OKIE GOING TO THE POKEY
Robert L. Lemons, 33, of Idabel, was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment for Felon In Possession of Firearm & Ammunition.
The charges arose from an investigation by
the Idabel Police Department, the McCurtain
County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The single-count Indictment to which Lemons previously entered a guilty plea alleged
that on or about January 13, 2019, Lemons,
having previously been convicted of a crime
punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, and knowing of said conviction, did knowingly possess in and affecting commerce, a firearm and ammunition
which had been shipped and transported in interstate and foreign commerce.
“The investigation in this case began with a report of a person exhibiting
suspicious behavior. A citizen doing the right thing led to removing a firearm
out of the hands of a convicted felon. If you see something unusual or suspicious, contact law enforcement immediately,” said Acting United States Attorney Christopher J. Wilson.
“Felons and firearms don’t mix, Mr. Lemons now knows this. The streets
are safer because of the hard work of all our law enforcement partners,” stated ATF Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey C. Boshek II.
The Honorable Ronald A. White, U.S. District Judge in the United States
District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, presided
over the hearing. The defendant will remain in custody pending transportation
to the designated federal facility at which the non-paroleable sentence will be
served.

We often receive calls asking if there is a price to keep
someone out of our publication. The short answer to that
question is NO! OK Jailbirds has never accepted money
or favor to not publish a photo.
We hear many times from people that the arresting officer of someone at the jail told them all they have to do
is pay us money and we will not publish their photo. This
is NOT true. We feel that taking money in exchange for
not publishing an arrest photo is extortion and, as such,
should be a crime.
There are companies who do take money to remove a
person’s arrest information. OK Jailbirds never has and
never will. If an arrest doesn’t make our paper, it is only
because we didn’t receive it or we didn’t have a photo we
could match up.
Thank you and God Bless

8 | APRIL 2021 ATOKA COUNTY Presumed Innocent Until Proven Guilty
APRIL IS NATIONAL CHILD ABUSE
PREVENTION MONTH
April is National Child Abuse Prevention
Month, a time to recognize that we each can
play a part in promoting the social and emotional well-being of children and families in communities.
Parenting is one of the toughest and most
important jobs in America, and we all have a
stake in ensuring that parents have access to
the resources and support they need to be successful. Entire communities play a role in helping families find the strength they need to raise
safe, healthy, and productive children.
Here are some things you can do:
Get to know your neighbors. Problems seem less overwhelming when
support is nearby.
Help a family under stress. Offer to babysit, help with chores and errands,
or suggest resources in the community that can help.
Reach out to children in your community. A smile or a word of encouragement can mean a lot, whether it comes from a parent or a passing stranger.
Be an active community member. Lend a hand at local schools, community or faith-based organizations, children’s hospitals, social service agencies,
or other places where families and children are supported.
Keep your neighborhood safe. Start a Neighborhood Watch or plan a
local “National Night Out” community event. You will get to know your neighbors while helping to keep your neighborhood and children safe.
Learn how to recognize and report signs of child abuse and neglect.
Reporting your concerns may protect a child and get help for a family who
needs it.

INNOCENT BYSTANDER
In a version of the March 2021 edition of Atoka Counties’ OK Jail-birds,
Dwight Crawford’s mugshot was reported incorrectly. The charge and
name was correct, but the picture is incorrect.
In this picture, former deputy Greg Munholland was in the background of
the original booking photo and our auto-cropping software pulled his picture
into our database instead of Dwight Crawford’s photo. As soon as we were
notified of the error, the product was removed from our website and copies
were removed from stores. All copies of the previous version were on the
shelves for less than 12 hours and have now been destroyed. We then
printed a new edtion to replace it.
In the future Jailbirds staff will inspect every photo prior to cropping to make
sure we don’t have any innocent bystanders lingering around.
The staff at Jailbirds deeply regrets and sincerely apologizes for any
embarrassment or other difficulties this error may have caused Mr. Munholland and his family.

MULTIPLE COCKS FOUND
ON ALLISON PROPERTY
On Saturday February 27th, 2021, Bryan
County Deputies responded to a call for
service in the area of Allison south of Durant. Upon arrival, the two initial responding
deputies noticed numerous vehicles and
people on scene. Once on scene, multiple
parties ran into the wooded areas conjoined
to the property to avoid detection. As the
deputies continued onto the property, more
vehicles and more persons were seen running into the wooded areas.
While investigating the call for service, deputies noticed over 100 vehicles, trailers and campers along with approximately 250 people on the
property. Deputies made contact with the property owner inside the barn
on the property, as well as numerous other individuals. Inside the Barn, the
deputies located arena-style seating, bleachers, food concessions, standing call podium and an area described as a “Pit” covered in feathers, a
noticeable amount of blood and chicken feathers.
Inside the adjoining building to the barn, deputies noticed staging areas that were also littered with feathers, chicken feces and a detectable
amount of blood, as well as numerous caged game cocks.
Back outside of the barn area, one male was arrested after attempting to
direct traffic through a damaged fence panel that he had removed.
Deputies secured the scene and contacted the Bryan County Criminal
Investigation Division, advising them of their findings. A short time later,
investigators arrived on scene made contact with the property owner who
then accompanied the investigators throughout the property. On the property, investigators located numerous live birds who appeared to be in good
health and provided for, as well as bodies of deceased birds, throughout
the grounds of the property.
Investigators located a barrel that was filled with dead birds having injuries consistent with cock fighting. Investigators also located two live birds
who later perished.
Once in the “Pit” area, numerous items of evidentiary value in regard to
the facilitation of cock fighting and illegal gambling were detected. Within those items were weighing scales, betting ledgers, house rules, gaffs,
twine, and medicine, just to name a few. Along with the collected evidence, investigators photographed and documented every person on the
property, as well as their vehicles, before leaving the property.
The Bryan County Sheriff’s office is conducting a complete investigation
of the operation. The investigation will include all parties involved and will
be submitted to the Bryan County District Attorney’s Office.

Drunken job interview ends in arrest, not
an offer letter
TULSA, Okla. – A job interview fueled by
booze ended badly for the applicant after he
allegedly attacked the other man when he
learned that he wouldn’t be getting the position.
According to a release from the Tulsa Police
Department, officers were dispatched to the
Mingo RV Park at approximately 2:30 a.m. on
March 5 to investigate a shooting.
Apparently, both the suspect and the victim
called the police.
Officers were advised that two intoxicated
men at the scene decided that for some reason, they should discuss a job while they were both drunk. They got into
some kind of argument during the intoxicated interview.
When Irvin Roach learned that he didn’t get the job, he wasn’t too happy.
He allegedly used his truck to pin the victim against a nearby trailer and
trailer hitch.
The victim, in response, fired several shots at Roach, grazing him once
on the shoulder. He told police that he feared for his life, so he fired the gun
through Roach’s windshield.
Roach left the scene and headed to a nearby gas station, where he called
the police and said he had been shot. The victim also called the police and
said he had been assaulted.
The man who fired a gun at Roach was not arrested.
Roach was arrested on a complaint of assault with a deadly weapon after
former conviction of a felony.

CONFESSIONS OF A BURGLARY SUSPECT
A 23-year-old man was booked into the
Haskell County Jail after he allegedly confessed to burglarizing at least two different
stores in two different counties.
According to the Haskell County Sheriff’s
Office, on February 15, the Haskell County
Sheriff’s Office and The McCurtain Police Department were dispatched to at burglary call
at the Tote-A-Poke Store in McCurtain. Upon
arrival, Haskell County Deputies and McCurtain Police Officers conducted an investigation and learned that the subject had left on
foot.
Over the next several weeks, Investigator
Dustin Lynch and Sheriff Tim Turner began interviewing people of interest regarding the burglary with the help of McCurtain
Police Officers Oliver Taylor and Jered Barrios.
On March 5, Sheriff Turner and Investigator Lynch interviewed Troy Burbank
at the Haskell County Sheriff’s Office. During the interview Burbank confessed to two burglaries, one being the Tote-A-Poke and the other being the
Tigers Den, located in Bokoshe, in Leflore County.
“As we continue to see legislation decriminalizing certain illegal acts,” Sheriff
Turner said, “My stance is that we will continue to protect the citizens of this
county at all costs.
