A Porum man known to assault officers
was arrested for drunk driving on March 2,
after he just couldn’t seem to keep his vehicle between the lines.
According to the police report, a Leflore
County deputy was driving westbound on
Highway 9 when she saw a truck drive left
of center twice.
She initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 9 and Highway 59, and
made contact with the driver, identified as
Gregory Ryan Barnes, 46.
As she was speaking with Barnes, she noticed a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle.
Dispatch advised the deputy that Barnes did not have a driver’s
license and that there was a safety warning that Barnes was known
to assault officers.
She returned to Barnes’s truck and asked him if he had been drinking; he admitted to drinking two beers.
She asked him to step out of the vehicle for standard field sobriety
tests. After he performed poorly on the test, the deputy placed him
under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence.
As she was inventorying the vehicle, she found an empty pack of
rolling papers and a clear bag containing a green leafy substance that
tested positive for marijuana. There were also two open cans of beer
in the vehicle.
Barnes is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, possession of a controlled dangerous
substance, driving with license revoked and transporting an opened
container of beer. His bond was set at $4,000, and he was scheduled
to appear in court on March 17, 2014.

Police say a Spiro man is in jail after he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend in the neck on
March 7.
According to the affidavit, Spiro police
were dispatched to a stabbing call at a Spiro
business. When an officer arrived, he made
contact with a woman who was holding a
bloody cloth to her neck. A first responder
with the fire department was tending to her
wound.
The woman told the officer that her boyfriend, 32-year-old Aaron Eugene Reed, had stabbed her in the neck.
Witnesses told the officer that they saw a man attempting to pull
the victim behind the store, and later saw the victim holding her neck
with blood over her hand. The witnesses said the victim was screaming and when they went to check on her, the suspect ran across the
street. They said they saw blood coming from the victim’s neck, and
the victim was screaming that her boyfriend had stabbed her.
The victim was transported to a hospital by ambulance. She told
the officer the next day that doctors told her the knife used in the
stabbing had hit a small artery and had misses the main artery by
millimeters.
The officer later reviewed footage from security cameras from a
business near the location of where the alleged attack took place.
The video showed the victim and Reed arguing, and then they both
walked out of the camera view for a brief moment. The victim then
ran back into the camera view, holding her neck, and Reed tried to
pull her back around the building.
Reed is being charged with assault and battery with a dangerous
weapon. He is being held on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 21, 2014.

Spring is a time of new
beginnings, brought about by
spring rains that start quenching
the winter thirst of all things dormant through the winter. Although
lately, things seem to have been drier than usual, I’m writing this
Tips in the hopes of maybe bringing about some much needed rain
by talking about it! If you’ve lived in Oklahoma any period of time,
you know that spring rains usually bring spring flooding, which
can significantly impact travel in the state. I’m going to talk a little
about the dangers that roadway flooding can present, and some
tips for avoiding them.
Every year that we have flooding, we get stories about
motorists who are stranded in water that has risen up over the
roadway. The news has the usual shot of one vehicle with its
hazard lights on not moving, followed by video of other vehicles
still driving through these flooded roads. The solution is very
simple, if you don’t want to be that vehicle that is stranded, don’t
drive through standing water! Most of the locations that typically
flood over in heavy rains are traditional places where this happens
year after year. The problem with this is that usually, the locals
think since they’ve been able to drive through it before, it shouldn’t
be any problem now. A lot of things can happen under water that
we can’t see though. Parts of the roadway could wash out, debris
could be covered up that can’t be seen, and other unseen hazards
could be present. All of these things can spell disaster for the
person who assumes it will be ok to drive through standing water
on the roadway.
Next, don’t drive around “Road Closed” signs. Every year
in these traditional flood areas, the public safety officials close the
roads for safety, and every year people drive around those signs
and end up needing rescued. Not only are those signs put up for
your safety, it is illegal to drive around them. They are Official
Traffic Control Devices, and as Oklahoma State Statute 47:11-201A
states: The driver of any vehicle shall obey the instructions of any
official traffic-control device...unless otherwise directed by a traffic
or police officer.
Last, be aware of your surroundings, so that you can find
an alternate route if needed. In today’s technology driven world,
this is easier than ever to do. Use that smart phone, tablet, or GPS
device to find a way around flooded areas. Also, when the potential
for floods can cause roads to be closed, give yourself extra time to
reach your destination, in case an alternate route is needed.
Hopefully, this spring will be full of showers that bring
out the green grass and flower blooms, instead of continued burn
bans. If those April showers bring those May flowers, now you’ll
have some tips for avoiding any of the pitfalls that inherently come
with them! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!
Tips from a Trooper

Whitesboro man Anthony Heath Pugh, 32, was arrested
March 9, after he allegedly attacked his wife while under the
influence of drugs.
According to the affidavit, a Latimer County deputy met
with a woman at a convenience store in Red Oak. She had
requested to speak with a deputy regarding alleged domestic
violence that had occurred several hours prior at her residence in Red Oak.
She said her boyfriend, identified as Pugh, had been “in
and out [of the residence] all evening thinking the cops were
coming to get him.” She alleged that Pugh was “really high,”
and yelled at her and threw her around in front of her children.
Police went to Pugh’s residence in order to interview him
about the alleged abuse. When they arrived, they approached the door and identified themselves. The door opened and a deputy said, “Show me your hands.”
Two empty hands came out of the doorway. The deputy asked the man standing in the
doorway what his name was, and the man identified himself as Pugh. Police asked if they
could speak with him inside the residence and Pugh said yes. They entered the residence,
and a deputy noticed that Pugh was behaving erratically and he had extremely dilated pupils.
The deputy asked Pugh if he used illicit drugs, and Pugh admitted to using methamphetamine within the past day. When asked if there was anything illegal in the home, Pugh said
not that he knew of and gave police permission to search.
While speaking with Pugh about the alleged domestic abuse, a deputy noticed a syringe on
the top of a trashcan. The deputy asked Pugh what the syringe was. Pugh said it belonged to
his girlfriend, and she used it to ingest meth.
The syringe field-tested positive for meth.
Police placed Pugh under arrest and transported him to jail.
Pugh is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and domestic assault and battery in presence of a minor. His
bond was set at $3,500, and he is scheduled to appear in court on March 18, 2014.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma Department of Human Services to impact the huge
social problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they
have a chance at a productive life. Children have the right to get
support from both parents and do not lose this right when a
parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children,
taxpayers often pay the cost of raising children. When children
receive public assistance and their parents pay no child support,
all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

FTA- PUBLIC INTOX DUI
A repeat offender allegedly told an officer that he was going to
discuss the situation with the officer’s father at a coffee shop, after
the officer caught the man driving drunk for a second time.
According to the affidavit, a Hartshorne police officer was driving westbound on Pennsylvania Avenue on March 9, when he noticed a green car driving south on Ninth Street.
The officer noticed that the vehicle came to a very abrupt stop at
the red light. The officer watched as the car continued to drive erratically, driving on the shoulder and crossing into the other lane.
The officer conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the
driver, identified as Craig Scott Powell, 58. As the officer was
speaking with the Hartshorne man, he noticed an odor of alcohol
coming from inside Powell’s vehicle.
The officer told Powell why he had pulled him over and asked him if everything was OK.
Powell replied in slurred speech that everything was fine.
The officer asked Powell to step back to his patrol car while he ran his information. As
Powell stepped out of the vehicle, he allegedly had trouble standing up and appeared to be
unsteady on his feet.
Once they were in the patrol car, the officer asked Powell if he had been drinking. Powell
asked the officer what his name was and told the officer that he remembered him from the
time the officer arrested him before.
The officer remembered the incident and that it was for a DUI. The officer again asked Powell if he had been drinking.
Powell admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening. He refused to perform standard
field sobriety tests due to health issues, but a breath test confirmed that Powell was intoxicated.
The officer placed him under arrest and once at the jail. Powell allegedly told the officer that
he would do everything in his power to ruin the officer’s life like the officer had ruined his.
Powell added that he would go to the coffee shop while the officer’s dad was drinking coffee
and talk with him about it.
The officer warned Powell not to threaten him or his family.
Powell is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol
and unsafe lane use. He was released on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on
March 21, 2014.
I’m gonna tell your dad!

The Bible does not specifically use the term
“child abuse.” There is no record of a single
instance in the Bible where a child is being abused.
What the Bible does tell us is this: children have
a special place in God’s heart and anyone who
harms a child is inviting God’s wrath upon Him.
When Jesus’ disciples tried to keep children from
coming to Him, He rebuked them and welcomed
little children to His side, saying, “Let the little
children come to me and do not hinder them for the kingdom of God
belongs to such as these” (Mark 10:14). Then He took the children in His
arms and blessed them (v. 16).
Children are abused and mistreated in several different ways, all of which
are abhorrent to God. Too many children are the victims of angry beatings
and other physical abuse as their parents take out their own anger and
frustration on their children. Anger is almost always sinful, and anyone
who abuses a child in anger commits multiplied sins. “An angry man stirs
up dissension, and a hot-tempered one commits many sins” (Proverbs
29:22). There is no place for unrighteous anger in the life of a Christian,
as Paul reminds the Ephesians: “In your anger do not sin: Do not let the
sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold”
(Ephesians 4:26-27). Anger should be confessed to God long before it comes
to the point of physical abuse against a child or anyone else.
Psychological and emotional abuse is also forbidden in Scripture.
Ephesians 6:4 warns fathers not to “exasperate” or provoke their children,
but to bring them up in the “training and instruction of the Lord.” Harsh,
unloving discipline alienates children’s minds from their parents and
renders their instructions and corrections useless. In addition, it often leads
to sin against God, as it is difficult in the best of children to be angry and
yet not sin. Parents can provoke and exasperate their children by placing
unreasonable requirements on them, belittling them, or constantly finding
fault, thereby producing wounds that are far worse than any physical
beating can inflict. Colossians 3:21 tells us not to “embitter” our children so
they will not become discouraged. Ephesians 4:15-19 says we are to speak
the truth in love and use our words to build others up, not allow rotten or
destructive words to pour from our lips, especially toward the tender hearts
and minds of children.
So, even though the Bible does not specifically mention child abuse, it is
abundantly clear how God feels about the issue. Anyone who suspects a child
is being abused has the obligation to report it to appropriate authorities.
Bible Says:

April is Sexual Assault
Awareness Month
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released a special report, The National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS): 2010 Summary Report, which expands upon
data from the original NISVS summary report released in 2012. The
complete report is available on the CDC’s website at http://www.cdc.
gov/violenceprevention/nisvs/.
Below are some key sexual violence-related findings that the National Sexual Violence Resource Center would like to share:
PREVALENCE OF IPV
• Sexual violence is common among intimate partners. Nearly 1 in
10 women in the United States (9.4%) has been raped by an intimate
partner in her lifetime, including completed forced penetration, attempted forced penetration, or alcohol/drug-facilitated completed
penetration. (Page 1)
• Approximately 1 in 6 women and 1 in 12 men in the U.S. have
experienced sexual violence other than rape by an intimate partner
during their lifetime. (Page 13)
• The lifetime prevalence of rape, physical violence, or stalking by
an intimate partner is higher for both women of color and men of
color than for white non-Hispanics. (Pages 27, 29)
PREVENTION AND VICTIMIZATION
• Most IPV starts before age 25, so primary prevention of IPV must
begin at an early age. (Page 73)
• Adolescent victims: 1 in 5 female victims and 1 in 7 male victims
who experience rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate
partner were first victimized between the ages of 11 and 17 years old.
(Page 51)
• College-aged victims: Approximately 14.8% of women and 9.8%
of men (18 to 24 years old) experienced rape, physical violence, or
stalking by an intimate partner. (Page 33)
• The link between sexual violence and housing: 10% of women
and 7.9% of men who experienced housing insecurity in the past
12 months had a significantly higher 12-month prevalence of rape,
physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner when compared
with women and men who did not experience housing insecurity.
(Page 34)
SERVICES
• Help (such as medical care, housing services, victim’s advocate
services, community services, and legal services) is needed: 44.9%
of female victims and 65.7% of males who said they needed services
reported that they never received the services they needed. (Page 56)

An Oklahoma City attorney is facing prison time after being arrested inside the Oklahoma County jail. The Sheriff’s
office says the investigation when a female inmate told deputies the man she thought was her attorney was engaging in
sexual acts during visitations.
Deputies arrested Frank Kirk, 70, on Monday after setting
up a sting that caught him on audio tape with the inmate. Investigators say the inmate originally contacted Kirk in January about representing her, but it turns out he never filed to
be her attorney of record.
“Kirk told the victim that since she didn’t have the cash to pay for his services she could make it up to him by performing sexual acts instead,” said
Sheriff John Whetsel.
Sheriff Whetsel said the investigation revealed the Kirk only pretended to
represent the woman who was in jail on drug charges. She discovered the ruse
when the public defender’s office contacted her about her case. That’s when
the woman talked to deputies and agreed to assist in the investigation.
Investigators say the woman met with Kirk inside the jail and he is heard on
audio tape making advances towards her. The sheriff’s office says the woman
was told to use the phrase “my pants are too tight” to signal deputies to enter
the room. “During his visit, Kirk furnished her with lubricating jelly and a sex
toy and as this began our investigators opened the door and arrested Frank
Kirk immediately.”
According to court documents the female inmate told investigators that Kirk
coerced her into performing sexual acts while he watched at least four times.

Two women with seemingly poor
hostess skills requested the assistance
of police in kicking out a drunk man
who refused to leave their house after
imbibing in a few too many drinks.
A McIntosh County deputy was dispatched to a residence east of Checotah on March 4, in reference to a
drunk individual that was not welcome to stay at the said place. When
he arrived, he made contact with the
owner of the home who was waiting
outside for his arrival. The homeowner and her sister told the deputy that
a man, later identified as Ryan Gentry
House, had consumed too much liquor and was not allowed to stay
at the residence.
The deputy entered the home and found the 22-year-old Sasakwa
man passed out on the couch. The deputy attempted to wake him up.
House finally responded to the deputy’s attempts to rouse him, and
the deputy informed him that he needed to leave the residence.
After House refused with the deputy’s commands, the deputy
placed him under arrest for public intoxication. The deputy began
to help him off the couch, but House was none too pleased at his
drunken slumber being disrupted. He allegedly began pulling away
from, and kicking the deputy.
The deputy deployed his Taser and warned House that he needed
to comply. House refused, and the deputy stunned him near the top
of his shoulder. House continued to struggle, so the deputy placed a
cartridge in his Taser and warned House several more times before
stunning him into his chest area.
House finally settled down and the deputy transported him to jail.
House is being charged with obstructing an officer. He was released
on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 23, 2014.

Cara Claffy, a 35-year-old New Mexico woman, was jailed after
she allegedly assaulted her own mother with a vibrator.
According to police, officers were dispatched to an Albuquerque
residence after Sheryl Claffy, 60, called to report that her
daughter, Clara, “struck her on the head with a vibrator” and
was attempting to flee the scene.
When officers arrived at the residence, Sheryl Claffy pointed
them towards a nearby truck and told them that she believed her
daughter was inside. Officers noted that the Sheryl Claffy was
“bleeding profusely” from her head.
Officers inspected the truck and found a male driver inside
with a vibrator laying on the passenger side floor. Cara Claffy was not inside the
truck, however, she was detained moments later as she exited a neighbor’s home.
During a police interview, Claffy admitted to arguing with her mother but denied
striking her with a vibrator. She then insisted that her mother’s injury was self
inflicted.
Officers interviewed Sheryl Claffy who stated that she and her daughter were
watching television when an argument ensued. That’s when her daughter allegedly
picked up a vibrator and struck her in the head with it.
Cara Claffy was booked into the Bernalillo County Jail and charged with aggravated
battery and domestic violence. Her bond has been set at $3,500.

Adrianna Waller in 1997 in
Oklahoma County. He was
convicted in 1999. Adrianna
was the daughter of Warner’s
live-in girlfriend. During the
sentencing phase, jurors heard
testimony that he had previously
sexually and physically abused
his ex-wife and a fi ve-yearold girl. Warner’s seven-year-old son testifi ed for the
prosecution that he had witnessed his father abuse
Adrianna on previous occasions. During the ultimately
fatal attack she was sexually molested. She had a sixinch skull fracture, a broken jaw, three broken ribs,
bruised lungs and a lacerated liver and spleen.
Warner has been on death row since August 4, 2003.
Charles Warner and another inmate scheduled to
die this month, Clayton Lockett, have fi led a lawsuit
challenging the constitutionality of a state law
prohibiting disclosure of the identity of people who
provide drugs to be used in executions. It also asks that
their executions be blocked until the information is
provided, reports say.

Some things, such as driving and
vodka, just don’t mix.
McCurtain man Nicholas Eugene
Holt, 20, told police that he was
“having road rage” when authorities caught him on the morning of
Feb. 27 allegedly driving drunk and
following a vehicle too closely, according to a police report.
A Stigler police officer was alerted to Holt’s crazy driving when dispatch advised him that there was a
reckless driver on Highway 9 coming into Stigler.
The officer located the suspect
vehicle and noticed that it was
flowing too closely to the vehicle in front of him. The suspect car was
so close to the vehicle in front of it that it was almost hitting the back
bumper.
Police pulled the vehicle, driven by Holt, over at Main and NE
Eighth Street.
An officer made contact with Holt and asked him why he was following the vehicle in front of him so closely.
Holt said that he was having road rage. He also admitted with
slurred speech that he had consumed vodka the night before. The
officer could smell a strong odor of alcohol and noticed that Holt’s
eyes were bloodshot.
Holt failed to perform well on the standard field sobriety tests and
he was placed under arrest. He agreed to take the state’s test, but the
Breathalyzer stopped working.
Holt agreed to a blood test, but once they were at the hospital, he
allegedly refused to give blood unless his lawyer was present.
Holt is being charged with driving a motor vehicle while under the
influence of alcohol. His bond was set at $2,500 and he was scheduled to appear in court on March 4, 2014.
Don’t drive angry!
