On May 17, at approximately 11 pm, the Kay
County Sheriff's Office responded to a residential
burglary alarm in the 11000
block of west Fork Road
near Braman.
Upon arrival, deputies
found that entry had been
gained, residence had
been ransacked and several guns were found missing.
Residents living the area are asked to be aware of the possibility of further
thefts and report any suspicious activity.
The Kay County Sheriff's Office asks that anyone with information about
this theft, please contact the sheriff's office.

Twenty years ago, in Nashville, Tennessee, during the first week of January,1996, more than 4,000
baseball coaches descended upon the Opryland Hotel for the 52nd annual ABCA’s convention.
While I waited in line to register with the hotel staff, I heard other more veteran coaches rumbling
about the lineup of speakers scheduled to present during
the weekend.
One name, in particular, kept resurfacing, always with
the same sentiment — “John Scolinos is here? Oh, man,
worth every penny of my airfare.”
Who is John Scolinos, I wondered? No matter, I was just
happy to be there.
In 1996, Coach Scolinos was 78 years old and five years
retired from a college coaching career that began in 1948.
He shuffled to the stage to an impressive standing
ovation, wearing dark polyester pants, a light blue shirt, and
a string around his neck from which home plate hung — a
full-sized, stark-white home plate.
Seriously, I wondered, who is this guy? After speaking for
twenty-five minutes, not once mentioning the prop hanging around his neck, Coach Scolinos appeared to notice the
snickering among some of the coaches.
Even those who knew Coach Scolinos had to wonder
exactly where he was going with this, or if he had simply
forgotten about home plate since he’d gotten on stage.
Then, finally …
“You’re probably all wondering why I’m wearing home plate around my neck,” he said, his voice growing irascible. I laughed along with the others, acknowledging the possibility.
“I may be old, but I’m not crazy. The reason I stand before you today is to share with you baseball
people what I’ve learned in my life, what I’ve learned about home plate in my 78 years,” he said.
Several hands went up when Scolinos asked how many Little League coaches were in the room.
“Do you know how wide home plate is in Little League?”
After a pause, someone offered, “Seventeen inches?”, more of a question than answer.
“That’s right,” he said.
“How about in Babe Ruth’s day?
Any Babe Ruth coaches in the house?”
Another long pause.
“Seventeen inches?” a guess from another reluctant coach.
“That’s right,” said Scolinos.
“Now, how many high school coaches do we have in the room?”
Hundreds of hands shot up, as the pattern began to appear.
“How wide is home plate in high school baseball?”
“Seventeen inches,” they said, sounding more confident.
“You’re right!” Scolinos barked.
“And you college coaches, how wide is home plate in college?”
“Seventeen inches!” we said, in unison.
“Any Minor League coaches here?
How wide is home plate in pro ball?”............“Seventeen inches!”
“RIGHT!
And in the Major Leagues, how wide home plate is in the Major Leagues?
“Seventeen inches!”
“SEV-EN-TEEN INCHES!” he confirmed, his voice bellowing off the walls.
“And what do they do with a Big League pitcher who can’t throw the ball over seventeen inches?
Pause.
“They send him to Pocatello !” he hollered, drawing raucous laughter.
“What they don’t do is this: they don’t say, ‘Ah, that’s okay, Jimmy.
If you can’t hit a seventeen-inch target? We’ll make it eighteen inches or nineteen inches. We’ll make it
twenty inches so you have a better chance of hitting it.
If you can’t hit that, let us know so we can make it wider still, say twenty-five inches.’”
Pause.
“Coaches… what do we do when your best player shows up late to practice? Or when our team rules
forbid facial hair and a guy shows up unshaven? What if he gets caught drinking? Do we hold him accountable? Or do we change the rules to fit him? Do we widen home plate? “
The chuckles gradually faded as four thousand coaches grew quiet, the fog lifting as the old coach’s
message began to unfold.
He turned the plate toward himself and, using a Sharpie, began to draw something.
When he turned it toward the crowd, point up, a house was revealed, complete with a freshly drawn
door and two windows.
“This is the problem in our homes today. With our marriages, with the way we parent our kids. With
our discipline. We don’t teach accountability to our kids, and there is no consequence for failing to meet
standards. We just widen the plate!”
Pause.
Then, to the point at the top of the house he added a small American flag.
“This is the problem in our schools today. The quality of our education is going downhill fast and teachers have been stripped of the tools they need to be successful, and to educate and discipline our young
people. We are allowing others to widen home plate! Where is that getting us?”
Silence.
He replaced the flag with a cross.
“And this is the problem in the Church, where powerful people in positions of authority have taken
advantage of young children, only to have such an atrocity swept under the rug for years. Our church leaders are widening home plate for themselves! And we allow it.”
“And the same is true with our government. Our so-called representatives make rules for us that don’t
apply to themselves. They take bribes from lobbyists and foreign countries. They no longer serve us. And
we allow them to widen home plate! We see our country falling into a dark abyss while we just watch.”
I was amazed.
At a baseball convention where I expected to learn something about curve balls and bunting and how
to run better practices, I had learned something far more valuable. From an old man with home plate
strung around his neck, I had learned something about life, about myself, about my own weaknesses and
about my responsibilities as a leader. I had to hold myself and others accountable to that which I knew to
be right, lest our families, our faith, and our society continue down an undesirable path.
“If I am lucky,” Coach Scolinos concluded, “you will remember one thing from this old coach today.
It is this:
“If we fail to hold ourselves to a higher standard, a standard of what we know to be right;
if we fail to hold our spouses and our children to the same standards,
if we are unwilling or unable to provide a consequence when they do not meet the standard;
and if our schools & churches & our government fail to hold themselves accountable
to those they serve, there is but one thing to look forward to …”
With that, he held home plate in front of his chest, turned it around, and revealed its dark black
backside, “…
We have dark days ahead!.”
Note:
Coach Scolinos died in 2009 at the age of 91, but not before touching the lives of hundreds of players
and coaches, including mine.
Meeting him at my first ABCA convention kept me returning year after year, looking for similar wisdom
and inspiration from other coaches.
He is the best clinic speaker the ABCA has ever known because he was so much more than a baseball
coach.
His message was clear:
“Coaches, keep your players—no matter how good they are—your own children, your churches, your
government, and most of all, keep yourself at seventeen inches.”
And this my friends is what our country has become and what is wrong with it today, and now go out
there and fix it!
“Don’t widen the plate.”

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.

A man in Iowa City, Iowa, is accused of posing as a Victoria’s Secret representative
in order to get women to send him underwear photos.
Police said Sean Boies, 29, used a phishing scheme to get IDs and passwords of
University of Iowa students. He then used that information to create a profile on Qualtrics, a web-based survey platform that he used to create surveys he would send to
female students, the Iowa Press-Citizen reports.
In one survey, Boies claimed to represent the Victoria’s Secret lingerie company and
allegedly asked interested women to upload pictures of themselves in their bras and
panties in hopes of being flown to Miami for a photo shoot.
Two women submitted photos, the Associated Press reports.
Police said Boies admitted that he created the survey specifically to receive pictures
of women.
He also admitted sending a second survey promising a $25 Victoria’s Secret gift
card in return for information, according to KCRG.com
Boies allegedly admitted to police he never sent those promised cards.
Boies is charged with two counts of identity theft under $1,000 and unauthorized
computer access, KWWL.com reports. He was booked and released at the Johnson
County Jail.
A Florida police officer arrested on suspicion of purchasing cocaine reportedly told
arresting officers, “The crack is not for me, it’s for my wife.”
Christopher Heredia, 25, of the Sweetwater Police Department, was arrested after
Miami-Dade cops witnessed him allegedly purchasing drugs in a Walgreens parking
lot. When the suspect drove off, officers pulled him over, WSVN TV reports.
During the traffic stop, Heredia told officers he was an off-duty “P.O.” who had been
relieved.
The police report noted that Heredia was stuttering and appeared nervous with
trembling hands, according to NBC Miami.
A subsequent search revealed a baggie of crack cocaine on the driver’s side floorboard as well as three Xanax pills.
That’s when Heredia said the drugs were actually for his wife, the station reports.
Heredia was charged with purchasing cocaine, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, Local10.com reports.
Heredia was released on $13,500 bond. The Sweetwater Police Department did not
release why he was relieved of duty at the time of his arrest, telling NBC Miami that as
a former officer, his personal information is protected.
The Department did release a statement saying Heredia has been “relieved of duty
pending the outcome of an internal investigation.”
Police also arrested Tina Schofield, 37, who allegedly sold Heredia the drugs.
Talk about being all up in someone’s grill. A man in Dayton, Ohio, is facing indecency
charges after a witness reported seeing him attempt to have sex with the front grill of
a van parked on the street.
Officers responding to a call found the suspect, 35-year-old Michael Henson, wearing only a pair of black shorts and black shoes, according to NBC4i.com, which cited
a police report.
Henson was taken into custody and put in the back of a squad car while officers
spoke to a female witness.
She said she saw Henson pull down his shorts and then put his genitals into the
front grill of a red van parked on the side of the road, according to WDTN.com.
When the suspect passed out in the front yard near the van, the woman called
police.
Henson woke up and was walking before police came to the scene, according to
the Dayton Daily News.
Officers who questioned him said he appeared to be intoxicated.
Police contacted the owner of the van, who allegedly said he was unaware of any
incident.
Henson was booked on public indecency charges and taken to the Montgomery
County Jail.

A Dewey man is facing felony charges after
he had sexual relations with his sister.
Kyle Ray Baxter, 28, was charged May 16
with one count of incest in Washington County
District Court.
According to court records, Baxer allegedly
had sex with his sister in 2014, which resulted
in the birth of a child in May 2015. The charges
stemmed from a call from Washington County's office of Department of Human Services
Child Welfare Division to the Dewey police department. A paternity test had been administered and Baxter was determined to be the
father of a child.
Bond for Baxter was set at $25,000 and his
next court date is set for June 2.

Computer interconnectivity has produced enormous benefits, but has
also enabled criminal activity that exploits this interconnectivity for financial
gain and other malicious purposes, such as internet fraud, child exploitation, identity theft, and terrorism. The Internet can give identity thieves,
hackers, and scammers online access to your computer, financial and
personal information and more. Additionally, today’s mobile devices are
well integrated with the internet and have far more functionality than mobile phones of the past. They are increasingly used in the same way as
personal computers, potentially making them susceptible to similar threats
affecting computers connected to the Internet.
For youths, the internet often serves as a positive and powerful arena for
socializing and learning. However, the use of the internet also brings about
risks to their safety, including the dangers of sexual solicitation, online harassment and bullying, and exposure to illegal content. By discussing responsible socializing and communicating, parents -- regardless of whether
they are technologically savvy -- can help their kids make better decisions
about online behavior.
Efforts to address cybercrime include activities associated with protecting networks and information, detecting criminal activity, investigating
crime, and prosecuting criminals, . The Administration has taken significant steps to better protect America against cyber threats and has developed a pragmatic and focused cyber-security legislative proposal for
Congress to consider. The proposed legislation is focused on improving
cyber-security for the American people, our Nation’s critical infrastructure,
and the Federal Government’s own networks and computers.

An Oklahoma police chief and officer have resigned, saying they can't work for a
town that puts politics over the law.
Lindsey Green has worked in law enforcement for nearly three years. She was hired
in December as Vian’s first paid female police officer.
“It's in my blood, I guess,” she said. “You get in this business because you want to
help people.”
In March, Green accepted the officer of the month award from Chief Ted Johnson;
but now both are out of a job after resigning following the arrest of a councilman's son,
Green said.
“The law's for everyone. It doesn't matter if your dad's a council member or not,”
she said.
Green said she pulled over Josh Smith last week after another officer reported Smith
was driving with a suspended license - something she said Smith had been cited for a
few months earlier, so she arrested him and took him to jail.
Green said she had no idea who it was, but she quickly found out.
“I was not so nicely informed of who he was,” she said.
The arrest report says City Attorney Larry Vickers told Green she didn't have probable cause to arrest Smith and ordered her to release him. The report says Vian's
mayor told her she'd violated Smith's civil rights by taking him to jail, then sent the
court clerk to get Smith.
Green said she contacted the local judge who told her she had probable cause and
that the arrest was justified.
She said it’s “small town politics.”
Mayor Dennis Fletcher wouldn't comment on what the report says, saying, “I'll decline at this time to answer that. I'll have to talk to Larry, but I'd love to get back with
you on that.”
He said the city is investigating whether Green and the chief did anything wrong.
The mayor said the city did not have plans to fire Green. He said an outside agency
may be brought in to investigate.
Green said she resigned after being told she'd likely be fired.
“I know I'm in the right and I don't want a termination on my record,” she said.
Wednesday, Green’s boss did the same saying he stands by his officer.
“It makes you feel good as an officer to know that your leader, your boss, is gonna
stand behind you,” she said.

Patti B: I have the upmost respect for these two Law Enforcement Officer's!!! They
did it the right thing and stood up for their believe and also exposed corruption within
Vian's City government. Other should be fired and these two should get their jobs
back!!!
Peggy M: Something is not right here about dismissing this and releasing him. If
you are Driving Under Suspension you are subject to arrest. I think y'all need to get a
new City Councilman who is law abiding cause your family would have gone to jail. This
attorney Vickers needs to stop this good ole boy system. If he's in office y'all need a
new lawyer too. Abide by the law just like everyone else.

not letting the small minded people tarnish your badge or your name...
Alvina K: That's what's wrong with Law Enforcement they think it's about doing
favors for other cops and city officials and cover ups which make them all criminals
also! People don't trust them because of how it is! Then when they do have any that
are really trying to uphold the Law this is what they get!? Very sad now I see why the
whole America is screwed up.
Dakota M: God sees what's going on here! Officer Green did nothing wrong I
stand behind her 100% Vian is drama and money hungry cause they have nothing better to do I left the Vian fire department because I'm sick of the buddy buddy system!
People that put their lives on the line for others get should be getting more respect then
they do! But this the way we should all look at it God is seeing what's going on and
he's got a plan to fix this towns problems! Let's just say a prayer for these two officers
and this town!
Monty G: Does anyone know why the officer initially stopped the council member's son? Did she somehow magically know he was driving under suspension or was
he speeding, running a stop sign or what, then while checking him out discover here
had no license?
Nancy M: It doesn't matter. No valid drivers license is illegal and no license means
no insurance & that's illegal also.
Tony H: I changed lanes once with blinker. Got pulled over and searched .reason?
" failure to maintain a lane". Bs
Monty G: I'm not defending the kid AT ALL. I was curious why she stopped him.
He had no license so she was correct.
Jerri S: It doesn't matter ... disobeying the LAW is against the law !
Paul D: It DOES matter since they need probable cause to stop him and since you
can't see they have no license that means he did something else to be stopped
Sarah E: Actually if an officer knows you have no license or suspended or revoked
that is probably cause to stop you
Blake A: Paul - you don't need probable cause to stop someone. The legal standard to stop someone is reasonable suspicion. If you have probable cause then you
have more than enough to stop someone. So all she needs is RS. Being told by another officer "the driver of that vehicle you are behind has a suspended DL" is probable
cause and more than meets the reasonable suspicion required to stop a car. This type
of situation happens all the time. You can even go look up case law. This is completely
legal and officers need no other reason.
Kyle H: Yes in another report she had PC. Two actually. A certified officer said he
was suspended. Second I believe it was no turn signal.
Jenn P: There is always two sides to a story, and those who scream the loudest in
their own defense normally aren't telling everything... Not to mention in all the stories I
have seen none of them are the same.. Makes you wonder why?
Lee D: To these two officers, everything will work itself out and you will find satisfaction. Keep fighting the good fight and standing up for the law. To the city officials, and
anyone else who thinks the world owes "them" something 2 things. SHAME ON YOU
AND KARMA IS A REAL THING.
