An Alma, Ark., man was busted at
a casino after he imbibed in some liquid courage before confronting his wife
about her gambling activities.
According to the affidavit, a Choctaw Nation Tribal Police office was dispatched to the Pocola Casino on Feb. 3,
due to a domestic dispute.
When he arrived, casino security had
already separated the two arguing parties; a security officer said he saw a man
identified as Levi Luke Jeffrey, 41, hit his
wife.
The officer spoke with the wife, who told him that Jeffrey did not
hit her. When the officer said that an off duty security guard had witnessed it, she claimed that Jeffrey had grabbed money she was trying
to give him and then hit their vehicle.
The officer then spoke with Jeffrey. Jeffrey told the officer that he
went to the casino to get his wife because she was spending their
money, but she didn’t want to leave.
He admitted that they had argued, but denied hitting her.
While speaking to Jeffrey, the officer could smell the odor of alcohol. He asked Jeffrey if he had been drinking.
Jeffrey told the officer that he had consumed four beers about four
hours prior. The officer asked Jeffrey if he was driving, and Jeffrey
said that he was.
The officer performed a sobriety test on Jeffrey, which he failed.
The officer asked him again how much he had had to drink; Jeffrey
said he had “four pretty big beers on the way [to the casino].”
Since he couldn’t let Jeffrey leave with his wife due to their quarreling, the officer placed Jeffrey under arrest and transported him to
jail.
Jeffrey is being charged with public intoxication. He was released
on a $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 25, 2014.

A Poteau man was arrested after he led a police officer on
a chase through the snow.
According to the affidavit, a Poteau police officer was on
patrol Feb. 2, when he passed a man and woman walking
southbound on North Saddler.
The officer noticed that the man looked like 28-year-old
Joseph Lee Woodward, who had outstanding warrants
from the LeFlore County Sheriff’s Office.
The officer stopped next to the man and woman and
asked them if he could help, because it was snowing and
very cold.
The man looked at the officer, and the officer told him,
“Joseph I need to talk to you.”
Woodward didn’t want to talk to the officer. He took off
running and the officer pursued him on foot, yelling at him to stop several times.
The officer briefly lost contact with Woodward. He made contact with a homeowner who
told him that Woodward had come to her door, but she didn’t let him in.
Officers soon saw him running in an alley, but lost him again after Woodward failed to yield
to their commands.
Police noticed that Woodward’s tracks ended in some shrubs. They commanded Woodward to come out from the shrubs; he did, but he was soon off again.
Police officers eventually caught up to Woodward and placed him in hand restraints.
During a pat down search of the man, an officer located a plastic baggie containing a crystal
substance that field-tested positive for meth.
Woodward is being charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and obstructing an officer. He is being held on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court
on Feb. 18, 2014.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol
Lately I’ve noticed that a lot
of the motoring public is having
trouble properly signaling for, and
making turns. I’ve also noticed, that when people do properly signal
and make turns, a lot of others who are in a hurry, seem to not pay
attention to those signals or turns, resulting in a lot of near-hits and
actual accidents...some with very tragic consequences. Today I’m
going to talk about how to properly signal, prepare for and execute
turns on the roadway, as well some common sense for those drivers
who are in too much of a hurry to slow down for those turning.
First, lets address state law on signaling. Oklahoma State
Statutes Title 47-11-601 and 11-604 outline the requirements for
turning movements and required signals, but the short version is
this. When turning left you must position yourself as close to the
left side of the furthest left lane of travel in your direction, and must
turn to the closest lane to you. Don’t cut the corner! When turning
right, you must position yourself as close to the right hand curb or
edge of the roadway, and also turn to the closest lane to you!
Now that we know the proper positions, lets talk about those
signals. A signal to turn right or left is required to be given
continuously for not less than the last 100 feet traveled by the
vehicle before turning. Furthermore, no person shall stop or
suddenly decrease speed without FIRST giving an appropriate
signal! How many times have you seen a vehicle slow down in
front of you for a long way, and then turn on the blinker just as they
start their turn? How many times have you done it?
Lastly, lets talk about other driver’s requirements after a
vehicle has done everything proper in preparing and signaling
for a turn. The last part of 47-11-604 says that when any person
is properly preparing for, attempting or executing a left turn, no
other person immediately following such vehicle shall pass or
attempt to pass the turning vehicle to the left. Such person shall
come to a complete stop if necessary at a safe distance behind that
person turning. Also, it is unlawful to pass this turning vehicle on
the shoulder to the right as well.
So if you are coming up on a vehicle that is slowing, ask yourself,
why are they slowing or stopping? Is someone in front of them
turning? Is something going on that I would need to reduce speed
for as well? This is what a safe and courteous driver would do, but
all to often, people zip out to pass those slowed vehicles, and end
up having a vehicle turn right in front of them, with disastrous
results! Please, use your blinkers properly, make proper turns,
and don’t be in such a hurry! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and
be safe!

A Wilburton woman became very
angry and allegedly attacked her uncle
after she was informed the dryer was
out of order.
On Feb. 5, a Wilburton police officer
was dispatched to a residence in the
200 block of French Lane due to a domestic in progress, the affidavit states.
When he arrived, he was met by
Nancy Nicole Smith, 19, who was
screaming about someone scratching her arm. The officer noticed two
scratch marks on her right arm.
The officer walked up to the residence and made contact with a man who told the officer that when he
said the dryer wasn’t working, Smith went crazy.
He said she started cussing, punched the wall, ran to her room and
started throwing stuff around, then ran back into the living room and
started throwing stuff around. He said she then grabbed a broom
handle and started hitting him in the face and the back of the head.
After assaulting him with the broom handle, the victim said Smith
dropped the broom handle and punched him the face several times
before hitting him with her cellphone.
An 8-year-old child that was at the residence told the officer that
Smith had hit her father in the face with a broom. A 12-year-old was
also present during the assault.
Smith told the officer that she did hit the victim with the broom
handle and punched him.
The officer transported Smith to jail. At least she won’t have much
laundry to worry about there.
Smith is being charged with domestic assault and battery in presence of a minor. She was released on a personal recognizance bond
and is scheduled to appear in court on March 6, 2014.

when they heard someone scream, “Fight!”
One of the officer saw that there was a fight taking place among
multiple bar flies on the west side of the bar.
Bouncers and officer worked together to break up the fighting
throng. One of the men pulled out of the crowd was 24-year-old
Daniel Anthony Romero. He wasn’t too pleased when an officer told
him to calm down and gave the officer an expletive-laced rant.
After a struggle, Romero was finally placed in handcuffs.
One of the bar’s patrons was less than pleased with the officer’s
latest arrest, however. Anthony Michael Bastardo, 33, allegedly
yelled, “That’s my brother!” and ran toward the police. Despite police orders to “back up and calm down,” Bastardo pushed an officer
and attempted to get Romero.
Bastardo refused to put his hands behind his back, but like brother, police were able to place Bastardo in custody.
The brothers also both smelled strongly of alcohol.
After Bastardo finally calmed down, an officer asked him how
much alcohol he had consumed. Bastardo told the officer that he
“lost track a long time ago.”
Just when police thought the altercation had been put to an end,
21-year-old Candi Gail McDaniel ran past officers to the place where
the fight had initially started and punched a female in the face.
She was also taken into custody.
The brothers and the fighting female are all being charged with
obstructing an officer and public intoxication. Bastardo was released on a $400 bond. Romero was released on a $600 bond. McDaniel was released on a $400 bond.
They are all scheduled to appear in court on March 25, 2014.

Kenneth Eugene Hogan
Kenneth Eugene Hogan, 52, was pronounced
dead at 6:13 p.m. on Jan. 23, 2014, after he
received a lethal injection at the Oklahoma
State Penitentiary in McAlester.
On the morning of Jan. 28, 1998, Lisa
Stanley was at home after her husband
George Stanley left for work. Hogan met Lisa
in church and she often babysat for Hogan
and his wife. Hogan arrived at Lisa’s house
around noon. Hogan and Lisa began to argue,
and Hogan stabbed her 25 times with a large knife, cutting his
hand in the process. After the stabbing, Hogan remained in the
apartment and arranged things to look as if someone else had been
fi ghting with Lisa and burned the evidence containing his blood.
After initially avoiding detectives, Hogan confessed a week later
during an interview with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
He confessed after being advised his wife had told police that
Hogan had asked her to lie about his whereabouts on the day of
the murder. According to detectives, the defendant showed no
remorse.
Prior to this case, Hogan committed lewd molestation of a minor
and various burglaries. He also enlisted a minor to sell marijuana
and threatened coworkers and their families.
Hogan was initially convicted and sentenced to death in 1988.
After successful federal appeals, Hogan was retried and again
sentenced to death in 2003.
“Kenneth Eugene Hogan was sentenced to death by a jury of his
peers for the heinous stabbing of Lisa Renee Stanley, who was
a young wife and a promising student,” Attorney General Scott
Pruitt said. “My thoughts and prayers are with Lisa’s family and
friends.”

Heroin and Happy meals
A woman charged with selling heroin hidden in
Happy Meals when she worked for a Pittsburgh,
PA., McDonalds is “emotionally crushed” by the
charges.
But defense attorney David Shrager stopped
short of denying the charges against 26-yearold Shantia Dennis, of East Pittsburgh.
Dennis’ preliminary hearing was reset for
April 9 so Allegheny County prosecutors can
get back crime lab tests on the alleged drugs
involved.
Dennis was arrested Jan. 29 after police say
they caught her selling 10 doses of heroin hidden
inside a Happy Meal to a confidential informant.
Investigators said they also recovered more
heroin from Dennis.
Authorities say Dennis would sell the drugs to drive-thru customers who
uttered the code words, “I’d like to order a toy.”

Eddy C: Still Drunk... He’ll fell different when he sobers up… Maybe not... But,
I had a friend that was THE nicest guy ever

MEAN and Violent... And would not remember any of it the next day… People react to different stuff differently… He might
not even remember it, which is no excuse,
because he made the choice to drink.
Ashley P: What kinda drugs is he on?
No remorse. Even a smile. Mentally ill or
super high. Either way, I bet he has shown
signs of this before. Lets stop giving repeat
drug offenders all the chances in the world.
Mmmkaaaay?
Eddy C: He was Drunk.
Melanie P: And possibly a knife..

Rusty A: Doubt he was defending her
since it says he stabbed her in the stomach…
Scott F: Reading comprehension is key
here, Lanie. The guy attacked his sister and
murdered another, and needs to be dealt
with appropriately.
Deborah J: Who stab the sister?....Castro or Mendoza???
Will T: read what it said. it was his
brother in law he killed and he stabbed his
sister..!!
Andrea G: Yeah he won’t be smiling

Police said they have one man behind bars after they found
a man dead in the street, beaten with a baseball bat and a
skateboard.
Tulsa police arrested 28-year-old Pedro Castro after they
said he left his brother-in-law dead in the driveway.
Authorities said they believe Castro murdered 34-year-old
Juan Mendoza with a skateboard, baseball bat and possibly
a knife.
Tulsa authorities said they arrested Castro about 10 minutes after they arrived when they found him ridding the same skateboard allegedly used in the fight.
Police said the altercation started as an argument between Castro and his
sister.
Officers said he stabbed her in the stomach and hand.
Alcohol may have fueled this altercation; police said Castro was intoxicated.

Suspicious activity at the Checotah casino led police on a highspeed chase that eventually ended in the discovery of drugs, paraphernalia and a lot of money.
On Feb. 6, a Checotah police officer was patrolling at Checotah
Casino when he saw a man leaning into the driver’s side window of
a car, according to the police report. The man leaned out of the window, looked toward the officer and walked away from the vehicle.
The vehicle then moved to a marked parking spot and the man
returned to the car.
The officer observed the vehicle for awhile, until the man walked
back into the casino and the car headed to exit the parking lot.
The officer followed the suspect vehicle and observed that the driver didn’t use a turn signal when leaving the parking lot. After the suspect vehicle failed once more to use a turn
signal, the officer activated his emergency lights in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
The suspect didn’t pull over, but continued to drive at a high rate of speed down Hwy 69.
The driver, later identified as 35-year-old Michael Alan Metzker of Checotah, continued driving at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of other cars and entering into oncoming lane
of traffic.
During the chase, the officer saw Metzker throw multiple items out of the driver’s side window. One of the objects appeared to be a clear baggie that Metzker was shaking in an attempt
to empty the contents.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop and the officer ordered Metzker to the ground by
gunpoint.
After searching Metzker’s vehicle, police found hundreds of unused empty baggies, a digital scale, a pipe with a white residue, a smoking device that smelled of marijuana and a baggie and crystal substance that field-tested positive for meth. They also found nearly $20,000
on Metzker’s person and in his vehicle.
No wonder Metzker was running.
Metzker is being charged with possession with intent to distribute, acquire proceeds from
drug activity, endangering others while eluding/attempting to elude a police officer and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 16, 2014.

The Bible clearly teaches that
Christians are not to worry.
In Philippians 4:6, we are
commanded, “Do not be anxious
[do not worry] about anything,
but in everything, by prayer
and petition, with thanksgiving,
present your requests to God.” In
this Scripture, we learn that we
should bring all of our needs and
concerns to God in prayer rather
than worry about them. Jesus
encourages us to avoid worrying
about our physical needs like
clothing and food. Jesus assures us
that our heavenly Father will take
care of all our needs (Matthew 6:25-34). Therefore, we have no need
to worry about anything.
Since worrying should not be a part of a believer’s life, how does
one overcome worry? In 1 Peter 5:7, we are instructed to “cast all
your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” God does not want us
to carry around the weight of problems and burdens. In this verse,
God is telling us to give Him all of our worries and concerns. Why
does God want to take on our problems? The Bible says it is because
He cares for us. God is concerned about everything that happens
to us. No worry is too big or too small for His attention. When we
give God our problems, He promises to give us the peace which
transcends all understanding (Philippians 4:7).
Of course, for those who do not know the Savior, worry and
anxiety will be part of life. But to those who have given their lives
to Him, Jesus promised, “Come to me, all you who are weary and
burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn
from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest
for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light” (Matthew
11:28-30).

Two jailbirds tried to escape from jail on Feb. 8, but were quickly caught and taken back to their cells, despite one saying that he
would have “to be shot before going back.”
According to the affidavit, a Haskell County deputy was on duty
when he received a call from a dispatch officer. Dispatch advised
that two inmates had escaped from jail and were on the roof of the
Haskell County Detention Center. Apparently, the inmates jumped
from the roof to the ground.
Stigler police arrived to assist, and police started the search for
36-year-old Edward Wayne Branch, Keota, and 20-year-old Matthew Shane Yaws, Stigler.
As officers searched, they noticed two sets of footprints in the
snow. They began to track the footprints, which eventually went
down to one set.
They tracked the set of footprints and found Yaws lying on the
ground in an area behind the Stigler Water Treatment Facility.
He told police that he didn’t any other choice than to break out of
jail.
He added that Branch told him that he would have to be shot before he would go back into custody. Yaws told police that Branch was
carrying a sharpened piece of metal.
The deputy advised his fellow officer about what Yaws had told
them and the search continued.
They went back to the area where the two sets of footprints had been found and were able
to locate where the second set was going.
Police found Branch’s shoes near the end of Industrial Road near Southside Fire Department.
They continued to follow footprints until they came to an abandoned residence.
The residence was secured, and police went inside in search of Branch.
Branch was found inside, and both inmates were taken back to the detention center.
The troublesome twosome is being charged with escaping from county jail while awaiting
trial on felony charges. Branch is being held on a $1 million dollar and is scheduled to appear
in court March 24, 2014. Yaws is being held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear
in court on Feb. 24, 2014.
