A Panama man was
taken into custody after
he allegedly broke into the
Spiro Vet Clinic and stole
several items, including
an FFA jacket and a gun.
Matthew Harris, 31,
was charged February 1
with Burglary- second degree, knowingly concealing stolen property, possess firearms after conviction or during probation, and malicious injury
to property over $1000, in
LeFlore County District Court.
According to court records, Harris allegedly broke
out a back window of a building at the Spiro Veterinary
Clinic sometime between January 25 and 26, 2017,
entered, and stole $300, a game camera, a Garmin
GPS, a blue Carharrt FFA jacket, a 9mm Beretta pistol, and a black briefcase bag containing a portable
electronic tablet.
During the burglary, he also allegedly unplugged a
refrigerator that contained vaccines and medicine that
required refrigeration, therefore ruining the items. The
items ruined were valued at $2500.
Bond for Harris was set at $16,500. He waived his
right to a preliminary hearing and arraignment was set
for March 7 at 9 am.

We here at Jailbirds realize the importance of child support to working families. We also realize it’s a real problem
in Oklahoma that custodial parents aren’t getting the money owed to them. Too many deadbeat parents are getting
away with not supporting their children and our “powers
that be” continue to turn a blind eye to it. So, Jailbirds taking a different approach in helping find deadbeat parents. In
the past, we’ve relied on the DHS website to get info, but
it is pretty lame, as you may have noticed. If you are owed
money from a non-custodial parent, it was court-ordered,
they haven’t paid, and they have a warrant for their arrest, please email news@okjailbirds.
com with the name of the parent in arrears, how much they owe, and what county the
money is owed through. We will try our hardest to confirm the warrant and feature them on
our expanded Deadbeat Parents page. The key here is that they MUST HAVE AN ACTIVE
WARRANT so we can confirm the charge. PLEASE DO NOT PUT THE PERSON’S NAME

Nicole R: Moms who can’t or won’t financially support her children get reduced
housing, food stamps, insurance , educational grants, TANF etc.... dads who can’t or
won’t financially support his children get jail, liens on property, tax returns intercepted,
licenses and permits suspended , and a nice picture on jailbirds. Biased much?
Jailbirds: No, we are not biased. We don’t make the rules. But we do know the rules
and laws need to be changed. It’s not working now. Wouldn’t you agree? If you don’t like
the way things are done now, pick up your phone and call your representative. Put pressure on them. We are.
David S: You are absolutely correct. Sure glad I’m not the only one who sees that. My
ex owes over 50K to her first kids father. She receives food stamps, insurance, etc. Yet,
if I get one month behind they threaten me with suspension on my DL. Oh did I mention
we have 50/50 custody and my child is with me half the time!!! Oh I can tell so much more
about how the child support system sucks. BTW in Oklahoma the child support is handled
by a third party who claims to be with the state. Such a crock.
Nicole R: it’s most definitely not working. 50/50 custody when possible , between 2
fit parents, could alleviate financial burdens on both sides. Jailbirds, done, done and done!
The Father’s Rights Movement page is a great support page for fathers dealing with these
issues.
Jailbirds : *smh* This is NOT about us or even you! It’s about your children! Who
ever said life was fair? Do what’s right and don’t let your kids go without basic things, even
if the other parent is not doing their part. Children need to grow up in a relatively healthy
environment. They need BOTH parents’ support, but can still thrive with only one! I grew
up with an alcoholic father who never paid my mom one dime of child support!! Each one
of us five kids grew up to go to vo-tech or college because we had at least one parent who
thought of us instead of herself. She paid a heavy price for us, and if my dad hadn’t been
a deadbeat, we would have had a much easier time putting food on the table. Growing up
on Rice-a-roni is crap. So don’t tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about because I’m a
“victim” of our system too. Only thing is, I chose NOT TO BE A VICTIM!

and enforced differently based on gender.

I’m glad to hear you and your siblings grew up right. Gives me inspiration while I’m raising
my kids.
Jason P: I am from Arkansas and have wilfully paid my child support for 17 years
without missing a single payment. 3 years ago I remarried and my wife is from Oklahoma
she brought her 2 young daughters and I was appalled that the State of Oklahoma Child
Support Services were so out of touch enforcing noncustodial to pay their support. The
individual that owes his children is over $5k in arrears and has never made an effort in
the 3 years to wilfully pay. They seem to allow the deadbeats to slip through the system
unscathed. I and their mother support the children 100%. It doesn’t seem right that a
deadbeat of this magnitude should be allowed to keep getting away with it but I’m convinced that Oklahomas Child Support Services are,lacking a backbone or they are to lazy
to enforce the court orders. This guy has been threatened to loose his license have his
bank account froze and so forth but OCSE let’s him pay a one time payment of $50 and
all is good in their books and they drop the hearings on the matter. It’s sad that an agency
that is supposed to support the custodial parent and child support the deadbeats instead.
All I can say to Oklahoma OSCE is your lucky that the custodial parent and step parent
pick up your slack.

Keith G: Child support is a joke in Oklahoma. The ones who need the child support
can’t get it and the people who completely ruin there ex’s life over it don’t need as much
as they claim they need because that person makes good money. To base child support
off of ones income is complete bullshit.
David S: That’s absolutely correct. Based on your income is BS. I have 50/50 custody. My child is with me at least 50 percent of the time. Yet I still have to pay child support? That’s BS. I also provide transportation to his school which is about 30 miles away
from my home. Such BS.
Keith G: The Oklahoma court system definitely favors the women, I was lucky and my
ex never even asked showed up in my case. Hasn’t been in the picture for almost 5 years
and never have I seen any child support money. Never even showed up*
Jenn H: I beg to differ, in my case it came down to who had the most money for the
best attorney.
Keith G: Sounds like you got a fair deal then, just good it should be, right? Just how*
Christina H: I don’t see Oklahoma favoring woman.....That’s just not true...I was in
a abusive relationship for years all his charges were dropped at court...I fight back once I
go to jail.. Have to pay him(my abuser) 5000 dollars and loose my kids....I pay child support...Have no problem doing that....But he never payed me a dime when I had the kids
so where is the favoritism?
David S: I’m glad you have stepped up and are showing not all us fathers are deadbeat. Keep up the great work. The kid(s) are what matters. Well Christina there are some
circumstances that it may go in another direction, but on a majority the women are favored. Though I’m sure there is much more to the story, and the violence certainly changes
things.
Christina H: Yes...I also think the county has a lot to do with it....Here the men are
definitely favored...No matter what the situation is....
Keith G: I’m sorry if I offended anyone. I based my comment off of opinion and circumstances that I’ve seen my good friends (male) go through. I hate to see anyone who
really wants to be there for their kids go through the process of it all. I hope eventually
everything works out for you Christina Horne. David, I appreciate the thanks, I couldn’t do
it without the support of my family and girlfriend. They stepped up when I needed them
the most and it has helped tremendously. Keep doing what your doing for your kids buddy.
One day these kids are going to be old enough to realize the the shit you had to go through
to see them and what you did for them.
Charley E: The DHS child-enforcement division is full if idiots who don’t know their
head from a hole in the ground. It would do the state a great service to remove Jeff Lake
(the director), and fire every corrupt employee they have. Start from scratch on the rebuild
with people who really do want to help.

Becky M: I’ve been waiting for over 20 years and it being across state lines makes
it more difficult. Child support division here can’t seem to find him to serve him....and he
won’t work unless it’s cash under the table. And he has had more kids with other women
since we divorced.
Betty S: Wow...I hate that Child Support Enforcement isn’t working well for all of you.
They got me ALL of my back support. TWICE. And this was on a dad that didn’t work the
type of job where his check could be garnished.

24-year-old McAlester woman Bethanie
Marie Myers was arrested after she allegedly stole a vehicle and tried to set it on
fire on February 5.
According to the police report, a McAlester officer was in the area on Main and
Jackson around 1:40 p.m. when he saw
a man chasing a woman. The woman ran
to a driveway of a residence on E. Jackson. She sat down behind a truck in an
attempt to hide from the officer. When he
exited the patrol car, the woman walked
toward him.
The man told the officer that she set a
car on fire in front of a restaurant, and she
may have been attempting to steal it.
The officer asked the woman what her name was. She identified herself
as 24-year-old Jodi Benoit. She told the officer she was trying to get away
from a man.
When the officer asked why she was running from the man, she said
she didn’t remember. She then pointed toward a white truck parked in the
driveway and said she and the man took the truck on a joyride.
While they were speaking, the homeowner walked outside. The officer
asked him if he knew who the truck belonged to. The man said no -- it had
just shown up earlier that day.
Dispatch advised the officer that they couldn’t find any info for Jodi Benoit. The officer asked the woman if she had any identification with her
name on it -- she said no.
The officer then asked for her social security number. The woman said
she didn’t know it.
The officer asked the woman for her name again. This time, she identified herself as 24-year-old Allison Eales.
Dispatch couldn’t find any info on that person either.
When the officer asked the woman for her name a third time, she told
him it was Harry Potter.
The officer took the woman back to the restaurant and looked inside the
vehicle she allegedly tried to steal. He saw fire extinguisher spray everywhere, and some items appeared to be burnt.
When they arrived at the jail, jailers identified the woman as Myers. She
is being charged with third-degree arson and obstructing officer. Her bond
was set at $10,000, and she was scheduled to appear in court on February 16, 2017.

The Haskell County
Sheriff's Department is

acquired a new deputy.
K-9 Deputy Loki was
donated to the Haskell
County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Loki will be
partnered and housed
with Deputy Billy Dickson.
Deputy Dickson and
Deputy Loki will complete a K-9 Handler
Academy and become
a State Certified K-9
Team.
Deputy Loki is a dual
purpose K-9 trained in drug detection, article detection,
and fugitive apprehension.
Deputy Loki will be a great asset to the Sheriff's Department.
Also a special thank you to our friend Scott Bakkala,
owner of Performance K-9 for his help, in helping us
achieve our goal of ring back the K-9 unit.
