July and August. They say Elkins captured very revealing pictures of least three of the women.
When investigators searched Elkins home they found child pornography on his
computer and evidence he was recording inside a 16-year-old relative’s room.
Elkins is out on bond.

A Moore father was taken into custody
on Dec. 17, after police caught him driving his vehicle in circles near the 1600
block of Alameda in Norman while under
the influence of alcohol.
A Norman police officer was on patrol
near the area when he heard a car slam
on its brakes. The officer looked in his
rear view mirror and saw a car sitting in
the middle of the road behind him. The
vehicle did not move for several seconds,
so the officer activated his emergency
lights to turn around and speak to the
driver of the vehicle.
As the officer started to turn his vehicle around, the suspect car
started to turn in circles at a high rate of speed in the middle of Alameda. After making two complete spins, the vehicle sped off. A chase
through Norman ensued, and the officer followed the vehicle for several miles. The driver of the suspect vehicle turned off all of its exterior lights, including headlights, and reached speeds in excess of 100
mph.
Police stop sticked the vehicle near 12th Avenue and E. Rock Creek
Road, flattening the two driver’s side tires.
The suspect continued to drive until he eventually came to a stop.
He finally exited the vehicle after multiple verbal attempts over a patrol vehicle’s PA system. When the suspect, later identified as Kevin
Perry Coffey, 37, exited his vehicle, he was immediately taken into
custody.
Coffey’s 13-year-old son was in the passenger seat of the vehicle.
During a search of Coffey, police found a can of SNUS is his pocket
that contained a green leafy substance. Coffey also smelled like alcohol and had slurred speech.
Coffey is being charged with possession of marijuana, attempting to
elude a police officer, child endangerment by driving under the influence and driving under the influence of alcohol. He was released on
a $7,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 31, 2013.

Having no tail light
(or driver’s license) led
to jail time for a Stroud
man after police found
drugs and paraphernalia in his vehicle.
According to the affidavit, a Moore police
officer pulled over the
man’s vehicle on Dec.
11, due to improper
equipment.
The man, identified as Shannon Deangelo Barnes, 31, gave the officer his Oklahoma ID card but was unable to provide the officer with
a valid insurance verification.
The officer checked with dispatch to see if the man had any warrants or a valid driver’s license. Dispatch confirmed that Barnes did
not have a valid driver’s license in Oklahoma, and Barnes told the
officer that he was not licensed to drive in any state.
The officer arrested Barnes and placed him in the patrol car.
He conducted an inventory of Barnes vehicle and found a black
CD case under the driver’s seat. Inside the CD case, the officer found
a glass pipe with a white residue that is commonly used to smoke
methamphetamine.
He also found a small bag that contained marijuana, four Xanax
pills, a digital scale and another pipe.
At first, Barnes denied any knowledge of the illegal items that the
officer found in the vehicle. He eventually admitted that the items
were his.
Barnes is being charged with possession of marijuana, possession
of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug
paraphernalia, driving without a driver’s license and failure to comply with compulsory insurance law. He was released on a $2,000
bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 31, 2013.
