After being pepper sprayed, tased and restrained, a Pauls
Valley man finally relented to being arrested for acting crazy.
According to the affidavit, Pauls Valley police were dispatched to a local motel in reference to an angry customer. An
employee told police that a man had come in that appeared to
be intoxicated demanding a refund for his room. When she refused to refund his money, the man, Mark Wayne Cordell, 47,
stormed out of the lobby and told her that he would be back for
his money.
After checking the name, police determined that Cordell had
a warrant out of Pontotoc County; Pontotoc County advised
that they wanted the subject.
Police located Cordell, but the intoxicated man wasn’t going
down without a fight.
When he saw the man, he stated to a person on the phone, “I’m going to f------ jail.” He
then began to scream at the officer. The officer noticed that Cordell was sweating profusely,
had “wide and wild” eyes and was speaking and moving erratically.
Cordell got into a fighting stance and told the officer, “Come and get it mother f-----.”
The officer took out his pepper spray and told him to get on the ground. “F--- you,” was all
Cordell said before the officer issued another warning.
Cordell refused to comply, so the officer sprayed him with the pepper spray.
Cordell was apparently impervious to the spray, because it did not seem to faze him.
Other officers arrived to assist, and Cordell threatened to fight them. A Garvin County deputy deployed his Taser on Cordell.
Cordell was placed under arrest and transported to the hospital. Once there, Cordell because extremely combative and kept trying to fight police and hospital staff.
Cordell was finally taken to jail. At first, he refused to enter the cell, telling police that they
could not move him and that he was going to fight them. Apparently he decided it wasn’t
worth being tased again, because he finally decided to walk into his cell.
Cordell is being charged with assault and battery on an emergency medical technician, resisting an officer and public intoxication. His bond was set at $2,500 and he is scheduled to
appear in court on Nov. 20, 2013.

Benjie G. Hickman, 38, was booked
into the Carter county jail on complaint of
first-degree rape on Nov. 20.
The victim reported the day before that
she had been sexually assaulted while incapacitated on medication, according to
reports.
The victim claimed she refused Hickman’s advances, but after she became
unconscious, he allegedly raped her at his
home outside Healdton.
David Lee Butler, 58, was arrested and taken to the Carter county
jail after he attacked a woman with a shingle scraper on Oct. 11.
Butler was charged Nov. 13 with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The victim told police that Butler hit her car with a shingle scraper
and then hit her car with his car, according to the court information.
If convicted, Butler could spend up to 10 years in prison or one year
in the county jail.

Month, a time to raise awareness about the consequences of
driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

• Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in motor

Drugged Driving Prevention

• Designate a sober driver before celebrations begin.
• Never serve those under the age of 21 alcohol.

A 12-year-old Wagoner boy was killed Nov. 9 by a driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. Chief
of Police Bob Haley said the boy was riding home with his
brother when he was hit by an SUV.
Haley said the two brothers were northbound on North
Story Avenue near N.E. Ninth Street just before 11 p.m. Billy
Lord, 12, was struck by a northbound SUV driven by Richard Roth of Wagoner.
Roth left the scene but later returned, Haley said.
The other brother was not injured.
Haley said Roth, 34, was booked on anticipated charges of manslaughter
and leaving the scene of a personal injury accident. Any other charges will
await the results of a blood test, but police do have reason to suspect alcohol
is a factor, he said.

A Ryan woman is in jail after police
found her passed out drunk behind the
wheel of her vehicle with a sleeping
child in the car.
On Nov. 2, a McClain County deputy
was on patrol when he observed a red
vehicle parked behind the Bottle Barn,
the affidavit states. He pulled up behind
the vehicle and noticed that the driver
was unconscious in the front seat, holding a 24-ounce can of beer. The vehicle
was running and there was a small child
sleeping in the back seat.
The deputy attempted to wake the
driver up, but he was unsuccessful. He
called EMS to assist.
The driver, identified as Katie Dean Mueller, 30, woke up and became combative. She told the deputy that she was going to kick his
ass.
The deputy, not frightened by the intoxicated woman’s threats,
could smell a strong odor of alcohol and noticed that the woman’s
speech was slurred.
He placed Mueller under arrest and asked her if she would take a
blood test.
She replied, “You’re not sticking me with a f------ needle.”
I simple “no” would have been fine.
The deputy tested the vehicle to make sure that it was operational
under its own power.
Police found that the child’s clothes were wet from urine. After he
was changed into clean clothes, the child was given some apple juice
and a cupcake. The child’s mother, however, will not be so lucky.
Mueller is being charged with child endangerment by driving
under influence and actual physical control. She is being held on a
$10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 20, 2013.

Hello to all, and Happy
Thanksgiving! By the time you
read this, you will have probably made all your holiday travel plans,
if you are going somewhere, or have people coming to your home to
celebrate. The roadways will be extra busy, and with a lot of people
traveling at the same time, the chances for accidents also go way
up. I’m going to give a few tips on how to minimize your chances
of being involved in an accident, and some ways to help insure your
holidays are safe.
Every year, we work a lot of accidents on people who are “running
late”. Speed plays a major role in accidents, as well as the severity of
an accident. Speed decreases reaction time, which a driver needs to
be able to react to anything that happens in front of them. What is
the best thing you can do to not be “running late”? Simply plan your
holiday travel a little in advance. You know what time you and your
family get off work, or get out of school, so plan your departure time
accordingly. Give yourself plenty of time for delays, bathroom and
snack stops, etc. Also, if you are running late, its OK! The people
you are going to see would rather you be late, than not arrive at all
because you were involved in an accident.
Another major factor in holiday accidents are a result of
celebrating, and then making a bad decision. I’m not going to tell
you not to enjoy your holiday, and if partaking in some egg nog or
other alcoholic drink is part of your celebration, that’s fine. Just
don’t decide to drive after you drink. Drinking and driving is a
decision, not an accident. Planning here goes a long way towards
a safe holiday. If you know you are going to drink, plan on staying
where you are, or have a designated driver.
Another thing you can do to stay safe is wear your seat belt. The
accident may not be your fault, and you may be doing everything
right, and could still end up in the hospital or worse, because you
didn’t have your seatbelt on. Even minor accidents can cause
significant damage to us if we are not properly restrained. Every
Trooper on the road has worked a fatality accident which we all
know in our heart would not have resulted in death had the person
been using a seatbelt. It takes no time to put on, but it may be the
most important thing you can do this holiday season.
To sum up, slow down and enjoy the holiday season! Plan ahead,
and use a designated driver or stay put if you use alcohol in your
celebrations. No one wants to spend the holidays in a hospital or
worse!
Holidays are for celebration, so lets take care of ourselves and
each other. Thanks for listening, buckle up and drive safe.

A Newcastle man was arrested on Nov.
16 after police found illegal items in his
vehicle.
According to the affidavit, a Newcastle
police officer was advised of a suspicious
black vehicle at an intersection in Newcastle.
The officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. He made contact
with the driver and asked for her information.
She gave him her driver’s license and an
expired security verification form, stating
that the vehicle belonged to the passenger, Thomas Olcott Wilson,
61.
The officer asked Wilson for identification. He saw that the man
had a conceal carry permit. Wilson told the officer that he was not
carrying a firearm at the time.
The officer advised the driver for the reason of the stop, and asked
what they were doing stopped in a secluded area.
She told him that she and Wilson were married and had been talking about their problems.
The officer asked the driver if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. She responded, “Not that I know of.”
Police gained consent from Wilson, the vehicle’s owner, to search
the car.
Police conducted a search and found a baggy containing a green
leafy substance that later field-tested for marijuana and crystal-like
substance that field-tested positive for meth. They also located a
loaded gun, three pills of generic Xanax and an empty hypodermic
syringe.
WIlson is being charged with two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was released on a $16,000 bond
and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 22, 2013.

Shey Gale Gray, 19, of Marietta, was
taken into custody after he allegedly
stole a bike.
Gray was charged Nov. 11 with knowingly concealing stolen property in
Love County District Court.
According to court information, Gray
is accused of concealing a copper-colored bicycle with large pegs on the rear
wheel, orange tape on the pedals, and
an orange and black seat.
If convicted, Gray could face up to
five years in prison or one year in the
county jail, or could be fined up to $500, or both.
Timothy Don Radford, 36, of Marietta, was arrested Nov. 1 on drug complaints.
Radford was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance- marijuana, in Love County District Court.
According to court information, Radford knowingly had in his possession
marijuana, a Schedule I substance.
At his preliminary hearing on Nov. 5,
Radford pled guilty to the charge and
was sentenced to one year in the county jail. All of the sentence was suspended and he was ordered to pay
court costs.
