A 31-year-old Broken Bow man was arrested July 21 after
he sliced his friend with a knife while he was cooking a pizza.
William Torres Winship was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon July 24 in McCurtain County
District Court.
According to the police affidavit, the victim, a female friend
of his and Winship’s, and Winship met up at Cattle Crossings to hang out. After a couple of hours, the victim and the
female went to her place to have a sandwich and some pizza.
While the victim was in the kitchen fixing the pizzas, Winship
entered the house and screamed at the victim, asking him if
he was having fun. The two began to fight until the victim felt
a “sawing” in his neck. The victim then pushed Winship away
from him and Winship ran out the door.
The female told officers she and Winship had dated for
about 11 months, but he had not stayed at her house in the
last month.
The victim was transported to the emergency room where he received 15 staples for lacerations he got during the fight. Winship was located and placed under arrest. He was also transported to the hospital because of a cut on his hand. He received nine stitches for his injuries.
Bond was set at $7500 and he was ordered not to have any further contact with the victim.

death Row
Michael Hooper
The Oklahoma Court of
Criminal Appeals set Aug.
14 as the execution date for
Canadian County death row
inmate Michael Edward
Hooper, 39.
Hooper was convicted and
sentenced to death for the
murder of his ex-girlfriend,
Cynthia Lynn Jarman, 23,
and her two children, Tonya
Kay Jarman, 5, and Timmy
Glen Jarman, 3, on Dec.
7, 1993. Hooper shot each
victim in the head twice and
buried their bodies in a shallow grave in a secluded fi eld.
The victims had been missing for several days before
being discovered.
The truck that Cynthia had been driving also was
found abandoned and burned. Police records, including
domestic violence reports, show that Hooper and Jarman
had previously been in a physically violent relationship.
The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld Hooper’s
convictions in 2002, but overturned his death sentences.
Hooper claimed his legal counsel made mistakes during
the second stage of his trial. In a 2004 hearing, Hooper
was once again sentenced to death.
Attorney General Scott Pruitt requested the execution
date on June 4, after the United States Supreme Court
denied the inmate’s fi nal appeal.

LARCENY OF MERCH FROM

Answer: “I’m basically
a good person, so I’ll go to
heaven.” “OK, so I do some
bad things, but I do more
good things, so I’ll go to
heaven.” “God won’t send
me to hell just because
I don’t live by the Bible.
Times have changed!” “Only
really bad people like child
molesters and murderers go
to hell.”
These are all common rationalizations, but the truth is that
they are all lies. Satan, the ruler of the world, plants these
thoughts in our heads. He, and anyone who follows his ways,
is an enemy of God (1Peter 5:8). Satan is a deceiver and often
disguises himself as someone good (2 Corinthians 11:14), but
he has control over all the minds that do not belong to God.
It is a lie to believe that God doesn’t care about small sins or
that hell is reserved for “bad people.” All sin separates us from
God, even a “little white lie.” Everyone has sinned, and no one
is good enough to get to heaven on their own (Romans 3:23).
Getting into heaven is not based on whether our good outweighs our bad; we will all lose out if that is the case. “And if
by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would
no longer be grace” (Romans 11:6). We can do nothing good
to earn our way to heaven (Titus 3:5).
“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and
broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter
through it” (Matthew 7:13). Even if everyone else is living a
life of sin in a culture where trusting in God is not popular,
God will not excuse it. As sinners, we couldn’t reconcile ourselves to God on our own. So God made a way that we could
be united with Him in heaven. “For God so loved the world
that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in
him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Most people believe in God, even Satan does. But to receive
salvation, we must turn to God, form a personal relationship,
turn away from our sins, and follow Him. We must trust in
Jesus with everything we have and everything we do. “This
righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ
to all who believe. There is no difference” (Romans 3:22).
The Bible teaches that there is no other way to salvation than
through Christ. Jesus says in John 14:6, “I am the way, the
truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through
me.”
Jesus is the only way of salvation because He is the only One
who can pay our sin penalty (Romans 6:23). No other religion
teaches the depth or seriousness of sin and its consequences.
No other religion offers the infinite payment of sin that only
Jesus Christ could provide. No other “religious founder” was
God become man (John 1:1,14) – the only way an infinite debt
could be paid. Jesus had to be God so that He could pay our
debt. Jesus had to be man so He could die. Salvation is available only through faith in Jesus Christ! “Salvation is found in
no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to
men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
The Bible says
Question: Is Jesus the
only way to Heaven?

ASSaULT OF PEACE OFFICER
A Caddo man was charged with two counts of felony
attempt to kill and a misdemeanor domestic assault and
battery after he tried to kill his mother and half-brother
by running them over with his car.
Daniel Aills, 33, was transported to a Dallas hospital
after his brother shot him in order to protect himself and
his mother. He was later taken into custody by Atoka
County deputies and jailed.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Atoka County Deputy Sheriff Clint Holland was called to a rural
home outside Caney in reference to a shooting. When he
arrived, he spoke with Caney Police Officer Brad Jackson
about the incident.
As the two were talking, a man walked up to Holland
and announced he was the one who shot Aills, who was
his half-brother.
According to the man’s statement, he was in the kitchen with his mother when Aills
came to the house and started screaming and yelling at them that he was going to kill
them both. The brother then went into the bedroom and got his shotgun to scare Aills off.
Just then, he heard the window shatter in the kitchen, as Aills had thrown a cup of coffee
at his mom.
When he confronted Aills, Aills grabbed hold of the barrel of the shotgun and the brother whacked Aills in the head with the butt. They fought and a round went off, hitting the
couch. The mother grabbed the shotgun and ran outside.
After his brother calmed him down, Aills went outside and got into his car. Suddenly,
Aills stomped on the gas and headed straight for both his brother and mother, who were
standing on the porch. The brother grabbed the shotgun and fired a shot into the back seat
to try to scare him away, but it didn’t work. Aills then circled the house like a shark as the
brother went back inside for more shells.
The next shot hit its mark. Aills stopped the car, got out and told them to call 911.
As Aills lay on the ground, he looked up at his brother and said,” Look out, because I am
going to come and kill you later.”
Aills preliminary hearing date is set for Sept. 12.

DRINKING AFTER 7 WILL GET YOU BEAT
An Oklahoma City mother has been charged with
child abuse after she “whooped” her 3-year-old
daughter for opening the refrigerator after 7 p.m., investigators said. An arrest warrant is expected to be
issued for Nortesha Harmon, 28, of Oklahoma City.
On July 4, Harmon was dropping off her 3-yearold daughter when she told the child’s father that
she had whooped their daughter with an extension
cord for getting a drink after 7 p.m., court documents
revealed. On July 11, investigators interviewed the
child and noticed bruises on her face and body, investigators said.
The child’s father told investigators that he and the child’s mother did not
have a legal custody agreement, but he allowed her, the mother, to see the
child whenever she wanted, according to court document. The child was
treated at Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City.
What you’re saying
about this on...
Tyler A: sounds like the father’s picture
should be up here too for letting someone
like this care for a child.
Melissa A: wat a shame
LeAnna B: wow.. stuff like this breaks my
heart... SHE IS A BABY.....
Wendy O: omg people make me sick...
Vanessa S: sad! poor baby
B.gaylene H: Beat the hell out of the
mother
Traci S: Someone should beat this (woman) in the face with an extension cord.. Over
and over. Poor baby.
Stacie R: Stupid (woman)!!! She needs
her a** beat with an extension cord!!!
Paula G: You don’t beat a kid with an extension cord.......not at any age, not for any
reason!
Cheryl H: WHY WASNT SHE WATCHING HER 3 YR OLD ANYWAY!!!!!!!! GIVE
ME AN EXTENSION CORD AND I WILL
PLAY MOMMY DEAREST WITH HER!!!!!
April R: Someone needs to beat this thing
with a few dozen cords all over her body. She
shouldn’t be allowed anything to drink for 7
days at the least & only then just a sip then
no more for another 7 days etc for 7 years.
What the hell is wrong with people now days.
I would never deny anything to drink to my
children. They are allowed water anytime
they want/need but they know that other
drinks like juice & kook aid is off limits after
8 but if one sneaks & gets some then big deal
I sure the heck am not going to physically
punish them for it. Geez
D Ariana H: Its sad how many cases are
out there like this, and how many people
out there who dont deserve children, have

Patty K: Why is she allowed to have this
child. What does do after 7pm when she is
thirsty. Whipping the child with an extension
cord the mother should whipped with one.
Rosie P: This (woman) looks healthy as
hell. Super glue her lips together but leave
a slit on one side just big enuf for a coffee
straw full of everclear. ( once a day ). Start
at her neck and wrk down with a tazer every
30 mins.
Vincent R: A 3 year old child really a 3
year old don’t know better cuz it a child don’t
mean u gotta beat the sh** out Of em she so
stupit
CharlieandStaci: what could possibly
make this woman so sick to beat her child?
Poor child. My heart cries for the child.

OK Jailbirds is cooperating with the efforts of Oklahoma
Department of Human Services to impact the huge social
problem of irresponsible parents who are not paying the
child supports ordered by our courts.
If these biological-only parents won’t honor the courts
order, perhaps public shame will get their attention.
If you know how to reach any of the Deadbeat Parents found on this page, please call the Oklahoma Department of Human Services
Child Support HotLine at 1-800-522-8014
It’s ALL about the KIDS!
Importance of Child Support
Children are our future and child support helps make sure they have a chance at a
productive life. Children have the right to get support from both parents and do not
lose this right when a parent leaves the home.
When children do not receive child support, they can:
Suffer both Emotionally and Physically
Live within a Reduced Standard of Living
Have their Basic Needs Unmet
Become Non-Supportive when they become Parents.
When one or both parents do not support their children, taxpayers often pay the cost
of raising children. When children receive public assistance and their parents pay no
child support, all taxpayers bear the cost of supporting the children.

A father and his son have been charged in connection with
the armed robbery at Frank’s Corner Store after numerous
people recognized them from video surveillance taken at the
store during the crime.
James Marvin Carty, 64, and James Michael Carty, 42, both
of Kemp, were charged July 17 with robbery with a firearm.
According to the affidavit, police were called to Frank’s Corner Store in Colbert July 13 in reference to a robbery with a
firearm. The two employees on duty at the time told police two
partially-disguised men entered the store demanding money.
When the cashier saw one of the perpetrators go for a gun in
his waistband, he ran back to the kitchen area.
As the two employees watched, one of the men pulled the
cash drawer out, chords and all, and handed it to the other
man. The armed man then pointed the gun at the two employees and threatened them. They
then left the store and fled in a 1995 Chevy pickup.
Approximately $1000 was taken.
Video surveillance footage was released to the media and several people identified the pair
as the father and son duo. The elder Carthy was later picked up in Monticello, Ark., and returned to Bryan County. The younger Carty was arrested in Dennison, Tex.

By John Borgstedt
The criminally incarcerated … where did they come from?
What led to their downfall? Many counselors have traced this
criminal cycle to decades of abuse in the homes they were raised.
At some point, having unbearable memories of pain, the victims began to self-medicate - turning to alcohol or marijuana -
discovering the temporary relief becoming weaker and weaker,
leading to the use of stronger drugs. A slack in their job performance normally followed, getting them fired.
But a drug user needs money to maintain his/her chemical addictions and lifestyle. The user may resort to robbery or more serious crimes, wanting to stop but can’t. And until he/she reaches
a point of dealing with their past abuse, they will never be able
to quit and find ‘change’. Both counseling and ‘forgiveness’ is a must in starting a new and healthy
cycle for their life.
It was many years before I could reach that point of ‘forgiveness’ regarding my own abusers. Even
when seeking answers, I didn’t fully understand what it would take to find counsel and healing, until
writing my first book, ‘I Love You, Mom … Please Don’t Break My Heart’.
“Seconds later, she opened the door and jerked me out of the car, threw me onto the ground like
a piece of trash, and pulled something from her pocket. Even though I knew something terrible
was happening, I did not move a muscle. She would really get angry if I moved! Without saying one
word, she slid a plastic bag over my head, covering my face. For a split second, my mind went numb.
I gasped for breath as her arm pressed tighter and tighter against the plastic bag covering my nose
and mouth. Suddenly the probability of death overpowered all fear of a beating. For the first time in
my life, panic replaced all dread of violence and pain. Gasping and choking, my fingers clawed at the
bag. My mom grabbed at my hands as she struggled to keep the plastic over my nose and mouth. My
weak, undernourished body was no match against my tall, powerful, and very determined mother.
Fighting for breath within the tomb of plastic, I felt her grip tighten even more against my face.”
There are people who think they have been down the darkest road in life with no possible chance
of change, but I have been down that road, too, and if I could turn it around and not only change my
life, but learn how to help others - becoming one of the country’s foremost child advocates – you can
do it, too.
John Borgstedt is a motivational speaker and author of the book “I Love You Mom... Please Don’t
Break My Heart” He can be reached at [email protected] or visit his website at www.ILoveYouMom.net

A Durant woman was taken into
custody July 27 after police found evidence she had stabbed a man but had
blamed it on “two hispanic males.”
Amber Chevawn Davis, 30, was
charged July 30 with assault and
battery with a dangerous weapon in
Bryan County District Court.
According to the police affidavit,
Davis claimed she and the victim were
walking from Family Dollar when the
victim was stabbed by two hispanic
males she did not know. After questioning her further, she changed her
story several times.
Further investigation showed the victim and Davis had not made
a purchase at Family Dollar and the area Davis claimed the assault
took place was free of any evidence of a struggle or stabbing.
Officers were also led to a residence in the 700 block of North Fifth
Avenue where witnesses said they heard the couple arguing and that
Davis grabbed a knife. Police found what they believed to be blood
inside the home and located a wooden-handled knife matching the
description Davis told police the hispanics had used on the victim.
The victim was flown to Plano Medical Center in critical condition
and Davis was taken to the Durant Police Department. As soon as
she knew she was busted for lying to them, she asked for her lawyer.
On the way to the Bryan County Jail, Davis asked the officer driving her questions about the victim’s well-being. He told her he did
not know, but knew he was in critical shape. Davis replied, “Oh, hell,
he’ll be okay. I stabbed my ex-husband three times in the back and
he lived, too.”
Davis’ bond was set at $40,000 and her preliminary hearing is
scheduled for August 15.

Summer time can be a time of
fun, whether its at the lake, pool,
or any of the numerous other
activities to be found throughout this great state, but it is also
a time of serious heat. With temperatures reaching into the
100’s many times already, and more to come, I thought I would
touch on the way heat can affect your traveling plans, and some
tips to help you beat the heat!
First, be prepared. Cars suffer in the heat just like we do. If
and when they break down, you’ll want to be ready. Be familiar
with your emergency equipment in your vehicle. This means
learn where your jack, spare tire, and tire tool are. Learn how
to use them. Figuring that out on the side of the road at 102
degrees is no fun at all. The owner’s manual of your vehicle
has a section on roadside emergencies that can help you figure
out where the emergency equipment is stored, and tips on
how to use it. Learn the steps to change a flat! Although we
will be happy to help you if you are broken down, we aren’t
always close, and may not be able to get to you for a long period
of time. If you know how to get yourself out of a roadside
emergency, that’s less time you’ll spend in the heat.
Take lots of water with you if you are going on a trip, especially
if it’s a long one. Have a cell phone with you so you can call
for help if you need it. Be aware of your surroundings when
driving, so you can give the person you call for help an accurate
location for where you are. Also, if you can get your car to a
place of shade, do so. Temperatures can be up to 20 degrees
cooler in a place of shade such as an overpass or large trees.
Lastly, make sure your car is maintained properly. Ever
notice how many pieces of tires you see on the roadway during
the summer? The heat is hard on tires, so make sure they are
properly inflated and have good tread. If your tread is worn,
get them replaced! The pavement those tires are rolling on is
even hotter than the thermometer is showing! Visually check
your belts, and make sure all your fluids are filled up. That
ounce of prevention can keep you from being stuck on the side
of the road in 100 plus temperatures.
Preparing for roadside emergencies in the heat is just as
important as it is in the winter, but it seems like we just don’t
prepare the same for it. Just a few minutes of learning how to
change a flat, packing in a case of water, and being aware of
your surroundings can keep a bad day from being a whole lot
worse! Thanks for reading, buckle up, and be safe!

A Hugo couple were taken into custody after they were busted for selling
meth in a motel parking lot.
Frankie Lee Heady, Sr., 46, and
his wife, Iantha Heady, 41, were both
charged July 23 with distribution of a
controlled substance in Choctaw County District Court.
According to the police affidavit, District 17 Drug Task Force officers were
informed of a drug transaction about to
take place at a local motel in Hugo on
July 17. One agent waited inside a room
and another waited in a vehicle west of
the motel.
Iantha, who was driving, and Frankie Sr., who was in the passenger seat, parked their car
sideways just outside the window of the room the agent was in. He was able to get a clear view
of the transaction and relayed what he saw to the other agent.
After the meth and money were exchanged, the Heady’s drove away, but the agent waiting west of the motel followed them and initiated a traffic stop. They were arrested and
taken to the Choctaw County Jail where Frankie’s bond was set at $20,000 and Iantha’s
was set at $5000.

Pushmataha County Sheriff Deputy Shawn Culver was traveling south on NE E Street when he noticed a blue Ford Explorer traveling south in front of him but was in the northbound lane. He caught up with the vehicle, activated his lights
and the vehicle pulled over.
Culver exited his vehicle, made contact with the driver and
told him the reason for stopping him. While standing at the
window, he could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the
vehicle. Culver asked the driver and his passenger, later identified as William Chambers, 42, of Antlers, to step out of the
vehicle and stand by his car.
Culver got his dog from the car and ran her around the vehicle. She alerted the first time around on the driver’s side door.
He then put the dog back into the car and had both the driver and Chambers put their hands
on the hood of the car.
Culver began to pat down Chambers. He reached into his left pants pocket and retrieved a
pack of rolling papers. Chambers said he rolled his own tobacco, but Culver then felt something plastic and pulled it out. He opened the top and saw a marijuana in the container.
Culver told Chambers to place his hands behind him that he was under arrest for possession of marijuana. As he was cuffing him, Chambers shoulder checked him, knocking him
back. Chambers then began to try to run off, but the deputy was able to reach out and grab
Chambers’ shirt, wrap his legs up, and tackle him to the ground.
Chambers kept moving his legs trying to get Culver off of him and get up. Deputy Bailey
then jumped on top of the pile to help restrain Chambers, but he was still putting up a fight.
Bailey and Culver both then climbed on top of Chambers, still trying to restrain him, but
Chambers would not give up. After much ado, Bailey finally got Chambers into handcuffs
and he was sat beside the patrol car.
Antlers Police Officer Wyatt Williams arrived on scene and transported Chambers to the
Pushmataha County Jail and booked on charges of assault and battery on a police officer,
possession of a CDS, possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.
