Police say a convicted rapist and child
abuser committed the ultimate crime on
March 29.
Around 1 a.m., a woman told LeFlore
County sheriff’s deputy Rob Seale she received a call from Tim Lockaby, 51. Lockaby
told her that her grandfather, Buck, fell off
the porch and hurt himself.
At 6:30 p.m. that day, Lockaby again
called the woman to tell her Buck was dead
and had been for at least a day, adding that
he intended to “bury him here on Indian
ground.” Lockaby declined the woman’s repeated requests to call the
sheriff. A few minutes later, the woman’s husband called the Panama police chief, telling him Buck was dead and an officer needed to
go to the residence.
When the chief arrived, Lockaby told him he went fishing the night
before and returned to find Buck “laid up against the back porch
dead.” A deputy came to the scene to look at the body, where he
found an arm sticking out from under a pile of items in the backyard.
There was also blood on the back porch leading to the back door, the
deputy said, as well as blood on the kitchen floor.
After Lockaby was detained, Seale arrived on the scene to conduct
an interview. In the interview, Lockaby said he struck his father with
a wooden cane and killed him “to put him out of his misery.” He
hung him by wrapping a rope around his neck, as well as hit him
with the cane and a leather covered fly swatter, according to the affidavit. An evaluation of the body showed injuries consistent with
blunt force trauma, Seale said.
State prison records show Lockaby was convicted of lewd proposals to a child in 1987 and child beating in 1992. He spent time in
prison from 1987-1991 and 1992-2007, according to his rap sheet.
Lockaby remains in custody without bond. He’s due in court at
1:30 p.m. April 26.

LeFlore County sheriff’s deputies
and drug task force agents threw a
wrench into a Spiro man’s blossoming drug dealing business March 22.
That day, officers from both groups
served a narcotic search warrant at
a home belonging to Steven Wade
Cox, 50. When they arrived, they saw
Cox wasn’t home, so they began their
search.
In the living room of the home, police found a loaded nine-shot revolver
in a holster, which was attached to
Cox’s recliner. They also found an
ACER brand laptop and mail addressed to Cox. That wouldn’t be all
they found, however; there was a loaded 30/30 rifle in the kitchen,
a prescription pill bottle and a box in the refrigerator, which had 12
individually wrapped bags of marijuana.
Further searching turned up a 12-gauge shotgun, another loaded
double-barrel shotgun, loose marijuana leaves, multiple burnt weed
cigarettes, syringes, a glass pipe, two packs of rolling papers, scales
and more bottles with Cox’s name on them.
All the guns and weed in the house didn’t exactly prepare officers
for what they would find in the north bedroom of Cox’s house, however. There, they found working grow lights, which were cultivating
36 marijuana plants, all in various stages of growth. Moreover, in the
back shed, there were barrels assembled for hydroponic marijuana
use.
Cox was charged April 11 with cultivating and intending to distribute marijuana. He will next appear in court at 9 a.m. April 23.
Cox remains in custody on a $30,000 bond.

Roderick Lynn Smith was
convicted of killing his wife,
Jennifer Smith, and her four
children, Shameka Nicole
Carter, 10; Glen Edward Carter
Jr., 9; Ladarian J. Carter, 7;
and Kenesha R. Carter, 6, in
1993 in Canadian County.
Convicted in 1994, Smith was
handed fi ve death sentences.
Prosecutors say he killed his
wife during an argument
and then killed the children
because they were witnesses.
Jennifer Smith and her sons
were stabbed; her daughters were strangled.
During the sentencing phase, jurors heard from a former
girlfriend of Roderick Smith’s who was stabbed by him about
30 times in 1986. For that crime, Smith pleaded guilty to
assault and battery and was sentenced to two years in prison.
Defense attorneys say Smith has a brain disorder that
triggers violent episodes.
Smith has been on death row since November 14, 1994.
On May 7, oral arguments will begin before the Oklahoma
Court of Criminal Appeals alleging Smith’s death sentence
should be thrown out because the Oklahoma County jury did
not consider evidence of Smith’s alleged mental retardation.

When a Wal-Mart employee told a customer that they didn’t accept
printed online coupons, he wasn’t prepared for the feisty 61 year old
woman’s response. The assistant manager got involved, and was called
names by the upset costumer. More employees followed her out to her
car. “I have something for y’all”, she declared as she waved around a 38.

eventually had to be tasered. The worst part? The coupon only saved $1.
A woman in Virginia called the police after returning home and finding her Crock Pot empty of the chicken she had put in earlier. Instead
of assuming she had neglected to start cooking it in the first place, the
woman very intelligently decided that someone had broken in and stolen it. Yes, snatched a half-raw chicken from a boiling Crock Pot. There
was no sign of forced entry, but the woman did not own any pets that
could’ve been the culprits. Anyway, nobody had dinner that night.
A Florida man clearly has a soft spot for manatees. When he and his
two young daughters took a trip to Taylor Creek, he spotted one. Clearly
thrilled, he put up pictures on Facebook of his daughters riding and petting a baby manatee. Someone who saw the pictures contacted the authorities, and the man was arrested for violating the Florida Manatee
Sanctuary Act. As if Florida is having a hard time finding things to arrest

Three people from Hartshorne were arrested March 25
after they caused a ruckus at
a home in Wilburton because
they couldn’t view their mother’s deceased body.
The woman’s daughter, Susan Holt, 50, was charged with
first-degree burglary and domestic assault and battery; her
husband, Joseph Holt, Jr., 52, was charged with first-degree burglary and assault and battery
with a dangerous weapon. Susan’s brother, Steven Harden, 51, was charged with assault and
battery with a dangerous weapon.
Latimer County deputies were called to a home on Craven Road about a disturbance involving weapons. After several interviews of witnesses, it was discovered that Susan Holt and
Steven Harden’s mother had passed away earlier in the day and were denied seeing her body
at the funeral home. It was the wishes of their mother that her body not be viewed. The trio
then went to their mother’s home and demanded to be let inside, but because of their past
drug use and theft history, they were not allowed.
A physical fight ensued and then the weapons came out- guns, knives, shotguns, you name
it.
All three were taken to Latimer County Jail and booked without incident.

Answer: The first thing to
understand in this discussion
is that there is only one race—
the human race. Caucasians,
Africans, Asians, Indians, Arabs,
and Jews are not different
races. Rather, they are different
ethnicities of the human race.
All human beings have the same
physical characteristics (with
minor variations, of course).
More importantly, all human
beings are created in the image
and likeness of God (Genesis
1:26-27). God loved the world so
much that He sent Jesus to lay
down His life for us (John 3:16).
The “world” obviously includes all ethnic groups.
God does not show partiality or favoritism (Deuteronomy 10:17; Acts 10:34;
Romans 2:11; Ephesians 6:9), and neither should we. James 2:4 describes
those who discriminate as “judges with evil thoughts.” Instead, we are to love
our neighbors as ourselves (James 2:8). All forms of racism, prejudice, and
discrimination are affronts to the work of Christ on the cross.
Jesus commands us to love one another as He loves us (John 13:34). If God is
impartial and loves us with impartiality, then we need to love others with that
same high standard. Jesus teaches in Matthew 25 that whatever we do to the
least of His brothers, we do to Him. If we treat a person with contempt, we are
mistreating a person created in God’s image; we are hurting somebody whom
God loves and for whom Jesus died.
Racism, in varying forms and to various degrees, has been a plague on humanity
for thousands of years. Brothers and sisters of all ethnicities, this should not be.
Victims of racism, prejudice, and discrimination need to forgive. Ephesians 4:32
declares, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just
as in Christ God forgave you.” Racists may not deserve your forgiveness, but we
deserved God’s forgiveness far less.

A McAlester man’s high driving landed him a felony drug
charge and a stint in county jail March 23.
Around 4:35 p.m. that day, Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper
Tim Wesley was stationed at the intersection of 6th and Wyandotte in McAlester. While there, he saw a blue four-door Honda
with a cracked left tail light, so he watched it drive north on 6th
Street through the intersection.
Wesley conducted a traffic stop a short while later and approached Derek Hearod, 26. However, once he got to the window, he became overwhelmed with the smell of burnt K2. While
asking Hearod about the smell, the man said he just dropped off
a friend who was smoking K2 in his car. The friend left a halfrolled K2 cigarette between the passenger seat and console, he
said.
Things got interesting, though, when Hearod admitted he
was on his way home to smoke the rest of the cigarette. Wesley got the half-cigarette and
then arrested Hearod for possession of synthetic controlled substances. He was then booked
on the drug complaint.
The trooper filed the affidavit as a misdemeanor charge, but as of November 2011, possession of K2 became a felony offense, as K2 is considered a Schedule I drug in Oklahoma law.
Hearod first appeared in court March 25 and posted a $500 bond soon after. However, on
April 11, he filed an application for a court appointed attorney, which was approved.
Hearod will be back in court at 9 a.m. May 10 to set a preliminary hearing date.

An armed bank robbery in
Melbourne, Fla., was cut short
when the robber seemed to become a bit mesmerized by the
blonde teller, allowing her an
opportunity to grab his gun.
According to Melbourne police, the man walked into the
Florida Business Bank on Harbor Blvd at around 2:50 p.m.,
pulled a gun from his pants
and demanded cash from the
teller.
The teller complied with the
robber’s demands and placed an undisclosed sum of cash on the counter.
When the robber set his gun on the counter to collect the cash, the teller quickly snatched
it up without hesitation. The robber grabbed what cash he could, stuck it in a bag and fled
from the bank on a bicycle.

Bars, brass knuckles and a bat.
On March 24, the three combined to
put a McAlester man in jail for aggravated assault.
That day, officer Keaton Alexander
went to the 500 block of Legends Lane
after hearing about an assault. He arrived and spoke with a man who said
Nate Beauchamp, 25, hit him several
times in the face with a set of brass
knuckles. The man had a large cut on his
left eyebrow and blood running down
his face, as well as several knots and
bruises on his forehead.
The man said he and a friend arrived at the home around 7:45 p.m.,
where they saw Beauchamp, who said he was waiting for them all
day because he wanted Xanax pills. The man said he didn’t have any,
which prompted the attack, he said.
The man’s friend said he arrived at the home to see Beauchamp
with another man in the driveway. He walked into his bedroom to see
Beauchamp hitting the victim, he said. Not wanting to see his friend
get hurt, he said he grabbed a small baseball bat and hit Beauchamp
in the arm with it.
This stopped Beauchamp, but only to say he would get his brother
and that “he would be back.”
Officers went to Beauchamp’s apartment, where they found and arrested him. Interestingly enough, when Beauchamp was cuffed, he
requested to go to the emergency room for treatment because “his
arm was hurting.” More interesting still, while en route to the ER,
another officer called him to say he arrested someone who saw Beauchamp earlier in the day with brass knuckles. Beauchamp told that
man he was “getting ready to go beat someone’s a--.”
Beauchamp posted a $5,000 bond April 1. He has court set for 9
a.m. May 10.

A 76-year-old Auburn, Massachusetts man, Richard Ahlstrand,
had spotted a black bear in his backyard around his bird feeders.
He went to fill up his bird feeders, and as a precaution, he took
his shotgun. Sure enough, the black bear showed up and started
to chase the old man. The man aimed his shotgun at the bear
and shot it, killing the bear.
Now he’s facing charges for illegally killing the bear, illegally
baiting the bear, illegal possession of a firearm and failure to
secure a weapon. Because he “murdered” the bear, police confiscated his shotgun as well as
two others he had in his possession. Ahlstrand pointed out the idiocy of his elected officials:
“They got me set up now like I’m some kind of murderer. And then the environmental guy
told me, ‘You should have called me instead of shooting it.’ What was I going to do, say ‘Mister
Bear, would you excuse me please while I go make a phone call?’”
Authorities thought that the bear may have had cubs, but as Ahlstrand hadn’t shot the bear,
he may not be here today. He was sure it would have at least mauled him. Ahlstrand recalled
that the bear was about 7 feet tall when it stood on its hind legs, and he estimated it weighed
around 300 or 400 pounds.
Officials say the man “baited” the bear with birdseed... Because we all know that bird seed is

An 80-year-old Council Hill man was
jailed March 30 after he pointed a gun
at several fishermen boating near his
property on Lake Eufaula.
J.L. McGinnis was charged with feloniously pointing a firearm in McIntosh
County District Court.
According to the police affidavit, a
fisherman had called 911 and said that
a man with a pistol had threatened to
shoot him and his friends for fishing
close to his floating dock. When deputies arrived, they were met at the edge
of Corp property by McGinnis. Deputy
Gary Campbell could see McGinnis had
a pistol in his coat pocket and was wanting to talk to him first. Campbell could also see three men in a boat waving at him to come talk
to them.
After hearing McGinnis’ side of the story, Campbell told him to
keep his hands away from the pistol, but as he started to take the
pistol from McGinnis’ pocket, McGinnis stepped back and grabbed
his pistol by the handle and said “NO, wait a minute buddy.”
Campbell and Deputy Downs soon disarmed McGinnis, who had
a Glock 17, 9mm, loaded with one bullet in the chamber, and a full
magazine.
The fishermen said McGinnis threatened to shoot them with his
pistol and pointed it at them. They added that McGinnis said he had
a high-powered rifle at his residence and could get it and shoot them
from his backyard.
McGinnis said that he thought they where tied up to his dock and
that they where fishing around it. He admitted he did pull a gun out
and threatened to kill them for fishing around his dock; he owned
the fish and the dock in the water.
McGinnis had made threats with a gun in his hand while on
Corp land, so he was arrested for Felonious pointing of firearm and
booked into the Mcintosh County Jail.

Ever think to yourself, “what an
amazing time we live in?”
Technology is so incredible, that
we take for granted stuff that wasn’t even possible 40 or 50 years
ago. Whether its cell phones, GPS systems, instant information
through the internet or high tech cars, we go through this world with
a wide array of things that make our lives easier. But what happens
when something goes wrong? I’m going to talk about things that
can go wrong, that may leave you on the side of the road, and ways
you can help yourself in these situations.
Its hard to believe that people still run out of gas these days.
Incredibly, it still happens on an almost daily basis. Sometimes, it
is the result of just not paying attention, and sometimes it is the
result of trusting a little too much in the technology that is built into
our automobiles today. All Troopers have heard from a stranded
motorist that their vehicle said they still had 20 more miles until
empty. The fact is, that number is usually generated by past driving
behavior and gas mileage averages, and is not an actual measure
of how much gas is left in the automobile. Do yourself a favor and
give a cushion...start looking to fill up any time you are under a 1/4
tank of fuel. Also, pay attention to the gas gauge. In the event that
you do run out of gas, be prepared! No matter how high tech your
vehicle is today, its just a big hunk of metal if it runs out of gas!
You may want to carry a small gas can. You certainly want to get
your vehicle off of the roadway to prevent it from being a traffic
hazard and putting yourself and others in danger. If you walk to a
gas station, be alert for traffic. *55 will get you in touch with a local
Highway Patrol Headquarters, but the Trooper may be a long way
off, or on a
call, so be prepared to help yourself! Another common problem
we run into is people who need their vehicle jump-started. You
may forget to turn the lights off and park it somewhere, or leave an
interior light on, or anything that may drain the battery.
Carry a set of jumper cables. If you have those, all you’ll need
is another person whose vehicle is running, and you can get yours
going! Make sure to refer to the owner’s manual to make sure how
to hook up the cables properly. As high tech as vehicles are today,
hooking them up wrong could result in further problems!
Ever hear that old saying about and “ounce of prevention”? Keep
up the maintenance on your vehicle. The owner’s manual usually
has a maintenance schedule for your specific vehicle. Old sayings
usually are old because they are tried and true! Thanks for reading,
