CATCH AND RELEASE
Two Texas men have warrants for their arrest
out of Garvin County after a traffic stop turned into
a police pursuit on January 27.
According to reports, the traffic stop was going
to become a planned drug arrest before the men
sped away. Oklahoma State Highway troopers
stopped the suspect vehicle near the main Pauls
Valley exit on I-35 southbound. When a trooper
asked the men if there were any weapons in the vehicle, the passenger, Philbert
Quentin McCoy Jr., 22, allegedly told, “No sir.”
A trooper noticed that the other man, 29-year-old Lajarius Deuntra Simpson,
had an ankle monitor on. Simpson said he was on probation.
Troopers noted that both men had conflicting stories regarding what they were
up to and also appeared to be extremely nervous.
After a trooper saw multiple large trash bags in the vehicle and noticed the
odor of marijuana, he approached the passenger side. He tried to get McCoy
out of the vehicle, but McCoy instead jumped over the center console and took
off driving southbound on I-35.
Troopers detained Simpson at the scene.
Garvin County deputies accompanied troopers as they chased after McCoy.
Approximately a mile down the highway, they found the vehicle stuck in the
ditch.
McCoy fled from the scene on foot.
When troopers searched the men’s vehicle, they found seven large trash bags
and a box with vacuum-sealed bags containing marijuana.
Troopers also found weapons in the vehicle.
Even though he was detained at the scene, Simpson failed to show up for his
initial court appearance, so now both men have warrants.
Both suspects are being charged with trafficking in illegal drugs, possession
of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and endeavoring/ conspiracy
to deliver/ manufacture/ possess a controlled dangerous substance. McCoy’s
bond was set at $100,000, and a warrant was issued for his arrest on January
29, 2024.
Simpson’s bond was set at $50,000, and a warrant was issued for his arrest
on February 2, 2024.

News Flash! Trucks don’t surf!
A New York man was arrested and charged in
Florida after authorities caught him driving his pickup truck into the ocean at New Smyrna Beach, just
south of Daytona Beach, early on Tuesday.
A video shared by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office
shows a person driving a white pickup truck into the
water — sometimes driving alongside the waves and other times against it — and
even attempting to perform a donut.
The driver — later identified as 49-year-old Jason Brzuszkiewicz, of Bridgeport,
N.Y. — is then seen off the water chatting with deputies, who informed him the
beach was closed due to high tides.
Bodycam video also shows Brzuszkiewicz attempting to hide from a camera by
covering part of his face with a black baseball cap. He then tells an officer that he’s
not really the one to blame. “It’s not my fault truck don’t surf!” he says.
“Yeah, but you shouldn’t be driving on the beach when the gates are all closed,”
one deputy responds.
“I thought I was in England,” Brzuszkiewicz says.
When the deputy confirms they are not in England, Brzuszkiewicz’s response gets
even more colorful.
“We are not in Kansas, anymore?” he asks, using the famous Judy Garland line
from 1939’s MGM classic “The Wizard of Oz” — before laughing at his own joke.
According to the sheriff’s office, Brzuszkiewicz “drove around a closed gate
marked DO NOT ENTER and
accessed the beach in New
Smyrna Beach.”
He was ultimately charged
with a violation of the Volusia
County Ordinance — failure to
pay vehicular access fee — and
then taken to the Volusia County Branch Jail on a $200 bond.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

Love County deputies closed a road on February
4 after a man was discovered dead from a gunshot
wound inside a home near Lake Murray.
George Calixto Scoggin, 57, was charged February 8 with manslaughter first degree, in Love County
District Court.
According to the Love County Sheriff’s Office,
deputies were called to a home on Paschall Road
southeast of Lake Murray. When they arrived, they
discovered a deceased man with a gunshot wound.
Paschall Road was closed while investigators from
the Love County Sheriff’s Office, Chickasaw Lighthorse Police, Marietta Police, Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Oklahoma Medical Examiners Office, and Oklahoma Bureau of
Investigation (OSBI) investigated the scene.
According to court records, Scoggin believed the victim was at his home to steal
from him. He then shot the victim with a .22 Ruger rifle.
Bond for Scroggin was set at $100,000 and he is scheduled to next appear in court
on March 8 for his preliminary hearing status.

Man arrested for making multiple threats
On February 3, a church member from a
church near 5th and S. Memorial called police
about threats of mass murder made on his congregation.
The church member said he came into contact with Ruben Marquez at a
gas station near 11th and 169th. The church member said Marquez told him
that he was going to use his guns to kill everyone at the church, including
women and children.
The investigation revealed that in January, the church member made a police report after Marquez made similar threats and blamed the church for
breaking up his marriage.
Ruben Marquez was taken into custody at his home, not far from the
church. He was arrested for Threatening an Violent Act.

PILES OF PILLS
Deputies with the Murray County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 26-year-old Ardmore woman in
early February after they stopped her for tag and
equipment violations.
They also found drugs and paraphernalia in
the woman’s possession.
According to reports, a deputy stopped Madison Elizabeth Christian after he noticed an
equipment violation on her vehicle. While the deputy was speaking to the woman, Christian allegedly gave him a wrong name. He placed her under arrest, and
deputies conducted an inventory of her vehicle.
While searching the vehicle, deputies found 235 fentanyl pills, some marijuana, MDMA, DMT and 5MeO-DMT, cocaine, heroin, and 23 grams of crystal
methamphetamine.
Christian is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, possession of a controlled dangerous substance,
false personation, possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a motor vehicle while driving privileges are suspended or revoked. She is scheduled to
appear in the Chickasaw Nation District Court on March 19, 2024.
